Jets Re-Sign Tony Richardson

by Bassett on March 16th, 2010 at 5:55 pm

Schefter is reporting on ESPN that Tony Richardson is back in the fold with the Jets.

This is a great signing for the Jets. I didn’t much doubt that they’d bring T-Rich back for a third year, but this moves adds another veteran leader to the locker room and a solid producer on the field.

    Good news

  2. avatar LWsquad says:

    Thank you T-Rex!!!
BTW, Any opinion on going after Josh Bidwell the TB punter??? He was cut and after looking at his stats, def seems like an upgrade over Weatherford. His Avg. has gone up every year in the league and has only had one TD returned in the last 5 years…that’s saying something considering how bad TB has been, especially on ST.

  3. avatar GulfBreezeJet91 says:

    Best FB in the league…

  4. avatar BigKatt wants a ring says:

Thank the Lord!!!!! Hallelujah!!! The #1 rushing attack shall stay with Jets for at least another year!!

  5. avatar Fobi says:

good, now get revis and mangold their contracts next

  6. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

No brainer…T Rich has been solid and unselfish ever since he came here.

Perfect example of what a veteran leader should be

  7. avatar Lonnie G says:

This is huge. Won’t make headlines, but its one of the biggest moves we will make this offseason.

  8. avatar cuzican73 says:

Thank God 1 less worry, bidwell sounds like a good move

  9. avatar mole57 says:

    Yee-hah!

  10. avatar dakar says:

    great news…

  11. avatar EDouble says:

Considering how much more effective LT was running behind Lorenzo Neal makes this signing even more exciting! Pave the way TRich!

  12. avatar AKA Jack says:

I’m willing to bet this deal was agreed to before LT came to town even if they decided to wait on announcing it. Rex probably assured LT that he would have his escort in between bites of his last supper pre-banding.

  13. avatar Marvel says:

    Lol @ mole57

    great move btw ..

  14. avatar DHarvey says:

HUGE!!! And on an unrelated note, I agree, let’s get Revis and Mangold extended.

  15. avatar R in CT says:

Yay, finally a move this off-season I can unequivocally say that I love!

Now all they need to do is lockup Leon and I will be good until training camp opens! (Or so I think)

  16. avatar Bkkilla says:

now just re-sign douglas n we should b good!

  17. avatar JetObsessed28 says:

    nice….
i’ve never been so happy to see a 38 year old resigned..

  18. avatar SackDance99 says:

    R in CT,

Isn’t Leon virtually locked? He got a second round tender and if nobody bites, he’s a Jet, right? And, if he is offered a contract, the Jets can match, which they might do if the contract is reasonable. I think this year, with so many RFAs and the uncertainty of the lockout, 2nd round picks are very valuable. It’s a deep draft and I think any team would be loco to give up a 2nd rounder for Leon. I like Tanny, but he sounds like a guy that has an edge to him and I am guessing that Keels irks him. That 2nd round tender was as much an f-you to Keels as it was a strategic move. The Jets could’ve easily given Leon a 1st round tender for not that much more money, but it seems to me that Tanny wants to teach Keels a lesson. There’s no doubt that Keels has overly inflated Leon’s market value and Leon has paid dearly for his agent’s miscalculation. Also, Leon’s prospects for a big 2010 with a reduced role are not good. Thus, when or if Tanny starts to talk longer term deal, Keels has to be a broken man. If he can’t drum up a 2nd rounder for his client, then Leon’s market value just can’t be that great and he will be bargaining from a position of weakness.

  19. avatar tomg says:

Must sign, I’m feeling better about the running game.

  20. avatar jvsvn says:

Everything’s coming together. OK, Nick Folk is a little scary but we’ve got some time to work that out. Otherwise, the team is in great shape heading into the draft. Prepare for another roller-coaster ride come draft day.

  21. avatar Jon Presser says:

i didn’t get a chance to post this in the brandon marshall post but, i think it’s guys like T-RICH that are going to help the jets win a championship in the next few years. not brandon marshall.

i wrote an article on bleacher report (lol) about why i think marshall’s off the field antics are not worth the risk of him coming over and helping this team.

whatever we’d have to give up to get marshall would be an unnecessary risk, in my opinion. i know it’s bleacher report, but i’m trying to get my name and my writing separated from the stigma of that s*** show.

if you care, you can click my name and tell me what you think. i try to follow up with comments when i can. i appreciate any feedback.

  22. avatar CWPOST1993 says:

The stars are lining up fellas … Now we fill some gaps with our draft picks. What a great off season Tanny & Rex !

  23. avatar adornoj1 aka JetFan in Miami says:

LWsquad, im liking the Josh Bidwell idea… Punter is an integral part to the game, and it was starting to look like Weatherford was trying to kick bowling balls.

  24. avatar R in CT says:

    SD99 –

I hope you’re right, and everything you say makes perfect sense … which, as Jets fan, I’m sure you can see would be why I’m worried! I keep telling myself the same kinds of things and I want to believe that it’s a new era, it’s just hard to undo 35 years or so of “expecting-disaster” programming.

    Thanks though!

  25. avatar Revis Christ says:

Great signing.. phew. TRich is such a leader. this has been such a great offseason. I love that I can read this much about the Jets and dont have to watch Tim Tebow throw like a 5 year old. I defanatly expect a huge mive come draft day. Mr. T is a great GM drafting brick mangold harris revis sanchez and he makes moves to get quality veteran players with leadership in the locker room… i would defatly take all those players for one bust (gholston) lol if we were raiders fans we would have to put up with busts every year lol

  26. avatar sackexchange says:

id like to give our young starz a nice chunk of money durring this uncapped year…..that way in years to come we can pay younger starz and keep our all-star nucleus

  27. avatar E. Weeks says:

Great move by Tanny — Glad to see he too can see the value in Richardson.

  28. avatar AKA...Drew says:

The LT signing just got a lot better looking in my mind….

  29. avatar BamBam says:

Excellent! T-Bomb & T-Rex have done a nice job so far.
As for Leon – I totally agree that they are sticking it to Keels who must wish he could turn back the clock right now
As for Marshall – Do you think they would trade Keller?

  30. avatar Revis Christ says:

forget marshall he is a huge problem .. why the hell would you trade keller one of our young talents to get a guy who will just damand the ball and be a huge distraction why would we want sanchez to have to gain chemistry with a walking problem.. in a few years keller is gonna be in the discussion with dallas clark tony gonzolez and antonio gates.. he has that much natural ability he just needs to learn how to use it

  31. avatar BigKatFan says:

    YYEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

  32. avatar JetOrange says:

    T- Rich an excellent signing,
Leon- We all have bosses, Tanny by putting a second round tender on Leon saves his boss 800,000. He does stick it to Keels and lays the foundation for a reasonable long term deal for Leon.IMO there are only two teams that would consider taking Washington. Philadelphia , looking to replace Westbrook ( they also have numerous draft choices) and the Vikings , just for spite, signing LT, and of course Brett has seen Leon up close, and what Brett wants he gets.

  33. avatar Randy says:

    GREAT MOVE.

This move had to be done, and more importantly take away from all the Bashing the Jets were getting today after Woody stated his opinion on the whole coin toss thing…

Now all thats left to do is..
    1-Bring back Washington
2-Draft a Safety first Round or Sign Darren Sharper
3-Explore Wide Receiever options like Coles or

  34. avatar Randy says:

    JetOrange

That would be a huge blow if the Vikings traded for Washington.Washington has more upside right now than LT and giving up only a 2nd round pick for him is a good pickup. On the otherhand getting a 2nd round pick could be a blessing in disguise. It would allow us the option of using that 2nd round pick, along with our 1st Round pick to move up in the draft, or keep it and draft a Young Runningback in the 2nd round and still be able to upgrade on defense with the other 2nd round pick and our 1st.

Either way we will be getting something good from Leon Washington.

  35. avatar Randy says:

And I forgot to mention we could always package one of our 2nd round picks to bring in somebody that can help us win now.Maybe giving up both our 2nd round picks for Marshall and keeping our 1st round pick.

  36. avatar BigKatt wants a ring says:

I say lets move Leon for that second rounder! If we get another pick in the second round of the deepest draft in years that would be huge. That way we can draft a back (Gerhart, Dwyer, Best, Tate) and some help in the secondary (best CB left, either FS named Jones) or our new slot receiver (Gilyard, Dickerson, Shipley). Does anybody else not see that as a great move?

  37. avatar nyj2010 says:

Great signing, stay away from that low life Marshall

  38. avatar Bkkilla says:

if leon gets picked up we can use our first on odrick our second on gerhert and our 4th on shipley, then the 2nd we get for leon can b used a number of ways, saftey or olb?

  39. avatar LWsquad says:

Can we have one of those vote yay or nay posts?
Question: Is giving up Leon for a second rounder something you as a JET fan are comfortable with?
    Mark me for “Nay” btw.

  40. avatar Mike24 says:

I think either way it goes with Washington we come out good. Get a 2nd pick and add some Quality depth with our 3 picks in 2 rounds…who knows, maybe Trader Mike gets crazy with it and trades up for something a lil extra..
OR we get Leon Washington’s explosiveness and explore the ways to get 3 awesome RB’s the ball 35-40 times a game. Leon is a great KR and PR as well so he’ll recieve extra touches there. Hopefully with a nice rotation they all have an better chance to stay healthy.

  41. avatar BigKatt wants a ring says:

    Yay from me LWsquad

  42. avatar GANGGREEN says:

This is the most reliable signing this off season..No question marks here T Rich is definitely the best FB in the league…Now LT,Greene,Washington chip in and buy T Rich something expensive cause he’s about to make your life a whole lot easier this season…Thumbs up to Tanny,Rex,and the FO for getting this deal done….

  43. avatar Bent says:

I’d vote nay, but unless he signs an offer sheet, they won’t even have that option. I don’t see that happening.

  44. avatar AKA...Drew says:

Maybe its just me but I just dont get the Leon for a 2nd talk…… I think fans forget the matchup nightmare that Leon is out of the backfield or the underrated RB he is.

Example….We went to the AFC Championship game without Jenkins…does that mean that we are a better team without him? Ummmm No

Jenkins is coming off his 2nd major injury now 5 years and 50 lbs later but everyone just assumes he will be 100% this year.

We drafted Leon and have him at a low salary…..probably for a few years now. If he returns from his injury which I have not heard he wouldnt (unlike Phillips from the Giants) there is no reason to want to give him up for an unknown draft pick.

Draft picks are overrated, especially when they are not 1st round draft picks…… Leon is not

  45. avatar BigKatt wants a ring says:

Drew, is a high pick in the second round of this years draft really that big of a question mark? Not really.

  46. avatar GANGGREEN says:

BigKatt-Gholston 1st rounder look what we got…The draft is always a question mark…

  47. avatar BigKatt wants a ring says:

GangGreen – That’s one bad pick man, and we still haven’t seen the last of him. If you take a look at our needs, I think it would be pretty damn smart to be able to sure up those needs with second rounders then keep a guy who is now our 3rd string RB coming off an injury.
Who says that it’s a sure thing that Leon comes back 100% from his injury? No body knows about that either.

  48. avatar david i says:

Did you guys see this in the Daily News?

Are the Jets closing in on a starring role in HBO’s “Hard Knocks?”

Maybe so. It was curious seeing HBO Sports boss Ross Greenburg sitting ringside with Woody Johnson and Mike Tannenbaum in Dallas at Saturday’s Manny Pacquiao-Joshua Clottey fight.

Our lip reader had the night off, so it was hard determining what they were saying, but it sure looked like these fellows were enjoying each other’s company.

Would anyone be surprised if Greenburg was doing some hard “Hard Knocks” lobbying?

  49. avatar LWsquad says:

    Bent-
I know you do plenty for us but could you take the time to find out how many 2nd round picks from last years draft were starters for their respective teams? Also, if they were starters, were they role-fillers or play-makers?
I think anyone who has that info will jump right on it, but given the string of posts regarding this 2nd round for Leon talk, I thought it might be interesting.

  50. avatar Jets-Fan-4-Life says:

    AWESOME!!!

Now lets give the guy the ball for 1 F-in touchdown!!!

  51. avatar LWsquad says:

Just looked over the 2nd round of last year,…how do the Pats get soooo many picks in the 2nd round??
McCoy is a decent runner, Laurinaitis is a decent LB, Massaquoi had a game last year, Kruger is a system guy, Maualuga was the best pick in the round, Byrd surprised some people…….ehhh I’ll take Leon thank you very much.

  52. avatar rusty sanchez says:

it makes perfect sense to have the jets on hardknocks rex ryan is a character im sure the rest of the country would like to see…now kerry rhodes has his big chance to be in front of the camera ohh wait he got traded

  53. avatar LWsquad says:

You can’t spell LWsquad without LW….I refuse to change to LTsquad just so you know FO!!

  54. avatar TJBfan (twitter @infresco4) says:

Best move of the offseason thus far

  55. avatar Bent says:

I think the Jets are looking for immediate contributors, but for the purposes of any comparison, one year is really too soon to judge whether or not a draft pick was worth it.

  56. avatar C Low says:

T Rich is over the hill. WTF? Why the hell did the Jets sign him? Oops, my bad, I meant LT.

T Rich, you are the quiet leader and glue on the offense. I’m out! ;)

  57. avatar mike s. says:

Anyone have info on RB Chauncey Washington?
Does this guy have any chance of making the active roster in 2010?

  58. avatar bono-zoffa says:

i’m still happy he survived the mangini era. good to known the jets still appreciate him and he likes being a jet.

  59. avatar LWsquad says:

    Bent-
I completely agree. I’m not saying any of the guys taken last year won’t become stars,I’m saying we already have one. I don’t think Leon was performing all that great last year before he went down, but I see his potential to contribute to our immediate future. This is not the year for a project at RB, Leon has “IT” just get him involved.
Such a shame really, misused for years and then injured in week 7.

  60. avatar Bkkilla says:

if a team wants leon can we match any offer or is it out of our hands?

  61. avatar LWsquad says:

    Bent-
I’m not sure how this works but when does all this RFA, UFA blah blah blah stuff become void? After the draft? I would think placing a tender on someone wouldn’t matter after the draft is done. Please clarify.

  62. avatar BigKatt wants a ring says:

We drafted Shonn Greene in the third. Just thought i’d point that out. I have the utmost faith in Tanny and our scouts to find excellent players in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and so on.

  63. avatar dakar says:

can any1 tell me who has done anything from the top ten class of 2008…the year of the ghost…

we know matt ryan took his team to the playoffs and gave the team their 1st back to back winning seasons…

but other than him who has done anything…

  64. avatar AKA...Drew says:

    BigKatt

We also traded up in the 2nd round to draft Kellen Clemens….thought I would remind you of that

  65. avatar AKA...Drew says:

And we also drafted Anthony Schlegel in the 3rd round…. BTW

  66. avatar LWsquad says:

    2008 top 10 standouts:
Jake Long, Keith Rivers, Jerod Mayo.
Darren McFadden could still be an awesome back.

  67. avatar LWsquad says:

I’m aware of our picks in the third, heck our fourth round has produced some gems as well (Cotchery, LW).
My point is, we can probably get someone good in the 2nd, but we already have a playmaker in Little Leon.
Last year if anyone had spoke or trading Leon, most people would have lynched them.
It’s funny how ppl are so mad about the TJ deal because of the lack of loyalty (btw he was only here 3 years, 2 of which were good). Yet a guy who started his career here and has shown flashes of brillance…..well yeah, a second round pick sounds just awesome dosen’t it??

  68. avatar BigKatt wants a ring says:

Drew we could go all day with this. Trading up for Mark, drafting D Harris, Revis, Mangold & Brick in the same year, J-Co in the fourth, Etc.

I think we need to focus on the future. I would rather have a rookie come in to fill a position that we need help at rather then bring back our 29 year old 3rd string RB for a year, only to probably let him walk next year. You know?

  69. avatar Bent says:

Drew – strictly speaking, they traded down from 35 and then back up to get KC.

LWSquad – the dealine for RFA offer sheets is April 15th.

  70. avatar AKA...Drew says:

    Bigkatt

I am the biggest Mr T and Jets draft supporter. I have been for a long time. All I am saying is the draft is an unknown and even more so after the 1st round.

I just like the guys we have and dont want them traded or to let them walk for “potential” players.

As for Leon being 28. He had limited carries at FSU and has next to zero milage on his tires since being drafted. The last thing I am worried about is Leon being an “old” back in the next few years.

    Bent

My argument sounds better without the trade down and then trade back up reminder…..lol

  71. avatar Randy says:

When did we draft Shonn Greene? was it the 3rd or 4th Round? That pick alone set the tone for how this team wants to be built. We got our future runningback in the 3rd/4th Round and at a good pick. Now this year in a deep draft,I am hopeful the jets can make some great picks and turn them all into key players going forward.

Thing is we actually only have a few holes to fill on this team in this order

    Free Safety
    Pass Rushing DE
    3rd Wide Reciever
    Cornerback
    Defensive Line

Now the way I see us addressing this is Majority of the players will be drafted.Jets need to draft Defense Early because offensive players can come late(Proof Shonn Greene,Washington,Cotchery).

1st Round is Gotta be the best player available who is either a Defensive End or Safety.
2nd Round is whoever didn’t get picked in the first DE/Safety

Any pick afterwards can be Wide Receiver and Cornerback.Im sure Rex and Mike T will do some good scouting.

Important thing right now is to lock up our Restricted Free Agents first and see if we can either move up in the draft or make a trade to improve in other areas.

We can Lock up our core players in Revis,Mangold etc…after we get settled during the Preseason and during the season.Right now extensions arent the main priority

  72. avatar LWsquad says:

    BigKatt-
When they drafted LW they were focusing on the future. In fact all those names you mentioned are in that same gameplan. And yes Leon is about to be 29 and he just had a serious injury BUT there is not a lot of tread on the tires and what does it hurt to have him show us what he’s got?? If he’s done we lose him next year and our chance at an additional 2nd round pick. I doubt he’s done, but if that’s the case, I’ll be the first to say at least the Jets gave him another chance. You can criticize that all you want. We obviously won’t see eye to eye on this.

  73. avatar LWsquad says:

    Drew-
Funny I was using part of your argument at the same time you were.

  74. avatar Shane L. says:

Man I’m jacked they got T-Rich back, I was worried they werent gonna bother. As it is I dont know what took so long. He’s such an important piece on the offense, this makes LT more productive instantly. Plus if he left, who the hell would lead the “and the hooooooooooome, of theeeee, JETS!” chant in the locker room after games?!?!

  75. avatar Randy says:

This is kinda off topic but Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco kinda reminded me of all this silly Sophmore Slump Garbage (refering To Mark Sanchez). Not every Rookie QB has a Sophmore slump.

    Look at Joe Flacco…
He took his team to the playoffs last season and even knocked off the Patriots in the wildcard round.

    As for Matt Ryan..
I dont blame Sophmore Slump on injury.Bottom line is when he was healthy, he was brilliant in games he played. The Falcons are going to be a team to watch out for if they stay healthy but bottom line is this..

All this Mark Sanchez Sophmore Slump stuff is pure nonsense and only brought up by the Jet/Sanchez haters.

*Honestly I dont know what these outsiders dislike about Mark Sanchez.Seems they just like to pick on him for his Interceptions and completely block out his Postseason success where it matters.

  76. avatar BigKatt wants a ring says:

Ha i’m getting the feeling you guys think i really want us to trade LW. I love Leon, i’m just saying that if we get rid of him for a second rounder we’ll be on the better side of that deal. I still think he can be productive, and i think he’ll have some sucess this year as the change of pace back and as a PR/KR. I just don’t think he’ll be back next year and i would rather get something for him then nothing.

Whatever happens this year with LW i’ll be happy.

  77. avatar Marvel says:

    Randy

Flacco threw for like 5 yards that game , sorry just had to say something ..

  78. avatar Marvel says:

    Drew or anybody

you wouldn’t trade LW for a shot at Shipley/Best/R.Jones/Gearhart/Dwyer/Tate etc..

You’d have to atleast think about it comeon..

  79. avatar WW85 says:

Cimini reporting the Jets signed DE Rodrique Wright who was a fish. Anyone know anything about him?

  80. avatar Brendan says:

Very happy to see this. They kept the entire blocking unit together and that continuity will continue their strong play from the end of last year. This gives Greene the best opportunity to be an absolute menace next season, really looking forward to the beatdowns these guys will dish out next year now.

  81. avatar dakar says:

no1 really knows what your gonna get from the draft…

i remember the 2008 draft and all the debates over 2 players i now concider a bust…

they are darren skinny legs mcfadden and vernon the ghost gholston…

in that top ten draft there hasn’t been a single player that has dominated the game at all…solid perhaps…but as a eye popping all pro…not 1…

so this talk of letting leon go for a 2nd round pick just means 1 thing…we’ll have a younger player but will he be able to play as good or if not better than leon…thats the ? and the risk of losing leon…i want leon to be on this team for a little while longer… just my thoughts…

  82. avatar Igs, the double agent says:

    Good thing.

  83. avatar dakar says:

    thats a risk i wouldn’t take…

  84. avatar Brad says:

Rotoworld reporting the Jets to be the favorite for “HBO Hard Knocks” – The Jets, moving into a new stadium with a charismatic head coach, are considered the early favorites to land the show.

  85. avatar AKA....Drew says:

I would be a little less upset if the Jets had someone targeted in the draft on draft day and they swung a deal including that Leon…..

Losing him now without any idea of how the draft will break down just to get a 2nd rounder (who knows where …#34 or #60??) IMO is not a great move.

I want Leon on the team. I didnt forget what he brings to the offensive side of the ball and can add to specials. If there is a player that they really want in the draft then I trust the FO and scouts.

  86. avatar AKA....Drew says:

As much as I would enjoy the Jets and Rex on Hard Knocks…..I hope we do not do it.

HBO is probably drooling over Rex….Can you imagine the F bombs he would drop in 4-5 1 hours episodes?

If this does go down I want Woody to put wording in the contract that Pimp Agent A Keels is not allowed to be filmed……not 1 minute of that clown

  87. avatar Brad says:

WW85- Wright a former Dolphin and Texas Longhorn won Big 12 Freshman of the Year in 2002, where he posted impressive numbers including 13 TFL and 4.5 sacks. He followed that with a 80 tackle, 7.5 sack Sophmore year. He completed his Texas career as a Lombardi trophy finalist and Rose Bowl Champion. Although a highly regarded prospect with a good upside, Wright dropped to the 7th round as it was revealed that he had a torn rotator cuff, spending the entire 2006 season on the injury list. In his one full season with the Dolphins, he recorded 37 tackles, 1.5 sacks as well as recovering a fumble.

He has excellent size as a 3-4 DE at 6-5 and 300lb’s, and he can be filed under camp fodder or interesting project, it depends how you want to look at it. Never hurts to add depth though, especially to a position of need, never know when you are going to strike gold. Solid signing, let’s see what he has. In 2005, Wright started all 13 games and posted 46 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, 15 pressures, three passes defensed, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. He was a finalist for the Lombardi Award and tabbed First-team All-America by the Walter Camp Football Foundation and the Associated Press. To end his career, he won the national championship in a Rose Bowl victory over Southern California.

  88. avatar SackDance99 says:

I want Leon to remain a Jet, but I wouldn’t diss the value of a 2nd round pick, especially at RB. Guys like LeSean McCoy, Matt Forte, Ray Rice, MJD, Brian Leonard, Julius Jones, Tatum Bell, LaMont Jordan, Clinton Portis, Ladell Betts, Kevin Faulk, Travis Henry and others were all drafted in the 2nd round over the past 10 years. There were misses, but many were serviceable players and a few guys on the list are better overall RBs than Leon.

Also, the “Sophomore Slump” for QBs is really a myth. Guys like Peyton, Marino, Big Ben all had great 2nd years (Marino’s 2nd season might be the greatest ever by a QB), and many of the QBs that more or less sat their first years had great sophomore seasons, like Brady, Favre, Palmer, etc. In Jets history, O’Brien had a great sophomore Pro Bowl season, Todd improved, bit still wasn’t good, Namath had an uneven 2nd season and Nagle only started one season, his sophomore season, and was terrible..can’t really call that a slump.

  89. avatar WW85 says:

Thanks, Brad. Sounds like good upside if he can be healthy….

  90. avatar dakar says:

    BASSET

you should make a pole on who we think would be better for the jets this year out of TJ and LT…

THIS WAY WE CAN SEE AFTER THE SEASON WHO WAS RIGHT…

the TJ supporters or the LT supporters…yanni,to see which move was the right move…

    keeping TJ or signing LT…

then posting it back up next off-season…JUST MY THOUGHTS…

What a relief: to hear that Richardson is a Jet again in 2010!

  92. avatar BigKatt wants a ring says:

Tanny said this today about LT “We think he still can run the ball effectively in our system with our players. … We’re really excited to add his skill set along with Leon Washington and Shonn Greene.” Idk how much we can trust Tanny right now, and that’s not really a bad thing (KR), but i believe that he’s telling the truth here. Maybe Leon isn’t going anywhere. Maybe.

Unless we trade up to get Graham in the draft, I dont see how the Jets cannot take Jerry Hughes at 29…

You platoon B Thomas and Hughes, depending on the team or down and distance( B Thomas on obvious running downs and Hughes on obvious passing downs)

Ive been watching a lot of the kid and he is just a pure edge rusher. His quickness, accelaration and agility is ridiculous and he is unstoppable when bending…the only thing our defense is missing is guy that does what Hughes does well

Please Rex, dont hate on Hughes cause he isnt 6-5 265-270

  94. avatar Dylan says:

The Jets on Hard Knocks would be awesome! I can’t imagine that Woody would pass up on the invitation. The Jets are desperate to sell PSLs. Being on that show would definitely bring in money.

  95. avatar Brendan says:

Would love seeing Rex and the Jets on Hard Knocks. After the season Rex had behind the mic and the Jets had on the field this seems like a no-brainer home run. There will definitely be plenty of guys-trying-to-make-the-team storylines because this is the Jets and they have tons of them every year. And with this team there wouldn’t be a shortage of sound bytes. I also like the idea of the country seeing this team in a different light than “the team we love to hate”.

  96. avatar "The Original" RJF says:

The Jets sign Joey Porter 2yr 14Mil deal…………..

Would be a great signing if it happened. I would give him 10Mil this yr alone. Sources said that he’s left Ariz w/ no deal. Now maybe he’s trying to drive up the price by visiting Washington. We all know how long Dan Snyder money is, but The Jets need this guy more than he needs us..

    Sign Porter @ all costs
    Draft Hughes
And this will by us @ least 2yrs of great pressure and will allow us to cut bait w/ Calvin Pace next yr

Leon is not a luxury at RB. He brings a different skill set to the game. His quickness, pass catching ability, etc. create problems for the opponent’s D (assuming he will be physically at 95% or so when the season starts). He is a complement to Greene/LT, not a backup; he is a play maker that can bring a team back in a game that is going poorly. His value should not be diminished. For those of you who point out that the Jets made it to the AFC championship without him, perhaps the results of that game would have been different with him in it.
In addition to what needs the team should address, let’s not forget what Douglas surprisingly brought to the table last year. Richardson quietly does his job, and so does Douglas. And lastly, the Jets have been very lucky these past couple of years with the health of their OL. The cohesion that has developed is wonderful, but it is one knee injury away from having only 4 lineman. Depth on the line, while seemingly a low priority, must not be overlooked. A veteran and a draft choice appear to be necessary needs as well as the obvious ones.

  98. Yes, awesome, this signing is a must.

I can also see letting Leon go for a 2nd, especially if it were to a team with a high 2nd round pick. I love Leon, but I think assuming he will be the same player is risky after that injury. I’ll be happy enough if they keep Leon as well.

Ditto the Parking Expert–but I am going to assume that any team looking at him is going to have that same risk aversion. So I don’t see anyone picking him up and he will be a Jet this year.
