Buzz: LaDainian Visiting the Jets Tomorrow?

by Bassett on March 11th, 2010 at 11:55 am

Warm up the sideline exercise bike, ESPN is reporting that should LaDainian leave Minnesota, his next stop will be Florham Park.

Tomlinson’s travels are not scheduled to end in Minnesota. Following Thursday’s trip in Minnesota, Tomlinson is now scheduled to visit the New York Jets on Friday, a source close to the situation told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Whether Tomlinson actually arrives in New York is another issue. The Vikings will be talking contract with Tomlinson on Thursday and if the sides can get a deal done, then Tomlinson will not need the trip to New York. Should talks between the Vikings and Tomlinson lag, then he will travel to New York on Friday.

Schefter talks on ESPN about LT2 …

I’m interested.  Tomlinson’s skills have clearly diminished, but with a solid line and his flexibility to both run and pass catch, he’d be an asset to the team.  Keep in mind that Schottenheimer would be familiar with LaDainian as they two worked together (granted not that closely) when they were in San Diego together.

Hat tip to Ryan O. for the heads up.

At the right price this could be cool. He catches well out of the backfield and he would be a good mentor fro Green. Just can’t see it happening because of the $$$. Think above analysis is right on. No way we pay more than we would have given TJ, so that probably takes the Jets out of the equation.

  2. avatar deuce4417 says:

    too much ego

  3. avatar jess the jet says:

i feel tj was over rated like his states all year last year i think lt is faster and any one would thrive in our system with t rish and that o loine blocking for u

  4. avatar ridinmywave says:

i really hope he comes, he’s a better option than fargas and is a more versatile threat out of the backfield than thomas was considering his hands. we can actually look like geniuses if this gets done, we’d be upgrading for little to nothing by letting thomas walk

  5. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

LT isnt LT anymore but he is a TRUE WARRIOR

He would be an awesome mentor, and he could help this team in a pinch because of all the different things he can do.

Even something as small as picking up blitzes as a RB, LT could help this team

Not to mention that I love the guy, he was my fantasy keeper when he had those ridiculous years. LT paid for many a steak dinners and allowed me to verbally abuse my buddies in my fantasy league…LOL

  6. avatar ridinmywave says:

deuce, his ego years are behind him, players at this stage just wanna win

  7. avatar Scouse Jet says:

That what be a nice trade off for TJ.

By all accounts in SD LeDalian is a top bloke which is important, could be a very good mentor for Greene

  8. avatar Brendan says:

    ridinmywave,

I disagree. Just last year he was pouting on the bench as Sproles was taking all the snaps. He’s a moody diva who thinks he’s should be the focal point, even at this stage of his career. If he admitted he’s ok with being a depth guy than that’s different. But his body language on the sidelines in the past few playoffs speaks volumes.

  9. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

    Agreed Wave…

LT can play in ANY formation, any down and distance and you have to at least ACKNOWLEDGE him if you are an opposing offensive coordinator

  10. avatar JetsFanInSouthFlorida says:

The really cool thing about this is that there are guys like LT who are looking at coming to the Jets these days. I remember in years past where the Jets couldn’t even get these guys to come knocking on the door.

Another sign that Rex has changed the Jets outlook….

  11. avatar Dylan says:

We aren’t talking about LT coming in and starting. We are talking about him being out THIRD sting RB. Here are 5 reason why he would be a nice fit.

    1) He would bring the same kind of veteran leadership that we lots when TJ left.

    2) He is great at catching the ball out of the backfield. Before last season, he 8 straight seasons with over 350 receiving yards.

    3) He knows how to get the ball into the endzone. He had 12 rushing TDs last season.

    4) I think SDs terrible O-line played a big part in his downfall. Sproles and LT both couldn’t run the ball at all last season. I don’t think its a coincidence.

    5) LT is never hurt. In 9 seasons he has missed 3 games.

  12. avatar ridinmywave says:

christmas would come early if we got LT, drafted reshad jones in the 2nd round, and got graham in the first…………..and would sharper for a year or two hurt?……i think not

  13. avatar EastSide says:

Giving a guy like LT more than we would have given TJ sends a bad message to a locker room already trying to deal with the departure of a leader. Don’t think he has anything left anyway. Think Shaun Alexander circa 2007.

Also, anyone hear that Rex Ryan and Tannenbaum were in attendance for Alabama’s Pro Day? McClain revealed he has Crohn’s disease which may cause him to drop significantly on draft boards. Cody weighed in at a “slim” 348 although his agent is the much hated Keels.

  14. avatar HOZ THE JET says:

he’s a great catcher out of the backfield that what i love the most from him in this part of his career.

  15. avatar Dylan says:

    EastSide,

Why would we draft a MLB? We have Harris and Scott.

  16. avatar BamBam says:

LT wants to repair his reputation and Rex & Co. can keep him in line and focused on a 3rd down role … if the O-Line really is 7/10′s of the equation then it adds up to a great move

  17. avatar originalJetFan says:

Right price I’,m in on this, with the Jets O line and reduced carries he can fill the role TJ would have had for short yardage and goaline rushes. This would be great

  18. avatar ridinmywave says:

brendan, i think not……………he wouldn’t visit a place like minnesota to take over taylor’s duties if that was the case……..AP lives there

  19. avatar Brendan says:

I am aware. But he’s still been sulking on the sidelines the past few years. He is obviously going to play nice and say the right things to get paid, but what happens when whoever his new team is gives the ball to him 3 times a game and he’s fuming on the sidelines? He’s not exactly been the best & most outgoing teammate in the past.

  20. avatar HOZ THE JET says:

greene washington and tomlison = the #1 rush attack again this season.

  21. avatar Scouse Jet says:

I think he gets more touches here with a back from serious injury Leon or a 2nd year Shonn than in Minni behind AP

  22. avatar deuce4417 says:

    wave

i sure hope its behind him. i do think he would fit good thats for sure just a few issues for me

    ego(already stated that)
    injuries
    salary

to name a few….. kind of interested in fargas but he has the same injury issues

  23. avatar levi says:

I hope he signs with the Vikes. I would rather have a young powerback LT is done in my opinion.

  24. avatar jess the jet says:

LT HAS GOOD HANDS AND STILL PRETTY GOOD SPEED U COULD ALSO USE HIM AS SLOT RECIEVER ON SOME PLAYS

  25. avatar Dylan says:

    deuce4417,

LT has missed 3 games in 9 seasons.

Fargas has missed 22 games in 7 seasons.

  26. avatar Ben Nevis says:

Sorry, but I think LT is done. Hope he lands with the Vikings, just so that he doesn’t wind up in green and white.

Last year, LT’s YPC was 3.3.

  27. avatar deuce4417 says:

    QUESTION TO ALL

toby gearhart? i like a big power back to wear out the d for shone. don’t forget thats how we had alot of success, wear em out then with one then bring in the closer. with defences getting small and faster( thats a known fact by the way) not many can hold up for the whole game

accept our of coarse ha ha ha

  28. avatar jess the jet says:

    SD O LINE ALSO SUCKED

  29. avatar Reprocity says:

This would make Leon the 3rd down back… Not the 3rd RB but the 3rd down back, which use to be kind of the same. That’s def not the case anymore. I would like to see green open the game and Leon with him build a lead and let LT finish out the games due to his ball security and keeping Green healthy.

  30. avatar jess the jet says:

    THUS YPC WAS AFFECTED

  31. avatar Steve in Philly says:

We’d have to sign him to some kind of touches contract. I’m willing to bet he still wants a lot of money.

I’m surprised that we’d take LT over Thomas Jones considering we’ll probably have to pay LT almost the same money. I think he’s going to sign with Minnesota anyhow.

  32. avatar deuce4417 says:

good point dylan didn’t know that not seen a whole lot of fargas. guess its for that reason

  33. avatar jess the jet says:

WE WILL ALL JUST HAVE TO WAIT N SEE HOW THIS WHOLE THING IS GOIN TO PLAY OUT

  34. avatar RJF says:

I’m good w/ it, just no more dancing videos. Would be a good p/u. Just leave the dancing to OchoCinco, who is my pick for Dancing w/ the stars

  35. avatar jess the jet says:

THE JETS SHOULD ASK CURTIS MARTIN TO COME BACK FOR A YEAR LOL

  36. avatar bilal says:

How is LT a true warrior? Do people forget how he refuses to play injured in the playoffs and sits there with his helmet on? Has he ever performed well in the playoffs even when was still good? Did you see how horrible he was hitting the hole against the jets?

I would much rather have Fargas. I wont have to hear fargas in the media everyday complaining about something. I want another BIG downhill runner on this team not an old hasbeen. if thats what we wanted we would have kept TJ.

  37. avatar Ben Nevis says:

    Steve in Philly-

Yes, TJ would have been a much better choice than LT.

Last year, TJ had almost twice as many rushing yards at LT (1,402 to 730), and TJ’s YPC was 4.2, LT was 3.3.

TJ is gone for 2010, and I hope LT isn’t a Jet this year, either.

  38. avatar jess the jet says:

    HOW OLD IS FARGAS?????

  39. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

As long as LT comes in here with the mindset that he is the 3RD STRING RB, he’d be a great pickup…

Just food for thought, but San Diego’s offensive line isn’t the same one LT ran behind when he KILLED it…

On the flip side, if LT has ANY illusions that he will be anything more than a situational player for the Jets, forget it

  40. avatar Dylan says:

    bilal,

Fargas has made it through ONE whole season during his 7 year career. He is less durable then Chad Pennington.

  41. avatar dmazz says:

Interested if price is right. We’ve lacked the premiere pass catching RB

  42. avatar Marvel says:

Whats the deal with Mike Bell … Are we off that train already … If so I want a refund .. Paid 45 dollars for my ticket ..

  43. avatar Bkkilla says:

i like gerhart, i was shocked to find out he’s white!!

  44. avatar EastSide says:

He had a bad o-line but I don’t see that as a good thing. That just means he took more damage to his 30 year old body.

Dylan, Actually wondering if McClain could be converted to OLB seeing as he is bigger and faster than most OLB prospects (e.g. Sergio Kindle, Sean Witherspoon, Eric Norwood) this year.

  45. avatar Andy says:

I say bring him in. We need a replacement for the loss of Jones. He could be a good mentor for Green. LT won’t be the primary back, but I see LT gets a good percentage of carries. Probably use the same direction if TJ was still here. Green getting the majority but LT would get enough. Just think of having to RB with the ability to catch the ball out of the backfield in Washington and LT. Would be kind of nice.

  46. avatar John Z says:

Take a pass, it’s a RB heavy draft. The Shanahan Broncos showed time and again that as long as your line is good, any RB will do well.

  47. avatar Reprocity says:

Thomas Jones makes it to the line and falls forward for a couple of yards… the fact he did it consistantly and he gets over 300 carries a year is the only reason he has the yards. TJ is slow and doesn’t have any burst, never did. I respected him but LT is a better RB now and always has been.

  48. avatar deuce4417 says:

any clue what round gerhart is projected? i know there ar many backs valued ahead of him

  49. avatar Reprocity says:

John Z, good point. we’ve had some good luck in the 4th :)

  50. avatar AKA....Drew says:

I am just not sold on LT to be an effective RB or to mentor our young RB’s… I mean this guy was not the best “teamate” when he was injured or sulking on the sidelines when Sproles was winning a playoff game 2 years ago.

TJ had less carries and milage than LT does and I wanted TJ replaced…..just not by a guy who is older and probably less effective.

If I was LT ……I would come to the jets based on our OL and offense compared to him being a cheerleader to Favre and AP in Minn…. I just hoped he likes being a cheerleader compared to getting booed for not being productive anymore here

  51. avatar ridinmywave says:

so some of u would rather the vikes get LT while we entertain the likes of fargas???………pure genius

  52. avatar Dylan says:

I think LT would rather play for the Jets than the Vikings for a lot of reasons.

    1) He would get more touches with the Jets. Leon is coming off a serious injury and Greene has only played half a season in the NFL. The Jets also led the league in rushing attempts.

    2) LT has more familiarity with the Jets than he does with the Vikings. He knows Cromartie since they were teamates for 4 years. Schotty also coached him in San Diego.

    3) He could play behind the best offensive line in the NFL.

    4) The Jets are ready to win now. I think he would have the best chance to win a Super Bowl in NY.

    5) The Jets know who will be starting at QB. There is no guarantee that Favre will be playing for the Vikings next year. If he chooses to retire, who is going to be their QB?

  53. avatar jvsvn says:

I think the most interesting question is how this would effect the status of Leon. If they sign LT, do they let Leon walk. Remember Leon has a 2nd round tender. If he signs with another club all of a sudden we’d have a backfield of Greene and LT (not too shabby) and a draft situation with a 1st, 2 2nds, and 2 4ths. That opens up a world of possibilities.

  54. avatar reality jet fan says:

I guess if tannenbaum went and got jerry rice out of retirement it would be a great move. Great warrior and mentor we already had that with no ego and less miles. And we need a between the tackles rb.

  55. avatar bilal says:

Dylan – yea this is true but how many carries are you expecting him to get a game with the Jets? 5-7? My point was less to do with Fargas and more to do with not having LT on this team. LT does not fit the mold of a tough minded team- hes simply not a tough player. Id rather have a bigger, younger 5th round draft pick to be the 3rd guy than him. I dont see what kind of mentor he would be to Shonn Greene when he couldnt handle sproles getting more carries than him.

Out of curiousity- where are you getting the stats for the amount of games fargas was injured? They were more than a few games the last two years where he didnt play simply because the raiders were using Bush and DMC. The first two games of last year I dont remember him being injured- just not playing.

  56. avatar AKA....Drew says:

If LT comes here we can have him study the S Greene TD run in the playoffs where he does the LT endzone teacup celebration…. Maybe that will motivate him.

  57. avatar Ridinmywave says:

And I think this is perfect insurance if Leon doesn’t return to his normal self……no other back is giving us that luxury, period

  58. avatar AKA....Drew says:

    ridinmywave

For the record I dont want Fargas either.

  59. avatar AKA....Drew says:

I heard Marshall Faulk make a great point last night about this subject…When he started to give carries to S Jackson… the following year he knew he would be a 3rd down/limited carry back….. Even though he was prepared for it …..he never got used to it and wasnt very effective.

can anyone see this could be the case for LT? The guy has been the go to guy for years and with age and less work he is so much less effective. There are just some guys that cant adjust to not be “the guy”

Again I dont think him coming here is bad for him or even that bad of a choice for us… I just think it might be over for LT.

  60. avatar Greengoblin says:

    Sign him!!!

  61. avatar Dylan says:

    bilal,

I’m not sure if he missed all of the games due to injury. But I do think the fact that he failed his physical with the Raiders this year says something about his health.

And the amount of carries he would get depends on Leon’s health and Greene’s productivity. Even if he did average about 6 or 7 carries per game, that is probably more than he would get with the Vikes. Chester Taylor only had 94 carries (under 6 per game) last year, and at this point in his career he is better than LT.

  62. avatar SackDance99 says:

I think LT’s tank is empty. I’d be more interested in Westbrook or Larry Johnson. Westbrook’s only issue is injuries and as a back up, he’d be less likely to get worn down and he’s a great pass-catcher. Larry Johnson showed with the Bengals that he can be still be an effective “between the tackles” RB and he has more left in the tank than most of the available RBs. He’s a brooding jackass, but he’s a solid RB with breakaway ability.

  63. avatar bilal says:

I meant fargas would only get 5-7 carries a game so his health concerns would be less of a worry. When did he fail this physical? I didnt know about that.

  64. avatar NJets says:

LT is running on reserves at this point. He has as much in the tank as TJ probably has except he gets hurt more. The more I see rookie RBs have success in this league, the more I think we should be drafting Shonn Greene 2.0 in the draft this year. Most backs will have success in our offense and with our line. Why not make our third back another young player? We need veteran presence at backup QB and at Saftey (get Sharper!), not at RB. T-RIch already fills that role.

  65. avatar Ridinmywave says:

I’m thinking Greene, LT, and Washington > Jacobs, ward, Bradshaw

  66. avatar Ridinmywave says:

And we are running no risk in signing LT, and people fail to realize how terrible San diego’s line was and how good ours is. Tj left probably 100 yards on the field last year falling down and diving so he wouldn’t have to endure the extra abuse, LT is stil one of the way to door for a reason and it’s insane to think he wouldn’t thrive here. Do you guys really think tj is gonna make noise in KC? Real running backs get injured al the time, because they embrace the risk, that’s what makes LT a warrior IMO

  67. avatar jkjet64 says:

If we are not planning on getting rid of Leon, I’d rather we go draft. There are some good backs to be had.

  68. good safety valve for Sanchez—excellent tutor for Green and ?Washington

    yes, at the right price

  69. avatar dakar says:

LT has been sulking since marty was fired…i really think he should have been tradedoff SD since then and started freash somewhereelse…i think he never liked playing for nerv turner…ofcourse this is all speculation…but his drop off in his game does coincide with marty’s Departure from SD…so wether he comes here or stays in minn. he will do well…just my thoughts…

  70. avatar SackDance99 says:

Well, if we’re talking bad OLs, Willie Parker has had to deal with a terrible Steelers OL since Faneca left and Westbrook toiled behind an Eagles’ OL that was geared for the pass, not the run. Westbrook, especially, would have more running room than he’s ever had as a pro and he’s still a legit homerun threat once he gets to the outside. All the available guys have warts, but I still think the guys with the most upside are Westbrook and Larry Johnson because they can still break off long runs when they get to the outside. I’m not sure LT could still do that.

  71. avatar JJets says:

But what of L.T.’s visit to New York? Per a league source, the Jets had a chance to match the two-year, $5 million contract that the Chiefs paid to running back Thomas Jones, but opted not to do so. If the Jets weren’t willing to pay that much money to Jones after he had a career-high rushing total of 1,402 yards in 2009, why would they give that much or more to Tomlinson?

  72. avatar JJets says:

    per profootball talk

  73. Pass on LT. Why would we let TJ walk and sign LT? Makes no sense to me. I didn’t agree with letting TJ go (though if he wouldn’t re-negotiate, shame on him), but now that that has happened, we should go younger at RB.

  74. avatar jcjets says:

please no..he is a sour puss on the sideline when he’s not getting his way..

  75. avatar brian311 says:

the best mentor for Greene was TJ. what will LT teach Greene – how to sulk on the sideline?

  76. avatar david i says:

How much older can the Vikings afford to get?

  77. avatar dakar says:

    the nyc

i agree…we should go younger…but it seems like every1 is high on getting another vet. RB…funny cuz i VIEW leon as are vet. RB…as for jones…maybe something was said between him and the jets that no1 knows about…he’s a finished story lets move on…to either LT or as SACK said…W.PARKER or L.JOHNSON…i wouldn’t mind having any1 of these guys…but i would rather go younger…if that makes any sense…just mu thoughts…

  78. avatar jvsvn says:

Personally, I’d pass on LT but I can see why there might be some interest. With his pass catching ability, Shotty would be going nutty. I actually see that as part of the problem with LT. We were much better last year after Shotty gave up on the triple reverses and all of the gimmick nonsense. In fact, I wouldn’t be all that sad if Leon walked and we used the extra picks on a second power back and a true slot receiver. I think that would make our offense very tough to deal with (although somewhat more conventional). But I have to admit, assuming LT came both physically and mentally ready to play (and that is a VERY big if) it would open up some intriguing possibilities.

  79. avatar AKA....Drew says:

I would much rather have W Parker (who is still hungry) and used to be a split carry back than LT at this point. I just dont see the “mentor” role everyone thinks LT would play. He had Sproles and I never heard Sproles say anything about LT’s help. I did see LT throwing a fit eveytime he was out of the game near the goalline and Sproles was put in.

If I thought LT had somehting left I would be more into this potential move but ….I just dont think he has much left.

  80. avatar rusty sanchez says:

the only thingthat bothers me about greene is if he can stay healthy a full season…im pretty sure his fumblitis is cured but he runs so reckless that injuries can be the one thing from stopping greene from being great

  81. avatar Killa says:

Y does every1 sat greene has an injury prob?…he got knicked up once as i recall and he was ready to come back in that colts game but it was a coaching decision to keep him out if im correct.

any way….some1 plz tell me how LT has “lost it”…if u put that guy behing a good/great offensive line, which we have, that guy will shine!

  82. avatar Killa says:

    *behind…oops

  83. avatar BigKatt says:

I think LT would be could in our O, but i agree with Drew in that Willie is a far better option for us. I think he compliments Greene better then LT.

That being said, i think Larry Johnson is the best option when it comes to FA RBs. he could put up a huge year behind our line, and he fits the Ground and pound style perfectly.

I still think we should look at what backs are available at #61, or higher if we lose Leon. Actually if we lose Leon we would need to find a back in round 2, which in this draft would be no problem at all.

  84. avatar Big W says:

LT is done. They should just draft another rb.

  85. avatar levi says:

Was it Douglas who stood over LT in the playoffs and said: ” you dont have anything left we took your heart”?
That is pretty much how I feel about LT.

If Larry Johnson has anything left we should give him a look. He took alot of abuse in KC though.

Other than that just draft a big bruiser in the later rounds. Someone to run between the tackles and for short yardage.

  86. willie parker? wanna trade one RB with a broken leg for another?—granted that Parker’s was only a fibula

  87. avatar brightfuture says:

Has anyone actually realized TJ WANTED OUT!!!!!!!!!

  88. avatar AKA....Drew says:

    levi

    yes it was…and i agree!

  89. avatar jcjets says:

Yeah I don’t think Greene needs a mentor..we need someone to take some carries! Especially early in the season if Leon isn’t 100%. I guess there’s always Danny Woodhead..

What about using Brad Smith? he’s running the ball out of the wildcat, anyway..

  90. avatar AKA....Drew says:

Oh…I was hoping there wasnt going to be a Danny Woodhead mention today….. we had a good run though……

    thanks jcjets….lol

  91. avatar JesusRevis says:

I’m not against signing LT, but I do think we might be better off going with a rookie.

  92. avatar Ben Nevis says:

Here are the 2009 stats of some of the vet RBs out there now:

    _________________________________________

    LaDainian Tomlinson :

    _________________________________________

    Of the above group:

LT had the worst YPC: 3.3.

Westbrook had the best YPC: 4.5

LT had the most TDs by far: 12

Westbrook had the second highest # of TDs: 2

LT lost the most fumbles: 2 (but he had the most carries)

Johnson & Westbrook lost the least fumbles: 0

LT and Johnson each had over 175 carries

Parker & Westbrook each had less than 100 carries

    _________________

    LT’s low YPC worries me.

Westbrook’s history of injuries worries me.

Johnson’s history of being an a-hole worries me.

All of which is to say, none of these options blows me away.

  93. avatar Dylan says:

I don’t understand why everyone is making this whole RB issue into such a big deal. Its a 3rd string RB! We don’t need a Pro Bowler. All we need is someone who can step in incase of an injury. Last season we only used 2 RBs. We used Jones and Leon and then when Leon went down we used Jones and Greene. Even when all of our backs were healthy, we never had a 3-headed rushing attack. We never used more than 2 backs, except for maybe 1 or 2 carries in a blowout. It doesn’t really matter who we get. It is no more of a concern than our depth at CB or ILB.

  94. avatar Craig says:

I can not understand why you would dump TJ (who actually has some tread on the tires left) and sign LT (who is clearly done). Stats dont lie. This makes zero sense and I hope it is not true. What role will he have on third down? Isn’t third down Leon’s role….

  95. avatar Mike says:

The Jets don’t need to draft a RB. One reason is because we can use those picks to solve bigger needs like depth along both lines and the secondary. Also, the NFL is a 2 running back league nowadays, not 3. The problem is that we’re not sure if Leon’s leg is okay or if Greene can take a full season as the starter. The Solution = get a veteran running back who can help mentor the young guys and take some carries away from Greene so that he isn’t thrown into the starting role too quickly. If Leon’s leg proves to be good and Greene can handle the workload then we have our young running back tandem for the next 5-7 years and we haven’t wasted a draft pick on another RB. If this season shows that Greene/Washington isn’t going to work in the future then you draft a RB next year.

Bottom line: sign a veteran whether it’s LT, Fargas, Parker, Westbrook, whoever -the guy just needs to be a situational player. And use the draft picks on guys who play these positions – DL, OL, OLB, WR, S

  96. avatar Harvlis says:

We paid Ben Hartsock $3.2M for two years but, could have had TJ for $5M. That gets me sick. TJ’s stats were getting better by the year. All of these other running backs, that you guys have been talking about, are going backwards. They gave up on TJ, because he was getting older and they felt he wasn’t worth the money. Now, they are thinking of picking up a declining RB to fill TJ’s cleats — that is moronic.

There are lots of exciting, YOUNG, RB’s coming out, in this year’s draft. I want some young blood. I want to see Ben Tate, LaGarette Blount, Montario Hardesty, Joe McKnight, Anthony Dixon, or James Starks. I don’t want to see some washed up vet who won’t be happy backing up Shonn Greene. They need to lock up Leon and shoot for a potential star in the draft. A washed up veteran will always be available.

  97. avatar Jetfan in Miami says:

Someone please schedule a Kevan Barlow visit…. im waiting!!

  98. avatar BKWRXWgn says:

I was not content with the TJ cut, but bottom line is to acquire a rookie RB can be a risk to the run first Jets offense. It’s going to be a gamble if they are to acquire a vet RB as well but at least the vet will be more capable in the adjustments vs. a rookie who may become explosive or may not in the first year. I wouldn’t mind catering to the idea of LT or the other vet’s out in the market only because cutting TJ has come and gone, so we need to look forward to see what’s the next best thing.

  99. avatar Jets 17 says:

Sorry not interested… Shuda kept tj if were Gunnar do this…wud rather jahavid best or blout… I thought the jets ended Lts career

  100. avatar Nick says:

Westbrook is the answer. When he is healthy he produces unlike the rest of these guy’s. We wont need to run him into the ground like they do in Philly so injury shouldn’t be a big problem.

  101. avatar James says:

LT has left Minnesota and is on his way to NY, per ESPN.

  102. avatar Craig says:

Jets just resigned Roger Vick…..problem solved

  103. avatar JetSetRadio says:

Its not about how he performs in the playoffs its about making sure shonn can get to the playoffs rested and fully healthy im down if the jets are

  104. avatar dakar says:

    theres kevin jones…he’s available…maybe a bit injury prone…what say you…

  105. avatar Marvel says:

    Harvlis

Shhhhhhhhhhhh …. I want Blount in like the 5th or 6 th round … If you mention him again You might get a Buzz started .. Could you imagine the guy running the rock with Rex coaching him up as if he was already a pro bowler.. Scary ..

Your comment got ne fired up . I wouldn’t have minded getting LT but now I hate him lol ..

  106. avatar AKA....Drew says:

Blount ran a 4.7 40….There will be no buzz. He will be there in the 5th round and we should take him. totally agree Marvel

  107. avatar Marvel says:

    Nick

I almost hated TJ because the fans gave him tooo much credit for mediocre production in my eyes .. With that being said I’d take TJ back for 5.8mill before I’d give MR.Concussion 2mill.. We’d have to start using C.Washington by week 3 ..

  108. avatar GANGGREEN says:

This is one free agent worthy of paying the price for…2 year deal to mentor greene, add to the rotation not knowing how Washington has recovered, has great hands, good character, and years of experience…LT should not walk out of New Jersey without being signed a deal…This one Mr T. is a must get and solidifies our backfield…Get it done today cause he wont be availible much longer…

  109. avatar Craig says:

espn reporting….jets resigned Dexter Carter…problem solved.

  110. avatar SackDance99 says:

The Jets need to replace T-Rich at FB either this year or next. So, how about drafting an FB/RB combo like LeRon McLain? Gerhart, Dixon, Blount, Charles Scott, and Keiland Williams all have the size to be a potential FB and they all know how to tote the rock. But, a veteran insurance policy isn’t a bad idea and I think Westbrook, Parker and Johnson have the most left in their tanks…injury issues have hampered these guys, but for up to 100 carries, they should be okay. Also, I’m not averse to guys like Michael Bennett, Fargas or Bell and, eventually, the Bucs have to do something with their crowded backfield and I like all 3 of their guys: Cadillac, Ward and Graham. The Jets don’t need to get LT and the guy has very little left in his tank; he just doesn’t have that extra gear that made him great anymore. He looks like LT with a refridgerator on his back.

  111. avatar Nafstejyn says:

Rock Cartwright anyone? Lord knows he’s got fresh legs! :)

  112. avatar Randy says:

Well hartsock could be replacing the FB spot this year.I wouldnt be surprised if we line up in double Tight End formations in order to utilize Hartsock for his blocking. This would also allow us to have more potential receiever to throw to with 3 WideOuts and 2 Tight ends

  113. avatar GANGGREEN says:

Yo Emitt Smith gave the Cards a few good years after his stint in Dallas…LT has life left in those legs and is still a legitimate threat to take it the distance. Not an every down back but were not asking him for 100 plus yards a game..Just convert 3rd downs and find the endzone…

  114. avatar BubbyBrister/shovelpass says:

I don’t think LT2 has anything leftin the tank…very reminiscent of Shaun Alexander to me. I will go on record, however, as saying I like Mike Bell for this team.

  115. avatar Bent says:

Sack – I love the idea, but rather than converting a big tailback to FB, I think they’re better off by getting a proper blocking FB and using them to carry the ball. That’s what McClain was – he hardly ever carried the ball in college.

Most of the guys on that list, while they could develop as a blocker, are better ball carriers. For example, I consider Keiland Williams more of a speed back than a power runner. We tried this already with Caulcrick (who I think is bigger than all those guys) and it took too long.

Draft a top FB in the 6th round (or thereabouts) and then use them as a ball carrier in preseason. Worst case scenario, they should end up with a good young blocker.

Just confirmed with USC official that safety Taylor Mays’ Twitter account is a fake. @RealTaylorMays is not legit. #jets #nfl

    I predicted this days ago!!!

  117. KC Joyner has a nice little tidbit on LT’s value as a short yardage specialist….

    http://espn.go.com/blog/afceast/post/_/id/11475/is-tomlinson-worth-it-for-the-jets-y-e-s

Also…..Adam Schefter is reporting LT is leaving Minny without a deal, and will meet with us tomorrow.

  118. avatar andrew says:

Its obvious that lt is not that good any more however he could average what TJ did per carry with this o-line.Agree
    ?

  119. avatar Tos9987 says:

ESPN says LT is visiting NY for the second time . Sweet hope he is in green and white tommarow

  120. avatar sackexchange says:

LT will fit awesome into our zone blocking.. way better than TJ…..he can block and catch … major upgrade…

  121. avatar johnl says:

    GOTTA TA BE LT bAby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  122. avatar Reprocity says:

TJ is and has been a mediocore RB since he got here… He played with a lot of heart and I love him for that but he was never an elite RB. He led the AFC in rushing one year but had less than 1400 yards. TL was an elite RB and still might have some left in the tank. For a 3rd back I’d rather have some one who’ll flas greatness than someone who just gets past the line and falls down. I will miss TJ but he was done, any one watch the championship game?

  123. avatar Harvlis says:

    Marvel,

Believe it or not, I have been trying to keep quiet about Blount, because I would love to steal him late. I think he is a beast. Him and Greene would be hurting DB’s. Say no more.

  124. avatar simplysimon2 says:

It would be an interesting story if he signs with Jets and has a rebirth. Or he signs with Jets but sucks but a good thing Chauncey Washington worked out well and the low draft pick RB with high output gives us a problem of who do we give the rock.

This is truly fantasy football: only the Shadow knows the outcome of the ifs, ands, and buts, “All things prepare the event: Watch!” We’re all just watching and stroking our crystal balls.

  125. avatar TJBfan (twitter @infresco4) says:

From reports I’ve read(mortreport), LT will visit the jets tomorrow but has 2 more visits lined up after with other teams.

Also heard that his meeting with the Vikings might have went well and he is doing due diligence.

I for one hope he does sign, as I think he could do very well behind our O-Line with a smaller role. You put in Greene Washington, LT with Brad Smith wildcats….damn that’s a dangerous combo.

  126. avatar Slim says:

Schefter says jets signed Brodney Pool to one year deal

  127. avatar Harvlis says:

One year, $1.3Mil. They say Pool was given a clean bill of health. He has played well during his career but, concussions are a big problem. If his problems don’t haunt him — this could be a nice pick up.

  128. avatar SackDance99 says:

    Bent,

I don’t disagree, but my list is really window-dressing. I think Gerhart could easily be converted to FB…he’s my favorite. Of the guys I listed, Scott is a real good sleeper. I love his body lean…he seems to run with his shoulders leading more than straight up and he hits his holes very quickly. He’s probably not a great FB candidate, though. I also like Dwyer a lot, he looks much faster on film. And, Ben Tate looks pretty good, too. I don’t like the running styles of Hardesty, Blount and Dixon because they’re a little too straight up, but each is a load, especially Dixon, who should also project as an FB.

  129. avatar mike says:

I think 7:19:59 AM would be great in our offense. He catches the ball out of the backfield better then tj. I love greene but don’t forget he was fumbling the ball a lot in the season. I do believe he gt inj atleast 2 or 3 times last year. Greene had an amazing playoffs but I need to see more then 3 games.
