Mark Sanchez elects to have “College” Knee Surgery

by Weeks on February 2nd, 2010 at 7:50 am

After speaking with Dr. James Andrews and then soliciting two more opinions, Mark Sanchez has decided he will have surgery on his left knee in the coming weeks.

After soliciting second and third opinions, the Jets‘ franchise quarterback will have surgery in two or three weeks to strengthen a patella-stabilizing ligament, the Daily News has learned.

The operation, believed to be an arthroscopic procedure, will be performed by the Jets’ doctors, led by orthopedist Ken Montgomery.

Sanchez’s recovery time will be about two months, taking him until late April. He’s expected to be ready for training camp in late July, but he will miss at least the first month of the offseason program.

This is a good move by Sanchez because now when he comes back hopefully he’ll have a little more mobility and of course it will potentially save his career and Mark still has many years left him and he is eager to make the most of his time in the league.

Can you guys please find out how many draft picks the Jets have for the 2010 draft. Its hard keeping track after all the deals (ie. Lito Shepard, Brylan Edwards). I think its key that we draft and get some depth on this team going forward.

    RJ,

1, 2, 4, 6, 7, at least I believe that’s what we have. 3rd and 5th went to Cleveland for Edwards. Our 4th was part of the Lito trade, but assuming we cut him (and we damn well better since he’s due a $10 mil roster bonus if he isn’t) the Eagles lose out on our 4th rounder.

    We have a 1,2, 5, 6, and 7

We swap our 4th for the Eagles 5th do to the language of the Lito trade

The surgery has little to do with mobility, it is about stability. Preventitive medicine.

The key is to get the thing stabilized so that it does not dislocate again costing him and team a season.

Better to have surgery now than say in October.

I like the move. And he really won’t miss much that first month. He’ll be there for classes and walk throughs I assume, so I think he’ll be good to go, and if this solves a future problem, great.

I am sure it is best to get it done now and move on.

I admit I was hoping he and Braylon would be getting together alot to practice the long ball though. Sanchez throws a very pretty long ball I dont see how braylon cant catch those floaters.
