As I previously mentioned yesterday, Rex Ryan had a chance to speak at the combine and talked about a variety of topics that included Vernon Gholston. Below are some of the other highlights from Ryan’s conference:
Notes via Graham:
- Ryan notes that it will be tough to get back to where they were however he is telling everybody right now to “strap it up” because the Jets are coming.
- The final eight rules are a pain but the Jets will have to build with what they have or “find a way.”
- Rexy is keeping tabs on Buffalo’s switch to the 3-4 scheme.
Notes via Cimini:
- Ryan “eulogized” TJ.
- Ryan didn’t want to open his mouth about Aso or AT in fear of possible tampering charges.
- Rex is “proud” of Sanchez who is healing well. It seems the Jets may throw a bit more this season despite their “Ground and Pound” mentality.
- Sexy Rexy talks about his wardrobe malfunction — appearently he isn’t too upset considering he still gets hit on by women.
- He pointed out that he is no Boy Scout but he is maturing.

sexy rexy is attracting the ladies!
What I thought was interesting is in handling the Gholston question, you could see why guys would want to play for this guy.
Rather than throw Gholston under the bus (which no one would blame him for), he threw the blame on his own shoulders, saying he thought the coaches could’ve done more to get Gholston involved. By the same token, he also suggested that Gholston needed to take it upon himself to take it to the next level.
It’s exactly the kind of answer you’d want from your boss — publicly fell on the sword for you, shouldered the blame for your underwhelming performance, didn’t outright criticize you to others, but also let it be known that he expects you to rise to the challenge and do better going forward.
Well played, as they say. I know people like to paint Rex with the broad “blue-collar buffoon” brush — which I think he likes to encourage to set people up — but I think he’s a LOT smarter and craftier than anyone gives him credit for. Well, aside from us!
R in CT well put i know this might sound crazy but after the atlanta game when he came in and spoke of the jets being eliminated i personally thought he was saying that on purpose. I love this guy. Bottom line is he is in a win win with Gholston he didnt draft him He’s given him every chance in the world during the first 3 games of the season. I personally think that he is thinking too much and they have t play him in situation where he just rushes the passer.
See YA Thomas Jones!! I like the guy but i am comparing this to the Curtis Martin situation except we are cutting him loose before he lets us down. I wanted him back but not at that cost
Here’s Cimini on Thomas Jones:

No salary cap in 2010 and uncertainty surrounding Washington’s condition. . . . [The Jets] will miss Jones’ leadership and work ethic.
They should’ve kept him. I’m willing to bet there’s another 1,000-yard season left in Jones’ legs, and the Jets better hope he doesn’t land on a team they play in 2010. (The Patriots, anyone?)
On the most important running play of the 2009 season — fourth-and-1 in the San Diego divisional playoff game — who did Rex Ryan want to have the ball? Jones. Despite all the Greene fireworks, the coach wanted Jones.
I rest my case.

Who is AT?
Adalius Thomas.
Maybe they might resign him, via free agency. Although I highly doubt it though. Still he was a great and dependable back while he was with us.
A great replacement for Curtis Martin while he was here.
