Hah I don't know why you would be offended, it's the truth. But hey, they play by the rules so you can't fault them for the system they work within.

Cap is necessary. Especially in this economy. Guys get paid enough as it is, stop playing games.

Brendan

I am trying to not be offended as a Yankee fan....lol

I did hear Smith the new player union rep...say he has spoken to all the players that head the union ( Mawae, Brees etc...) He explained that they are all aware that players will lose thier jobs and careers based on the stance they will take once the salary cap leaves.

I am not sure how strong the players are but Smith seems ready to dig his heels in

After hearing Baltimore's owner go off on how no salary cap let's the likes of the Yanks buy up all the talent, I would be surprised if there is no cap. He's a very well respected owner and I would have to believe a lot of owners feel the same way as him.

Shamik - "From what I hear, the cap is gone for good. If so, we’re probably in good shape for the future."

If the cap is gone for good, I think that's bad for the Jets. Some teams will spend unlimited amounts of money (Dallas, Washington) and ultimately end up with all the best players, much like the Yankees do in baseball.

The cap gives the Jets a competitive advantage because they manage it so well. With no cap, they would still have a competitive advantage over most small market teams, but they need to be on a level playing field with the best. Nobody wants to see the Superbowl monopolized by one or two teams for a long time.

Fortunately, I do think the cap will come back, as least in some form. I think it might be a "softer" cap, but the NFL will be a lot worse off without one.

In the short term, the Jets are fine (cap or no cap), but if there's a year of no cap and then the cap returns (which looks the most likely scenario), then that's the best case scenario IMO.
