As the Jets journey towards the draft in April, we here at TJB will be taking a look into prospects that could be on the Jets draft board. Today we will be taking a look at: Georgia product, Reshad Jones

Projected Round: Second or Third.
Measurables: Stands at 6’2. Weighs in at 215 lbs.
Positives: Jones can turn and run well while maintaining his balance and gets the most out of his jumps. He will break up a ton of passes. Jones can find running lanes quickly and does a great job in run support because of his instincts. He has quite a bit of experience in man coverage and can anticipate routes and lanes well. He is great when pursuing the ball carrier and will rarely be caught out of position. Jones is a sure tackler who will always bring down his man if he is the last line of defense and will make big hits. He can be very trustworthy as a Cover 2 safety.
Negatives: Jones drops a lot of easy INT’s by letting the ball get into his body (thus the reason for his ability to break up a ton of passes). He can lose his feet if he tries to stick with a receiver underneath. Jones can be late in single, high coverage and does not have the range to be trusted as a single high Cover 1 safety. Jones can get beat deep due to the lack of elite speed.
The Bottom Line: Jones is just another example of why 2010 is so deep at almost every position. He has a good set of skills and is a hard hitting Rex Ryan guy however he will have some work to do especially with securing the ball in his hands and maintain proper coverage.

This is our guy ! The kid is a beast ! I will be super upset if you don’t draft this guy with our 2nd pick.
Nickname – R. Jones Mountain ! Gotta have mountains on the island !

After seeing all the mocks, it looks like the Pats may be able to select Brandon Graham at 22. At 21, the Bengals are slated to take a WR or S. But, it looks like that whatever WR (Kiper says Benn) or S (McShay says Mays) that is available at 21 would also be available at 29…trade? The Jets and Bengals swap picks and Cincy gets the Jets 2nd rounder and the Jets trump the Pats and get Graham. I guess I can dream….

and with the 2010 2nd round pick the NY JETS select….Reshad Jones of Georgia

I actually think this guy slides down to the 3rd rd … and I still see Tanny trading down and getting him

Been talking about this guy for about a week now, this guy is a stud in the making, great stats, plenty of experience. Most prospect rankings have him going late 2nd round to early 4th round. Overall he is ranked around 6-8th best safety in the draft so he should be there at #58 in the 2nd round! These videos of him show he can do everything. It great to see him undercut plenty of passes for Int. He had three great tackles/hits in these videos- laying out that one guy over the middle, finishing off a Gator RB that was being wrapped up, and decleating that LSU RB!

I see why people were wanting him over Chad Jones. They both seem like very similar players to me.

WOW!…this guy is a beast, a hawk…whatever u want to call him. he looks real good on film. This draft is really deep at FS/S/CB
Im with Elroy Jetson on this 1

From Mockingthedraft- Dan:
Reshad Jones
6’2, 215 pounds | Strong safety | GeorgiaAgility/Hips: Can turn and run well. Short steps allow him to turn north south with balance and quickness. Does not change direction well when moving laterally. Struggles cut with a receiver in man coverage.
Ball Skills: Drops a lot of easy interceptions. Has developed nice timing in jumping throws and can break up a lot of passes, but does not end up with sure-thing interceptions. Lets the ball get in to his body, does not follow the ball in to his hands.
Body Control: Maintains balance downfield in coverage. Will lose his feet when trying to stick with a receiver underneath. Does a nice job of leaping for jump balls, gathers his weight and gets the most out of his jump.
Instincts/Recognition: Plays the run better than most linebackers in terms of diagnosing running lanes and attack the line of scrimmage. Reads his keys effectively and is rarely caught out of position. Does not do well in single high coverage, late to read the quarterback’s intended receiver.
Pass Coverage: Has plenty of experience in man coverage. High in his back pedal and does not explode in breaks against crossing routes. Does not have the range to play a single high Cover 1 role, but can be trusted as a Cover 2 safety. Anticipates routes and lanes well.
Pursuit: Outstanding pursuit. Consistently takes the proper angles to meet the ball carrier at the point where he can deliver a blow. Is rarely caught out of position against the run. Uses his length to ensure ball carries will not get by him when pursuing laterally.
Run Support: The best part of Jones’ game. He is comfortable as the eighth man in the box and has enough size and strength to handle the physical part of the game in traffic. Plays downhill with aggression. Sure tackler that can take down a ball carrier by himself.
Speed: Does not have elite speed downfield, can be beat deep. Has the long strides to aid him with recovery, but his lack of top end speed can be exploited against the faster receivers.
Tackling: Sure tackler that can be depended upon as the last line of defense with confidence. Shows proper technique and makes the effort to wrap up and drive the ball carrier through the ground. Has had more than his fair share of bone-jarring hits. Will make receivers think twice about going over the middle. Really lays the wood and consistently knocks the ball carrier backward.
Final Word: Jones is a safety that is NFL ready from the physical point of view. He plays with the kind of downhill aggression that every team wants in an enforcer over the middle. He is a guy that always find himself in or near the action, getting in on a lot of turnovers and big plays. He is not the kind of safety that can be trusted with a lot of coverage responsibility but his length and instincts will be enough to get him in the every down defense early in his career. If he can be put in to a system that allows him to play downhill and in man coverage against tight ends, Jones will thrive. He is of the 2nd round type that teams will look to as the kind of high reward pick in terms of immediate payback.

He sounds like Eric Smith to me. Good against the run but can’t cover deep, no range.
-
According to nfl.com there seems to be some issues off the field……….can anyone confirm this?
-
This kid looks like a great safety. Definitely worth a 2nd round pick.
-
don’t get me wrong the guy looks awesome, but CAJETSFAN88 has a point he sounds like smith. how does his speed stack up to say mays, berry?
-
I know this guy personally. He played for my rival hs, and I played wr so I played against him a lot. He’s a good competitor, and brings a lot of energy and passion to the game. Hopefully he can polish his skills enough to be a good coverage guy as well along with his run stopping ability.

I like this guy alot, I get the same feeling from him I got from watching pre-draft footage of Shonn Greene last year. If hes there late second round, hes too good to pass up.
