Jets Sign DL Steinkuhler to Practice Squad

by Bassett on December 23rd, 2009 at 1:39 pm

Mike Tannenbaum has announced that the Jets signed DL Ty Steinkuhler to the practice squad and released LB Josh Mauga from the practice squad.

Steinkuhler (DL/6-3/280/Nebraska), was signed by the Jets on May 1, 2009, was with the team through training camp until he was waived, Sept. 5. A 2008 Honorable-Mention All-Big 12 coaches’ choice at Nebraska, he recorded 88 tackles, three sacks and 17 tackles-for-loss in his collegiate career.

Big Stein would project to 3-4 End, and Bill Callahan knows him well from his own days with the Huskers. I think this is a guy that Ryan might like to see developed, so keep an eye on him. I’d imagine this is a move that the team made before teams roster size starts expanding.

It’s also been reported that the Jets have worked out former Bengal RB Chris Perry and LB Ezra Butler. Obviously neither have been signed as of now.

He was very raw in preseason.

50 – rosters don’t expand until after the season.
