Film Room: Mangold on Wheelhouse

by Bassett on March 16th, 2010 at 3:00 pm

Nick Mangold was on the Wheelhouse with Brian Custer and BT last night to talk about the Jets and the offseason moves. A lot of great content in here on the running game, the loss of Thomas Jones, and Mangold’s contract status, and much more.

Let’s start this thread with an off topic—what is the over/under Rex’s weight on opening day?

  2. avatar Ben Nevis says:

    NamVetJet-

Whatever it is, I’ll take over.

  3. avatar Organized Chaos says:

NamVetJet it will be over whatever the over/under is.
Also – Just listened to the presser with LT and Mr. T and LW is so gone. Mr. T said they would considering taking a RB in the draft and constantly mentioned Shonne Greene and Ladainain without heavy references to LW. Then later LT said something along the lines of possibly playing with Shonne Greene and “possibly” Leon Washington.
The Denver Brandon Marshall news is going to surface soon. I say a 4th rounder, Leon, and Braylon to DEN for Marshall and Clevlands 6th. Just throwing stuff out from MY OPINION. But something I think will happen.

  4. avatar brightfuture says:

organized chaos i would make that trade

  5. avatar Pdubbs says:

I too think Leon is out….. Tanny is so fake that he is getting easy to read.

  6. avatar Brendan says:

Guys, his stomach is banded, he has no choice but to lose a ton of what.

    Organized Chaos,

    I hope you’re wrong.

As for this post…I love Mangold. I think that’s been established. I just want to pound bud heavies with him and play pranks. In fact, if I ever strike it rich, this will be my first endeavor.

  7. avatar BigKatt wants a ring says:

Organized Chaos – I think that would be an awful move for us. Next year we NEED to resign Revis (who should get the richest contract ever for a DB), Mangold and Brick (Big $$), Cro if he has a good year (which he will) and then Braylon and Leon if they perform well (Edwards should have a big year, idk about Leon). The last thing we need is to trade picks from the deepest draft in years for a prima donna WR that will demand the highest contract ever for a wideout. We just can’t afford to pay him that kind of money next year. It would be really foolish of Tanny to pull the trigger on a trade for Marshall.

  8. avatar BigKatt wants a ring says:

Brendan – “pound bud heavies with him and play pranks” Hahahahahahah that would be the bomb.

  9. I don’t want this Marshall trade to happen. So far this offseason, everything I wanted to happen didn’t and everything I didn’t want to happen did, so I’m starting to think that this trade is a done deal!

  10. avatar Ben Nevis says:

    Brendan-

I’m betting that when that lap band comes off, Rex eats his own weight in burgers and fries and American cheese.

  11. avatar Jon Presser says:

if you want a few reasons why marshall is not a good fit for us, click my name.

warning, yes it’s bleacher report. i urge you to give it a shot tho. i’m trying to be an exception to the B/R rule. i try to write unbiased, objective, opinionated works.

either click my name or click here http://bleacherreport.com/articles/363490-brandon-marshall-a-fit-for-the-jets-not-in-a-million-years if you want to give it a look.

  12. avatar Brendan says:

    Ben,

I actually hope you’re right. I love my big, cuddly hunk of a head coach. I don’t want him looking like Seinfeld’s Newman after he had his stomach stapled.

“My neck looks like a vagina” – Fat Bastard. We don’t want that.

  13. avatar TB says:

question: Do any of you want the thanksgiving day night game?

I really don’t think thats throwing us a bone for screwing us on the opener!

  14. avatar BigKatt wants a ring says:

Jon P – read your article. As you can see i don’t want Marshall, but not for any of the reasons you stated. I kinda would consider what you wrote a biased, opinionated article. The fact is that B Marsh is a phenomenal WR, he’s just an egomaniac that will demand way to much money, money that we need to give other players. That’s the main reason he doesn’t fit with us.

  15. I have a friend who recently did the lap band thing and though he lost a ton of weight, he looks terrible. Just a ton of extra skin!! I guess that stuff tightens up eventually. But it’s for the best if it makes Rex healthier and thus can stick around as our HC for years to come.

  16. avatar Jack says:

    Jon Presser-

How does one go about writing unbiased, objective, opinionated works? Wouldn’t the fact that they are opinionated, your opinion, make them biased and by definition not be objective?

I’m just busting your stones. I don’t want Marshall either, too much baggage and prima dona in him.

And that’s my biased, subjective, opinion.

  17. avatar BigKatFan says:

Tye Hill was cut by Atlanta. Former 1st round CB. GET HIM!

  18. avatar Marvel says:

    TB

I think we got a sweet deal ..
    -first pre season game
-first primetime game/Monday night week 1
-we are a hot ticket so will probably get thanksgiving too

  19. avatar Marvel says:

    Brendan

“I eat because I’m unhappy & I’m unhappy because I eat”–Fat Bastard .. Honestly one of the deepest statements I’ve ever herd .. Wonder if Rex felt that way lol..

  20. avatar brightfuture says:

    NYC PARKING,
Did you really not want the jets to trade basically nothing for a 25 year old all star corner?

  21. avatar BKWRXWgn says:

I really hope that doesn’t go down where Leon and Braylon gets traded for BMarshall. Great WR but personal would be a cancer for the team and the pay load this Diva would expect. Wouldn’t it also be a set back since Sanchez would have to get use a new WR all over again?

  22. avatar Harlan Lachman says:

Absent a team panickying because they wanted Dex Bryant and missed, noteam will trade so much for Marshall, including the Jets. Maybe denver gets a second round pick for him.

Leon is worth at least that. Besides the fact it is his tender, most think they should have tendered more. Plus, he is an RFA and his salary will be a lot less and they don’t have to do nothing for two years.

I expect Marshall to hang there but Leon and another player are likely our best offer; and not a player as valuable as Braylon who cost us our 3rd and th in a loaded draft and some bodies.

  23. bright future –

didn’t like all the reports about how soft cro is and also all his off the field baggage worried me. Now that he’s here I’ll root for him.

  24. avatar Jon Presser says:

i appreciate your feedback on my brandon marshall take. granted, what i wrote was just my opinion, i’d take brandon marshall on my fantasy team or my madden franchise any day.

i just feel like he’s a ticking time bomb. i kind of explained in the comments on that article further thoughts.

haha, “unbiased” and “opinionated” are total opposites. sometimes i write opinion articles, but i got started with game recaps and game previews. my latest is pretty obviously an opinion piece.

i think marshall is one of the the best 8 or 10 wide receivers in the game. i think any team that gets him is getting a dangerous weapon. (see, colts game, 21 rec).

the point i tried to make was that the jets offense is going to blossom in year two with sanchez in schotty’s offense, with edwards and cotchery, keller, the RB dumpoff and screen game, as well as the predominant run first style of rex ryan.

brandon marshall is a luxury item that is unnecessary for the jets, not when we’re this close to title contention, not when his off the field problems could be a distraction to the task at hand.

  25. avatar dakar says:

    organ

thank god your not the GM…you would send our 4th leon and braylon over to denver for marshall and a 6th round pick…

now every1 in here knows i want marshall…but i wouldn’t rip myself off in the process…god bless man…would you honestly make a trade like that…i would never make a trade like that…you must have been joking…right…

  26. avatar JetsFan4life says:

Interesting to me how no one noted the answer to the TJ vs. Kerry ? Not that Mangold dissed Kerry, but his lack of anything positive to say re Kerry, when contrasted with all the nice things he said about TJ in his answer spoke volumes.

  27. avatar pound4pound says:

JetsFan4Life, I caught the exact same thing. Sometimes silence says it all, eh? I have a feeling we’re going to miss Kerry not at all next year.
