2010 Prospect Meetings

By E. Weeks on 28. Feb, 2010

Bent approached me with a very good idea: compile a master list of the prospects the Jets have met with. And that is what I have decided to do. Below you will find names and a link (player’s name will be linked) that contains information on that player.

You can leave comments with your thoughts on a certain player. You can also leave a comment letting me know if the Jets recently met with a prospect who isn’t on the list yet.

WR, Golden Tate

RB, Andre Dixon

DE, Willie Young

WR, David Reed

DE/OLB, Greg Hardy

I can’t take credit for the idea – this is something that Bassett has done in the past.

these guys all seem to be projects and not worth even a late round pick…for ex…i never thought donald brown was a good RB and this kid dixon lost his job to him…and again got outdone by a sophmore…when will we see them talk to some real talent…just my thoughts…

dakar- I understand your logic but arguing that a player losing their job somehow lowers their value is a tricky assessment. Joe Flacco couldn’t get past Tyler Palko on the Pitt squad back in 2004 and look where they are now respectively. That said, I think that we’ll see a lot of these kind of interviews since Tannenbaum, Clinkscales and Bradway pride themselves on finding later round talent.

so your saying you would be ok with it if the jets were to draft this underachiever…

as for all these players they interviewed so far they all seem to be light weiths and or not fast enough…or is it im tired of all the projects we’ve had over the years… and i would rather draft good players and nomore projects…just my thoughts

Speaking of combine…… Just got in and saw CJ Spiller run a sub 4.3 40……

On top of that my “sleeper” Jacoby Ford also from Clemson ran a sub 4.3 40. Guess hes not a sleep anymore.

u must have not seen dixon run that is why u said that

Tate is the only legitimate 1st or 2nd rounder in this group. I bet a lot of these interviews are done to set up the undrafted invites to camp.

Jacoby Ford is a track star. If he didn’t run a sub 4.3, it would have been a disappointment.

I’m pretty surprised Toby Gerhart put up that good of a 40. I always thought he was on the slow side. I think he’ll be a pretty good pro.

I love reading these things every year, and surprisingly most of the Jets on the lists are in positive categories (assuming you consider “cocky” as a positive). Though its sad that the brightest and most respected players in NY might not be here next year

I think he is going to be a really good slot WR….plus anytime a player runs a sub 4.3…… its impressive

cards just released antrolle rolle. sign him trade rhodes for a 3round pick

I don’t think the Jets can sign Rolle.

I believe they can because he was cut and I hope they sign him and trade Rhodes for a few picks

I Brought this scenario up a while ago so ima do it again…SIGN ROLLE TRADE RHODES AND A PICK TO THE CARDINALS FOR DOCKETT!!!

  18. Bent
    28. Feb, 2010 at 4:44 pm #

If a player is released, there’s nothing to stop the Jets trying to sign him and they don’t need to lose a UFA first.

  19. jetsfan101
    28. Feb, 2010 at 4:47 pm #

Sign rolle and then trade Rhodes and a 1st rounder to the Browns for the 7th overall pick and draft joe haden. Haden and Revis would be crazy good for years to come and Mangini gets an old player of his

  20. head_coach
    28. Feb, 2010 at 4:48 pm #

yes they can he was released

  21. neauone
    28. Feb, 2010 at 4:50 pm #

The Jets are pretty much mum on who they want, you really never know until draft day. The Jets also hit the FA market pretty good before the draft. I look for the Jets to address many of their needs with cut players, released players than hit the draft with the value they see at the time. No one can say for certain that S. Greene was going to be the Jets 2nd round pick last year. We certainly don’t need to waste a pick on WR, this year as next years crop is supposed to be exceptional. DE makes sense in order to take pressure of the corners and RB makes sense as well to strengthen the running game.

Is Rolle a better player than Rhodes? I know has his haters right now but I think Rolle is just as overrated as the Jet fans think Rhodes is….maybe I am wrong though

I just dont see the big market for Kerry Rhodes out there though

  25. jetsfan101
    28. Feb, 2010 at 5:19 pm #

A fairly young athletic safety who before this year was a pro-bowler, Im sure the jets would be able to get anywhere from a mid 2nd rounder to a late third rounder.

  26. Bent
    28. Feb, 2010 at 5:26 pm #

Rolle was rated 67th out of 87 safeties in the NFL last year by PFF. Rhodes was 2nd.

Last year Rolle was decent against the run, but awful in coverage.

Unless we dramatically upgrade at the CB position, he would be a terrible fit for this defense. A third rounder will not enable them to do that unless they forgo other needs IMO.

  27. AKA....Drew
    28. Feb, 2010 at 5:40 pm #

Thank You Bent…… Alot of fans always assume other teams “problem” players are going to be better than our own.

As “awful” as some fans think Rhodes was last year we did have the #1 defense in the league….and he did play alot better after his benching

  28. head_coach
    28. Feb, 2010 at 5:45 pm #

haha bent yea i would probably rated 1st safety if my coach was ryan and my coner was revis. he doesnt even have to help him. but rolle on the other hand has to help his coners. its always to sides to the story

  29. head_coach
    28. Feb, 2010 at 5:48 pm #

Btw I dont remember Rolle being benched last year. Hhhhmmm let me think….

  30. AKA....Drew
    28. Feb, 2010 at 5:52 pm #

What does it matter that he was benched? Osi was benched by the Giants and is a top ten pass rusher in the NFL.

Rhodes had an attitude issue that needed to be adjusted with a benching.

Rolle was part of a horrible defense and has not even come close to living up to his 1st round status…plus he was moved to safety as he was a horrible CB.

  31. head_coach
    28. Feb, 2010 at 6:14 pm #

Well his attitude needs to go somewhere. If we get rolle and a pick id take it. Rhodes aint nothen special and can be expendable just like Thomas jones. BTW is wasnt even his attitude. He was run over countless times by a 185 lb WR for the Patriots more then once. My MY do we forget?? lmao . The man hits like my sister. Golly. The Wr was 5’9 185 lbs. Kerry Rhodes is 6’3 220. Does that make since to you? Thats like me pounding out Mike Tyson.

rolle can not cover a TE like rhodes

  33. AKA....Drew
    28. Feb, 2010 at 6:21 pm #

Who cares that he go run over a few times? He is not a big hitting safety….But he is a top level coverage player.

I am not sure why some of you guys love somebody elses players….Have you seen Rolle play much? He is not very good.

Rolle is not a big hitter either and is disgusting in coverage….

Rhodes is much more valuable to us then a 3rd or 4th rounder (which is all we would get)

  34. Eddie DiGio
    28. Feb, 2010 at 6:41 pm #

Rhodes got benched because Rex demands a certain level of intensity on the field and commitment from his guys off of it. Rhodes got sent a message.

Rhodes benching was more of a motivational tool for the rest of the team than a personal punishment. He showed that no matter what kind of contract you have, no matter how pretty you are, you dont play like a Jet you are riding the pine.

Kerry at the top of his game is a better, smarter football player than Antrell Rolle, who regressed so badly this past season it was disgusting

  35. Bent
    28. Feb, 2010 at 6:46 pm #

Rolle actually was benched at the start of the 2007 season.

1 player i wouldn’t mind having would be carlos dansby…him and pace back together again and the dynamic duo in the middle would make the best LBing core in the leauge…or at least in my mind it would be… :o) …

and trade are 1st and whatever picks to get ASO…the D. would be down right insane…this ofcourse if its possible…just my thoughts…

I KNOW we NEED a passrusher but we also have to get Sanchez a new TOY. If we added Tate for instance, with Edwards,Cotchery,Keller, and yeah, even Brad Smith, that would be a pretty POTENT offense.

I’m a Kerry Rhodes fan for the record but for anybody to say isn’t a quality player is idiotic. He is at least on the level of Kerry. 25 covers better and 21 is more willing to take ya head off. Come on rolle had 70 tkls and 5 int I believe and was in the pro bowl also. Personally I rather have a physical player instead if a finesse guy manning the safety spot but I don’t mind having Kerry there.

Btw: if you are from the” U “no way you aren’t a servicable player at the very least do ya history. Well maybe Kareem brown he is trash lol but other than that we produce nothing but animals !! is k.b. even still on the jets though?

  49. AKA....Drew
    01. Mar, 2010 at 7:46 am #

    youngjet?

Players from the “U” 10 years ago can make that statement…..the “U” hasnt been the “U” since then and a ton of players have been in and out of the league from the “U”.

Rolle is not a better player than Rhodes I dont care how hard he tackles. Adrian Wilson is a better player than Rhodes but not Rolle.

BTW….Have you ever seen Rolle play other than a highlight here and there? just wondering

  50. Bent
    01. Mar, 2010 at 8:00 am #

Even Wilson, who I do rate alongside Rhodes, had a lousy first half last year. On balance, Kerry’s year was probably better, even though it was a down year for him individually.

  51. WOJF
    01. Mar, 2010 at 8:01 am #

Did they meet with Shonn Greene or Matt Slauson last year?

  52. neauone
    01. Mar, 2010 at 9:57 am #

It should be evident that the Jets have a knack for moving up if they think the guy they want will be there. I think the Jets did meet with S.G. but not as much as many of the other players they considered. I think we can assume they had their collective eyes at doing whatever they could to get Sanchez. When the owner, the coach and the GM go to see you personally, watch you work out, than you know they are very seriously considering moving up. Dare I say the Jets would have sweetened the pot if Mangini held out a little longer. Greene was a steal, they gave up some extra picks and look at the benefit of such a move. So this year, yeah, they will do their do diligence. But if you see or hear of them wining and dinning someone, this is a sure sign that player is high on their list. I would be happy with Oldruk, and Gephart.

  53. SuffernJetsFan
    01. Mar, 2010 at 9:20 pm #

Golden Tate reminds me of a bigger and faster version of the Panthers Steve Smith. I really hope teams pass over him due to his lack of height and he slips to the Jets at 29. He would be the steal of the draft. He is a PLAY MAKER. Made so many spectacular grabs for an awful ND team. He plays nasty with a chip on his shoulder. A guy Sanchez could form a strong bond with and become a part of the foundation of the Jets future.

BTW… Kudos to Michael Irvin on NFL network regarding 40 times…. They should be forced to run 40′s out of the WR set position and in the 3rd quarter of a game. We all remember Johnny Lamb Jones…

  54. Daniel
    08. Mar, 2010 at 12:37 am #

Can we get a prospect watch on Georgia’s Reshad Jones? He could be a great mid-round option. I also like LSU’s Chad Jones.
