Chatter about Leon going to the Patriots might slow down, since the team signed their veteran RB Kevin Faulk to a one-year deal today.

The Patriots might well still make a play, but it sure looks a lot more unlikely now. While it does potentially close the door on the Washington to New England talk, there still might be more teams that would be interested in Washington.

dont see what the big deal is. Leon is not going anywhere at least not this year
I’m happy to hear that. Leon is a huge part of the offence. He adds a safety valve for Sanchez and is so explosive whenever the ball is in his hands ! They should stop playing with him and sign this guy
IM PRAYING WE GET TO KEEP LW, IM A BIG FAN OF HIS, AND IM SURES HES GOING TO BOUNCE BACK FROM HIS INJURY…JUST WANT IT TO BE IN GREEN AND WHITE!
He hasn’t visited anyone yet anyway. There is not much interest in him.
i truly believe no team is going to want to part ways with a 2nd rounder for him…i think we are going to sign him to a cheap contract thats going to be filled with alot of incentives…for the most i dont think hes goin anywhere and the jets f.o. got him by the juebos
Finally a little bit of good news….. No only is this good for Leon sticking around but Faulk and his old ass is still with NE. The Faulk magic is over and he will never beat us again.
Theres no way we let Tj and Lw go. Everyone stop acting like little girls.
rumor or not ? justin fargus to nj friday. jets or giants????
Tom:
” Theres no way we let Tj and Lw go.”…If you are soo sure about that , why is everyone so worried?
Better yet, why did we get to this point anyway?????
Who wouldn’t want a 28 yr old RB coming off a BROKEN leg ..? I don’t no why teams aren’t lining up to throw their 2nd round picks at us.. *sarcasm*
I for one am Very upset .. I WANT that second round pick .. I’m loyal to about 6 Jet players (sanchez,Revis,Scott, mangold,Brick,Green) maybe a few others after that I’m all about Value & the oppertunity to Upgrade. I hope someone throws a “poison pill” his way . I could go to 42nd street and buy a backup RB for 18 dollars .. I want that pick .. I smart GM can do so many things with a extra 2nd round pick .. Realy hope someone team dumbs down .. Because “Keels” will jump on the first multi year multi mill contract he can get his hands on ..
The guy probably can’t even play ST anymore ..
I agree with Marvel. I want the second rounder, but the only team I wouldn’t want Leon on is NE. Let SF throw crazy money at him and let the NYJ take another second rounder. Goodnight.
“The Faulk magic is over and he will never beat us again.”
Hell yea Drew. I HATE that guy…
I get that Vargas is a nice player but this guy is always hurt…..He does have skills that are impressive but do we need another guy that he glued to IR?
Skeptical of Vargas
I agree keep getting picks. But i must say i would love JOEY PORTER for cheap $$$. This guy has a great motor and can help with our draft pick & VG. He would be a good fit!!!!!!!!!!!! players love him. just like tj……tanny must atleast call………………………………….
For another example of how A Keels is a jackass…. Rotoworld is saying Keels reported that Mt Cody did 32 reps of 225 at his Pro Day but all other reports have him at 22 reps. Which is huge since he lost a bunch of weight since the Senoir Bowl.
Couple of things here…How many years in a row is an Alabama kid going to screw up after a productive college career? How many players are going to use this pimp as an agent?
ill take either one leon or the 2nd rounder…off topic what you guys think we need more a straight up defensive end or a hybrid olb???
Marvel, i agree with you except you forgot to put David Harris in your list.
Rusty, 1) i think your correct saying no one is gonna give up a 2cd rounder for him, and 2) the whole DE/OLB debate depends on if we’re able to sign AT or Porter. If we do i think we take a pass rushing end. If not we should just take the best DE or OLB left on the board. Sergio Kindle or Brandon Graham preferably. But if there is a possibility to move up for Berry i think we should pull the trigger on that deal asap.
Fellas,
This is a great bargaining chip for the Jets to determine what is LW fair market price will be. Running backs are starting to be a dime a dosen when it comes to finding a decent back on the cheap. Backs get hurt quite often to tie up too much money. The Jets are well school when it comes to finances, especially not over paying for free agent services. But I’m sure Leon will be around at least for one year to prove once again what his worth is, especially down the stretch when he is needed the MOST! Show me the money will then come.
Leon’s safe for now. Other teams will keep an eye on him over the next month or so, and someone might end up making an offer, but it’s hard to see anyone pulling out the stops for an RB coming off a major leg injury.
The Patriots have always seemed to me the most likely culprits, given their three 2nd round picks, extreme need and rival status, and this move doesn’t mean they won’t still go after him, but in the end, I doubt he’s going anywhere.
Wow, I’m shocked, disappointed and frankly disgusted by how quickly some “fans” are willing to throw Leon away like trash. It wasn’t even a year ago that we were BEGGING for an extension for him and it wasn’t even six months ago that we were signing ‘get well’ cards for him. Now a second round pick is more valuable than Leon effing Washington? Are you serious? Leon is one of the best playmakers the Jets have EVER had. He has singlehandedly won games for us and he’s a threat to score every time he touches the ball. Of course he’s coming back from a serious injury, but every available sign says that he’s ahead of schedule, and hell, even if he’s 75% of his best, I’d take that over a no-guarantees second round pick without hesitation. Besides, Leon was one of the most popular guys on the team, letting him walk would say a hell of a lot to the rest of the players about how much the Jets value years of production the second you get injured.
Anybody who really prefers a second rounder to Leon Washington is a clown. Sorry. Exhibit A: “The guy probably can’t even play ST anymore ..”
Thanks Doctor. How can anybody who’s rooted for the Jets for more than one year be more loyal to Sanchez and Greene than Leon? I love both guys and don’t want them to go anywhere, but they each have about eight good games on their resume. How the hell does that trump all Leon’s done for the Jets? These have to be new Jet fans. After seeing firsthand the ovations Leon got at both the Bengals game and the Times Square rally, I can’t come to any other conclusion.
Leon to the Pats would be devastating. Darrelle and Leon are my 2 favorite Jets.
Drew – Wait…Keels is Cody’s agent?
*moves Cody to last place on draft wishlist*
*wonders how many NFL teams just did the same*
How? Andre Smith surely can’t have recommended him. This guy must throw one heck of a pool party…
Joe B,
I am one of Leon’s biggest fans but am a fan of the team first so I prefer the second round pick at this point.
As for loyalty, he should have signed the very fair offer the Jets made, but instead listened to his jackass agent. If there was no loyalty to TJ, who did everything correct, why should there be any for Leon?
Leon had already been benched on special teams prior to his injury, so at this point he is simply a part time running back coming off the first major injury of his career, which makes him a huge ???.
IF someone makes him a big offer, take the pick and use it to sign Landry or some other RFA starting caliber player. If the offer is reasonable and they like his medical updates, then match it.
Either way I am ok, but I dont want to match a big money deal just because of some sense of “loyalty”.
Signed, Clown
PS – The fact that Leon has not visited with anyone should not be taken as a lack of interest, he and the teams will probably wait as long as possible to get the most recent medical reports. He will likely schedule a pro day type workout about ten days before the signing period ends, at least if I was his agent thats what I would recommend.
If we lose leon it would be 3rd rd pick not a 2nd. Since he was drafted in the 4th rd and we tender him a 2nd we get a 3rd.
Off topic but is anyone else surprised that Harstock got 3.2M over two years, seems a lot for a blocking TE.
I suspect this mean TRich will not be back since one or the other, not both, were usually on the field and they must anticipate an increased roll to pay him this much.
Mike – I think you have the rules mixed up.
Leon got a 2nd round tender offer so his compensation is most definitely a second rounder.
Clemens on the other hand only got an original round tender and because someone picked later than him got a higher tender, it is his original round compensation which, by rule, drops by one round from a 2nd (where he was drafted) to a 3rd.
Bent
Yea…. I was stunned Cody has Keels as his pimp…um I mean agent.
It must be the flashy suits or the active twitter accounts that keeps these players coming to him…..or like you said thsoe pool parties
Wow. I do not want Mount Cody at all anymore. Keels apparently is trying to corner the market on massive behemoths with no work ethic.
Mr. Green Thing,
I hate to break it to you, but Leon wasn’t exactly tearing it up last year before his injury. The new kickoff rules clearly impacted his return game in a negative way, and he didn’t have a touchdown in 6+ games.
I love the kid too, but if a team signs him to a deal way above his market value, I’ll take the pick.
As for our most dangerous offensive weapon, that is debatable. Braylon can score a TD on any given play and it appears Greene has deceptive breakaway speed. You can’t call a guy who just had his leg snapped in half and had it surgically repaired our most dangerous offensive weapon.
Bent, Since you are discussing rules concerning RFA, if the Pats were to sign Leon and the Jets chose not to match (difficult to imagine), which of the Pats 3 second round picks would they owe the Jets?
tish – I know you don’t get to choose which one, but I have conflicting sources: One says it’s your original pick, provided you still have it, but the other says it’s the highest pick. I’m inclined to believe the first one, which would mean it’s a late second rounder.
Keels must be doing something unethical to lure all these players. His track record is awful.
Tish and Bent,
The rule is your original pick. If you do not have your original pick, then it has to be the closest pick that you have which is equalt to or better than your original. So the Pats have 3 picks (44 from JAX, 47 from TENN, and 53 their own), we would get #53 overall.
I hope this ends the “Leon to Pats” hysteria. It’s funny, but the recent track record of former Jets going to the Pats hasn’t been that great. Hobson barely played and was released and Baker has been released. The hysterical braying on this blog about both moves was laughable.
Could Leon have seamlessly replaced Faulk and improved the Pats? I think that, objectively, that would’ve been a tall order. Faulk has been the premier 3rd down/situational RB in the NFL for a long time. Yes, Leon is more talented and younger (but coming off of a major leg injury), however, Faulk has been a heck of a player…he’s also a great blocker. When Leon’s contract issues came up last year, I had regular flame wars with several unnamed regulars that Leon should not be paid much more than Faulk. Leon and his knucklehead agent turned down a deal that was above the Faulk range last year. His one-year deal could be worth up to $3 million. Hey Keels, that’s the range of Leon’s worth and if you keep thinking that he’s worth more, he’ll keep on being paid less than that because the Jets can control him for less.
JFiSF – Thought so. Let the record show that CBSSports had it wrong.

Maybe I missed something, but when was Leon “benched” on Special Teams? Pretty sure we scrambled for a KR and PR when he went down. And yeah, I think Leon deserves a little more loyalty from Jet fans/brass than TJ because he was homegrown. If someone else signs him to a huge deal, fine, but my issue is more with Jet fans so quickly turning their back on Leon because he got hurt. It saddens me and reeks of bandwagon jumping.
Before people rip me apart, hear me out…
I don’t want Leon back. His injury is too much for him to overcome. I think he can overcome and play football again, just not at the high level he used to compete at.
As for loyalty to Leon…that’s a joke. First off, this is a business and there is no loyalty in business. Second, the Jets gave him a great offer last year that he turned down and in returned sat out a day or 2 in mini-camp..I know thats nothing compared to some other guys, but still.
Let’s get a #2 and try and use it to get B Marhsall or trade up and get a game breaker like Spiller.
PS- I love Leon, I really do but just like TJ…Thanks for the memories.

Your reason for not wanting Leon back is pure conjecture. I understand being wary of giving him a lot of money coming back from injury, but to say “get rid of him because I know he won’t be the same” is just foolish unless you’re his doctor.
And it was clear Leon was just getting bad advice and didn’t really want to hold out, otherwise he would’ve sat out all of camp. Leon’s a stand-up guy and he wants to be a Jet.
Joe B, I mispoke saying he was replaced before he got hurt.
Jim Leonhard returned punts Week 1 and will do so again next year, but yes Leon was still returning kicks.
But Brad Smith has now overtaken him returning kicks, so he has no roll on special teams other than perhaps backing up both positions.
Westoff was quoted to the effect that Brad is a good fit returning kicks under the new “no-wedge” rules.
