While the cancellation of his visits to New Orleans and Philadelphia were telling, nothing was definite until the past 24 hours and while nothing is yet officially official, it sure sounds like LaDainian Tomlinson will be a Jet in 2010.
According to three people with knowledge of the process, Tomlinson has decided to become a New York Jet.
“It’s 100 percent,” one source said. “Done deal.”
Sources said Tomlinson is expected to announce the decision today or tomorrow.
Still, Tomlinson said via e-mail this morning that he “doesn’t know” where he’s going yet.
One source cautioned late Saturday night that a decision has not yet been officially made. But the others said today that Tomlinson has let people know he is going to New York.
After nine years as a San Diego icon, Tomlinson was released in February. His 2009 season saw him post career-low numbers in carries and yards, but he left the franchise holding 28 team records and as the NFL’s eighth-leading rusher all-time and third-leading touchdown scorer ever.
In New York, he will back up Shonn Greene.
Maybe it was working with a young QB. Maybe it was Ryan’s personality. Maybe it was the dollars, but I still think it was Rex Ryan and his inhalation of “The Old 96er” that was the move that put them over the top.
I’ll write more later, but for now we want to hear what you think.
Thanks to the many of you who’ve kept me up to date. I clearly picked the wrong weekend to paint my kitchen.

-
I can just think of what Alvin Keels is saying right now. Leon is on his way out if I’m a betting man.
-
Ahh …..Bassett you used my Old 96er line from yesterday….
I guess I was wrong about LT not coming back after leaving…..lol
-
welcome LT!!!
-
maybe we will sign Sproles now
-
Are there any Injured FA left that we can sign? I suspect that this year they decided to run a Hospital.
-
And now six years later the Jets finally get their revenge on the Vikings for Antoine Winfield….
-
I just cannot believe it!! LT is not good for SD but the cheerleaders think he is good for the JETS. If Tanny and Woody know how to build a team….this is Vince Lombardi talking sense to you Jets Fans.
-
God I hope this is not true!
-
I’ll believe it when I see it, but why sign a player ending his career when you can draft a RB in the second round who is going to be much more effective and for less money?
-
neauone, while I don’t love this signing, if it prevents the Jets from spending a high pick on a RB, it will be worth it. What a huge mistake that would be.
-
Now all retired football players will start calling Tanny that they are still good to go and available! Stupid PSLs
-
How depressing.
-
Nikola youn are exactly right. The cheerleaders would say getting marshall faulk would be a good idea.
-
This signing makes all the sense in the world. Why would we waste a second round pick on a 3rd string running back? Thats would be an awful pick! Now we can use our picks to get a pass rusher, a safety, and a WR.
-
Not if he is getting what we could have paid tj.
-
This will be very interesting. As seen with Shonn Greene RB’s with some speed with our O-Line do very good now the old LT would be unstoppable with our line but now hes going to be decent.
I say 900 yards rushing 10 TD’s.. -
Its pom pom time.
-
Alvin Keels is drafting a storm. I hope he stays, but I’m skeptical about Leon’s future here.
-
TJ doesn’t fit a need for this team. Shonn Greene can do everything that TJ did but better. LT is versatile and can fill in for either Leon or Greene.
-

Hold your horses fellas -
“I say 900 yards rushing 10 TD’s..”
I predict thousands of pissed off Jet fans who finally realize that LT was a waste of $.
-
L T COME TO NY!!!!!!!!
-
We rolled out the red carpet for a guy who is done. And i am sure now leon will be gone.
-
Better Yet I expect Shonn and LT to put up Deangelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart numbers.
-
1400 yards and 12 tds not a need
-
ppl shutup!!!!! L T is the best replacement for TJ if not then who is pppl dam he had 1 bad season calm down!!!!!
-
ppl acting like we signed him to a 100 mil deal it’s just for 2 yrs my god.
-
Do the jets ever make a mistake?
-
If they studied the film and still think LT has some burst on the outside, and Schotty thinks he can use LT creatively in both the run and passing game, then I get it. But I watched LT last year and he didn’t look good. I know his O-line wasn’t any good, but I’m just not sure what LT has left.
-
You would think this the lt in his prime. What did anyone see last year that makes lt better then tj.
-
Without a doubt there is still room for leon on this team ,with LT, you now haveb a three headed monster of a backfield, speed, power, pass catching and noone has to rune the ball 300 times and be burnt out like TJ was last year at the end of the season.
Do I see leon as a slot receiver with LT behind the QB on 3rd down passing?
-
I love the threads here saying that this front office has no clue what they are doing. Yeah ummm right. This is the same front office that made a playoff run and were within 30 minutes of a SuperBowl with a rookie QB (whom many people said we shouldn’t have drafted), a rookie RB (since the old warhorse was too banged up to carry the load), and a rookie head coach (who was never going to be anything better than a defensive coordinator). Wow are you guys negative, when the Jets future is brighter than it has ever been before. You are acting like the LT signing is the worst thing in the world. He is going to be our 2nd (possibly 3rd) string RB. Chew on that for a bit. If the best you can do with your negativity is bitching about the signing of a 3rd string running back, I say the FO has done a hell of a job.
-
FORGET Thomas Jones. Forget what they could of paid Thomas Jones, I have ZERO problem with them letting TJ go, in fact I think it was a no brainer. His numbers were awesome, he earned every yard and TD as well as his teammates and fans respect, BUT we can be better. I’m not saying LT is the answer but among the free agents RB that were actually in play, where we’ll lose just money not picks, it’s a solid move. Were not asking this guy to be stud, just a threat. A threat if used wisely is a headache for the opponent, just one more on there list. Plus Cromartie needed a friend haha

Again from the hold your horses department….

Reality,
Sure the Jets make mistakes. Every football team does. But lately, many of the decisions have worked out very well for us.
1. Trade up to draft Revis – Great decision
2. Trade up and draft Sanchez – Good, potentially great decision.
3. Trade up and get Greene – Good, potentially great decision.
4. Trade for Braylon Edwards – Good decision
5. Draft Vernon Gholston – Bad decision
6. Draft D’Brick and Mangold in 1st round during the same year – 2 Great decisions
7. Draft David Harris – Great decision
8. Sign Bart Scott and Jim Leonhard – Both Good decisions
9. Name Rex Ryan as head coach – GREAT decision
10 Sign LT – ???? who knows at this point, but I like the track record so far. -
realty jet fan,
Yes, not a need. Greene should be able to match TJ’s numbers from last year. All we need is a 3rd back. We don’t need another 1400 yards. LT can catch the ball out of the backfield which makes him much more versatile. If Leon goes down again, we would still be able to dump the ball off to the RB on 3rd downs. That was a huge element of our offense which was lost when he went down.
-
In addition:
11. Lito Sheppard signing – bad decision – rectified by trading for Cromartie.
12. trading Jonathan Vilma – horrible move – partially rectified by signing Bart Scott
13. Signing Calvin Pace – Good move – makes up a bit for the Gholston blunderSo when they make mistakes at least they try and rectify them.
-
Everyone that doesnt like this singing is retarded. The Jets run the ball more than any other team in the NFL. We need 3 solid hb’s! It’s established that LT is not his old self but he knows/ accepts his role behind Greene and will split with Leon. TJ would expect the same amount of carries he got last season where as LT knows he is a backup. This allows Greene to step up into the number one role. LT is here because he is willing to take a lesser role, he is a winner and he will be an excellent role model for Shonn Greene and Leon Washington. Why the heck do people want to draft an hb when we have a greater demand in every other position but QB? Great signing by Tanny and Im appauled by the Jet fans that choose to criticize this signing.
We are getting a leader, role model, hall of famer (out of his prime) for cheap and lets not forget that we have the best offensive line in the NFL. We need leadership to make it to the superbowl!
Smarten up Jet fans.
-
LT caught the ball terribly out of the backfield last year, and he was completely ineffective despite having the best passing attack in the league in front of him. Every team the Chargers faced was thrilled every time he touched the ball.
As someone who made the mistake of drafting LT on his fantasy team based on the assumption that while he might be washed up, the rest of the offense would be so good that it would buoy up his numbers, I spent a lot of time watching him. Tomlinson basically redefined toast, and the Chargers had the biggest split in recent history between passing and running effectiveness.
Ugh.

Oh and in reference to the pom pom comments, get real. How about supporting and having faith in your team instead of nitpicking every single decision. Remember this team nearly went to the SuperBowl last year which nobody could have ever predicted.
-
I wasnt too excited about it when the rumors first started circulating, but now that its about to happen Im kind of getting excited for it. ive seen a lot of experts point out that SD offensive line was one of if not the worst O-Line in football, maybe hes not completely done, id love to see what he could do with the holes the Jets offensive line will give him as opposed to the ones the SD line wasnt giving him. Welcome to NY LT!
-
Interesting how rumors about the jets putting a player package together for a trade for marshall come out on the same day that tomlinson is expected to come to the jets……i think the jets feel with greene and tomlinson that washington is expendable….maybe the jets are looking at trading washington and the 4th round pick for marshall….thats what it looks like to me
-
you people are getting too wound up over this, yes its making the news because of his name, but hes gonna see probably 8 touches a game, were signing a backup, theres no need to get up n arms over a backup, if he works out, great. if he doesnt who cares
-
I’m can’t wait to order my LT jersey haha this is a great pick up
as much as I love TJ he was due to make close to 6 mil and Kerry Rhodes 5 mil and those moves will help the jets resign revis mangold an dbrick which is somthing we need to do -
Seanmac,
How bad was LT for your fantasy league, truly?? He scored 12 TDs which made him the 9th best RB TD wise in the entire league, 12th best player overall. If you drafted him #1 then you can complain, but those numbers aren’t horrendous as you make them out to be. Why didn’t LT do better out of the backfield last year as a receiver? Hmmm, maybe because the Chargers were such a good passing team and they didn’t need LT to bail them out as in years past? Maybe they decided that they wanted to make more use out of their 3rd down scat back, Darren Sproles. Did you watch LT last year? Was he dropping passes? Was he targeted by Rivers and couldn’t get open? Or was Rivers able to find his other receivers open down the field, guys like Jackson and Gates? Pure stats do not tell the whole story, except in fantasy leagues.
BTW, I will not be drafting LT in the 1st round of my league this year, as I am not expecting him to be a great fantasy value. But I am looking forward to him helping in the maturing process of both Mark Sanchez and Shonn Greene on my favorite, non-fantasy football team.
-
Jetsfan0906 – Just one more decent RB could have made the difference between the Jets going to the SB in the AFC Championship game and the Jets losing (which unfortunately they did) after Greene went down the Jets were toast.
-
If LT comes here, I believe fans will be pleasantly surprised. Not because of who he is or what he did years ago (who cares!) it will be because he can be a solid outlet for Sanchez catching passes out of the backfield. What he lost with age, he’ll be compensate for with vet savvy.
But the biggest thing some fans fail to realize is that Rex and Pettine examined the tapes and had to assess what LT could do against them in last year’s playoff game. – That’s an assessment of what LT is as a player NOW, not 8 years ago. – I trust Rex’s knowledge of what it takes to defend against the current LT. He knows more about D than I ever will.
-
maybe we can get Philip Rivers and Shawn Merriam..
Meet the 2010 Cleveland/San Diego Jets!!
-
jetsfan0906
wWat do you mean “you people” … Lol … *Tropic Thunder*….. get it …
-
Real football >>>>>>>Fantasy football
-
JFISF,
As someone who also had LT on my fantasy league – when your # 1 RB doesn’t rush for 100 yards in a single game ALL SEASON yes I would call that a wasted pick.
And the reason the Chargers went to the passing game was because their running game was so inept. LT 3.3 YPC.
-
JetsFanInSouthFlorida,
Seanmac works for the website FootallOutsiders.com, and he definitely knows his stuff (not that you don’t). I’m just saying, he probably knows the numbers, beyond simple stats, better than anyone on TJB and I certainly trust his opinion for it. -
Ryan- same here. I dont really love the move but now that it may happen i’m getting excited and may be a bit disappointed if he ends up choosing the vikes over us
-
Hey Richard,
Still having AJ Duhe nightmares? Just kidding. No thanks on Rivers, I think Sanchez will eventually be better. Now Merriman could be interesting, maybe next year.
I realize this was tongue in cheek, but hmmmmmm…..
-
Hey JetsFanInSouthFlorida,
LMAO…it would be interesting!! Did you really have to bring up that name AJ Duhe?.haha….let’s get LT!! god knows we need someone to back up the injury prone Greene..
interesting stat..since 2001 LT has only missed 4 games!! 3 of them were last year
-
Tomlinson’s DVOA on receptions was -31.2%, the worst number put up by any back in the league who caught a minimum of 25 passes. He was literally the least-valuable pass catching running back in the league.
-
Seanmac31,
And thus the reason the Chargers were using Sproles on 3rd downs. -
Super T,
YPC and total yards rushing in a game sometimes has more to do with offensive play calling and an atrocious offensive line. Once again, we aren’t trying to get LT to rush for 100 yards a game, we are getting him to be a 2nd-3rd string RB. If he winds up getting 100 yards in any game this year, that probably is a bad thing, because it means that something bad happened to Shonn Greene.
Snakeman,
In your defense of Seanmac, the only numbers talk that I argued with him about was LTs true fantasy value last year. 12 TDs is not a horrible fantasy number at all. His yardage was terrible as pointed out by Super T and others, but in fantasy leagues yardage usually counts for a lot less than scoring TDs. My argument against Seanmac was with his comment that LT “caught the ball terribly out of the backfield”. I don’t care if he works for a stats based website. Did he watch every play the Chargers ran last year? Did he know what every play call was? Did he look inside the head of the gunslinging Philip Rivers and see what he was thinking on every play. Numbers don’t always tell the whole story. But if you do want to post some numbers, post the number of targets for Tomlinson last year in the passing game and in other years passed and show me how terribly he caught the ball. -
I love stats … Chad P has a good completion percentage ..HOF …
Fantasty football >>>>>>> real football ..How good are J Coch’s fantasy #’s .. Just curious ..
-
^
sarcasm -
Seanmac,
Can you explain what DVOA is, as I have no idea what that number represents. It sounds pretty bad, but notice that you said it was based on 25 catches minimum, which LT did not have. Small sample sizes can really throw off statistics, as you should know. Now if DVOA has to do with number of times targeted, or number of drops, and the sample size is significant enough, then I will bow down to your stats and say, sure he had a bad season last year. 1 bad season!!!
-
The only question I have about this signing is Tomlinson’s health. He has been banged up the last two years with various ankle, toe and groin injuries which have greatly affected his production. If he is fully recovered I think he can make a significant contribution as a 3rd down/change of pace back since he won’t be taking the pounding he did as the feature back in SD.
-
SuperT,
The Chargers inserted Sproles as the 3rd down pass catching back in week one last year, so it wasn’t a decision that was made due to Tomlinson having a poor year. Thus, your argument doesn’t fly.
-
They used Sproiles as a third down back because that’s what he is and he gets paid a lot of money to be that not because LT can’t catch . If your paying a player big bucks to play, then you play them
-
For me, this all depends on the deal. If it’s a 1-year incentive-laden contract with an option for 2nd year, that’s fine for a back-up. I’m just worried that they’re going to go all out — “Gotta sell them PSLs” — and stupidly give him a deal where they’ll be forced to try and make him a showcase back. Ugh.
Overall, I’d rather they just passed on him altogether and brought in someone (mid-round draft pick in a deep RB draft anyone?) who isn’t done, which I think LT2 is.
-
AKA Jack,
Most of the available free agents fit that same category. TJ was banged up, as were Fargas, Bell, and Westbrook. Chester Taylor was one of the few that stayed pretty healthy, why not AP did the bulk of the work in Minny, but we had no shot at Taylor.
Let’s hope that with a reduced work load and a better role, that LT will shine for OUR team.
-
R in CT,
I don’t see the LT signing having any repercussions on drafting a RB in the middle rounds, so I don’t see your concerns there. The Jets aren’t signing LT to anything more than a 2 year deal, which would give that middle round pick time to learn instead of making him someone that needs to be thrust into an important role before he is ready.
-
No offense intended JFISF because you seem like a very intelligent articulate fan, but why are so many Jet fans seemingly wanting to ignore the data and irrationally lose their minds over the Jets potentially signing him?
His YPC sucked, he didn’t rush for over 100 yards a single game last season, his pass catching sucked (as pointed out by SeanMac31), he didn’t stay healthy, he will most likely be making more as backup RB than TJ was as a starting RB.
But all I keep reading is excuse after excuse for his crappy performance and blaming it all on the Chargers OL and the Chargers play calling. Ummm didn’t the Chargers win the 2nd most games in the AFC last season DESPITE LTs crappy play?
If his name was almost anything other than “LT” would so many of you be overlooking all these tell tale negative signs?
-
Sign Lt, then trade Braylon,Leon, and a 5 for Marshall, draft Graham and Shipley in the first and second. Get a RB in round 4, Safety in Round 6, and OL in round 7
QB:Sanchez
RB’s:Greene, Lt, 4th round pick
FB:T-rich
WR’s:Marshall,Cotchery, and Shipley
OL:Brick, Faneca, Mangold, Moore, Woody
———————————————-
Jenkins, Ellis, Graham, Thomas, Pace, Harris, Scott, Cro, Revis, Pool, and Leonhard on Defense
^^^^^^^
loaded team -
JetsFaninSouthFlorida-
True, but LT had more than his share, including having a groin muscle completely detached from the bone. That’s why I take his stats over the last two years with a grain of salt. Stats are important but they only tell part of the story. Hell, Sanchez had a statistically awful year last year but we were also 30 minutes from Miami.
As I said, as long as he is over these issues, and I’m sure the Jets medical dept. has gone over him with a microscope, I’m in favor of this signing. LT will be playing behind the best run blocking team in the league and he will have a much reduced work load. He can obviously give us things TJ never could if healthy.
-
ESPN is rumoring that we are making a play for Marshall.
I do not know how I feel about that, but the Saints were loaded with a bunch of dropouts, so why not us try it. Difference? They have Brees and we have Sanchez. I would rather make a play for Sharper and keep Braylon.
-
I dont understand jet fans writing that our gm and team deserve more credit. People writing that our hc is the best in the nfl. Hes not the best in the afc east. We havent accomplished anything yet.Win a superbowl that is the only way to know if we are the best. B ut so many of the jet fans say every move is a good one.
-
super T…..you cant make a statement like “if he wasnt LT you wouldnt be overlooking these signs / stats”….
b/c he IS LT!!!! his overall body of work is hall of fame quality….and only last year was his first real dud…year before 1000 yards was fine….
and who doesnt like the guy with a chip on his shoulder and something to prove?? and as you know he wont be asked to do alot for us….
i like the signing…its not like we are asking him to change the world…he will be a nice piece to the offense…and a veteran to help shonn….
i just dont like the rumors that LT coming means Leon is going….that would suck….
-
Super T,
No offense taken. I don’t see how any of my arguments are leaning towards being irrationally losing my mind over the signing. As I have stated numerous times, I see LT as a 2nd-3rd string back and not a savior. I do see your argument against those stating he will go for 1400 yards and 10 TDs and I completely agree with you there.
No question that LT had a down year last year. But he did still lead the Chargers in TDs with 12, which I am sure helped them win the 2nd most games in the AFC. Is he still the mega back that he was just a few years ago? No. Do we need him to be that mega back? No. Can he be an effective 2nd-3rd string RB on a run first team with the best offensive line in football? That is the question that you must truly ask when judging this signing. I believe he can be. You may not agree, and that is fine if that is your opinion. I think we can both agree though, that if we have indeed signed him, then we should all hope that he can play the role on this team that we need him to play and nothing more.
-
I won’t be surprised if LT gets the shot to start and wins the job . Don’t get me wrong I love SG but LT ‘s all around attributes are better . Everyone’s saying he’s lost a step maybe so but he’s still faster than SG and TJ by far.
-
If signed of course
-
CA Jets Fan,
I can’t find it on Espn.com can u link it please. -
jetsfansouthfla…..well stated…
you can say its a lame signing for alot of reasons…. but not when you consider what we are expecting out of him!
and if shonn gets hurt….LT can fill in well enough….
which is why we probably should draft another back in the later rounds…..
-
We’ve accomplished alot .. Only 1 team per season can win the SB … Oyea the PATS are cheaters …

jake…. truth and rumors…insider on espn.com

By now, we’ve all heard some creative plans on how the Seahawks can avoid sending the No. 6 overall pick to the Broncos in exchange for Brandon Marshall (the Seahawks Addicts blog had a pretty intricate one). After all, it’s the opinion of Mike Klis of the Denver Post that the “Silence from Seattle” is a pretty clear indication they don’t want to relinquish that pick. The Dolphins might also be interested, if Zach Thomas has anything to say about it, according to the Miami Herald. OK, anyone else?
We’ve heard some buzz on the Jets making a play for Marshall for a few weeks now, and Michael Lombardi of National Football Post reports on Sunday that the Jets are “having internal discussions regarding Brandon Marshall and would love to put together a package of players that might entice the Broncos and still keep their first-round pick.” Even something involving that first-rounder (No. 29 overall) wouldn’t be too bad, considering the player they’d be receiving.
We have to consider the Seahawks still the front-runners here, but the pick requirement continues to be a stumbling block for them. ESPN NFC West blogger Mike Sando thinks Seattle won’t be too hasty:
-
i’m a little worried about who we’d have to give up to get marshall…i don’t think there is anyone else i’d like to see go at this point
-
thanks klecko71
-
The Jets need to re-sign Leon. When you rely on pounding the rock like the Jets do, you need at least 3 viable RBs, as we saw with the injuries last season. LT should complement Leon, not make him expendable!
-
ha…good one bent….
he is the offensive LT though…
if the rumors are true that brandon marshall could be had for leon and a 4th rd pick i am all for it by the way….
a jerk is a jerk…but you cant argue that marshall is one of the best WR in the league….
-
Mr T is like “Jack Sparrow” .. I wonder if he plans evrything out or does he just make it all up as he goes along …. There’s no other GM/Coach combe I’d rather have ..I’m realy loving the energy of this franchise ..
I think I’m brainwashed …
-
Final thoughts and I have to go eat -
Potentially paying LT starting RB money to be a backup RB is a smart idea to some of you guys?
If LT is signed to be the starting RB we’re really in trouble. I’m not posting his stats from last season again, but I will also mention they have been seriously going down EVERY year and not just last season.
As great as Shonn Greene was the end of last season I’m not completely sold on just annoiting him the starting RB for 2010 as we don’t know how he can hold up/handle the duties for a complete season, which makes the signing of LT even more worse. Meaning, we need a RB who can handle more than a few carries a game.
If the Jets send Leon packing as well after potentially signing LT it will be even worse as well. Leon Washington = Darren Sproles who the Chargers wouldn’t have won 13 games without.
-
As far as Marshall goes, it is tempting as the guy has immense talent and he could definantly help Sanchez in his growth as a player. But, and this is a huge but, can we really afford to have the rest of the package with him? This guy could would be a horrible influence off the field on guys like Greene, Keller, and Sanchez. Imagine the trouble he could truly get into in NYC. This guy was responsible for the death of a teammate in Denver, that is very scary to me.
I would have to say, thanks but no thanks.
-
jake – “then trade Braylon,Leon, and a 5 for Marshall”
that sounds just awful, i think you are seriously overestimating how good marshall is – braylon pretty much gives us what marshall gives us without the huge headaches – and to thrown in leon and a pick as well, uuggggg
-
super t…..totally agree that we cant “trade” LT for leon…… we know we cant rely on shonn 100% the guy has half a season basically under his belt…..
as far as paying LT to be a starter…we might end up paying him what TJ got from the chiefs… but it aint the same… we know LT isnt the starter….
enjoy your meal….
-
jetsfansouthfla…. i dont think you would have to worry about marshall being a bad influence on sanchez…
come on…..thats…..a…….s—t—-r—–e—–t—–c—–h…….
i do marshall for leon and a 4th…. no way we give them braylon also thats insane…..i—-n—–s—–a—–n—-e— =)

I love it
“I say 900 yards rushing 10 TD’s..”
‘I predict thousands of pissed off Jet fans who finally realize that LT was a waste of $.
‘
I could care less how much they spend in an uncapped year . Plus 900/10 as a back up is sick -
the guy is a top 5 reciever in the league, gonna tak more than leon(broken leg) and a 4th
-
Super T,
Lets see what the deal is before we criticize the $$$. If we are paying him what the Chiefs paid for TJ or what the Bears are paying Taylor, then that is not starting RB money, as both of those guys are backups on their new teams (Charles and Forte are the starters there).
As far as LTs signing affecting Leon coming back. Three things here, first this gives us more leverage against the dreaded Alvin Keels in negotiations with resigning Leon. Just imagine what Keels could ask for if the Jets didn’t have a plan B in place? Second, LT on board doesn’t mean that we don’t have a place for Leon. Leon would still be a big part of this running offense if he is resigned. Third, if some team is willing to give Leon a ton of money and we cannot match, I will feel a lot better knowing that LT is our number 2 rather than Chauncey Washington.
In other words, I see the Leon debate completely separate. Whether we resign him will be based on what kind of money he is looking for, what kind of money another team is willing to pay, and whether we feel an extra 2nd rounder in a deep RB class (Toby Gerhardt??) is worth more to us than Leon is.
Enjoy your lunch. May I suggest a grilled Dolphin sandwich, that is always a nice thing for a Jet fan to eat!!!!
-
0906…. agree…. but i read that rumor somewhere…. cant find it now….
i say we add shipley to the existing group and we are just fine
-
southfla…. 2nd paragraph of your last post is SPOT ON!!
you have to be a new yorker originally?? =)
next time i am hollywood beach….if your in the area…. drinks at omalleys are on me…..especially if its a jets fins game….

pats are 3 time champs
-
who in here honestly thinks that greene cant match or better TJ’s 1400 yards…
i for 1 think he can do an easy 1500 yards or more depending on if he can stay healthy…LT/leon will be great complements to greene…just my thoughts
-
So happy if he comes…and when he scores 12 tds people can eat their words. Behind our line he will be awesome..
-
Brady Quinn traded to the Broncos!!
-
Klecko,
BTW, one of my favorite JETS of all time. Yep, I grew up on the Island and moved down here to Finsland about 12 years ago. I don’t ever miss a Jets game at ProPlayer, scratch that, Landshark, scratch that, Dolphin Stadium, scratch that, whatever they are calling it now. I just love going in there with my Wayne Chrebet jersey on and messing with all of the fair weathered fins fans that actually show to the games. Last years game was very entertaining even though we didn’t win.
Hollywood Beach isn’t all that nice anymore, IMHO, but free drinks at Omalley’s sounds good to me. I live up in Palm Beach now, after 10 years in MIA, and I have a really nice Duffy’s Sports Bar which attracts Jets fans close to where I live. We rocked the house during the Charger’s playoff game.
-
BTW, maybe we can get JetsFaninMiami to join us for drinks!!!
-
Who could argue that lt is a better rb then tj at this point in their careers
-
whoa whoa whoa….not all that nice anymore?? whens the last time you were there?? the boardwalk is all re-done…kicks ass….. nikki beach at the diplomat on thursdays….whaaat =)
le tub….speaks for itself…. and now there is a nice sports bar next to nikki beach (accross from diplomat if u dont know) called rivals….fancy, but also cool… was there last year for the opening weekend of the ncaa’s…
been going down there the last 10 years…have a place 3-4 bldgs north of the diplomat…. so walking distance to the boardwalk…. omalleys is the best though….. get drunk, leave your seat at the bar and run to the ocean….repeat….
i was at the MNF game last year…great seats…was glad i was there instead of in a bar in nyc…would have broken stuff…. also went to the favre debut in 08…. in the sun… brutal…but a win is a win…
-
Reality,
We can argue that point all day, everyone has their own opinions. Is that what we should truly be debating? I think the debate is and should be whether this team is better off with TJ or LT. In my opinion, LT will play the role that we need better than TJ and that is the role of backup RB who can catch passes out of the backfield. If the argument was who would be the better starting RB at this point, I would lean towards TJ, but that is not the debate.
-
>>Who could argue that lt is a better rb then tj at this point in their careers
Rex Ryan, Brian Schottenheimer and Bill Callahan. I think these guys may know a little about football.
-
Klecko,
I will have to check it out. It has been 2 years or so since I was there and it wasn’t very nice at that time.
I have been to Jets games in Buffalo (in the dead of winter) and Miami (in the heat of September) and definitely prefer the heat. More of an excuse to get toasted on ice cold beer. Plus the Jets traditionally have fared better in Miami than in Buffalo. Nothing like seeing a sea of green and white at an away game like we get down here.
-
I hope they do
-
Should be intresting.
-
I am still hoping this is just an ugly rumor and if true is all about selling PSL’s. Bring back Washington, draft a RB and see what Green can do. Tomlinson will be on the bench sulking or injured by game 5.
-
jetsfansouthfla….. yes you do…. boardwalk all re-done… as you get deeper in past omalleys where all the bars are together as you know… its now alot better…
of course i dont know your age….maybe you cant hang with us mid 30′s guys =)
but i love the area…..been 10 years now…. perfect location to hang in holly or take the easy ride to south beach for the night.
as far as the football point of our posts…ur 10000% right and it cant be debated…. LT is a good fit….. its not a bad move by any means….and i dont see how anyone can say it is….
friend of mine is a die hard charger fan…..said its the one team he would hate to see him go to b/c he hates the jets..
-
and benny….and anyone else who thinks this is a PSL move…
S—-T—–R——E——T—–C——H!!!
aint no way the signing of LT helps PSL sales…..WAKE UP!!!
psl’s aint selling b/c we are too smart to waste the $$….
people who want to go to a game can simply pay more then face and pick their games…. which is what i do….
PSL’s are a joke….and godell is an ass for letting them happen…..fans been getting f’d for too long already!!
-
I disagree. Take a look at those buying PSL’s these days it is not die hard fans it is corporations buying seats for employees and out of town visitors, this definately makes the seats more interesting to those who watch from afar.
-
Why would he be sulking? He has already stated that he is not looking for a starting job. If he was looking for a starting job, he wouldn’t have gone visiting the Vikings, he wouldn’t have cancelled his trip to Philly and heprobably would have gone up the road to talk with Belichick as he could probably be the starter up there.
LT is looking for a reduced role, with less carries and more looks in th passing game. The Jets and Vikes both offer that, which is why he is deciding between the two.
Regardless of whether we sign him or not, the Jets are giving the reins over to Greene. Signing LT gives us leverage against Keels on getting Leon resigned and it takes away some of the sting in case we lose him. This is by no means a ploy to sell PSLs, that would be the case if we were to trade for Brandon Marshall.
-
“oh i dont know if i wanna fork over 10 grand for my 4 seats…. but they made the title game last year……nah…. oh wait… they signed ladanian tomlinson….GET MY CHECKBOOK THATS THE CLINCHER”….
=) some thought sanchez was a PSL move….. lets face it… people who want em, and can afford em, are gonna get em.
those on the fence…aint going to work with a bag lunch b/c we signed LT…..
-
benny…corporations are gonna decide based on their bottom line…… and this seasons run to the title game had to help sell some i would guess….
LT aint helping…..
and corporations cant have em all…….regular fans are gonna account for most of em i would think??
that would be a good thing to research….say there are 50000 PSL seats…how many sell to corporations as opposed to normal people =)
-
Klecko,
Oh don’t worry, I can hang. I hit the big 4-0 around midseason this year and I have been known to toss a few down over the years. Like LT though, my best days are behind me, but I can still carry the load if needed ;)
-
ha….the bloodys at omalleys are the best i have ever had…
guy who makes em….ED…from boston (his only fault)…. is a master at em……
we’ll have to meet up next fall / winter no doubt
-
He can say what he wants. He said the right things for the most part last year, but 2 things that struck me: 1. him pouting on the sideline when he wasn’t in the game and 2. you never heard from spoles about what a great help Lt was to his career. Even the way he is playing this out is grandious. Quietly make up your mind and be done with it. His 15 minutes of fame lasted 10 years, time to let it go.
-
Klecko,
You are speaking my language there. Bloody’s happen to be my favorite and I have had a tough time finding a good one down here in South Florida. Nothing like what I used to get up in NYC. When you have to ask the tarbender for a bottle of tabasco, some celery salt, and some worcestshire after he has served you the drink, there is a problem. Hooligan’s in Miami (Dadeland) used to make a good one, but it has been a while since I made my way down there.
-
LT is coming in here to be a backup…a role the Vikings are in a bidding war against the Jets right now to obtain his services.
No one in pro football will deny that LT can be effective in a reduced role behind a great o line…you people are acting like the Jets are bringing him in here to shoulder the whole load
Stop overreacting about a 2nd or 3rd string RB
-
We are assuming greene ready to be the man. He fumbled alot and got hurt.
-
southfla…. then omalleys is a must stop…. weekends best time to make sure ED is there….
he aint fireman ED!!! but he is very cool… they are all very friendly there….and have the NFL ticket…. and plenty of TV’s…
but they dont buy back drinks alot…..weak…
and benny….you are right about some of the LT pouting stuff…. but i also dont think he is playing this out too much… guy got released what 2 weeks ago??
hell it looks like he cancelled 2 of his visits (saints eagles) which is rare….. so i dont think he is milking it….(bruce coslet…ugh…sorry)
-
but southfla…. make sure u ask if ED made the bloody…
i was there once….”oh ed isnt here…but i have watched him make them dont worry”
5 min later i felt like i was at TGI fridays or something….
so TRUST ME… only get the bloody if its made by ED… he makes a huge jug of it that lasts all day when he is there….
-
Eddie we cant pay him what we would have paid jones.
-
reality jet fan
How many times he fumble in playoffs when he took over the load for TJ? Goose egg
ALL ROOKIES FUMBLE…go back and look at the great Curtis Martin or the fan favorite TJ…they all fumbled more in thier rookie seasons
Rookies make mistakes but they learn from them and the good ones finish strong like Greene did
You people just look for an excuse to bash the team…this is how every NFL football team does buisness
-
The Jets made TJ an offer to restructure, he turned it down.
When he didnt get the money he thought he would get on the open market, he came back to the Jets…and the Jets moved on
I loved what TJ did here, but he did it to himself by thinking he would get more than he got here on the open market. Besides, TJ got a frontloaded contract. The Jets paid that man every cent of the guarenteed money on his initial deal
-
Adam_Schefter Filed to ESPN: it’s official. LaDainian Tomlinson is a Jet. He reached agreement on a two-year contract. Done.
-
Like I said before- if they tried to tell me LT could carry it 300 times and catch 75 balls, I would be insulted and outraged…
But he is coming in here to be a backup, spell Greene, maybe split some 3rd down duties with Leon and that’s it
RBs are more effective when they are in a rotation with other good RBs in the NFL…the Giants Earth, Wind and Fire, and TJ and Greene down the stretch last year.
When Ward split, Jacobs and Ward were both not the same players
LT cant do it by himself but he can help if he has a reduced workload
-
Time to move on people- TJ is gone
However you feel about it all the moaning and groaning in the world aint gonna bring him back
I think LT can help as a rotational guy…we are gonna find out
Im done arguing it

glazer says LT a jet as well

South Florida—DVOA is an efficiency stat that measures how effective your yardage contributions were on a per play basis (getting to 2nd &6 or better, 3rd & 2 or better and converting on 3rd or 4th down) and adjusts for the quality of defense faced (i.e. how you did versus every other player in each situation against that defense). As noted, LT was 41st in the league in rushing DVOA and worst in the league at receiving (25 attempts, btw, not receptions–that was a typing error on my part). When running backs drop off a cliff as receivers, it’s usually an indicator that they’re done. As it happens, LT fell off the rushing cliff as well. As I indicated, the Chargers were historic for the difference between run and pass efficiency.
People like to toss out LT’s touchdown numbers as proof that he’s still a goalline threat, but that’s a poor arfument, as the Chargers artificially inflated his totals by feeding him the ball way out of proportion to his effectiveness. He was actually below average around the goalline, with just a 43% success rate, but he ended up with decent totals because the SD air attack repeatedly put the ball down close.
Basically, LT deserves very little credit for the good part of his stat line.

Just wanted to touch upon your list there JetsfaninFlorida
I think one of the most underrated moves recently is the trade up to get Dustin Keller. We were linked to ALOT of WR in the second round, Jet fans including myself were looking at drafting a WR.
James Hardy, Limas Sweed, Malcom Kelly, Devin Thomas…..these guys have made NO impact on their teams and I haven’t done the research but I bet Dustin has more yards/td than all of them combined.
I would rank that move near the top for not only who they picked but who they didn’t pick. I’d consider him a true first round pick and it’s sad that most of the media fails to recognize that brilliant move and only focus on Gholston at number 6.

great move now if LT can’t run behind this offensive line than he’s done.
