BGA: Any Requests?
Once again, I’ll be doing a detailed review of the game tape from Sunday’s game. Please leave your suggestions in the comments for what you’d like me to focus on.
Some suggestions:
- An analysis of Special Teams play.
- A breakdown of coverage responsibilities.
- A look at the effectiveness of each running back.
Interested in these? Any other ideas? Feel free to speculate wildly about what my findings might reveal in the comments.
Check back in a few days for the analysis…

I know D’Brick down blocked on one of Freeney’s freebies, but can you see if it was a matter of them sending more than we had to block or (if possible) try to deduce who was really responsible for the two sacks.
-
definitely – please review both freeney plays
the ghost man actually made a few plays yesterday! i think 1 or 2 on specials and 1 on coverage vs a TE in the flat
-
How many of the Colts’ defensive starters were still playing in the third and fourth quarter….
-
I’d love to see a breakdown of our run game. namely, our success running inbetween the tackles vs the sweeps (including wildcat and reverse plays).
-
PLEASE find out what the **** was going on letting Freeney blast Sanchez TWICE. That kind of stuff can end a qb’s career.
Maybe a little analysis of the temporary replacements for Moore and Woody when they went out…
-
Yes, the Freeney plays were most disturbing. What happened?
And I would be interested in seeing where the RBs have better success. I noticed in the Atlanta game that TJ had no room between the tackles. But once they ran him outside, he started to get some yards. I thought it was similar yesterday.
Also, did Sanchex throw any succesful passes more than 15 yards down field? Not that I want him to try…
-
-Breakdown on the two Freeney sacks
-VG plays
-Blocked FG
-How secondary did while Manning was in. Lito was getting abused, and Revis wasn’t exactly on his A-game -
how bout the possibility of big jenks returning for the playoffs ( if we make it ) or leon for that matter. i think IR is only for the regular season
-
Also all the penalties. Some of them were BS (especially the PI when Peyton and the crowd reacted), but they were coming fast and furious.
-
on the post game adam schein said that was “the worst game revis played all year”. i think that is a little harsh – he limited one of the greatest QB / WR combos in history to 3 catches for 33 yards on 7 targeted passes. i believe one of those catches was in zone coverage as well
i know he got a little lucky on the deep ball he was beat on – but still, if 3 catches for 33 yards is a bad day…sign me up anytime
-
schien also said the colts “disgraced the league” by sitting manning…… so he aint that bright.
-
Can’t help to notice that Bart Scott overplays everything!, but once in a while makes an impact play in the backfield which makes him look good.
2 off the top of my head:
-Looks like he missed his gap assignment on the 20 yard TD run by Adai-and blew the over-the-middle coverage on Clark in the redzone in the second quarter.
-
Breakdown on the Freeney plays. Pretty sure the second time not blocking him was by design, see if you can confirm/deny.
D-Line play. Seemed like DeVito had a tremendous game, as did Green, what do you think?
-
A look at Manning’s stats when blitzing vs. a standard 4 or less rush would be good. Seemed they were ready for everything the Jets threw at them, but that’s Manning for you.
-
How bad Lito really played and of course any highlights Gholston had would be great!
-
1- It seemed like Revis didnt have the best of games. May be you can see if he actually had a better game off camera than we think.
2- How great Faneca was on the run. He has his problem pass protecting but hes still one of the best at run blocking. -
Was Sanchez’s interception (negated by the penalty) a bad throw, a bad read, great coverage, a blown play, or something else?
-
I’d like to see some analysis of Lito’s play. It looked like he got beat a lot at normal speed. Also, why was the Indy pass protection so effective against the Jets’ pressure. Was it all Peyton?
-
Whew, Bent, you’ve got a full plate here, already!
If you have time…here’s something I found interesting, that also has received no real coverage that I’ve seen.
Some background to the PM pulling. Yes, they’d planned to yank everyone and let the JV handle things, but assumed (along with everybody else) that would be with the Colts up a ton. That way, it’s “Christmas week” and everyone can relax and smile on the sidelines. But, that didn’t happen. While I assume the PM-led team may well have won by the end, they were struggling vs. the Jets big-time. They only had a 6-pt lead at the half, and had misfired and struggled in equal measure to abusing the Jets secondary at times. The KO return changed everything. That was the blow below the water line they didn’t expect or plan for. It took a classic PM drive to take the lead back but it was only a 5-pt lead. PM knows the game well enough to know they were in a dog-fight. He knew full well that the 2nd Unit would have their hands full vs. this Jets team.
So, what I’d like is some input on how you see the Jets’ D, hanging on for dear life as they may have been in the first half, still doing just enough to hold this juggernaut to a 5-pt dogfight long before PM was pulled.
Thanks!

I’d like some imput on how the Colts O-Line held up so well against the pressure in the first half. Peyton could have taken a nap back there he had so much time. I’m glad we won, but this won’t bode well in the playoffs…

Did Peyton have great protection or did he just get rid of the ball quickly? My feeling is that it was the latter. Please confrm his average time from snap to release. I think it must be less than 3 seconds. (Obviously the sign of great QB play and a must-have trait for any developing signal caller, i.e. Sanchez, Painter).
-
How bad Kerry Rhodes played. It seemed to me, that he often shied away from a tackle or a big hit. He repeatidily had times to lay into someone and he passed. He also had tackles to be made and he lazily would just run into them while protecting his body. He looked soft…Real Soft.
Revis got picked on a number of plays. Thats why he was out of position on a few plays.
And the Two Freeney plays. Whose fault is that? Brick, Sanchez, Callahan, Schotty? All of the above?
-
Bent,
Most fans want to know why we neglected to block Freeney twice. That one is simple — the formation called for it. Sanchez was to roll to his right and get rid of it quickly but, that didn’t happen. Any other input would be interesting.
Many are upset with Revis but, I believe he must have been told to play a conservative game. Although, his man did get behind him, on one scary play — I thought he played just fine. Your thoughts.
I would like to know if DeVito is playing as well as I think he is. Please give a review of the D-Line.
Thanks and Happy New Year.

A few things Bent:
- The obvious… The pass protection break down on the 2 Freeny sacks
- The obvious #2…. The Gholston tackle
- We generated zero pass rush.I know the Colts were max protecting but other than a Digs hit on Manning he didnt get touched in 2+ quaters
- B Thomas played really well. He seemed to be all over the field on running plays
- The breaking out of the slant route. It seems we finally ran a few with success
- Rhodes overall game seemed a bit down. Why was E Smith chasing D Clark more than a few times?
- Revis on Wayne. The Colts had a few shots to make a big play but Manning couldnt connet. it was the first time I saw Revis flat out beaten on a route
-
Definately the 2 freeney sacks. I thought they were supposed to be quick passes.
-
miket
The unmentioned scenario is this: The Colts leave PM and the first team in there, and they get beat anyway. How does that impact their confidence going into the playoffs? The last thing they wanted was to believe they weren’t as good as one of the other teams in the AFC. To see them get ground down by that attacking defense, if that is what might have happened, would have destroyed everything 14-0 built.
This way, everyone will assume they would have won, since Peyton left with a lead.
-
The back up offensive lineman got some real work, unfortunately. Interested to see how they performed in their cameos.
-
PS on the big sack/fumble/TD, would they have gotten to Peyton if he were the QB on that play?
-
WOJF,
I doubt they woudl have. That was a play where Painter probably held on a little too long.
-
Exactly ^^…Peyton gets rid of that ball quicker.
-
What happened to the screen game that was such a huge part of the offense? Since Leon went down nobody has stepped up.
-
I want to know if more coverages were rolled over to help out Lito on Austin Collie. Because if the starters stayed in, it looks like that would’ve killed us. Dallas Clark was shredding us too, so it would be good to know if we figured out a way to keep him under wraps at any point.
Seems like the Jets have been getting gashed by good TE/slot receivers all season.
-
A bit of subject; But I want to know who we play in the playoffs if we win this Sunday?
Is it NE or CIN?

Please post the clip of Gholston making a play. I must have missed his tackle and I have seen several posts about it.
