Jets Ask for More Film on TSU Safety Anthony Levine

By Bassett on 20. Mar, 2010

The Jets attended late round prospect Anthony Levine’s (Safety, 5-11, 193) pro day at Tennessee State who according to NFP is a “draft sleeper on the rise.” Levine had a good pro day performance, Levine’s

… fastest time in the 40-yard dash was 4.43 seconds, unofficially, and he bench pressed 225 pounds 19 times.

Levine also turned in a 4.05 in the short shuttle and a 20.97 in the 60-yard shuttle with a 35-inch vertical leap and a 9-6 broad jump.

Several NFL teams sent representatives to Nashville, Tenn., to watch Levine perform, including Green Bay Packers executive Reggie McKenzie.

Also spotted on the TSU campus, per our source: the New York Jets, Tennessee Titans, San Francisco 49ers, Cleveland Browns, New York Giants, Chicago Bears, Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Atlanta Falcons have been displaying interest in Levine, too.

The Jets, Eagles and other teams all requested more film of Levine.

Interesting, seems like someone the team might consider targeting on Day Three of the Draft.

It would be interesting if some team over values him drafts him in the 3rd or even 2nd round.

Some more info below courtesy CDS, I frankly had never heard of this guy before. Bassett, very weird to read “day three” of the draft.

    Overview
Anthony is a 2006 graduate of R.J. Reynolds H.S. in N.C. where he was named to the North Carolina High School All-Star West Team as a linebacker and was selected as an All-State kick returner/punt returner and an All-Conference wide receiver. He was also a member of R.J. Reynolds High School championship track team.

In 2006, Anthony played in nine games and tallied 26 tackles (12 solo, 14 assists. He notched three pass break-ups and three pass deflections and posted one fumble recovery for two yards as a true freshman. In 2007 he started 5 of 8 games he played in and tallied 21 tackles with 1 PBU and 1 PD. In 2008, he started 8-of-12 games played and compiled 34 tackles (20 solo, 14 assists), two tackles for losses (3 yards) and three interceptions. He also tallied two pass break-ups and five pass deflections and recovered one fumble. Made is his senior year his best in 2009 with 48 total tackles, 2 TFLs, 2 ints., 1 PBU and 3 deflections.

Late note: Put in a very nice Pro Day appearance…running his 40s in 4.43-4.48-4.53, putting up an oustanding 6.64 3-cone, a 9’5″ BJ, a 35″ vertical and 19 reps.
    Strengths
Thickly built and will attack the ball carrier. Plays bigger than he lists and covers ground. Uses the shoulder to jar the ball loose. Has a nose for the football and the knack for the big play. Has hands for the pick. Clever and careful in coverage. Football smart.
    Weaknesses
Not an elite athlete or cover man. Not a real quick-twitch pass defender. Runs a little hot and cold. Sometimes goes for the big hit when the guaranteed tackle is needed instead. A tad small for a box safety, but his pro day shows he could be more…
    Projection
Could go as high as round 6 with a better-than-expected pro day workout.
