very classy move by our FO

  2. avatar droseatwork says:

Now I feel all warm and cuddly!

  3. avatar levi says:

Good job by the front office. Nice pic too.

  4. avatar Ben Nevis says:

Good PR move, but nothing more than that.

What good does it do TJ—or the Jets—for the FO to be blowing smoke up his a$$ now?

  5. avatar Harvlis says:

They should have just matched the KC deal. They could have saved the money on the ad. Instead, they are looking to give a player with half of TJ’s production, $7Mil over two years.

  6. avatar Shamik says:

Classy move, can’t hurt, and it creates some goodwill.

  7. Some of you guys won’t give credit where credit is due.

The Jets had their reasons for not matching the offer.
I agree with ron…”very classy move by our FO”

  8. avatar owine says:

Wow I must say, I love the Woody, Tanny and Rex regime. This organization is really climbing its way to the top in the NFL.

  9. avatar Green Lantern says:

    Well Deserved.

  10. avatar Jets4evrr says:

I agree very classy, but they would be MUCH better off if they could have found a way to Keep TJ

  11. avatar Ben Nevis says:

I would have been more impressed with this ad if it had said something like: “Thanks for your toughness, dedication and leadership, but we’d rather pay the same—or more–money to a RB coming off the worst season of his career than a RB coming off the best season of his career.”

  12. avatar AKA Jack says:

Nice move. I can’t remember ever seeing the Jets do something like this before.

I’m sure it’s not lost on other players who are considering signing with the Jets.

  13. avatar Ben Nevis says:

Have to run out now to go play poker for the rest of the day and night.

So this will have to be my last post on this thread for a while.

But it seems highly likely that even though this ad was bought and ran in KC, Mike T would be smart enough to know that we’d all get wind of it back home.

Which is to say, the target audience for this ad was not necessarily TJ, but the disgruntled fans, as well as the players in the Jets lockerroom, who spoke out after Jones was cut.

  14. Ben— You act as if TJ and LT are identical-style backs. Maybe the Jets feel that the skill set that LT provides better suits their needs for 2010. Whatever the reason is… don’t be such a “hater” — The Jets did a “good deed’ and most Jet fans see that and are willing to acknowledge it.

  15. avatar OriginalJetFan says:

My guess LT was impressed too, maybe that had a little to do with it>

  16. avatar nakey says:

if the jets sign tomlinson, its not to replace thomas jones (shonn green is tj’s replacement, same type of running back except green hits the hole quicker).

tomlinson will give the jets another pass catcher out of the backfield

  17. avatar Co2 says:

hmm a lot cheaper than a new contract. another savvy move

  18. avatar BoCash says:

Very Awesome, Kudos to the FO. Thanks TJ.

  19. avatar Marvel says:

Mehhhh …. I’m still glad he took his act on the road … You know the whole “let me introduce myself to the OLs back 100 times” & “hey where’s the LB so I can dive at his legs” routine .. Sooooo glad he’s gone .. Don’t realy care for LT2 but I’d take him over TJ in a heart beat ..No stat in the world can refute what my eyes saw …

Should have saved the ad money for contract extensions ..

  20. avatar Super T says:

To all of you saying how great LT is as a pass catcher, Sproles was the 3rd down back in SD.

  21. avatar tm2master1 says:

I would just like to echo this ad’s sentiments – Thanks TJ – one of the hardest working and classiest players

  22. avatar realty jet fan says:

I would assume everyone would agree a superbowl win is required before we are talking about the jet being a top organization. And before we have decided our gm n hc are the best in the league.

  23. avatar brightfuture says:

Ok, TJ did not like his role the Jets did the classy move to begin with by saying you gave us your all we will honor your request to leave enough of this he wanted to stay and the jets got rid of him!!!!!

  24. avatar sexy rexy says:

Now that’s class. it truly is.

  25. avatar JetSetRadio says:

Rotoworld has posted a thread stating that LT is “almost assuridley” will sign with the Jets by tonight or tomorrow morning…wow

  26. avatar bleed green 24 says:

very classy by our front office. awesome job

  27. avatar realty jet fan says:

Revissss , great job finally some real news today not involving rex weight.

  28. avatar AKA....Drew says:

Class move by the Jets….. When will this organization actually get some credit for being a pretty well run operation?

  29. avatar realty jet fan says:

    When they win a superbowl.

  30. avatar atrain says:

great move!!!!! get LT NOW. AND I WILL BE HAPPY TILL AUGUST…..

  31. avatar HOZ THE JET says:

WELL IT LOOKS LIKE LT WILL BE A JET TODAY OR TOMMORROW, NOW THIS MARSHALL TRADE IS STARTING TO MAKE SINCE MAYBE LEON IS EXPENDABLE BUT I HOPE THAT’S NOT THE CASE…

  32. avatar trevor says:

is there a site with draft profile videos on all the prospects? two years ago si.com did that and it gave highlights and stats on every player in the draft.

i was wondering if instead of typing in players names into youtube, if there was a site i could go to

please help me out anyone, thanks

  33. avatar Jcjets says:

Classy? Seems kinda lame to me.

  34. avatar MEL31602 says:

And now from a more reputable source: Chris Mortensen’s twitter:

Out of a great day at church….and, yes, LT & Jets are walking down aisle toward the altar.

  35. avatar Ed L says:

    WE GOT LT!!!!

i think the marshall deal isnt going anywhere…

    GREENE LEON & LT awesome!

  36. avatar AKA....Drew says:

I guess I was wrong……I am happy that Tanny and Rex got their guy. I hope I am also wrong that LT is finished

  37. avatar Scott says:

@ Ben Nevis (aka Thomas Jones)

Alright… we get it, you’re not happy… neither are some of us, but what’s done is done and it’s time to move on.

Personally, I have grown to trust the Jets front office for making, for the most part, solid moves (except Gholston). So why is it so hard to believe that with their 1st hand inside knowledge, they obviously had some good reasons for not re-signing TJ? A few reasons I came up with were as follows:

    1. his obvious lack of production down the stretch?
    2. his obvious lack of explosion off the line due to aging legs?
    3. his inability to practice down the stretch b/c of his knees?

The point is, don’t you all believe that Tanny and Rex would have made the call to bring TJ back if they truly felt that he could still produce the way he used to?

  38. avatar Joety says:

CLASSSSSSS. THe JETS are The most respected franchise in PRO FOOTBALL> thats why free agents all want to play for us like the YANKEES man!

  39. avatar ronnie says:

I guess we should expect a thank you notice from the Chargers in the New york Times in a few days thanking LT for his time in SD.

  40. avatar JetsFanInSouthFlorida says:

    Super T,

Last season was the first time that LT was not used as a pass catcher out of the backfield and he was replaced by Sproles. Prior to last year, Tomlinson had no fewer than 50 catches in any season. In contrast, TJ has only eclipsed the 50 reception mark once in his career. Even in his worst receiving year of his career, LT had twice as many receptions last year as TJ (20 vs 10). This to me is the true value of LT on the Jets next year. Another major receiving threat and 3rd down get out of trouble target for Sanchez. Just think about what he will mean to the development of our most important player.

  41. avatar Scott says:

Oh, and Ben Nevis (TJ)… I loved TJ (you) as a Jet; he (you) busted his (your) butt for (3) years and gave it his (your) all. I wish TJ (you) the best of luck in football and life!

  42. avatar Nikolas says:

What a bulls@.it, they just try to cover their a.@s. They have opened two big holes in the running game (Jones) and defense (Rhodes) for purely monetary reasons….in a year with no salary cap.
The team now is worse off .. and obviously with NO PLAN the only thing left is ….luck. Let’s hope now that they are lucky in the draft.

  43. avatar vd10 says:

espns afc east blog reporting that tomlinson and jets is 100 percent done deal

  44. avatar JetsFanInSouthFlorida says:

    Nik,

If that is the case then why are we hearing that LT’s deal is for the same amount (or more) than TJ’s? Also, the Jets just went and gave some extra upfront money to Cromartie in order to help him pay for some legal issues. This doesn’t sound like a penny pinching move. They have become more responsible with their money for sure, but they are still spending without a doubt.

  45. avatar Super T says:

    JFISF,

LT was my #1 back on my $ fantasy league last season and I watched every one of his games. I want NO PART of him on my favorite football the Jets next season. For those people saying how soft TJ was last season, the wind would knock LT over last year. On most Sunday’s I would watch the Jets play the early game and watch the Chargers play the late game and there was absolutely no comparision between the two RBs and the stats (as much as all the Jet fans want to stick their heads in the sand and ignore them) completely bear it out. LT is DONE!

  46. avatar realty jet fan says:

    super t making sense!

  47. avatar JetsFanInSouthFlorida says:

    Super T,

You are right, there is no comparing the two, because they are two completely different types of backs. TJ is a power back who gets the tough yards. Tomlinson is not. The power back for our team next year is Shonn Greene. Who would you rather have playing that role, Greene or TJ? My argument, which you have totally ignored is that LT will play a role that TJ could not play and that is the back out of the backfield catching passes and being a safety valve for our young QB. Think about how many times Sanchez locked onto Cotchery on 3rd down last year and it cost him. Not because of Cotchery, but because of the fact that defenses knew that he was going there when he was in trouble. LT gives him an option that TJ cannot.

BTW, I also had LT on my fantasy team last year and I wasn’t too thrilled about his reduced production, but he did have 12 TDs, so he was not a total bust as you make him out to be. Those 12 TDs were 9th best in the NFL for a RB and 12th best overall. While that is not what you were expecting if you drafted him #1 in your fantasy draft, it is far from being a bust.

  48. avatar RDubbs says:

Class act from an organization that, all too many times in the past, failed to show such good sense.

  49. avatar stoneman says:

Anybody notice every player that complained or held out regarding their contract is gone soon after?
    Mike T doesn’t take ****
From players regarding $$$ except when he is chasing after them.

  50. avatar neauone says:

How can anyone here be so critical of the F.O. for doing what they did. The F.O. didn’t have to do a thing. Tell me how many other organizations have done anything like that in the last 50 years? When guy’s in here smack down the F.O. for doing something in appreciation of the time, effort and professionalism of a Thomas Jones in a show of gratitude for services rendered it makes me question just what kind of fair weather fans they are. This is a business, T.J. did what was right for T.J., the Jets organization did what was right for them, L.T.

  51. avatar neauone says:

continued, L.T. is doing what is right for him. But it WAS a classy thing to do in a day and age when were surrounded by ingrates.

  52. avatar Co2 says:

    @joeyt–
please don’t compare the jets to the yankees. it actually takes savvy and wits to do successful transactions in NFL compared to cap-less, unfair league that is the MLB

  53. avatar Chrebookie says:

Classy, but one has to wonder if there was other motives involved with it.
Great to acknowledge his contribution and leadership.

But was it too little to late?

  54. avatar simplysimon2 says:

Perfect!!! For whatever nefarious reason: pr or one-up-man-ship, honoring TJ in his new home town was the perfect move for TJ, the Jets and the rest of the sport’s world. None of us knows the “real story” on why the Jets left TJ leave although I suspect health, TJ’s pride and money were in the mix.

I have never seen such class from a sports organization. I honor Woody as the instigator and Mike and Rex for piling on. Makes me proud to be a Jet fan. This moment is only second to that night in Miami when another unbelievable thing happened–guaranteed or not.

  55. avatar Benny says:

I think this was more about the team. The response from the players was rightfuilly irritated. Bringing in LT is a slap in the face and if the nonsense about Marshall comes to fruition the locker room becomes a war zone.

  56. avatar Jets-Fan-4-Life says:

Good move, sad to see TJ go but I get it.

I would have like to have gotten his autograph before he officially goes so anyone knows of any dates and locations he will be autographing please let me know!

Hopefully who ever comes in will be productive and will build chemistry quickly with the OL before the season starts!!!

  57. avatar C Low says:

Wow. As a met fan, its great to see front office with class and dignity. Whether you were for or against you got to give a lot of credit for thos orgs classyness

  58. avatar Jake_the_Jet says:

Poor attempt by Woody to cover his image. TJ for LT… Woody is just trying to sell tickets. Hope this doesn’t hurt a developing offense. As a diehard Jets fan, I weep. Till next time– your boy

  59. avatar bonebreaker says:

This was not classy in my opinion. This was a move in order to save face with the other players on the team. As if they care???

  60. avatar cold_old_steelers_fan says:

    Class Move.

It would have been nice for TJ to be back but that is how it is. It is Shone Greene’s chance to shine with LT to provide support.

If Leon is still around it would be great. If not then draft a young back or two.

  61. avatar bubbybrister/shovelpass says:

If this were the Mets, they would take out an ad BEFORE Willie got canned, and when his plane landed, this is how he would find out…

    LOL

  62. avatar Drifty says:

That is tough to look at, a poor attempt at saving face for letting one of the ‘good guys’ go. The Jets FO could have put this in every newspaper in America but it won’t make up for the foolish moves our FO made when letting him go and eventually signing L.T. Jets fans who think this is “classy” and “well deserved” have some serious blinders on…. GOOD LUCK IN K.C. TJ!

  63. avatar LWsquad says:

Nice guesture, pessimists can look for the ulterior motive and eat the “should have just kept TJ” sour grapes all they want. It’s done, move on. Not one other team can I think of that would have done something that can only be discribed as a very respectful showing of gratitude…If you disagree, you’ve got your own issues.

  64. avatar LWsquad says:

Oh and good luck TJ….you’re gonna need it with that line.
