Over the next few days, we want to hear from you about players, coaches and front office staff and whether you approve or disapprove of their contributions to the team. Basically, do you want them to stay on in 2010?
Mike Pettine’s 2009 Highlights:
- Comes from a first family of football all his own.
- Joined Rex from Baltimore.
- Was a reason in Jim Leonhard’s joining the Jets.
- Rhodes admitted his problems with Pettine were “Day One” stuff.
- Is the Felix Unger to Rex’s Oscar Madison.
- Came up with a plan to mitigate the loss of Kris Jenkins.
- Took some oversight of the DL after the team fired Kerry Locklin.
- Didn’t exactly stand up for Kerry after his benching.
- Made use of Kerry, even during his exile.
- Was “the guy behind the guy.”
- Had a good chuckle at his boss’s superstitions.
Add any thoughts in the comments.

I like the fact that he was honest when asked about Gholston before, during and after the season. He admitted that Gholston has yet to translate his strength and speed for the weight to the field and he was not sure if he ever would if rex and him couldnt get it out of him.
Will never truly get alot of credit as Rex runs the defense and has zero intention of letting that go.
Seems like a good coach and is from a great football family. Should be around a while unless he gets a great chance somewhere else in a bigger role….College Coach??

Our defense is great, imo the most glaring need on this defense is Cb. If we can sign Leigh bodden(best available CB, and falls under the Rule 8), we can draft best available palyer. With expiring contracts is it possible to sign him???…would put this somewhere else but dont know where.

Who disapproved? Would LOVE to know your reasons…
-
Probably people who get their jollies trying to be contrarian.
-
Joey porter just got cut by dolphins if anyone cares
-
Who ever dissaproved is either stupid or a Pats fan.
-
One missing highlight is the fact that Pettine finished second in Rex’s King Ugly competition.
-
Joey porter just got released…. Can we pick him up now or does the ” final 8 rule” get in the way?

Tough to knock the DC of the #1 defense. Areas for improvement are:
1) More stops in clutch situations / Finish games
2) More sacks
3) Locking up the side of the field not covered by RevisGotta give him a ton of respect, especially considering the loss of Jenkins. I’m very excited to see what this D-line can do when at full strength! Just makes me smile.

You made my point, how can one disapprove when they haven’t seen him independently…9 votes of disapproval ?

I wonder whats the cap hit for getting rid of Gholston….never flashed on film to me, I saw nothing…..Quintin Groves who knew the 3-4 out of Auburn is playing quite well, for alleged heart defects….damn…..Mangini and his good nature boy view. I believe Mangini would have drafted Tebow as the top QB.

I agree: the most glaring need on this D is at CB (the CB playing opposite Revis).
Drafting the best CB available might be the way to go, especially if we can’t pick up a quality corner in a trade.

I mean I know Rex runs the D, but you have to get some credit for helping turn a defense that was “soft” IMO under Mangini, and turning into the #1 overall ranked statistical defense.
You never really know who does what unless you have a headset, but Pettine HAS TO HAVE at some point came up with some of the adjustments we have seen our D make during our run this year

Hard to judge him. How much was him vs. how much did Rex do? It’s kind of like the hoodie’s D-Coordinators, we don’t know how much responsibility they had.
That being said, he obviously works well with Ryan so I approve.
