A Hard Knock Life?

by Bassett on March 17th, 2010 at 2:41 pm

Are the Texans and Jets battling it out for HBO’s Hard Knocks series in 2010?

The New York Jets could be first in line for this year’s series that has featured four teams – Baltimore (2001), Dallas (2002, 2008), Kansas City (2007) and Cincinnati (2009).

The Texans were invited to appear last year but decided it wasn’t the right time.

Between Ryan, some very outspoken players, a dynamic young QB, and a surprise playoff run, this could be a slam dunk for the HBO. As the Daily News reported, the Jets brass was at the Pacquiao fight last weekend with the HBO brass.

Are the Jets closing in on a starring role in HBO’s “Hard Knocks?”

Maybe so. It was curious seeing HBO Sports boss Ross Greenburg sitting ringside with Woody Johnson and Mike Tannenbaum in Dallas at Saturday’s Manny Pacquiao-Joshua Clottey fight.

Our lip reader had the night off, so it was hard determining what they were saying, but it sure looked like these fellows were enjoying each other’s company.

Would anyone be surprised if Greenburg was doing some hard “Hard Knocks” lobbying?

Maybe now that Kerry Rhodes is gone, the team doesn’t fear anyone hamming it up for the cameras?

Thanks to Chris R. for pointing this out in the comments.

I want this to happen sooooo bad. SNY should just make it’s own Hard Knocks every year. Or the Jets should be on HBO every year. Who’s gonna follow us up the next season? That show is never going to be the same.

  2. avatar BamBam says:

All of those teams sucked the year they were taped by the show. The lads are already open and outspoken enough without it. Let’s not let the pendulum swing too far toward the limelight

  3. avatar Dylan says:

The Bengals made the playoffs after being on the show. Yes they lost in the first round, but they were never expected to make it in the first place.

  4. avatar Brendan says:

    Bambam,

That’s not true. In fact, only two of those teams had a losing record.

Balt went 10-6, as did Cincy.

Dallas went 5-11 the first time and 9-7 the 2nd time.
    Jax went 9-7.
    KC went 4-12.

So, as you can see, it’s all over the map. More about the team’s makeup than anything else.

  5. avatar BigKatt wants a ring says:

Are you serious? You think for some reason we would be worse after getting to talk **** to the entire league during training camp? We will thrive on that man. We’re the only team in the league that can back up the amount of trash we talk. We personify swagger, and this show is meant for us.

  6. I love the idea of this. I hope it happens!

  7. avatar Dylan says:

The Jets are the obvious choice. No other team even comes close. The only way we wont get Hard Knocks is if Woody declines. He is desperate to sell PSLs though, so I can’t imagine him turning down the offer.

  8. avatar R in CT says:

I’m with BigKatt on this, especially on the part involving SNY — for “the home of the Jets,” I find that SNY’s coverage of the team is severely lacking at times.

  9. avatar Chris R says:

    would love to see this

  10. avatar PA Matt says:

I would love this, BUT I do not want to pay for HBO. Hopefully it doesn’t so I am not tempted lol.

  11. avatar levi says:

I’m with Dylan on this one. How could they not choose the Jets? Rex’s personality alone should win them over, but then throw Bart,Big Jenks and some of the other nuts in the mix and we got it.

  12. avatar levi says:

lol PA Matt I guess I will have to upgrade for HBO.

  13. avatar Brendan says:

HBO costs like $7 on optimum. It can’t really be a make-or-break upgrade.

  14. avatar ramble914 says:

I hope we go back to Cortlandt for camp, I think it was good for team bonding. I’d be ok with “Hardknocks” as long as it isn’t a distraction.

  15. avatar cold_old_steelers_fan says:

I can see why HBO would want the Jets but why would the Jets want HBO? At best it will have no impact and at worst it will end up a huge distraction with the reality somewhere in between. Other than helping with merchandising, I don’t see an upside.

  16. avatar Brendan says:

Haha imagine Hard Knocks in Cortland? They would have so much more material because the players would be around all the time. They wouldn’t have their homes to go back to.

  17. avatar Brendan says:

    Cold_old,

At best it has no impact? National exposure, showing another side to this team other than the trash-talking meatheads the nation thinks they are, portraying Rex as something other than a loud obnoxious fat guy? Those are all reasons.

  18. avatar Lonnie G says:

Can you imagine Rex uncensored on HBO? I want for this to happen so bad!

  19. avatar Adam says:

I think this is the wrong move. Having camera’s all around during training camp is a distraction and a liabilty. A. We don’t want our players to lose focus during this time especially with a ton of names on this team. B. This gives coaches a complete insight to our gameplan and playbook…..PASS.

Wanna to know a good replacements: San Francisco, Seattle, New Orleans, Pittsburgh, Indy

  20. avatar Chris R says:

woody seems to have a hard on for some exposure as of late. probably to sell some more psl’s…but if this is offered i can’t imagine him turning it down

  21. avatar Brendan says:

Guys, a distraction? They give 2 minutes interviews after practice while getting treatment and perform in front of another 10-15 people? They play in stadiums with dozens of thousands of fans and millions more on tv, but some cameras are going to prevent this team from preparing from next season?

  22. avatar Revis Christ says:

i would love to see rex dropping f bombs all over the place. bart scott and big jenk talking trash, nick mangold pulling pranks it would be awsome it would be the funniest thing i have ever seen. and to the people who think this will hurt the team … all the teams that did crappy its cause thise teams didnt have work ethic and cared to much about the cameras.. all of last season rex did a great job keeping the pressure off sanchez and the rest of the team … i think this would be awesome we have a strong team and its much stronger cause we have veteran leaders that wont allow the rest of the team get to distracted form the task at hand

  23. avatar cabras says:

The best Hard Knocks scene was when Herm drew a welcome poster for the Chiefs and they ran all over it!

    Herm= Jackie Childs (Seinfeld Lawyer)

  24. avatar JDB says:

MUST NOT HAPPEN. i would hate this. nobody on hard knocks has success. focus on football, not your camera time.

  25. avatar Vegas says:

I hope this happens. Jets should get as much National Exposure as it can. 1st MNF game, Thanksgiving Prime Time Game, Hard Knocks, all good for Jets Nation. We’ve suffered soooo long, it’s time for us to take center stage.

  26. avatar JesusRevis says:

I, along with several others have been suggesting this idea for a long time. It seems like a match made in heaven and I would love to watch it!

  27. avatar john l says:

and what about the FANS that should be the REAL hardknocks……and please not that douchebag fireman ed who stole the J-E-T-S chant for money and recognition….the real jet fan

  28. avatar sexy rexy says:

Who would have ever thought the day we Jets fans would wanna see our team on a tv show without having to worry about it messing up our season cause thats how confident we are in this team? SWAGGA JETS I love it.

  29. avatar J Roc says:

That would be great, I love that show.

  30. avatar Revis Christ says:

    adam
everyone knows our gameplan already hell rex said it the first day he got the job WERE GONNA RUN THE BALL THEN AFTER WE RUN THE BALL WERE GONNA STOP EVERYONE ON DEFFENSE

  31. avatar levi says:

I wonder how bad this will burn Kerry Rhodes if the Jets get it. He could have gotten some serious exposure instead of heading to a AZ all disgruntled.

  32. avatar david i says:

I would love this, but with Rex, even though I love him making another mess in the news again Ryan, I’m sure there is plenty of reasons why they wouldn’t want camera up in Cortand 24×7….I think it would be great and that they are going to do it, because Woody is going to see it as another way to enlarge the fan base, more tix, more jerseys, more $…he probably wants final editorial approval of content, so it doesn’t blow up.

  33. avatar A. Simmons says:

Ummm… this would be awesome, our new swagger, young Qb, our Defense ALONE the addition of LT in his new environment, and SEXY REXY! what’s not to love!? Sny should definitely make this happen if HBO can’t, which they WILLL

  34. avatar johnsec.125 says:

if HBO cares about ratings, and i’m sure that’s all they care about, it’s a no brainer. the texans? fourteen people in houston would watch it. and that’s if the monster truck show isn’t in town.

  35. avatar Marvel says:

I luv the JETS and I hate to be negative but can some people please act like we weren’t suppose to be in the playoffs last year ……….. Trust me the Kool -aid tastes good but we still have alot of work to do before we win the SN .. The phins/steelers choked down the stretch & the colts let us in ..we had the # 1 D but I recall countless times when we got chopped up in crunch time . We still have “miles to go before we sleep” .. There’s no other coach/gm I’d rather have but Rex still has alot to work on when it comes to being a complete head coach ., and I’m very concerned about special teams. I mean wuz I the only one holding my breath evry time we kicked the ball off ?

With that being said I think I’d pass on HBO .. But I would def watch evry last episode twice if we do get the show .. I’ll take all the prime time games I say we get 3 or 4 ..

  36. avatar pizzapancakes says:

My favorite Hard Knocks moment was when Marvin Lewis was explaining to Ochocinco how banks and investing worked.

  37. avatar Brendan says:

My favorite moment was when Dwayne Bowe and Bobby Sippio found out that they were actually relatives.

  38. avatar John Z says:

Since I’m not able to go to training camp anymore as it’s no longer down the street, I’d love this. Get a better handle on the team this pre-season.

  43. avatar Jack says:

Ravens – 2001 – Went 10-6, lost in divisional round

Cowboys – 2002 – Went 4-12, but what do you expect with Quincy Carter and Chad Hutchinson playing QB?

    Chiefs – 2007 – Went 4-12, come on, it’s Herm.

    Cowboys – 2008 – Went 9-7

Bengals – 2009 – Went 10-6, and lost to the best team in the AFC. That’s just what happens when you play Rex Ryan. He eats you alive, literally.

I don’t view this as a distraction that much at all.

  44. avatar AKA...Drew says:

Shannon Sharpe and Tony Siragusa were pretty hilarious in the Raven one

  45. avatar Brendan says:

If the Jets don’t get it can HBO give Mangold his own show? It would consist of him pounding heavy beer, trying to shave and having razors snap in half as soon as they touch his beard, pulling pranks, throwing rookies into Canada and slaying dragons. I don’t see how this doesn’t get rave reviews.

  46. avatar bungi says:

Good jokes today fellas. The Sippio/Bowe was great..hahah.

  47. avatar A. Simmons says:

I’m with brendan on this one, name it: the MIGHTY MANGOLD

  48. avatar Jets69 says:

Kerry is more concerned right now about whether to eat at Morton’s or have his chef flown in to cook for him. A year after Zona cuts him he will be eating from the Mickey D’s $ menu

  49. avatar PA Matt says:

LOL 7 bucks is totally worth it

  50. avatar SackDance99 says:

There is NO team in the NFL better suited for “Hard Knocks.” Rex is already becoming a cult hero because of KSK Rex and then add in the “Madbacker,” Revis Island, the Matador, Big Jenks, Mangold, Braylon and LT? The rookie pranks alone would be classic. I still remember the 80s Jets “monster in a box” prank. I think it was Dwayne Crutchfield that nearly tore a hammy trying to run away.

  51. avatar Brendan says:

See…that’s what I never got about the people who hated Rhodes. They will take normal statements that tons of other players make and twist them to rip the guy. He’s gone, I know, but really? The guy misses his personal chef so he’s a douche? And Jets69, I hate to break this to you but Rhodes has already made more than either of us will ever make.

  52. avatar rollercoaster says:

I can see it happening. We definitely having some strong personalities on the team, and an active (almost overactive) owner/gm. I wouldn’t mind it at all, as long as the team stayed mentally focused on the task at hand.

  53. avatar JetMetVet says:

Im jumpin in late on this and dont know the show, but you know that Kerry Rhodes has got to be pissed if the Jets get this!

  54. avatar james says:

pizzapancakes: haha that was my fave hard knocks moment as well

  55. avatar james says:

If you want to watch old seasons of Hard Knocks, they are all available for free streaming from Hulu.

The Bengals last year are a must watch, and Dallas from the year before that was pretty good as well. I’m currently watching the Chiefs from 3 years ago, I gotta admit I like Herm Edwards despite how goofy he is. He could’ve used a better staff no question.

  56. avatar reality jet fan says:

The giants would never do this! And neither should we.

  57. avatar Brendan says:

Who cares what the Giants would do. Why do we always measure ourselves against them? The “class organization” of NY football that let Carolina come in and kick its head in to close out the stadium in front of stars past & present as well as lifelong fans. Man, how do we sleep at night not being Giants fans.

  58. avatar A. Simmons says:

Well, the giants suck, and we’re awesome..

  59. avatar reality jet fan says:

That would be a bush league move

  60. avatar Anik says:

I’m so completely against this. We already produce enough soundbytes as a team, we do not need this kind of ridiculous distraction. I love Rex, but I don’t want him edited out of context to provide entertaining but embarrassing TV.

  61. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

The only reason I would not want to do it THIS season…no team that has ever done the series went on to win a Super Bowl

It would be entertaining as all hell though

  62. avatar reality jet fan says:

Go on hard knox and run your mouths after a superbowl. Because without a ring talk is just talk.

  63. avatar A. Simmons says:

Brendan, I just agree.. plain and simple.. forget the new era of NY sports rolling through and the fact that the only thing that stood between our lonesome, lonely and lowly Jets and the super bowl was Eli’s much better brother… didn’t you know; without BLUE there is no GREEN..

  64. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

Its not a classless bush league thing, some of you people are like fun police

  65. avatar reality jet fan says:

Eddie come on man you know this is a mistake.

  66. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

Yea I wouldnt do it this year but its not like its this lowlife thing to do…in some ways it validates you as being a team that the nation will actually pay attention to…

Plus Billick and Marvin Lewis both did it and Rex is Baltimore guy

  67. avatar BigKatt wants a ring says:

Hahahahahah RJF are you serious? Please explain how this is a mistake.

  68. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

And we might all just be jumping the gun here…HBO might have WENT TO the Jets, not vice versa

The Jets might have simply taken the meeting just to see what the deal was…from what I understand though it’s the Texans show to lose

Anyway, Im sure if Rex thought it was a bad idea, he would have the stones to speak up and that Woody would listen

  69. avatar reality jet fan says:

Doesnt anyone think that a superbowl is needed to do stupid show like this. You guys can disagree with me all you want this is giants town until we win a superbowl.

  70. avatar reality jet fan says:

Its almost like there are things to accomplish besides for a superbowl. I think this coach is great and he has made us more revelant. But i think this coach and team run there mouths way too much. Without a superbowl.

Like I said before, I wouldnt do it this year. I agree with you, to much other stuff when we are this close to winning a championship.

This I feel you are totally off base and wrong on. You act as if Rex is this Hollywood guy. When you are a big swinging d@ck and you turn around a franchise in the NFL, people are always going to look for you, want to interview you or get the next scoop.

You cant ask Rex to change who he is so that he can make guys like Fatscesca happy. He isnt going to say the right thing all the time, he is going to believe in his guys no matter what people tell him he SHOULD say.

You can disagree and say “he shoulda say this” or “he shouldnt of said that” but part of what makes Rex a great coach is his genuine personality, you cant ask a zebra to change his stripes….

  72. avatar reality jet fan says:

I am sorry eddie i didnt read your post right about this is the wrong time to do the show. I should say rex and the team talks too much for my taste.I like a team that wins and acts like they have done it before. But like i said i think the coach did a great job.

  73. avatar BigKatt wants a ring says:

I completely agree with what you said Eddie. And RJF, to think that this is still a giants town is absurd. The tides have turned buddy.

  74. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

    Reality-

Rex never disparages the opposition when he “talks”…all he says is he believes in his players and think they can win it all.

Now a couple of times this team said way too much, Bart Scott got carried away a few times, Pace with the “clown” comment….but towards the end of the year all that stopped. I believe Rex put a stop to it as he grew into being a better head coach.

Rex made some mistakes- but the simple fact remains is that the man is one of the few coaches in the NFL that is so good schematically that he can effect the game like a player, from the sidelines. Point is- its not always going to be pretty or proper, but that is the price you pay for having a defensive genius running your team

  75. avatar reality jet fan says:

    Not without the ring.

  76. avatar reality jet fan says:

Dos anyone no if kiper still has the jets taking the safety from usc?

  77. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

Its cool Reality- even when we disagree we can still be civil- no need to apologize its the same thing as if we were in a bar shooting the s#it

  78. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

    reality

No dude you are right in sense. Bart Scott, at times this season, was WAY out of line…and it bit us right in the a$$ early on after we got off to the 3-0 start

Sanchez rookie struggles were the main culprit to us not winning the division- but not shutting up and playing ball early on hurt us too

  79. avatar SackDance99 says:

Judging from the number of Jets jerseys and the spontaneous “J-E-T-S” chants at today’s St. Paddy’s Day Parade, I think my general thesis on Jets v. Giants fans is true. NYC, Westchester and LI are almost 50-50; but, NJ is overwhelmingly Giants territory.

  80. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

    BigKatt

As much as it pains me to say it- the Giants have more fans than the Jets- being as they pretty much own North Jersey

  81. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

    RJF

I think he switched it back to Golden Tate…

BTW, if they take Mays or a WR round one and a pass rusher is still out there, Im going to lose my mind on this blog

  82. avatar NamVetJet says:

My 2 cents: I think that this is a critical year in the formation of a solid football team anything that would distract from that (i.e. Hard Knocks) is not necessary. But as I said before Woody will be all over this—gotta sell those PSL’s.

  83. avatar Mike24 says:

Its not a “Giants” town… Its a whoever is hot town just like the rest of the world. Hard Knocks would be fun for us to watch. And i tend to agree with the fact that these guys are always on camera in front of millions of people at a time anyway… Whats the big friggin deal??? With all of the man-made distractions they deal with how could this be any worse??? Not too mention its just for a few weeks in August…. I hate all the comparisons to the other teams that have done Hard Knocks and what their records were. You people fret about the dumbest [stuff]. If we get it then we get to see some extra footage before we go stompin peoples heads in this year… If we dont get the show we just get to see the JETS go stomp peoples heads in this year…. For a football crowd we seem to have a real bunch of whiney lil Mary’s in here. Grow some nuts….

  84. avatar rusty sanchez says:

i feel like if the jets were on hard knocks this country would love rex…i feel like rex gets a negative persona because the media only writes down the poo talk

  85. avatar reality jet fan says:

Absolutely eddie im just saying thats not my type of team. To me a superbowl ring is the only thing that allows you to talk trash. But you heard peyton manning after that game “we just worked while others talked”

  86. avatar BigKatt wants a ring says:

I don’t mean to offend anyone here, but i really could care less about Jersey. Or Giants fans. They both suck. And don’t get all mad about me talking bad about Jersey. I have family in NJ. I hate it. It stanks.

  87. avatar reality jet fan says:

And eddie i think you disagreed but like i said a few days ago i think LT HAD A LIL TO DO WITH PSLS

  88. avatar NamVetJet says:

BigKatt: Good thing you didn’t want to offend anyone here.lol

  89. avatar reality jet fan says:

Honestly who gives a sh@t if the country likes him.I dont want anyone to like him. Just like parcells.

  90. avatar BigKatt wants a ring says:

And RJF, as much as you like the Indy style of being choir boys and “just working while others talk”, that’s not how we roll any more. We have the biggest mouth in the league as our HC, and a team that defends his every word. I wouldn’t have it any other way.

  91. avatar cold_old_steelers_fan says:

    @Brendan

I just didn’t think it would impact the product on the field. The rest is marketing though I must admit, from a fan’s point of view, I could see my son, who is a Jet’s fan, eating it up. I guess I would probably enjoy it as well. I like the fat man and what he has done so far.

  92. avatar Mike24 says:

    Reality Jets fan

No disrespect to you my fellow Jets fan, but do you really give a rats ass if Mel Kiper thinks we are drafting anybody???? Has that dude made one accurate prediction about any player or team in any round of any draft in the history of the NFL drafts??? That guys is as useful as a weatherman givin you a weekly forecast.

  93. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

    RJF

No I agree. The LT name definitely weighed in the signing for ticket sales…I just didnt think it was the ONLY reason they did it, thats all

And the “ring” thing is fine…but the Jets didnt talk trash…they just said we think we can go in and win the game…to me thats not trash talking…trash talking is saying “they are going to have to carry Manning out on stretcher” that sort of thing…not “we are going in there to win the game…Id be shocked if we didnt”

  94. avatar reality jet fan says:

Its really hard to believe in the jets. Alot of years of letdowns. And when i say letdown i mean no superbowl. Because that is all that matters. That is how rex will be liked,we will get respect, and for a year or more it will be a jet town. I loved last year i did but i want a superbowl.I cant get that nuts about losing in the championship game. Our coach being on the cover of the papers is fine. But it is about the superbowl. And i understand this is a new regime but we have heard all this and been threw this all many times. But i am very optimistic with this coach and qb.

  95. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

The whole Rex trash talking thing was WAY OVERBLOWN…if you read what he actually says, all he says is he has confidence in his team, he thinks that they have good players who can win football games…thats it

When Rex makes those statements, all he is doing is letting his team know that he believes in them, its just that he does it in a public forum

  96. avatar reality jet fan says:

Mike24 dont hold back how do u really feel abot kiper.

  98. avatar BamBam says:

    Hey Jack,
So you don’t view this as a distraction???

Ravens – 2001 – Went 10-6, lost in divisional round (2000 they were 12-4 and won the SB!!)
    Cowboys – 2002 – Went 4-12 (5-11 in 2001)
    Chiefs – 2007 – Went 4-12 (9-7 in 2006 and lost in divisional)
    Cowboys – 2008 – Went 9-7 (13-3 in 2007 and lost in divisional)
Bengals – 2009 – Went 10-6, and lost to the best team in the AFC (the only outlier as they were 4-11-1 in 2008)

  99. avatar reality jet fan says:

I hear you eddie. I just guess i like quiet winners. Like bb or peyton manning. And that doesnt mean i dont think that rex cant win it all.I love what he go this team to do.

  101. avatar reality jet fan says:

  102. avatar Mike24 says:

    Eddie-

exactly man…. I dont see why thats so hard for people to understand. Its called Coach-Speak. Usin the media to let his players know that he doesnt just hype them up in the lockerroom and that hes not affraid to let the world know he believes in his guys!!!

  103. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

    RJF

And that why even though I disagreed with you in some heated discussions…I still know where your heart lies

You want to believe but the Jets for some people, are like having a beautiful girlfriend with a great personality that you are madly in love with, but she cheats on you all the time…I get it

My point is, with this coach and young team, we have a 5+ years window for a Super Bowl…with the NFL the way it is, thats about all you can ask for

Who else am I going to talk down off the ledge…its part of our dynamic!!!!

You know your s#it dude, you just vent in a different way…we all are intitled to our opinions, I just try to rationalize it so maybe I can still help keep hope alive

    LOL

    Reality-

lol. I’m sorry man… Like i said no slight towards you on that one…
But for a few years i got caught up in tryin to stay on top of the Draft and all that stuff and all i came to find that was not only are these guys just guessing the whole time, but they also werent even close. Perticularly Mel Kiper and the entire Mickey Mouse crew over at ESPN. Believe me i’d love for some true insider info…but fact is these GM’s all talk in codes and leak ‘dis-information’ to throw people off their gameplan…AND after a couple wild card picks and trade ups, those MockDrafts just look ridiculous by the end of the first round.

  109. avatar reality jet fan says:

i WONT LET YOU DOWN I GET SOFT IN THE OFFSEASON.

  110. avatar kerry who? says:

guys im sure rex knows whats good with all the cameras around assuming he was there when they recorded the show back in 01 with baltimore. i would love to see this this country needs to be aware of who the next elite team is in the nfl

  111. avatar Mike24 says:

    Eddie-

nope not a football coach…. Some liitle league baseball coachin with my lil brother…. Just a sports nut!!! Lol

good for you tho brotha….would love to coach!!!

  112. avatar reality jet fan says:

Please no HARD KNOX! I want so called experts all picking the pats.

  113. avatar Tony says:

I think it gives too much info to your opponents. Play football and leave the Hollywood crap until after you win a SB

  114. avatar reality jet fan says:

I just want that f$%king superbowl to shut all the F&*king giant fans i have to listen too.

  115. avatar reality jet fan says:

Want to be a hard nose football team.

  116. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

    RealityJetFan

This is like a support group for Jets fans. Kind of like AlAnon…

So when you say “why the F@CK did the Jets do….” and I can say ” It makes sense from this standpoint… or “its gonna be okay as long as..”

Sometimes though, this team is going to need a kick in the @ss, and thats why we NEED guys like you…

  117. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

    Mike24

Yea dont it twisted though. I played small time college ball at Iona and Central Conn St…I coached at a small college in Conn and Ohio after I graduated…unfortunately, you have to move around alot and position assistants in college make no money

I own my own distibution business now and help scout teams for my old high school coach and coach my nephew’s team ( my brother is a suit-accountant).

Im no Lombardi but Ive been at clinics where Ive heard Belichick and Parcells speak to coaches before…swear on my life Ive met both of them

  118. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

Oh and Ive met Mike Sherman(Packers) and Dave Campo (Cowboys) to name a few- no name dropping though!!!!! LOL

  119. avatar Mike24 says:

    Eddie-

thats cool man….do whatcha can. Nobody can knock that. Thats cool you’ve met some pretty good coaches. I met a lot of football players but never any coaches really.
Feels good to coach up kids…but my schedule is all frigged up and just dont have the time available like i used to. Definitely again some day tho.

  120. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

    Mike24

Yea man…one thing about coaching is though…you dont have to be a great player to be a great coach…I dont think enough guys who dont play college ball get a chance to be coaches

Whether you get paid or not to do it, it is one of the most enjoyable and worthwhile activities a sports nut can do!!!!!!!!!

  121. avatar simplysimon2 says:

The Jets are the only team I’d watch on “Hard Knocks”; so, I want them there. So what if Rex and Bart are big mouths, sports is entertainment like Broadway or Hollywood. Football is like a jazz jam contest; each player getting a chance to “solo” on every snap, whether on offense or defense or special teams, someone shines with a block-run-tackle-catch-throw; Tha’s Entertainment, M-G-M style.

A behind the scenes look at these scene stealers, I’m there! I trust The Big Man to lose weight and decide whether to accept the extra show or not. I’d prefer to see it but I’m sticking with The Man.

  122. avatar BigKatt wants a ring says:

Football is like a jazz jam contest. And Rex Ryan is Jeff Coffin.

  123. avatar dakar says:

    BASSET…

i really would LIKE IT IF YOU MADE SOME KIND OF POLE…on wether we should have kept TJ,THE SIGNING OF lt AND IF WE SHOULD HAVE WENT ANOTHER DIRECTION…such as the draft or another FA RB…i ask only because…

The Jets seem confident he can, too, with GM Mike Tannenbaum saying the former Chargers star will play “a lot” for the Jets, calling him an “every-down back” more than once.

“We always say the best players play. He’ll play a lot. We expect him to play a lot. We expect him to touch the ball a lot,” Tannenbaum said. “We can’t sit here and say he’s going to carry it eight times or 28 times. I do know this. We’re going to run the ball a lot next year…just my thoughts…

  124. avatar BigKatt wants a ring says:

Everything that anybody types is just their thoughts… just my thoughts…

  125. avatar James in TN says:

no way, too much of a distraction

  126. avatar dakar says:

ofcourse it is BIGKAT…BUT THATS JUST MY THING…oh wait a mintue…were you mocking me…i feel so offended…lol…

  127. avatar Crystal Gunns says:

I would love to see the Jets do this the year Kerry was sent walking. That would be amazing!!

  128. avatar BigKatt wants a ring says:

    Not mocking, just saying. Ha.
And btw i think if we were to poll everyone on what the right move was now and then again in january, i think by the time the season is over LT is going to have tuns of support. And just curious, how would you vote and why?
I’d vote LT, i think behind our line, playing our Ground and Pound style, he is going to be the best #2 RB in the league hands down.

  129. avatar joethejet says:

how about we just fly under the radar like we did this year, remember when we lost the the steelers a few years ago,we came into camp and everyone was talking superbowl this, superbowl that, and we sucked so much,we only won 4 games that season,i rather no one picks us or talk about us until we actually win the superbowl.

  130. avatar dakar says:

between TJ and LT…im LT ALL THE WAY…

i liked TJ and think TJ was a good RB but became better because of our o-line…we all know LT is a great RB who’s only gonna prove every1 who says he done that he isnt …just my thoughts…

  131. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

    dakar

I love your “just my thoughts” btw…just my thoughts…lol

  132. avatar dakar says:

maybe i should change it to just my opinions…but that doesn’t as good as thoughts…

  133. avatar ramble914 says:

The Giants, Patriots, and Steelers wouldn’t do it, and they’ve pretty much won all the SB’s for the last deacde.

  134. avatar ramble914 says:

And I doubt the Colts would too.

  135. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

    dakar

It makes you sound like you are not a pretentious a-hole who thinks his opinion is written in stone…

It makes for good discussion and I dont think you should change it man…let em hate

  136. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

Yea No Hard Knocks this year…Id rather see them do it coming off a Super Bowl and Rex will still be the most entertaining guy to watch whether its this season or twenty years from now

  137. avatar dakar says:

    eddie

    thanks

  138. avatar dakar says:

shawn andrews was cut by philly today…maybe we can get him for depth…long shot but you never know…just my thoughts…

  139. avatar k.c. says:

I’d like to know what the other four teams thought about being on the show after it was over? Was it a distraction? helpful?etc etc.

  140. avatar jetfaninla says:

it’s the jets. don’t worry about how i know it.
