Clark Judge writes up the Jets needs in a piece for CBS Sports with the Jets needs as he sees them. Although I don’t agree with all the analysis (I need someone to convince me that DL isn’t the biggest priority) it’s a great in-depth article well worth the read.
Cap tip to Adam S. for the heads up.

“The Jets are reportedly willing to match for free agent LaDainian Tomlinson the deal Kansas City gave Thomas Jones.
The contract offer would be $5 million over two years, and the Jets are reportedly willing to exceed that number though incentives. The decision is curious because Jones is obviously the better player at this stage of his and LT’s careers. Jones averaged 4.2 yards a carry last year; LT was at 3.3.”
Hey guys, found this on Rotoworld.com
No one can say that Thomas Jones is better than LDT at this point, that’s pure speculation.
Jones doesn’t average 4.2 YPC running for a different team, and SD had line issues all season(3 of the starting 5 were out with injuries).
LDT > TJ
Bassett, I couldn’t agree with you more. Anyone who says pass rush isn’t the Jets’ #1 need – and by far – simply doesn’t follow the team.
the better link re: LT is here at AOL Fanhouse. Don’t know if it’s accurate, but it does say they’d be willing to pay up to 3.5 per year.

Jets need 1 more corner.
Opposing teams will try and offset the blitzes and Revis/Cromartie by bringing in 4 wide receivers. Lowrey is a solid nickelback but we need 1 more solid CB.
@Ronnie…can you say Asomgah (sp.) from Oakland…put him at 2 and Cro at 3??? Peyton would not have been able to do what he did to us and we win the AFC!
In order of importance we need the following:
1)pass-rusher
2) safety
3) #3 RB
4) Nickel-back
5) #3 WR
5) O-line depth
Think we are going to see our pass rusher come from the draft.
agreed… it is becoming quite apparent the Jets did not want to spend their first (or second for that matter) on a DB or a 3rd back ..Here is hoping we get a Dwight Freeney type
People always knock our OL depth. To a certain extent it’s an issue for every team because nobody has proven pro bowlers on the bench, but our backups are pretty solid. The dropoff in the event of injury would be significant but that’s because of how good the starters are, not how bad the backups are. The team should always be looking for OL value in the draft, but I’d rank OL pretty far back on the list of priorities.
The draft should be exclusivly about our line depth on both sides of the ball.
We can get all the other complementary peices by picking up FA’s. We got our needed safety, LDT would end our needs at RB, and Coles could come in and be an immediate upgrade at the #3WR spot. You won’t find a better guy for this and next year then LC.
Jake you are 100 percent right!
DE, DT, RB, CB, WR
i think it would be stupid to give LDT a 2 year deal – then when we inevitably cut him after 2010 we have dead money on the 2011 cap (if there is a cap/season).
Mr T needs to be SMART and use the uncapped year. pay all the money this year. if LDT really does produce, then resign him in the 2010 off season.
we are going to need as much cap space as possible in 2011 – our young players are going to need to get paid at some point. we should not have a cap hit for a washed up RB in 2011
TJ was much better then lt not even close.
Clark Judge’s latest mock draft has the jets selecting G Mike Iupati at #29. That would be a good value pick, but he completely neglects to have any team selecting DT Dan Williams in the first round. The other 3 CBS Sports draftniks have Williams being drafted at picks 12, 12 And 15. There is no way this guy makes it past 29.
