I know that people are saying that none of these moves are a big deal, but it has nothing to do with the players involved (at least for me). I’m just getting frustrated because all signs point to Woody tightening the belt here (perhaps he shouldn’t have charged these ridiculous PSLs). I am not worried about Wallace Wright, Kerry Rhodes, Thomas Jones, or any other individual as much as I am worried about what the Jets seem to be doing financially. That’s what is driving me crazy. There was no reason to get rid of Jones- absolutely none besides not wanting to pay him for one last uncapped year. He’d have no effect next year (2011). They threw away a veteran leader and solid runner (who I believe is on the decline) and created tension in a locker room that was so team-oriented to save what amounts to pocket change (around 3 mil) for Woody Johnson- IN AN UNCAPPED YEAR. There was absolutely no reason to get rid of Jones other than the Jets brass crying poor. I think that move is what worries me the most- TJ brought no negatives to the table other than being expensive in an uncapped year. The others I can all justify, but that is absurd.
I would have to assume Tanny is lying about being “set” at safety. Or at least I am praying that’s the case.
I’m just waiting, holding me breath a little for the next big announcement of a marque player that they have signed. I may be wrong but I think it is going to happen. Even if it doesn’t maybe they’re building up some ammo for the draft and they have seen some players they are going to aggressively tareget (i.e what they did last year with Sanchez, Greene…)
about being comfortable about smith and diggs as starters tanny said we are def gonna add 1 or 2 more guys at that position whether it be draft or free agency
Oh please be lying.
Coles would be nice in the slot on the cheap. Hey it gives us one less thing to want.
Tanny must not have been watching any of the games that Digs or Smith actually had to cover someone.
Every Jet fan better hope Tanny is a lying SOB on top of being a “cap genius”
As to the Manassy story where there were “rumors” of a fist fight between TJ and Rhodes? This is coming from a girl named “LilMissNYJet “….. Cmon seriously? To Erik’s credit he doubted the story but why do I find this hard to beleive that 2 top players in NY had a fight and nobody but “LilMsNYJet” knows about it…. lol
If you read the article, although the headline says he feels set, he never actually said that, he just implied they could contribute.
In any case, he also said they would add one or two more safeties, who – by definition – must be better than Smith and Digs in coverage and therefore, since the other starting safety needs to be able to cover, they are certain to be an upgrade.
Only the Jets would have two safeties on their team who can’t cover.
Bent
We all know he is adding someone….. but its a complete fib for him to say we felt comfortable trading Rhodes because Digs and Smith were here……again at least we hope
Kerry, don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.
There are many variables we are unaware of including contract talks with guys we want to lock up long term, draft boards and trade discussions.
Yes these moves don’t make sense but lets wait and see where the road takes us.
I don’t see any of the moves so far as showing Woody being “cheap”. Jones was not worth his contract. Either he signs elsewhere, and we get to sign a player, or he resigns with the team at the right price.
Woody wants to win.
Of course these moves make sense…
TJ- old and trips over his own feet….not going to make 5.8 mil. with any other team.
Kerry Rhodes- Is not all that into his football career and tweets about the Jets way too much.
We have to sign guys who are worth it (Revis, Mangold) and cut the fat. Tanny has only made one mistake (Gholston)….so give him some credit.
He wants to win because that is how he will make the most money. If he decides to be cheap, he will lose money because the team will lose and then he really won’t sell tickets.
We are letting people go like we actually won something last year.
How is this team worse by dropping Lito, Kerry and TJ ??
You replace people (not let go) when you lose a championship game. All of the above mentioned guys sucked when we needed them.
TJ- couldn’t run in the AFC game.
Kerry Rhodes- was nowhere to be found.
Lito- was chillen with Gholston on the bench.
The team is better today then it was before the cuts.
E. Weeks-
You write: “Tannenbaum feels ‘set’ with Smith and Diggs. Why do I get the feeling he is lying through his teeth?”
I hope you’re right, E. Weeks.
Otherwise, Mike T has just created a major hole in our D. And he isn’t going to fix it.
I am actually glad that Tanny said he feels set with smith and digs at safety, because almost every time he endorses a player/players, the player(s) are let go/traded and/or that position is upgraded. Rhodes is the most recent example, but this happened with QB (twice, before Favre and Sanchez) and at receiver before Edwards. There are probably a few other examples as well. I’d be worried if he didn’t follow this pattern!
EXACTLY NYC Parking Expert. I remember reading an interview with Schotty last year where he said he unequivocally believes the next Jets starting QB is already on the roster (i.e. Clemens or Ratliff) and there’s no way they’ll draft a new guy. How’d that work out?
Tanny’s going to do what he always does, claim that they’re SO happy with the players they’ve got, act like there’s no way in the world they’ll trade up for someone else (why would they? how absurd!), and then they’ll do just that.
