Audible: Can you spare some Change?

by Weeks on December 25th, 2009 at 11:00 am

It has been a long up and down season for us Jets fans and I figure with January 1st around the corner we should start making a list of the Jets New Year Resolutions. That said, what do you think needs to be improved during the offseason that will help the Jets succeed in the coming years (other than the obvious: Sanchez needs to make better decisions)? Fire [Person X]? Ditch Gholston?

Let us know what’s on your mind, pretend your Woody Johnson for a day what do you do with this team?

Need a big time pass rushing defensive lineman.

  2. avatar James in TN says:

    FIRE SCHOTTENHEIMER

    sign Nick Folk

    Cut Gholston

    Make Callahan the new OC

Suspend all PSL fees and use advertising to supplement the cost.

  3. avatar chris says:

Big time WR, DE and Solid Veteran QB in case Sanchise does to begin to mature as a QB!

  4. avatar Malone says:

    One of the following players:
Seymour, Peppers or Asomugha to either give us a pass rusher or another shut down corner.

  5. avatar Doug says:

Use some late round picks on raw offensive linemen with good potential. We’ve hopefully got another two or three years out of the older guys on the line and with a coach like Callahan I think we can find some gems in rounds 5-7.

No blockbuster signings this offseason. We’ve got a quality team and we’ve been breaking the bank and using our cap space recently, but sooner than later Revis, Harris, Mangold, Brick are going to be FA’s and we need to lock up these cornerstones for the long haul. Revis is going to need a record setting contract and Brick is going to demand left tackle money.

Keep Braylon around on a one year deal and if he develops with Sanchez bring him in long-term. If there is a steal receiver available in the 1st or 2nd round, draft him. How many times this season have mediocre pass defenses happen to be on their game and completely covering every one of our receivers?

Rex, keep doing what you’re doing. Keep building the mentality of the new Jet. We’ll make winners of this team yet.

  6. avatar TOON2388 says:

    Offensive Linemen
    Defensive depth
    Jenks & Leon fully recovered
Coaches working daily to teach Sanchez how to play action fake and look comfortable in pocket
CAMP WESTHOFF – 12 HOUR KICK RETURN COVERAGE EVERY DAY

  7. avatar Chris says:

    Tender Leon and re-sign TJ
See if Kyle Shanahan can be had for OC
Draft either Jared Odrick, Dan Williams, Mt Cody, or Corey Wooton Rd 1.
Draft either Perrish Cox, Brandon Ghee, or Jerome Murphy Rd 3

  8. avatar Chris says:

    Meant Rd 2.
And obviously concur with Toon and others, focusing on young depth at OL a must via draft, or free agency.

Make sure that the scouts are in top shape, 2010 is a hugely important year for the draft…

  9. avatar Johnny Reefer says:

    TO WIN BABY, TO WIN!

  10. avatar greg sec 130 says:

    Sign Elvis.

  11. avatar Dpaq831 says:

    1. New OC (KISS) Keep it simple, stupid! Schotty is sooo creative that his abstract schemes are too conceptually demanding for the average NFL player, take it easy genius!!!
    2. A solid vet backup QB [Kerry Collins, Jeff Garcia, Testaverde (hahaha)]
    3. OL, DL, CB (Draft or young FA)
    4. Rex should have boasted about Gholston more to make him more intriguing trade bait…that is really the biggest dissapointment(imagine Mcfadden right about now in this offense with our O-line?) Makes me cry on Christmas day just thinking about it.

  12. avatar Ben Nevis says:

    1. Get a shut-down corner to play opposite Revis. (Lito’s been good lately but he’s been hurt much of the year, and early in the season he was just mediocre at best.)

    2. Sign TJ for next year or two.

    3. Sign Leon.

    4. Sign Braylon.

    5. Draft for depth at the O line and D line, building a future on both sides of the ball.

    6. Wire Sanchez up so that every time he makes a horrible decision at QB, he gets a nice electric shock.

    7. Makes Rhodes wear a dress every time he tackles like a girl.

  13. avatar gr33n says:

    CP for QBs coach!

  14. avatar BC says:

Merry Christmas to all my fellow Jet bloggers. We need to get rid of Schotty, promote Calahan to OC, say goodbye to Clemens and Dearth, and draft for depth.

  15. avatar NamVetJet says:

    Sign a veteran QB backup.

  16. avatar NamVetJet says:

    Holiday wishes to all.

  17. avatar Harvlis says:

Happy Holidays and a Great New Year’s to all you Jet fans.

What I want next year is for Jet fans to be able to enjoy the season, without pulling their hair out. Let’s dominate our division and make a strong showing in the playoffs. Let’s be done with the Jets finding new and different ways to lose games each week. Next year, we find new and different ways to dominate. And Rex is just the guy to do it.

  18. avatar James in TN says:

    Harvlis, best post yet.

    Happy Holidays all.

  19. avatar Spiegs311 says:

    JULIUS PEPPERS

and probably a solid #2 receiver. maybe we can finally grab anquan boldin.

  20. avatar liam says:

Gentlemen, its been a long time, just wanted to wish all of you a merry christmas and happy holidays. bent, my offseason wish is to stay on course. i like what we’re building here and we just need to continue to supplement. we need some young bodies on the o-line to develop and a veteran qb to back up sanchez. earlier in the season i would have said that drafting young bodies for the d-line would be a top priority but ive been extremely impressed with how the group has stood up in jenkins absence. still would be nice to add a young big body but not a must in my eyes. im ok with lito, hes stepped up his game the last few weeks, but if i remember correctly he would be overpaid if he stays with the team next year. like many have said, i would be surprised if schotty is back next year-dont think rex thinks he is the man for the job.

  21. avatar Jay says:

I just want a winning season. And make the playoffs. And for sanchez not to make anymore mistakes!!!!!! Go jets.

  22. avatar Harvlis says:

Thanks, James. Best days to come, buddy.

  23. avatar DeeVee says:

    Happy holidays guys.

We have the number 1 def in the league so let’s focus on our offense.
    Draft defense buy offense
    let’s get cribbs
I said it before and I’ll say it again. This guy is the missing piece.

  24. avatar Randy Moss cries too much says:

    Nick Folk ? Really ?
    Are you kidding ?

Any Jet fan knows not to fall in love with a kicker because they’ll just fold eventually….but how in the world would Nick Folk make more sense then Feely….Folk is garbage and if you knew anything about the NFL you would know that….jesus christ, you must be a met fan

  25. avatar ml says:

Must say…I think its time that we give Bill Callahan the nod at OC. What he has done for the running game and O line. Providing schotty is out it would be insulting to give anyone else the job. I also feel like he has gotten his chance as a HC already so if he did great things with our unit its not like he would be jetting for a HC position right away. Keep some continuity in the system and bring in a new QB coach to work with Sanchez. I have no problem with him making rookie mistakes and not understanding the speed and athleticism of NFL players but for an alleged gym rat his footwork has not improved and he just goes through spurts where he looks so lost. Callahan seems like a guy who can simplify the game plan which is what Rex wants. We have better talent so let’s go out and win type of an approach. You have to blame some of what’s wrong with sanchez on coaching. We know he can make the throws and some of the plays he has made have been downright incredible. Callahan for OC. I trust Mr. T with the draft. We have hit a lot more than we have missed and Rex has enough moxy not to let Gholston happen again. Let’s get big jenks back lock up Leon and watch this team bring the AFC East back to New York next year.

  26. avatar M eazii says:

Merry x mas to all the jets fans!

The first move I would make is to lock up leon for a 1 or 2 year deal and the same for bray bray. Second move I would make is to bring in a proven defensive linemen that can rush the passer, someone that has been doing it for a while like Seymour ( who is unhappy in Oakland) or peppers ( who wants to go a 3-4 base defense) or even dummervil from Denver. If we get one of those guys our defense will become elite because that us the only thing this defense is missing. Third is to get depth in the o line and d line with our draft picks and maybe a wr if there is a good 1 available in 1 of our spots. Fourth move I would make is to fire schotty and promote callahan. And my last move would be to bring in a vet qb to help out sanchez develop and just in case he gets injured because Clemens, ainge, or o’conell ain’t going to get the job done. And that’s about it!

Let’s give then colts their first loss! GO JETS!!!

  27. avatar Justin says:

Hard to comment on moves when we don’t know if there is a salary cap or not for next year. If there isn’t…Woody may be spending some big time cash. Hopefully it’s on the right guys..

  28. avatar tyrone says:

going to the last game thanks to stub hub hopefully jets win in indy which to me is not that hard if this team plays on all cylinders o/d/st we could beat anybody.and it will be a meaningfull game agansit cincy

  29. avatar James in TN says:

You don’t have to start Nick Folk Randy, but it does let Jay know that threeing is more importanty than tweeting. Wake up calls never hurt. Bet Nick makes at least 1 of those 3 Jay missed.

  30. avatar James in TN says:

    important

  31. avatar The K-man says:

    1) bigtime pass rushing D-Lineman or LB.

    2) Is Braylon the answer? if so, sign ‘em. If not, make a move. Get Sanchez the tools he need for the next 5 to 7 years. Keller, L. Washington, and Cotchery are solid but we need a stud WR.

    3) O-line depth. woody and faneca ain’t getting any younger and an injury would to any starters would be a major concern. Imagine two injuries!

    4) Back QB – who is it next year?

  32. avatar WOJF says:

    Sell the team!!!

    But in lieu of that:

Hire Cowher as head of Football Operations/GM a la Holmgren. Insist he revamp the scouting department, top to bottom.

    Fire Tannenbaum, Bradway and Shotty.
    Promote Callahan to OC.
    Keep Rex as HC.

    Cut Gholston and Brian Thomas.
    Retain Jones.
Tender Leon for 2nd round pick if he will not sign a very reasonable two year deal.
    Do not tender Clemens.
    Sign a competant VET QB.
    Sign Braylon.
    Sign a real blocking TE.
Draft a punter and kick returner on the second day.
    Draft defense on day one.
    Retain Ellis.
    Sign Harris long term.
    Refund PSL’s.
Burn the Titan throw backs at halftime of the first preseason game.
Make the Super Bowl uniforms the permanent uniforms, no need for throw backs.
    Reduce beer prices.
Half price for preseason games, both should be on Saturday nights.
    Get your daughter into rehab.

  33. avatar joe b says:

Just learn how to put the pedal to the metal when we get an early lead. Tired of watching all game and losing in the final few minutes.

    7. Makes Rhodes wear a dress every time he tackles like a girl. -Ben NEvis

Thanks, I almost spit coffee through my nose when I read that!! LOL

  35. avatar junior says:

I thought about this for a while and this was in my opinion the list of things and the reasons why.

First i think they should evaluate the staff Rex did ok his first year but see what goes on. Try to resign Braylon edwards and leon washington. Go out and let teams know that Kerry Rhodes will be available for trade. With the attempt to move up and maybe grab an Eric berry. hopefully by trading rhodes maybe get an extra 2 and and also Draft Terrence “mount” Cody. With these 2 moves now you go into the season with Eric smith as your starter until Berry beats him out or if there are any setbacks with him. With Cody you have a mammoth of a man who can play and also having him back up Jenkins in case the surgery didnt go as well with your lower pick you try to find some quality gems in the o line department later on in the draft maybe find our net left guard of the future or Right tackle as well

What your playing on is that maybe you find someone to supplant faneca and get lucky and find another corner to play opposite Revis. Offensively your going to make thomas jones play out his contract without re-signing him while working lw back and shonn greene into the lineup. THen hope Sanchez gets better but try to sign a veteran qb to backup sanchez maybe even bring chad back to teach him.

  36. avatar Chrebet is the Man says:

In order to ever think about getting Eric Berry you must have an top 5…probably not even…more like top 3 pick to grab him….so with that being said what can the Jets possibly offer any team to get one of those picks

Please ! Please stop thinking Berry will just fall in our hands
