LaDainian Has Entered The Building

by Bassett on March 12th, 2010 at 1:09 pm

The New York Daily News Jets beat writer Rich Cimini reported at noon today that LaDainian Tomlinson was at Florham Park, but that he wasn’t going to be made available to the media.

I don’t blame Jets Head of PR Bruce Speight for an instant. One session with the tabs before he’s signed anything and just like Shonn Greene in San Diego, he’d never look back.

Come to think of it LaDanian has a very good chance to start here than in Minn……. I shouldn’t have to say this. Must be in the back of his mind.

  2. avatar Jetfan in Miami says:

Rueben Droughns was also in the building, but Security escorted him out

    Basset -

I don’t mean to interupt this post with something off topic but What’s the story on adalius thomas??? I thought he was getting cut soon

  4. avatar Le' Sean Roberts says:

Jetfan in Miami, are you serious?

  5. avatar Bkwrxwgn says:

Belicheat is probably strategically holding onto AT so that he can’t join the Jets and get accalated with D that is if he is a person of interest to Mike T and Rex.

Just heard on 1050 that the Jets are still interested in Sharper even after signing Pool! Mike T and Co. Definitely keeping us tentative to the Jets even during the off season.

  6. avatar Jetfan in Miami says:

lmao no i wasnt serious lol…i love Kevan Barlow and obscure player references

  7. avatar Le' Sean Roberts says:

Coach Bill doesn’t have much leverage. Other than Adalius the only other “possible” pass rushing threat is Tully…They acquired Derrick last year, the only reason I could think of getting him was to transition him to 3-4 OLB. Now he’s a UFA.

  8. avatar CVega says:

@Bk….after the trade for Crimetime…it took a little bit to get the wheels rolling, but yes now he’s got us all interested.

  9. avatar Le' Sean Roberts says:

Bkwrxwgn, that makes no sense the dude came form BAl with Rex, he knows the scheme.

  10. avatar bilal says:

Sadly Tully would probably be the best pass rusher on this current Jets roster. Not sure Adalius has it in him anymore. I know people really dislike BT but i dont see how much of improvement he’ll be over him. BT is good against the run and played pretty good in the playoffs last year- having the best tackle for any jet in the playoffs.

Hopefully Rex could work his magic and sign LT. With our tremendous O-Line we could possibly see a rejuvenated LT for a year.

  12. avatar Bkwrxwgn says:

How many years removed has it been since he’s worked with Rex? Just saying if the Pats have purposely jacked up contract prices for players when other rival teams have interest, I wouldn’t doubt IMO that they wouldn’t be pulling something like this to just prolong the inevitable. I can definitely be wrong but wouldn’t pass it by Belicheat and Co to pull something like that.

  13. avatar Le' Sean Roberts says:

Yeah well, vice versa, Adalius knew the Patriot scheme by second nature….not as complicated as Rex’s 3-4 because Coach Bill’s 3-4 is traditional. It shouldn’t be difficult for Adalius to revert.. Adalius is like Seau, Jason Taylor and Vrabel….they grasp schemes quite fast.

  14. avatar PA Matt says:

Speaking of Pats, what is Derrick Burgess’ situation there? He had good stats in the final few games and saw some time. Is he still under contract, do they like him now??

  15. avatar Le' Sean Roberts says:

    Burgess UFA

  16. avatar PA Matt says:

    ty sir

  17. avatar Lance Mehl says:

I hate when people compare TJ stats with LT when the Chargers clearly gave up on their running game while the Jets are committed to it … all we are asking is for 10-12 carries a game .. if he signs a nice incentive veteran contract why not LT? plus we instantly replace TJ’s leadership in the locker room ..

  18. avatar Jets-Fan-4-Life says:

    Sharper!

    I hope they sign him!

  19. avatar bilal says:

I understand what youre saying Lance but I could say the same thing about leadership. Just because TJ was a proven leader doesnt mean the next old RB would provide good leadership. Hes never looked like a leader on the chargers.

  20. avatar WW85 says:

If it’s only 10-12 carries a game, let’s get some fresher legs than LT. His career is over. His desire & legs are done. There are always RBs available.

  21. avatar Davo says:

I would be surprised if Thomas is cut down late by the Patriots – at that stage, he’ll be fully appraised of the defensive scheme/plans for the year. He’d gladly spill his guts to divisional rivals, even if they don’t sign him.

He’ll probably be forced to play out his “contract year” (where, to be fair, the guy only turned up, at the Ravens) with the promise of not being franchised.

  22. avatar JetObsessed28 says:

Who makes potential FAs available to the media?

Am i the only one who thought that was a bit odd?

  23. avatar Nafstejyn says:

Lance, I agree with you. Another factor not-too-often mentioned in this discussion is how good our offensive line is. I think LT would do fine running behind this line 10-12 times per game. I wish they would’ve managed to hold on to TJ, but they didn’t. Moving on, I’m fine with LT if it doesn’t break the bank.

  24. avatar levi says:

I just read an article that says they are really going after LT hard and they offered him more than they did TJ. Its Fanhouse I dont know how credible it is though.

  25. avatar Jake says:

“The Jets are reportedly willing to match for free agent LaDainian Tomlinson the deal Kansas City gave Thomas Jones.

The contract offer would be $5 million over two years, and the Jets are reportedly willing to exceed that number though incentives. The decision is curious because Jones is obviously the better player at this stage of his and LT’s careers. Jones averaged 4.2 yards a carry last year; LT was at 3.3.”

  26. avatar GP says:

Haha Reuben Droughns…that’s great. He was let actually let into the building by current Florham Park janitor, Lamar Smith.

  27. avatar Killa says:

Tho I luv TJ…LT would be an upgrade. he can hit the hole faster than TJ can during the season his 1st few steps behind the scrimmage were very slow.

but he did give us those hard 1yrd first downs ie..the chargers game late 4th qt

  28. avatar Killa says:

I think LT would get more than 10 to 12 touches

  29. avatar Davo says:

@JetObsessed28 – I think teams do that as a negotiating tactic, kind of like giving the player his time in the limelight. From what I understand, it’s usually something that’s arranged ahead of time when a team has good discussions with a player, and are pretty certain to sign him. The player, of course, would need to agree to address the media also.

I think the fact that he was not to be made available to the media means that the chances of him signing there and then would be a longer shot.

  30. avatar Davo says:

@Jake – you make a good point. I would have thought Jones would have been less of a risk, unless, of course, he just couldn’t take going back to the team after they let him become a FA.

LT has an injury history, and I never got the impression he had that “nails for breakfast” type of attitude Ryan demands of the team.

  31. avatar JetsFanInSouthFlorida says:

As far as Adalius Thomas is concerned, the Pats were not allowed to cut him before March 5th due to salary cap restrictions against last year’s cap. This is similar to why the Dolphins had to “uncut” Joey Porter a few weeks ago. Now that March 5th has passed, Belichick is in no hurry to unload him, since there isn’t a roster bonus coming due. He may keep him until after the draft, since the Pats could be targeting a replacement there. One thing is for sure he won’t be doing Rex any favors, cutting Thomas any earlier than he needs to. For the poster who mentioned that a later cut would mean that Thomas would find out too much info on the Pats defensive schemes for the upcoming season, that is easily remedied by just sending him home.

  32. avatar jp losman says:

how is TJ obviously the BETTER player at this point in their careers?

& you guys bringing up leadership must be relly bored today. who the heck really cares what type of leader your back up RB is when you have a HC like rex ryan????????????????
