As the Jets journey towards the draft in April, we here at TJB will be taking a look into prospects that could be on the Jets draft board. Today we will be taking a look at: Oklahoma State product, Dez Bryant [via NYDeaconFan4Life]

Projected Round: First
Measurables: Stands at 6’2. Weighs in at 220 lbs.
Positives: Bryant is very fast and is constantly balanced which allows him to attack the ball. He is excellent when it comes to jump for the ball — a very dangerous red zone threat. He has all the tools that allow him to block well. Bryant can locate the ball well and can adjust to poorly thrown passes. He has no issue boxing out defensive backs with his frame and his hands are almost always sure and reliable. He is usually willing to sacrifice his body and is very difficult to jam at the line. He is an excellent route runner and will be very aggressive when given his assignment. He can maintain good seperation and is very dangerous once the ball gets into his hands.
Negatives: Bryant won’t always put in the effort when blocking and can often hesitate at times. There have been concerns about his character.
The Bottom Line: Bryant seems like he will have a very bright future in the NFL however there have been some concerns with Bryant that have recently plagued him. While it would be interesting to see him in Green and White, I just don’t see it happening considering the Jets need a pass rusher and depth. Then again as I have said in the past we should never underestimate the power of Tannenbaum but I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for this guy.

YEAH I Requested this one!!!
His stock is falling to so its right on time. But I think the Cowboys might get if he fell into the 20′s.
Id love to see Bryant in Green and White not only because he would help out our receiving corps but because he can help Punt Returning To. -
I WANT THIS KID!!! He has serious skills. If he drops, I don’t care about if we need a pass rusher or safety. If he’s there, GET HIM!!
-
I like him too but didnt somebody say he was injured and / or required surgery? They say thats why his stock droped.
-
Couple the fact that Dez has a checkerd past and he now hangs with Pacman Jones it seems obvious Miami would be a perfect place for him…
-
Move up and get him… Irvin esq?
-
No, not Irvin esque….Bryant esque….Kobe.
-
He’s dropping because of his “Character Issues” not the foot injury..The foot injury kept him out the Combine but he’s all set for the Pro Day.
Big Tuna doesn’t believe in first round Receivers…
What do you think it would take to trade up to the 20th Pick? -
This kid is a special prospect. I had my eye on him coming into the season
-
Would the jets to grab him if he falls down to 20s and then worry bout passrushers/de in rd2
-
This kid looks promising.
But let’s remember that we have 3 years of tape on Brandon Marshall making plays against NFL competition. I’ll take the guy that has proven himself against the best athletes in the world, over the guy that looks promising against college level talent. -
After studying up on some guys this would be my 2010 draft.
1) Golden Tate- everyone wants to go defensive but this is the guy that can help Sanchez avoid any sophmore slump and is a WR that play’s like a RB and im sure Shotty would love to have this guy and im sure he is pushing for him.2) Reshad Jones- we need more competition at this position and Jones brings that, with B Pool one concussion away from retirement this guy would be perfect he’s tough has good range and brings the lumber unlike Rhodes did.
4) Mike Neal(trade up)- Everyone boasts about his strength and size and i think he would be a steal in the 4th and would fit in perfectly in a 3-4 D.
5)George Selvie- Can play the 3-4 OLB, he was once considered the best pass rusher in the country and was an all-american, rex can bring out the best of this guy.
6) Brian Jackson- he is a big physical CB many people see him as a FS, he ran a bit slow at the combine but he can play physical at the line which Rex loves

No way he derops to 29 .. and why trade up? .. think we all agree we need a pash rusher and depth .. so why give up picks to move up and get Bryant when – where we sit – we can get a decent defensive player ?
Still: Shonn Greene, Sanchez, and Bryant ..in one offense ?.. for a lot of years.. is exciting …

Ughh here we go with that depth argument again….Look a here Dez Bryant is a special player whom i would trade up for.Whats wrong with the depth we have now?
As long as we keep or Legendary 4th round pick this year (lol) Im all for trading up for Dez Bryant. Especially since The Jets like Greg Hardy who has shown in college to be a good Pass Rusher. -
Dez Bryant would be great, but do the jets really need him?
Him and Braylon on the sides, Jericho would then become slot. But why? Jericho has the surest hands on the team but he doesnt have the speed necessary to be a great slot receiver. Jericho’s best position would be complimenting Braylon at the 2. It would better serve the Jets if they drafted Golden Tate to play the slot. He’s elusive, extremely fast, and has surer hands than Bryant, if you can believe that. He also comes without the character issues that Bryant does come with. What’s the purpose of trading up for this guy if he has the possibility of bringing negative attitude to the locker room and when the jets don’t need him at that position. If he becomes the next Andre Johnson then so be it but thats highly doubtful. Just by looking at that highlight reel i could see that Bryant is not sure handed. Many of the throws that he caught he bobbled momentarily. How does that translate to the NFL? Where the QB’s throw harder and faster to their receivers… He’ll have more drops, and at the very least, while he may learn to adapt, he wont be as ready as everyone is making him out to be. He’ll have a good 1-2 years before he becomes a dominant player in the NFL. Not to mention that the QB of oklahoma st is not that special.
Compare that to Golden Tate. He had Jimmy Clausen as his QB… someone who many believe will be a premier quarter back in the NFL. He’s more accustomed to receiving for a NFL caliber QB than Bryant. He’s dropping as far back as the Jets to the 29th maybe even farther, he’s got better hands, he’s faster, and he is able to break a lot of tackles and also juke a lot more players. Not to mention his character is in check.
I’d love to have Bryant, but the Jets frankly do not need him. They need Tate a lot more and honestly Tate would be the most beneficial WR they could draft this year.

Dez Has Better Hands Than Tate.. Hands Down
(No Pun Intended)
Jericho has the surest hands on the team…EXACTLY wouldn’t you want your slor Receiver to have the best hands ?
Jericho can play the slot and still be condsidered the starting receiver…. -
I dont know if you can say that Dez has better hands than Golden. Different Qb’s. One throws harder than the other.
I think that any team that drafts Dez will have to wait atleast until week 12 to get consistent production out of him… maybe even further down the road. 1) He did not play most of this season, he will be rusty. 2) He’s not ready to play NFL yet. College and NFL are 2 different beasts. Some players have easier times adjusting because their team prepares them better. For example, USC players are so successful in the NFL because their coach prepared them both mentally and physically for it. I can’t say that the Oklahoma St. coach has similar success that that area. Whereas Golden Tate will have more success immediately and in the position he is used than Dez will, atleast for the first couple of seasons.
Back to Jericho. Yes i would want the guy with the surest hands on the team to play slot however part of being the slot receiver requires you to be one of the fastest players on the team. Just look at Wes Welker. Teams have the hardest time covering him just because they dont have a guy who can keep up with his speed and cuts. Sure, not every team has the luxury of having a player like Welker but Tate has both the speed and hands to emulate Welker’s style of play. Shipley as well, he’s just not as fast, however what he lacks for in speed he makes up for with strength. I can’t say that Tate can put a shoulder in someone and be able to knock them down and continue his run. Shipley can do that more effectively. Both would be extremely effective slots, Jericho would be something that the league more or less has become used to, a slot receiver with sure hands but not a lot of speed and not a lot of cutting ability. I’d rather have him excel on the outside on the other side of Braylon rather than have him streak across the middle of the field.
-
Yea Jericho isn’t Blazing Fast or make awesome cuts like Welker but he does get YAC which is the whole point of a Slot Receiver IMO.
I thought we were talking about Dez’s hands not how prepared he is to Golden Tate. If you can catch you can catch. Do you think that would effect who catches better? -
David, you must have never seen Dez play before
-
ALSO Golden’s QB is better than Dez’s so doesnt that prove my point?

One word: Warrior.
This guy will be great in the NFL..plays through injuries, great hands, good height, knows where the first yard marker is, can take a hit…he is probably the best all around wr coming out in this draft…
