Hit Rewind …

by Bassett on March 14th, 2010 at 4:33 pm

There’s a reason we write things like “noting is yet officially official.” LT just told Kevin Acee he has yet to make up his mind.

LT just told me he doesn’t know where he’s going yet. That means he hasn’t “officially” made up his mind — ka

    This is getting old

  2. avatar Bent says:

Who does he think he is…Brett Favre?

  3. avatar E. Weeks says:

I’ll believe he is either a Jet or a Viking when Schefter tweets about it.

  4. avatar CRIMSON-SE7EN says:

    Bent,

    EXACTLY!

  5. avatar jlb0183 says:

yea yea yea………announce it tomorrow so that LT can be all over ESPN . Cuz you know thats whats gonna happen.. im ok with LT to NY

  6. avatar tm2master1 says:

yeah with the college bball taking all the time on espn today it makes sense for LT2 to wait to officially announce tomorrow to get the most press

  7. avatar jet says:

i dont care, i like it when its unofficial…it brightens up my day!

  8. avatar ronnie says:

This LT signing is being made into too much of a big deal.
He’s being treated as the final piece to the puzzle which he’s not.

    Anyone agree with me?

  9. avatar reality jet fan says:

This guy is not good enough to keep the jets waiting.

  10. avatar jvsvn says:

You’ve got to give LT’s agent credit. He’s created a heck of a buzz for a guy who just had the worst year of his career.

  11. avatar E. Weeks says:

    ronnie,

I agree LT may be a small part to the puzzle but by no means is he the final piece. The Jets still have a bit more work to do.

  12. avatar Seth (Rochester, NY) says:

Since most of us Jets fans are also Mets fans (my opinion), I will reference that it was like the Mets waiting to sign Mike Hampton and ARod in 2000. Yep 10 years ago. This time I am hoping for better results and LT2 is ours. I think with our O-line his numbers will signficantly improve. I also want to add that there will be no limit on the number of endorcements this future HOFer will get in NY.

  13. avatar AKA....Drew says:

Like I said I knew he wasnt coming here….

or he is and I am wrong….lol

  14. avatar nyr2k2 says:

I’m betting he is leaning towards NYJ, but he’s waiting to see if the money is right.

  15. avatar JetsFanInSouthFlorida says:

WOW, talk about over-reaction. Even you Bent. This is nothing like Favre who says I am…I am not…I am. Tomlinson has stated that he wanted to go home and speak with his wife and pray over the decision. All of the he is coming, wait maybe not, oh yeah he is coming talk is from the media and not LT.

  16. avatar JetsFanInSouthFlorida says:

    Ronnie and E Weeks,

I agree. LT isn’t the final piece, but he should definitely help. We still need a 3rd receiver (Shipley please), a pass rusher for the outside, depth in the defensive backfield and both lines, as well as some special teams gunners.

Are we a better team with LT, that is the debate.

  17. avatar jvsvn says:

Seth – I think the point you make is the real x-factor that no one is talking about. I don’t know what LT’s goals are for the future but you’ve got to think New York would present him with a lot more opportunities to prepare for his life after football than would Minnesota. I’m sure he must be thinking about that at this stage in his career.

  18. avatar AKA....Drew says:

Brady Quinn traded to the Broncos…..for P Hillis and picks

  19. avatar MEL31602 says:

    Per Cimini:

While LaDainian Tomlinson appears to be leaning toward the Jets over the Vikings, a source tells us that the Jets and Tomlinson’s agent have to begin the nitty-gritty portion of the negotiations. That part figures to heat up here in the late afternoon/early evening, and you can bet the agent — Tom Condon — will be doing his best to play the Jets and Vikings against one another.

To me, the fascinating dynamic is the first-year money. Ex-Jet RB Thomas Jones was supposed to make $5.8 million. If the Jets get anywhere close to that for Tomlinson, they will be criticized for paying more for less running back.

  20. avatar JetsFanInSouthFlorida says:

If we offer him 5.8 million per year, I will agree with Super T and others saying NO WAY….

This however is speculation and seems very far fetched. I would expect something similar to TJs deal in KC or an incentive laden deal like LJ got in Washington.

  21. avatar Bent says:

JFiSF – I’m fully aware of that. Obviously, I wasn’t really comparing him to Favre.

Agree that this is being treated as a much bigger story than it deserves to be.

  22. avatar Seth (Rochester, NY) says:

jvsvn, I didn’t even think about the after football love he will get in New York. I have not heard him speak very often, but I bet he is thinking about broadcasting and NY is the place to start. That was a great point.

  23. avatar Scott says:

You all need to relax… the guy’s trying to decide his future after 9 years in SD… give the guy a break, he doesn’t owe anyone a response within 1 day!

  24. avatar JetsFanInSouthFlorida says:

Glad to hear that Bent, sorry for my over-reaction.

  25. avatar Johnny says:

We better get this frikin guy

  26. avatar 96DEBACLE says:

its been alittle over 24 hours since he left.
give the guy a frigin chance!

  27. avatar brightfuture says:

wow!! cleveland just got ripped off

  28. avatar Emerson Boozing says:

Oh my God!! OH my God!!! OOOH MY GOD!!!!!!!

Middle of March and people are freaking out?

  29. avatar levi says:

I think it would be funny if the Jets signed westbrook or Fargas now. Send a message we dont wait. lol

  30. avatar brian g. says:

Looks like Cleveland is having another sell off.
Maybe we can swing something on draft day to get to #7

  31. avatar CRIMSON-SE7EN says:

    brightfuture,

No they didn’t , Quinn is awful. Even though it is laughable what they ended up getting in return from he Broncos.

  32. avatar jlb0183 says:

How do ya feel about J cro being involed in a trade for Marshall?

  33. avatar AKA....Drew says:

It looks like Denver is changing the whole face of their team….Mcdaniels is tight with C Weiss and now he has Brady.

    Marshall is def out

  34. avatar JetsFanInSouthFlorida says:

Cleveland lost all of their leverage in a Quinn trade when they acquired Delhomme and Wallace. It became inevitable that they would have to get rid of Quinn since he had no chance in starting over one of those two. Holmgren made a big mistake there, unlike Tanny who waited until he had traded for Cromartie before he cut Sheppard and Strickland.

  35. avatar brightfuture says:

He is not that awful but they traded a decent FB, and a 6th round pick next year for a 26 year old QB but they needed to get a QB they could groom to take over Ortons job

  36. avatar brightfuture says:

now the browns traded another guy they are really fire selling anybody thats interesting to come to the jets?

  37. avatar jvsvn says:

Seth – It’s the broadcasting and everything else too. The NFL offices are in New York, Madison Avenue, all the corporate HQ’s, etc. Forget about the endorsement possibilities, maybe the only thing LT wants to do after he retires is run a charitable foundation with his name on it and be known as the world’s greatest guy. You don’t think 2 years in New York with the opportunity to meet Mike Bloomberg and every investment banker in the world would be helpful to that effort. Again, I don’t know what LT’s goals are and what motivates him. Maybe getting a “ring” is the ONLY thing that he cares about and he thinks Minnesota gets him closer. If that’s true, god bless him. But from a business standpoint for somebody is his position (future HOF with only a couple of years left, etc.) being in NYC over Minnesota is a total no-brainer. And that’s still true even if the Jets offer slightly LESS money than the Vikings.

  38. avatar CRIMSON-SE7EN says:

It is what it is,if Cotchery is part of this rumored package for Marshall then so be it. He (Cotchery) is one of my favorite players on the Jets,so I would not like to see it,but if the Jets do make a deal for Marshall we will not be able to ship them a bunch of scrubs like we did with Cleveland in the Sanchez deal. Somebody has to go,that will make some Jet fans upset.

  39. avatar Jets Fan in OC says:

C’mon LT, pick a team and end it.
    You’re killing me here!

  40. avatar Dylan says:

The Browns don’t really have anyone that I would want except for Wright, Rogers, Harrison, Cribbs, and Massaquoi.

  41. avatar Dylan says:

    Adam_Schefter
Last year the Browns could have had Jay Cutler for Brady Quinn. This year they got two late-round picks and Peyton Hillis.

  42. avatar JetsFanInSouthFlorida says:

Damn Wimbley would have been a nice fit here as a pass rushing OLB, wonder what the Raiders gave up for him. Mangini and Holmgren may do the impossible, make the Browns worse than they were last year.

  43. avatar Dylan says:

    JetsFanInSouthFlorida,

Raiders gave up a 3rd, which means we would have had to give up our 2nd.

  44. avatar Brandon from Illinois says:

The Jets made LT look terrible in the playoffs. Maybe LT wants to get back at them by teasing them before signing with the Vikings. I hope not.

  45. avatar John says:

“noting is yet officially official” at least you arent copying and pasting… I bet he comes to the Jets, more touches and more QB stability, look for him to THRIVE in green and white

  46. avatar jvsvn says:

As for the Brown’s trade, could this be the start of the Brett Ratliff era in Cleveland? For anyone who gets frustrated with the discussions on this board – just remember what we were talking about last year at this time. Give me a debate about LT any day.

  47. avatar JetsFanInSouthFlorida says:

If the Raiders gave up a 3rd for Wimbley, Tanny could have fleeced the Browns for a 4th. LOL ;)

But seriously, Wimbley is 26, has very good size and has 26 sacks in 4 seasons with the Browns. I might have been willing to deal the 4th to last pick in round 2 for him.

If we had, then we wouldn’t use a first on a DL, but instead a receiver like Tate or Benn, or a DB. That’s it Tanny failed to take advantage of the Browns again, off with his head ;)

  48. avatar JetsFanInSouthFlorida says:

Ratliff has no chance in Cleveland anymore. Holmgren brought in his guy, Seneca Wallace and just signed Delhomme to compete with him for the starting job. ratliff is now the #3 on the Browns, like he has been since the trade.

  49. avatar Dylan says:

    JetsFanInSouthFlorida,

Haha idk about a 4th…. Maybe if we throw a ST player into the deal!

Yeah Wimbley isn’t bad, but I’m sure Tanny will find something creative to do with our draft picks. I doubt we will pick at 29 and 61. Most likely we will trade up or use one of the picks in order to aquire a player. Wimbley might have been a nice fit but I’m sure there are better options.

  50. avatar AKA....Drew says:

Where’s hank? He can come tell us that Mangini is calling all of the shots in Cleveland….lol

  51. avatar Dylan says:

Adam_Schefter Filed to ESPN: it’s official. LaDainian Tomlinson is a Jet. He reached agreement on a two-year contract. Done.

  52. avatar Organized Chaos says:

Schefter reported it now. Its gotta be official.

  53. avatar Kevino says:

@Adam_Schefter Filed to ESPN: it’s official. LaDainian Tomlinson is a Jet. He reached agreement on a two-year contract. Done. about a minute ago

  54. avatar Shamik says:

LT as a Jet, 2 year deal. Wonder how much he’s gonna get.

  55. avatar Jcjets says:

Just saw on Twitter that LT signed with the jets! Didn’t hear the terms..hope it’s not a lot.

My problem with the signing is..less touches for Leon. But I guess if we brought TJ back it would be the same.

  56. avatar WW85 says:

I PRAY that LT goes to Minnesota. The Pats & Dolphins are praying he comes to NY. What a waste of time for a broke down, no legs, no heart RB.

  57. avatar WW85 says:

What a joke. the biggest mistake since the Ghost.

  58. avatar Organized Chaos says:

There’s NO WAY this could be nearly as bad as the Ghost. Ghost was a massive money commitment and years commitment in a year that had a salary cap. Worse comes to worse we still got Greene and LW (for now). Comparing this to Gholston is not right.

  59. avatar david harris says:

    WW85,

its an uncapped year, if anything he can be cut, i doubt that his contract is high enough for the jets to have guaranteed a large sum of money. I think you’ll be proven wrong by LT as well. If he doesnt produce then he will be cut. Low risk high reward… just like Brodney Pool. Stop being such a nancy.

  60. avatar largebarge says:

    WW85

    YOU’RE A BAFFOON!!! “NO HEART”??? YOU’RE LOST!!!

  61. avatar JetsFanInSouthFlorida says:

Well WW85 if this is our worst mistake in 3 years, then we must be headed in the right direction since he is going to be a backup possibly 3rd string RB.

  62. avatar jcjets says:

I would have rather seen them resign TJ, but LT does bring a different dimension to the offense than TJ. It will be interesting to see how they use all 3 backs this year on offense.

I don’t follow the broncos enough to know, but is Marshall really a game changer? I know he has had lots of issues off the field, and seems to be a duesh the way he was acting in practice..

  63. avatar AKA Jack says:

We take Cromartie and LT from San Diego? To quote famous San DIego sports legend Champ Kind, Whammy!

  64. avatar WW85 says:

OK-Not as big a mistake as the Ghost, but this just makes no sense to me. Largebarge-I have been watching LT for years. I haven’t seen the guy show any heart for at least 3 years. Have you seen him in the playoffs? Who can forget the “visor” game against the Pats? I can’t figure this move out.

I TRULY HOPE ALL YOU GUYS ARE RIGHT about LT. I hope he can hide behind our awesome line & put up some yards. The AFC East is hard hitting, cold weather football. I don’t think LT has the stomach for it, but I hope I’m wrong.
