WHERES Wolf At? I asked him are there any updates on Brandon Marshall To The Jets Yesterday and he never responded!!!
Brendan –
lol -
Wolf, on March 22nd, 2010 at 10:16 am Said:
Inside sources with the team. Same people who told me Ladanian chose the Jets a day and a half after meeting with them.
Obviously I will not disclose names on a fansite. From what I am hearing Tanny made them a solid offer about 2 weeks ago (our first round pick this year, picks in next years draft). This deal would
not include Edwards or JCo.Uhhh Im too pumped! The fact that we have two weeks until The Draft and Brandon Marshall Trade Talks Have Died…..Brandon Marshall’s Going to Be A Jet!!!!!
-
No way BMarsh is a Jet. We can’t afford him.
-
If Tanny Wants To Trade For Him Obviously We Can.
-
BigKatt we can afford anyone. Tanny is a cap genius.
I really don’t think that the Jets are going to bring in Marshall. I think they are going to dive into the RFA market, but I don’t see it being Marshall.
That being said, I won’t be surprised when it is Marshall.
-
But only until Fanny replaced the weakest link.
-
Mangold is certainly the goofiest looking anyway. Jeez, ever see a picture of his sister. Poor girl looks just like him.
-
No way we get Marshall. It’s another well timed Mr. T smoke screen.
-
Brendan, please explain how we can afford anyone when next year we need to resign the best center and cornerback in the league, not to mention one of the leagues best tackles?
-
The same way we were $30 million over the cap before 2009, if you listened to the “experts”, and Tanny had them not only under the cap, but far enough under to bring in a whole class of free agents.
Tanny can swing it (remember that Woody, Faneca & others are easy cuts to make that will save millions upon millions of dollars), just like he always can,.
-
Im not sure whether the people that say the Marshall trade won’t happen are people that don’t want it to happen or are just pessimists.
Anyone that honestly believes the trade doesn’t make sense from a football perspective are underestimating the value of an elite WR (or in our case it would be one elite and two studs).
If we want to win it all we need either an elite receiver or Mark Sanchez to become a top 3 QB. End of story. Until that happens, we wont win.
-
Mangold is the best center in football for the past 2yrs. And its not even close. According to PFF he is at least 2x better than the next closest center.
-
No way we’d be able to have the highest paid Lineman, D Back, and WR. No way, no way, no way.
-
BigKatt,
You know better than Tanny? You can do it when you’re paying guys like Devito & Pouha and other starting players not much $.
But you can be as certain as you want that the Jets can afford him, because obviously that’s not a concern for the team in regards to anyone.
-
Think what you want, it’s just not going to happen.
-
Hah I love people like you that speak in certainties when talking about the most unpredictable GM in the game when you have zero knowledge of what the team is doing.
-
The center has been the Jets best position for the last 40 years- Schmidt, Fields, Sweeney, Mawae, and Mangold.
-
And i love people that think BMarsh would be good for the Jets
-
how would marshall be a down grade?
-
John Z:
:Mangold is certainly the goofiest looking anyway. Jeez, ever see a picture of his sister. Poor girl looks just like him”….And she plays football almost as good as he does. Who do you think Mangold practiced against growing up?
-
Jeff:
Keep in mind that there is an up and comming rook named Alex Mack (also a Mangini draftee) that was twice as good as Mangold in his rookie year!!!
-
Hank,
She was also a junior heavy-lifting champion, definitely has some of big bro’s attributes that’s for sure.
And I don’t even think I need to say it….but I will….Mack is not as good as Mangold, ever. Rookie Mangold vs. Rookie Mack is a no contest. You don’t seem to realize it, but Mangold is this generations epic center. No one is coming close and Mangold has changed the way the position is looked at forever. Please hop off the Alex Mack train and get on Mangold’s, you’re going to be greatly disappointed when he doesn’t come close to Mangold’s career.
-
didnt mangold’s sister get with brady quinn?
-
Kind of a tradition with the jets, Fields, Sweeney, Mawae and now the best of them all Mangold.
lock this kid up with a contract for the next 10yrs !
-
JP,
Maybe you’re thinking of Brady Quinn’s sister marrying AJ Hawk?
-
Green Lantern-
I have a few questions: 1st is, how good of a source is Wolf? Sorry, i don’t know who he is. I just started reading this blog like a month ago but ive been a jet fan since i was like 7. Is he saying dat the jets offered all of that for marshall or is he saying that they offered their 1st rounder and also seperately offered picks from next year? If this is true then the broncos should have taken that deal because no one else is giving them a 1st rounder. Also, arent we allowed to just sign him to an offer sheet in which we would give up our 1st if the broncos fail to match??
-
Wolf seems pretty reliable He said he has sources that told him about LT and he called the LT signing.
Well we do have a 29th pick so it may be kinda hard for The Broncos are going to match any offer for Brandon Marshall because they wanted more than a 1st and 3rd.
As far as to why it didn’t happpen yet I don’t know thats why I was asking for an update from Wolf.. -
Ok thanks Green! I also asked Wolf to elaborate on the comments for another article, I will let you know if i find anything out.
-
Brendan:
s!!!!
You are wayyyyy ahead of youself, Brendan. Take a look at PFF rating Mangold in ’07 and Mack’s rookie rating!!!!Hes got Mangold beat by 10 performance points and that is not even Mangold’s rookie year, it’s his SECOND YEAR!!!
-
Bent:
I saw that. The only question I have is: Were his stats compiled over the 1st half or the 2nd half 0f ’07?
I mean the Jets were terrible all year, right?
-
Bent:
Thanks. Do you know where I can find his rating starting with ’06, his rookie year?
It would be interesting to see if it stands up to Macks.
-
Bent:
I will, and it will be interesting. However, you didn’t answer my question. Not necessarily snap by snap (PFF) analysis, but rating nonetheless. I’ve been lookng but to no avail.
-
Yea I remember Bill Parcells told Francesca that Mangold was the best center in the league as a rookie…
Brendan is right, Mangold is this generations epic center…
Mack is a good prospect but he still blocks on an offense that looks like they are trying to run plays in a box…or simply put an embarassment to offensive football
-
Wow, you think you’ve seen everything then you get the old Alex Mack is better than Nick Mangold…
Guess every coach and player who widely regard Mangold as the best center, and possibly offensive lineman on the planet needs to take a page from the book of Hank…
wow…just wow
-
Hank I think that was before anything like PFF or Football Outsiders had any metrics to measure offensive line positions. It’s more opinion than anything else.
I think Mangold had a great rookie year. He made all the calls pre-snap even then, but then had a rough 2007. It was probably the revolving door next to him more than anything, and Faneca has brought stability and leadership to the offensive line and Mangold has improved tremendously. He’s pretty much unanimously believed to be the best center in the game and he’s only played 5 seasons. That’s tough to say that player with a solid, not spectacular, rookie year is going to not only replicate, but surpass. Until Mack becomes what Mangold is, which a center who is the leader of the offensive line, it’s smartest player, with an ability to block a NT one-on-one, pass block, pick up blitzers, and basically do anything you could possibly want from a center. Mack may turn out to be very good, but if he ever reaches Mangold’s level then he is the #1 or #1A center in football.
-
I cant even believe how anyone could argue this…My brothers, cousins and friends, who are all Giants fans, all say the same thing “Yea Mangold is a beast, best in the league”.
Everyone knows this. Vince Wolfork has said the Mangold is the best center he plays against, not to mention the Parcells endorsement from Francesca, and the wide assortment of football media that widely regard Mangold as the best in the game…
-
Brendan:
No doubt Mangold is the best C in football!! I like him alot. From his demenor, to his love for football. How simple, down to earth he is.
That said, you have to remember the two guys he’s had along side (sans Clarke). That is tremendous assist and Mack had NO ONE this year. He did EVERYTHING with no help and for ALL 16 games. I don’t think he missed a snap all year (I don’t believe Mangold did that)!!!
And this is getting beat up daily for the first 6 months of his pro-football life by a MOUNTAIN of a man in Rogers
-
Hank going against a guy like Rogers (or Jenkins) is an advantage because not many guys are as hard to handle as them. That definitely played a role in Mangold making a jump last year. but Mack wasn’t anything special this year, so he has a long way to go before he’s going to pro bowls.
-
Who’s Disputing Mangold being the best Center in the league ?
Whoever it is needs to re-evaluate themselves and if their a Jet Fan….Lord Help Him. -
Brendan:
See, that’s exactly my point!! Don’t be too sure about that because as a rookie (a babe among men) he graded #6 among what 90-100? And that is absolutely with NO, ZERO, NADA, ZILCH help along side!!
At least Mangold had Mr. ALL WORLD (right Bent?) and Moore, and before Faneca he had Kendall. Not too shaby for assistants, eh? Who did Mack have, Steinbach? Only Rated possibly the worst LG in the league.
So for you to say Mack (as a rookie) wasn’t “anything special this year” is not only unfair but absolutely ridiculous on your part !!!
Sorry guy, but I believe is senseless to carry this discussion any longer!!!
-
“That said, you have to remember the two guys he’s had along side (sans Clarke). That is tremendous assist and Mack had NO ONE this year. He did EVERYTHING with no help and for ALL 16 games. I don’t think he missed a snap all year (I don’t believe Mangold did that)!!!”
Are you sure? Mack has Joe Thomas, who IMO is the best LT in the NFL. Eric Steinbach is no slouch either, maybe its because of the terrible QB play. But I remember he was a pretty good player in Cincinatti and his 1st year or 2 in Cleveland
-
Jeff:
What is it about “along side” that you don’t understand? I believe that means NEXT TO, or ON EACH SIDE!!!! Do I need to draw a picture? I even GAVE the NAMES of the those players that have a DIRECT influence on his play, geezzzz!
And as far as Steinbach, like I said, PFF rates him 83rd out of 84 guards in the league…..and he is not DEAD LAST (worst) because of .1 % point.
I suggest you read my comments fully before you comment on them!!!!!
-
Bent:
Thanks. Wasn’t sure if he did. Can’t take anything away from the guy. He is great all the way arround. They BOTH HAVE to be because they were both 1st rd picks by Mangini!!!!
I NEVER said Mack is better than Mangold, Just that Mack has as much upside as Mangold and has also started absolutely on the right foot.
Lets see what Macks second year brings if (maybe, just maybe) he gets some REAL help along side.
