PSA: Thanks For Another Great Year, 2010 Will Be Even Better

While seeing the Jets hoist the trophy (le sigh) would have been substantially more awesome, the Saints winning was probably the second way I’d have wanted to see the season end.

Seeing a team of cast-offs (Brees, Vilma, Shockey, Goodwin, Sharper, etc.) from New Orleans — interlopers at the Super Bowl — revitalizing their city’s hopes was a fantastic ending. If New Orleans can do this, then so too can the Jets.

Cliched as it is … why not us?

While my life has been a little tumultous, a little sleep deprived, during the past couple of weeks, we here at TJB wanted to do what we try to do at the end of every season … say thanks to you our readers. It’s one of the most important things we do, and we don’t do it enough, that sounds like pandering, but trust us when we say it isn’t.

You’re the reason we get to do this every day, you’re the reason we get up early, stay up late, think about this stuff in the car … it’s all because we know you’re doing the same thing!

Thanks for returning to this blog again and again.

Thanks for your insightful (and sometimes inciteful) comments.

Thanks for all your emails, tips and questions.

Thanks for your encouragement, humor, well-wishes and all around awesomeness.

While the offseason is going into full swing, we want you to know a few things

1) Like every year, we’re not going anywhere. We’ll still be here every day, with something for you to read about your favorite team day in and out.

2) We here at TJB LOVE the offseason. Honestly!! It gives us more of a chance to write creatively, rather than chase the stories during the season.

3) Based on traffic statistics, you readers LOVE the offseason as much as we do, there’s less information available from beat writer types and more intrigue to follow … who will the Jets sign or cut? Are they working on trades? Will the team bolster their coaching or scouting staff? What’s the Jets plan for the Draft?

Some things we’re vowing to do better in 2010 for you:

1) Add a better, more fully functional user experience for you the reader.

2) Enable the TJB community to allow you the readers to better interact with each other, drive stories to the blog, etc.

3) Add companion products (mobile or otherwise) to enhance your fan experience. We’ll need some help with this! (i.e. mobile appdev and/or & Adobe Air appdev experience)

4) Do a better job of filling in some of nooks and crannies via Twitter & other Social Media applicatons.

5) You’ve given us a powerful platform to stand on. It’s time to take you in our hip-pocket and broaden our reach and readership to other publications. We hope we can take you along for the ride!

Agreed, very happy for the Saints and the former Jets on that team…

Bassett, Bent, Weeks, Weiss, and everyone else who contributes to TJB: THANK YOU!!!

You guys are the best source for Jets info, you do one hell of a job!! So, pat yourselves on the back.. It’s great to have a place like this to share in the ups and downs of our favorite team with others who are just as passionate about rooting this gang of green to victory!!!

It may even exist since I am not the best technical mind in the world, but a function where a commenter could immediately return to their most recent comment would be a huge help. I am sure this has not been done due to difficulty.

This blog has a tremendous amount of content and comments on that content, which makes it difficult to pick up where you left off if you get busy and do not check in multiple times per day. I often leave a comment and go back to work, only to have to spend a bunch of time when I return the next day trying to retrace my steps.

This is not a problem on many blogs that post one or two blog entries a day and have 10-20 comments, but this site to its credit has a huge amount of traffic which just makes it a tad less than user freindly at times.

Not sure if it can be done but it would be a huge help, keep up the great work!

PS – if I am wrong and if this exists currently please forgive my stupidity and provide a guide. Thanks again for the terrific job year round.

    Bassett,

There have been times where ive wanted to access a past video or picture, but it seems only text gets saved in the archives. Maybe there can be a link on the web page for past videos or pictures?

  4. avatar patpat says:

ps – great job on everything you guys have done this season. you guys are great. really looking forward to the offseason reads

  5. avatar WOJF says:

And I have written this before but thanks to you bloggers and all the commenters here for welcoming a contrarian and debating the issues of the day in a civil reasonable manner, even when at times disagreeing strongly.

This site is truly a beacon in the dark world of trash talking, name calling blogs and message boards that largely populate the blogoshphere.

  6. avatar Led says:

Seeing Drew Brees whispering softly to his wide-eyed little boy in the middle of the milling crowd and then starting to well up was just about the most touching moment in sports in a good long while. How can you not be happy for the Saints and for New Orleans?

I just started visiting this site this year and think it’s great. I look forward to reading next year. Things are looking up for the J-E-T-S Jets.

  7. avatar AKA....Drew says:

Would you consider Goodwin a castoff? Was signed to a nice contract after being a special teams player and backup OL for us…..

Really didnt become a player until 2008 almost 6 years after being draft by us.

  8. avatar AKA....Drew says:

Like the other had already stated……TJB blog has become part of my daily routine the few years.

I even enjoy the battles between Kool Aid drinkers vs haters and everyone in between…..lol

  9. avatar Doug in Long Valley says:

Thanks for the great job!! I have two suggestions:

1-Partner with an existing seller of Jet gear that will put “www.thejetsblog.com” on the back of a limited number of items (start with green or white tees). They could tack on a few bucks to the price that could be funneled back to you to fund the site.

2-Have Bent offer “Jet Tours of London” where he spends the day taking guests to all of the famous Jet watering holes in center city.

  10. avatar greene says:

not to be nit picky but how about a new web design? lol. im not trying to bash, just saying, a more stylish look would be-fit the 2010/11 SUPERBOWL CHAMPIONS!

  11. avatar Andy says:

Congrats to the Saints, they deserve it. Yes, it has been fun on there this year with the battles we put up on here between the different types of fans, but what I saw towards the postseason is everyone on the same page and coming together, and that added to my sense of pride being a Jets fan. I cannot wait until next season. Until then I have to gear up for baseball and my Mets…

  12. Just want to say that up until about 5 years ago, I would be a little depressed the day after the super bowl, and not just ’cause the Jets weren’t in it (got used to that a while ago!) but because I knew that football related info would be scarce for the coming months. It always seemed like an eternity until the draft and even that was just a 3 day blip on the media radar.

So thanks for the great job that Basset, Bent et al do here at TJB. And thanks to posters like brendan, JR, aka drew, sd99, seanmac (and probably 2-3 dozen more that I am too groggy (good party, huh?) to think of right now) who consistently make great points. Thanks even to hank, nikloas and lgs whose often contrarian views (by contrarian I do not mean wrong, I simply mean different to what the majority on this blog think. Which is of course their right) help keep things interesting. Looking forward to a good offseason and an even better season!

  13. avatar RichKotite2.0 says:

Thank you Basset, Bent, and Company for providing such a high quality source of Jets information/discussion. TJB has become by far the best source to get all of your Jets information. TJB is more accurate and reliable in their reporting then the “traditional” media types and provides a lot more content and educated opinons. As much as I love watching the Jets, TJB has become as important to my Jets fanhood as actually watching Jets games.

  14. avatar Doug says:

Man, you guys really are amazing.

I read every article, most of the comments and I have to say that no matter where I am in the world away from home, (Boston, Tel Aviv for the past years) my TJB family keeps me honest as a Jet fanatic. Thank you so much, Basset, Bent, Angel, Weeks, Weiss, anyone I missed…JesusRevis, NamVetJet and all of the other regular commenters for not only helping me satisfy my craving for updates on my favorite team in the world, but stimulating my football knowledge and always teaching me more and more about the game.

Can’t wait for draft season, and to see nice new frontloaded deals for Revis, Mangold and the rest.

  15. avatar Andrew Weiss says:

I could offer walking tours of the River towns.

  16. avatar Harlan Lachman says:

I hope Rex and Tanny learn the key lesson from the SB.

The Saints won because they played to win. The Colts lost because they played not to lose.

The Saints decision to go on 4th and 1 near the end fo the first half could have blown up if the Colts had not played “it safe” with their stupid three running plays. One team went all in and got the three points anyway because the other team was trying to avoid a mistake (imagine a long pass on third and 1).

The onsides kick was another example. Had the Saints kicked off and the Colts scored….

Caldwell probably conceded the three points because he knew he was getting the ball back. This loser knew squat.

I think it all goes back to the decision to not play for greatness and go undefeated. He was trying to do the safe thing then and has nothing to show for it.

    Harlan

  17. avatar Rudibager says:

Thank you so much for giving people like me (Jets fans) a home!

  18. avatar Doug in Long Valley says:

Andrew, thanks for getting my joke!

I’m serious about the shirts though. And I’ve wondered about how you fund the site and the guys like you, Brian and Bent that seem to be at this 7×24.

  19. avatar SackDance99 says:

I think this Super Bowl also answered the question of what’s more important pass rush or DB play? The Colts for the most part played a straight 4 man rush (without a 100% Freeney) and a Tampa 2 cover. Brees was patient, wasn’t pressured for 3 quarters, took the underneath stuff and killed the Colts. The Saints, on the other hand, opted to pressure Manning, often putting their DBs in man coverage. It was the pressure of the all out blitz that caused Peyton to hurry his throws, ultimately causing the INT. Judging from the record number of completions (and high percentages) by both QBs combined, the DB play wasn’t great for either team. But, the team that mounted better pressure– the Saints — won the game. So, for off-season needs, a WILL/DE hybrid pass rusher who would make Rex’s blitzes more effective is the no. 1 priority, not another CB, especially a rookie that would face a pretty steep learning curve and a “baptism of fire” as the non-Revis CB.

Also, how much grief will I get for the shortest QB since Len Dawson to win a Super Bowl…ouch! Great blog, great articles…Long Live TJB!

  20. Totally agree that addressing the pass rush should be priority #1, then afterwards (in no exact order):

    * db
    * oline depth
    * Dline depth
    * slot wr
    * FB depth

and more likely than not thru waivers, blocking TE, RB, punter

    Brian/Brent:

Another year! Another job well done! This is still, bar none, the best site for Jets fans! Since you do a great job with everything you do, I expect the changes you make will be welcomed changes.

The off-season is actually when I spend more time on this site and it is a time of equal enjoyment.

    Keep up the good work!

  22. avatar jvsvn says:

Definitely, I big thank you goes out to Bassett (and to all the contributors). This blog has made being a Jet fan a lot more fun. Everybody keep up the good work in 2010.

  23. avatar TJBfan (twitter @infresco4) says:

I follow the site daily and I do agree a way to interact with the fellow fans would be awesome. I love the articles and the team does a good job but the chat rooms are pretty nice since we can talk about anything.

One example is PSLs. The Jets have been running referral offers which include an autographed Mark Sanchez football or two pregame VIP passes to get on the field. With the amount of Jet fans that plan on getting PSL seats regardless it would be nice to meet a fellow TJBreader and hit the field with them!

  24. avatar kob says:

If it wasn’t the Jets i was hoping it will be the Saints with Drew Brees! what a deserving QB and person this young man is.
Congratulations!!!!!!! till next year go Jets….

  25. avatar firstdown77 says:

Wonderful Blog! Gotta love it. Since a half a year ago, I’ve enjoyed reading more than 95% of all the posts and lots of the comments. I’ll keep coming back day after day. Thank you Bassett, Bent, Weeks, Andrew Weiss, Corey Griffin, Angel Navedo, and everyone else.

  26. avatar Aran says:

    TJB,

You guys do a GREAT job with this website. I love the offseason also because this is where the Jets can close the gap on other teams via the draft and a strong free agency class. Keep up the great work

    Aran

  27. avatar Sid says:

I’ve never posted to TJB, but this seems like a good time to thank the entire staff of the TJB for the work they do on this site. It’s not only my primary stop for Jets news, it’s my first stop for all NFL news.

I am especially appreciative of the content that the TJB is able to supply during the offseason when there is a dearth of hard news.

Btw, the commenters on this site are generally topnotch too. Very little flaming and lots of informed comments.

    Thanks to all.

  28. avatar bubbybrister/shovelpass says:

Agreed…I’m so glad I found this site 3.5 years ago (I think). Love the hard work that the writers do, the classiness of the bloggers, the “world according to [insert contrarian blogger here]“, and somehow I miss the Ed(itor), Johnny Stein, Jetchick, et al even though I never knew them.

Keep up the good work, guys!

I would love to see a tool that would allow me to see and click to my last few personal posts, since I’m limited in how often I can access TJB and reciprocate. (work and real-life gets in the way!)
