Clemson OLB Ricky Sapp is meeting with the Jets today, and he is writing for his hometown newspaper about his draft experience. Here’s what he mentions about the Jets prior to flying this morning to Jersey.
On Tuesday morning, I am flying out to go visit the New York Jets. I am very excited because I have never been to New York and I am ready to see what all the talk is about. I leave from the Jets and fly straight to Arizona to visit the Cardinals. I’m extremely excited, but as quietly as it’s kept … I HATE flying. I HATE airports, but it’s something I’m going to have to get over real soon.
Rich Cimini of the Daily News spoke to a scout about Sapp.
Spoke to an NFL scout today who believes Clemson DE/OLB Ricky Sapp (6-4, 252) would be an ideal fit in Rex Ryan’s 34 defense. Said the scout: “He’s a pass-rushing son of a gun.” The Jets are picking 29th, and that might be a little high for Sapp, but he has the ability to drop and cover. That has to be appealing to the Jets.
Again, while I’d love for the Jets to get a better pass rush, I’d really also like to see them spend an early pick (i.e. starter) on DE. For the 2010 season, it seems that DE is the need more than the OLB. So, in my estimation using the 29th pick to grab an OLB with Pace, Thomas and Gholston over a pure 3-4 DE (where the team has Ellis and DeVito & Pitoitua) is something I wonder about.
Should the team trade out of the first round, then I’d be more inclined to see the team target Sapp.

Not on my wish list but wouldn’t hate it.
-
DE is DEFINITELY more of a need than OLB. No question.
BT and Pace is a lot stronger of a unit than Ellis and Devito. Love Ellis, but he’s gottabe on the slide, and Devito is an overachiever. If we can get a DE that can play the run and pass (rush and drop) equally as well, then I think we grab him, even if it’s a reach for our pick. Trading back is an option – pick up a pick or 2 to deepen our roster.
At this point, I tihnk it’s more finding the right players that fit the scheme rather than taking the BPA. -
Yeah I’m in the exclusive DE/trade back/best player available mindset myself. it seems he could do a bit of everything, which is good.
-
LJ,
Incorrect.
I’ll bullet point this:
-Ellis was a Pro Bowl DE last year, no slide that I’ve seen.
-Devito and Pouha were two of the better ranked DL in the league last year (source: http://profootballfocus.com/home.php)
-Rex carries at most 6, but usually 5 DL.
-Right now the team has Jenks, Pouha, Ellis, Devito, Pitoitua and Gholston (who is being moved to DE) who are likely going to be the guys suiting up on game day.
-Pass rush comes from the OLB’s not the DL and Thomas is not a good OLB.
OLB is by far more needed than a DL because the team needs to generate a 4-man pass rush. That happens with the rush linebacker (which Thomas currently plays, who is terrible at generating a pass rush).
-
It’s not the position need, it’s the skill – the Jets don’t need a OLB more than they need a DE, but they need a great pass rusher more than anything.
-
Anyone else get really PO’ed that our team screwed up on Gholston?
Reading about pass-rushing, 3/4 LBs has that affect on me..
-
Maybe they trade up from the 2nd pick to grab him but doubt we trade down in this draft(or anytime soon)
-
thomas need to go. he is a solid player but not for rex’s system. solid does not cut it a outside backer. you need playmaker there. the dl is set, maybe we add a guy in the later rounds for depth but thats it. i’mm calling it now your’ll se alot of pics go to the secondary and ol
-
i think they shoud do this
1.)odrick
2a)trade leon for early second rd pick. get jerry hughes/sergio kindle/ricky sapp
2b.) mt cody/shipley, mike williams(syracuse)/a safety
3.) trade to b thomas, clowney and late rd pick to cleveland and grab a safety/ol help -
Yeah, I think we all expect Ellis to slide soon because of his age but in reality, he hasn’t shown much sign of age yet.
That said, a young DE with similar size to Ellis would be ideal NOW because it would give that DE a couple of years under Ellis’ wing.
-
Brendan’s got the general idea, although I wouldn’t take PFF’s ratings as gospal at all. PFF is good for the unconventional stats they record but their rating system is flawed and really shouldn’t be taken that seriously.
And Gholston’s not being moved to DE either. There’s a difference between being a pass rusher with your hand in the ground and being a DE in a conventional 3-4 sense. The Jets really aren’t a conventional 3-4 team in a formation sense, just personnel. When Gholston started the first four games he had his hand in the ground about 80% of the snaps he played, but he wasn’t a “3-4 end” – he was a defensive end lined up and playing the role essentially of a DE in a 4-3.
The Jets can absolutely use an end, but I’ve got confidence they can take one anywhere within the first four rounds and he’ll be at least a key rotational player by his second year. This is a deep, deep draft.
-
on vacation but passrush is 100% the need. . . .and yes gholston bothers me even tho he hasnt killed us . . .yet!
-
I think he would be a good pick in the 2nd round. Number 29 is too high though imo. We only really have one really good pass rusher in Pace. BT is good against the run but doesn’t get to the QB very often. We need a player who can give us what Gholston was supposed to.
-
This kid aint going to be there when the Jets pick in the 2nd rd, this is a guy they will move up to try and get early in Rd 2…
Guy didnt have a lot of sacks in college but he basically disrupted almost every passing play…he gets some coverage skills and he can be a darkhorse stud at the 3-4 OLB
-
PFF only grades players on how well they do their jobs. The thing with Pouha and Devito is that they aren’t asked to do very much. Thats why why they are rated higher than guys like Wilfork, Ngata, Williams, Rogers, Ratliff, and Jenkins. They obviously aren’t nearly as good as any of those guys. I don’t think DE/DT is a huge need, however I don’t think bringing in a guy like Jared Odrick would be a bad move at all.
-
Dave,
I know PPF isn’t gospel, but I use it to show people that Devito and Pouha aren’t just “rotation guys” or whatever they’re being labeled most of the time.
As for Gholston, yes, he’s being moved to DE. 3-4 DE. 5 Technique. Whatever you want to call it, he’s not a pass rusher he’s changing positions and becoming a defensive lineman.
-
Brendan,
Where did you see that Gholston was changing positions? It makes sense though.
-
It’s been reported a lot, but mostly earlier in this offseason. The team is (supposedly) ready to abandon the Gholston-as-WILL experiment and let him just push guys around in the trenches. It does make sense since he is immovable for the most part and can collapse a pocket.
-
The Jets will do everything to try to move up for Earl Thomas. They are hoping that Leon signs with another team to give them extra ammunition.
-
Yeah the guy just doesn’t have enough moves to play OLB. You might be able to get to the QB by bull rushing everytime in college, but that isn’t going to work in the NFL. Hopefully VG at DE will work, but to be honest i’m really not expecting anything from him. He is going to need to gain a ton of weight though. He is probably going to need to get up to 285-290 in order for him to be successful at 3-4 DE. He is a gym rat though, so losing/gaining weight shouldn’t be a huge problem for him.
-
Not a big fan of Ricky Sapp. He gets pushed around in the running game and doesn’t have any great pass rushing moves. I don’t think we’ll draft him.
-
Sapp seems to be considered an early second round pick. Perhaps the Jets can trade #29 + Gholston and move down to around 36 -38; maybe one of those teams will be interested
-
Chris G
Yea, I guess the Jets just flew him up to NY for s#its and giggles
-
Rex Ryan basically made a new position when the Ravens drafted Terrell Suggs. I call it WILL/DE hybrid pass rusher to distinguish the Suggs-type of player from a regular 3-4, 5-technique DE, whose primary role in all situations is to occupy as many blockers as possible to allow the blitzing LBs to get to the QB or fill the holes at the LOS. I’ve said it early and often (as has Brendan), the Jets don’t have the classic pass rushing WILL and it’s been the Jets most glaring need since the change to 3-4. I was beating the drum for years that the Jets had to commit to a 1st round QB. Now that the Jets have checked that off, it’s time to get a Suggs clone and I trust Rex and crew to choose the right one out there because there’s lots of candidates, including Sapp, Graham, Hughes, Kindle and Griffin, who put on quite a show at USC’s pro day.
-
Jenkins can’t be relied upon, and Ellis is getting up in years. We shouldn’t wait until there is a noticible decline to address the most important unit in the 3-4, the DL.
My wish is for the Jets to move up to say #10 and take Dan Williams. We can put him a the other DE spot opposite Ellis, and when Jenks breaks down he can move over the the NT spot. This also has the added benefit of screwing the Dolphins because the desperately need a good NT, and will take DW with the 12 pick.
-
No way I want to pick him in the first. Second or later.
-
ramble,
Problem is that Jenkins and Ellis are still on the team and, when healthy, Jenks is a DPOY candidate. So, with Pouha, DeVito and Pitoitua (not to mention Rodrique Wright, Ty Steinkuhler and Matt Kroul) the Jets have 6 other DL and Gholston will get every opportunity to play DE. So, knowing that the Jets usually dress 5 DL, you have to admit that Jenkins, Pouha, Elllis and DeVito are givens and Gholston and Pitoitua will fight it out to dress. Trading up for Williams makes no sense because he might not play and anyone that is drafted in the 1st round, especially a guy you trade up for, should be on the field. I wouldn’t be hugely upset if the Jets draft Odrick at 29, it’s just that I don’t think DE is a “need” position because I like Pitoitua’s potential…and he is 6-8, 310 lbs, with room to fill out. Right now, after going through 2 Jets training camps, nobody can convince me that Ropati, who is only 25 and first picked up a football as a junior in high school, might be at this instant a better 3-4 DE prospect than Odrick.
-
I’m just happy other people are as excited about Potty as I am. I guess other fans won’t be until he gets in there and has a “statement game”, because apparently you’re not any good unless you’re drafted in the first two rounds.
Because Rex could pull some fatboy off the street and make him a good rotation guy, I just don’t see anything in Odrick that would make me think “man….the Jets HAVE to have him”.
-
I want to see VG attempt a semi-regular slot at DE. he is clearly a failure at hybrid LB. I just think we owe it to ourselves to see him exclusively at DE. I realize this may “waste” a position in the 3-4. But if he can get some pressure, he’d become solid trade bait or at least we recoup some value from this debacle.
-
Why cant Thomas and/or Gholston move to DE if they take a pass rushing OLB?
They mix and match much of the game in this defense anyway, and it seems they have plenty of run stoppers and no legitamate pass rush specialist.
-
Brendan,
We agree. Ropati is exactly the type of guy that develops into a bona fide NFL starter. He’s raw as hell, but he’s 6-8, 310 lbs and a beast. A guy like Odrick is a more finished product, but each season Ropati has gotten better. Like I tried to say, nobody can convince me that Ropati isn’t a better prospect than Odrick at this point in time. Very few rookies play the 3-4 DE 5-technique well. So, when you factor in Odrick’s learning curve, I think Ropati is the more NFL-ready DE. I expect him to dominate in pre-season and display that mean streak that we all wish Gholston had.
-
Sack,
Your relying on a guy who hasn’t played a full season for us yet, and just came off major knee surgery, and is 30 yo. Yes, when healthy he is phenominal, but we need our players to be ready and available in Dec., Jan. and hopefully Feb.
IMO, you can never have enough talented players on the DL, and I’m sorry Ropati is not worthy of discussion, nor am I willing to bet my season on him.
Dan Williams is 6-3 330 lbs. and athletic as hell! He was never not double teamed and still was dominant. This guy will be our anchor for years to come, and we need him now! Put him on the line as our other DE with Jenks and Ellis, then we have a prospect who will be gaining experience and with the eventuality of Jenkins going down we at least have a 2/3 of a respectable line. And I’m sure bteween Pouha and Ropati we will have a good DL. We just need to secure that by moving up for DW.
In addition to securing our DL, we also screw Maiami big time, because they Need a NT in the worse way, if available at #12 Miami will take DW. If we strike a deal with Jacksonville at #10, which is entirely possibel because Jville wants Tebow, just not at #10. They would more than willing to swap with us (terms to be announced) . So with that move, which I am hoping and praying for, we will have accomplished two things…making us strnger and making Miami weaker.
We need Dan Williams.
-
Also,
I’m not too worried about our pass rush, because we will be getting Adalius Thomas, who will play the Sam, thereby letting Calvin Pace move over to the Will! With that combination we’ll have a pass rush!
-
I’d be a lot happier using a 1st or 2nd-rounder on a hybrid rusher or a NT than on a DE. Big, physical DE’s are important in a 3-4, but not nearly as much as your primary pass rusher or your nose tackle. I don’t think there’s ever been a great 3-4 that wasn’t outstanding at one or both of those marquee positions. (From LT to Ware and Merriman, and Jim Burt to Ted Washington to Jamal Williams and Wilfork…) In fact, the closest any 3-4 has ever gotten without a stud at one or both of those positions is ours this past season after Kris got hurt, and only because of Rex’s genius, great play from the ILB’s and the best corner in football. I’d love to see what Rex could do if he had a Suggs-type rusher. I’m also fine with drafting a complement / eventual replacement for Jenkins – the big fella isn’t going to last forever, and as Parcells said, if you have a chance to snag a talented nose, you take it.
The 3-4 DE, on the other hand, is about being big, physical, and holding blockers at the line so others can make plays. It’s important, but there are a lot more guys who can fit that bill than great rushers or great NT’s.
-
im sorry if what im trying to say doesn’t sound clear…i am on some very heavy pain meds for my back pain…so please bare with me…
i agree with brendan here…
even though we have alot of money invested in our LBs i still think its the best move to make…take our loses with VG and get some1 in here who is worth the money…our 2nd pick then should be to get D-LINE help…
i dont really think taking a safety in the 2nd is needed as much as the D-LINE…ESPECIALLY if we might have the best CB tandem in the NFL…if we can get to the QB alot qiucker with a real pass rusher then an average safety will look like an all pro…there you have it…i think the most 2 inportant picks we have should go for a OLB pass rusher and a DE/NT that can help us stop the run and get to the QB…
the rest of our picks should be for a slot reciever,RB, CB,and a SAFETY…and a whole bunch of undrafted players…i wont be surprised if the jets go with 3-4 RBs a game…and become the ultimate running team in NFL history…thats if they decide to go without the slot reciever…just thinking outside the box here… anyway, just my thoughts…
-
p4p
i agree…i would rather take a NT over a DE…and we really dont know what our 6’8″ pitoitua can do… hopefully he can become 1 of the best in the game…just my thoughts and a little bit of wishful thinking…
-
Dakar,
Remember the problems we had with solidifying our NT positon until Jenkins was obtained? Now I agree, when healthy, Jenkins is unstoppable, but he can’t be relied upon! We need to have a viable replacement for the NT position. I don’t think we can expect to catch lightning in a bottle twice in two seasons, meanig Ropati, and Pouha won’t get exposed.
As I stated above, I don’t think our pass rush will be that bad, but to not be able to control the LOS is unthinkable.
-
James in Tenn,
Help me out here, how dominant was DW at Tenn the last few years?
Anyone else can go online and look at all the video of him, he’s amazing, and another like him might not be around for a while.
-
ramble914 – My gut tells me the Jets won’t trade up this year, but just the opposite…I see Tanny trading out of the 1st round to make up for the lack of a third rounder in a deep draft (not to mention save some cash for the FA next year).
-
This is what i think about our D, by position
DB: Rex loves corners. #1 and #2 is already take care of. Revis is the most athletic, mot dominant, and Most Valuable Defense Player in all of football. Cromartie was a probowler when he played in a style of D similar to Rex’s, no reason to think he can’t get back to that level. After that it gets a little shaky. I hate Lowery with a passion, But i think our other CBs, in particular Marquice Cole, have a lot of upside. However, I fully expect Rex to draft a corner in the later round, and possibly bring in a vet during camp.
FS: Pool, Digs, and Smith are all good football players, but wouldn’t call any of them quality starters. If we can swing a deal for Eric Berry, i would do anything i could to make it happen, except trading core guys. I not sure that will happen though. If it doesn’t, then I’m pretty sure we’re going to take a saftey in round two. We should have a great pool of talent to chose from. I hope we get Rashad Jones, but i’d be happy with C. Jones, Allen, Burnett, etc. I think that a position we need to bring a young guy in to learn exclusively from Rex, to mold into the next great saftey.
SS: Jim Leonard is my boy, and he’s one of the key players on our D. I hope he’s our starting SS for years to come. Smith and Digs are both capable backups at the position.
DL: I think our current line does not get enough credit. I guess a lot of people want to resign douglas or draft a guy like Odrick to play right end, but i think the platoon of Potty/Devito with VG coming in on pass rushing situations would be great this year. Potty is HUGE. I think with another offseason of coaching and some more playing time, he came become Ryan’s next Haloti Ngata. Devito played way better then i expected and should continue to play at that level. Vernon could really breakout of his shell this year as a DE. It’s what he did at OSU in the big ten, a conference that always produces top talent at LT. I think Rex will finally be able to maximize Vern’s skills him as a 3rd down pass rusher. Jenk Daddy Jenks will back at NT, which is going to be huge for this D. Especially for Bart and DH. Him and Pouha should combine for a great year at that position, against the rush and pass. And of course we have Sean Ellis at LE playing at a pro-bowl football. No need to worry about drafting his replacement, because Sean Ellis is not human. He has super strength and he ages far slower then mortals. He’ll be playing for probably the next 20 to 25 seasons.
ILB: As a former MLB, i f—-ing love Bart Scott and David Harris. They are no doubt the best pair of inside backers in the league. Guys like Patrick Willis, Jon Beason, and Demeco Ryans, all get a lot of attention as up and coming LBs, which they totally deserve btw, but a lot of people fail to realize how special DH is. Obviously no one on this site does, but this year i think Harris is going to become a household name, especially with Jenks coming back. I think Fowler is an adequate backup, and i’m sure Westerman/Laury can step in if needed. No need to use a draft pick here.
OLB: This is what we need. The one piece (besides maybe FS) this D needs to become elite. A PASS RUSHING OLB! I love BT, he’s been with us a long time, but we just need more production form that spot. I think we’re gonna sign Adalius Thomas, but i also think this is where we need to commit our first pick, weather it’s moving up for Graham, staying at 29 for whosever left, or moving down if they think a guy Rex likes is going to hang around. I love Calvin, i think he’s going to be great at Sam this year. We just need a play maker at Will. We have good enough depth that if we want to use BT as trade bait, i’m all for it.
Leon: this is a special category, because if we can move Leon for a pick, which i’m totally behind doing, we could use that pick to slide up the boards and grab an impact player like Berry or Graham, even Dan Williams, Mike Iupati, or Dez Bryant. If Rex falls in love with any of these guys, like he did with Sanchez, Tanny is going to do anything he can to get him.
Whew…. That being said this is the Ricky Sapp post i’m commenting on. I think he wouldn’t be a bad pickup in the second, and an even better one if we can get him by moving back into the third.
-
Holy cow that is a huge comment. That’s like a whole post itself.
-
ramble…
i really dont want to trade up this year…unless its using next years draft picks…then i wont mind…
if we can manage to make such a trade into the top 10…i honestly will use the pick on the best defensive player available at the OLB or NT positions…then use our 2nd 1st round pick on the best available player at the OLB or NT position…use our 2nd rounder on either chad or rashad jones…i know our defense will be set for years if we were to make such moves…our defense will become a hell of alot better then last year…
then use the rest of our draft to pick up a slot reciever, RB, CB and O-LINE help…and bring in a bunch of undrafted players…
see what im saying…finish building our defense then put the finishing touches on our offense…just my thoughts…
-
Dak,
To trade up to #10 will probably cost us next years first round pick, but I’d do it! Dan Williams is that good.
-
Besides next year could have the lock out.
-
Bent,
You mean OLB?
-
BubbyBrister/shovelpass!!! hahhahaha, your name is hilarious! Cant believe you chose that as your name out of all things and the fact that you actually remember that.
-
ramble…
but thats what im saying…if we can do it then i wouldn’t mind doing it at all…
if we can get williams hughes and either of the jones in this years draft…that right there will be the best defense that ever step on to any field in the history of the NFL…thats a defense that can win a SB for us…
no doubt in my mind…i do have a question…
if a player is in their last year of their contract this year…and play it out…would they be able to sign with another team or are there gonna be restrictions on the player…just in case there isn’t a lock out next year…
-
bent…
thats why i like and respect you…your rational and you never insult a person for their lack of knowledge for the rules of the game…i never read or got into the rules side of the game…never cared for it…but your the man…
but,no wonder why there will be a lock out…players will be getting dupped left and right…
therefore,i really wouldn’t mind using next years draft to get who we want and need in this years draft…a sell off…next years draft for this years talent…and build a SB team this year and win it all…2011 will most likely be a lock out…players will rest for a whole year… hopefully football resumes in 2012…and go for the SB again…just my thoughts…lol
-
Well it sure is fun to speculate, but as we know with Tanny, anything is possible. It’ll be a fun ride.
-
im really interested to see what Westerman can do he played great in little time. (remember that fumble recovery when he was running and was caught from behind because he was looking back lol) But anxious to see him in camp this year. He might surprise us. WE HAVE A DEEP TEAM.
-
Yea I’m with you War Mac. I like Westerman and i think he might be good enough to start. He’s definitely good enough to be role player and will also be alot better than Gholston!
-
Hughes then Worilds then Kindle then Sapp.
-
Wait, Bassett, let me get this straight. You look at these two units:
Pace, Thomas, Gholston
Ellis, DeVito, Pitoitua, maybe DouglasAnd the former is clearly the better unit to you? I just don’t agree. Plus, in the 3-4, an OLB, especially a WILL, is inherently more valuable than a DE. I’d love to get Sapp at 29. DE is a minor need IMO.
-
those of u wondering here are the prospects that visited the jets facility
T Anthony Davis Rutgers DT Corey Peters Kentucky
RB Montario Hardesty Tennessee OL Maurkice Pouncey Florida
CB Kareem Jackson Alabama CB Patrick Robinson Florida State
RB Ryan Matthews Fresno State OLB Ricky Sapp Clemson
CB Devin McCourty Rutgers TE Mickey Shuler Jr. Penn State
DL Jared Odrick Penn State S Major Wright Florida -
ramble,
There’s lots of problems with trading up for Williams. First, no DL has been worth a high draft pick since Ngata. High bust potential. Second, as long as Jenks and Pouha are around, another NT would not play much. Trading up for contingency depth is a waste. Third, I’m not convinced that Mt. Cody isn’t the better NT prospect. As I’ve said before, get Rex, Pettine and Sal Alosi to work with him and by 2012 he could be a stud and the Jets don’t have to trade up to get him. I’m much more willing to take a flyer on a project with great upside like Cody at 29. Lastly, I’m pretty certain that Ropati is ready for more NFL reps and judging from Rex’s indifference in re-signing Douglas, maybe he is, too.
Bent,
Didn’t Pace rush from the weak side a lot? His strip sack of Painter came from the WILL. I’m pretty sure Pace would play WILL and AD would play SAM. But, that’s no reason not to get a Suggs-clone. AD isn’t getting any younger and the best combo would be Pace at SAM and the Suggs clone at WILL. AD is a great placeholder until the rookie matures and the rookie could still come in on obvious passing downs.
Whatever happens, I do think a high quality player will be available at 29.
-
Why does everyone keep acting like Adalius Thomas is a Jet? He isn’t and after he get cut, IF he gets cut, I’m sure we won’t be the only team after him. Its an uncapped year and AD doesn’t have any ludicrous bonuses due to him. Belichek could just keep him on the roster making sure we don’t get him. The impact would be minimal. I think we need to go forward making assumptions based on him NOT being with the Jets, just in case…
-
Like Coleman said, everybody needs to stop acting like Adalius is surely going to be a Jet because we don’t know. I also think that he is highly over rated on this site! I rather just keep our Thomas over him, Thomas is a good player who gives it his all and makes the tackle. He might not be a sack machine with 2 sacks but Adalius isn’t either with his 3 sacks.
-
And i still say draft Hughes with the 29th pick!!!!
-
Sack,
Cody a better prospect than D. Williams? Not even close. The bust potential is there with every first round pick. If DW is the better player, he’ll start. IMO, he would beat out Pouha.
We can’t rely on Jenkins anymore, if he’s there fine, if not we better have a backup plan, because without a dominant NT, we are sunk!
-
Adalius Thomas or Jason Taylor???
http://www.ganggreennation.com/2010/4/7/1409276/jason-taylor-a-jet
-
ramble,
Not true. We didn’t have a dominant nose tackle for 9 1/2 games last year and had the best defense in football. I also think Cody is a better prospect. You can’t teach size, and he’s as big as they come. Who better to teach him how to take care of himself, prepare for the season, etc. than Big Jenks himself?
As for AT vs. Taylor, as much as I hate to say this I’d rather have Taylor.
-
My preference is not going to be popular, but I hope they draft Kyle Wilson if he’s available. I think he’s a great value at 29. He can start at nickel and push the Father Figure for a starting job. Given the team that Ryan is building, we can’t have too many corner backs or running backs.
-
ramble,
Sure, the bust potential is there for most picks (but, some positions are “safer” than others), but your talking about trading up and for that risk the guy better be a “can’t miss” prospect or a QB. The risk of trading up for DW to me out-weighs (pardon the pun) the difference between Cody and DW (if there is one). Plus, what your talking about is depth at NT and either DW or Mt. Cody would be the 3rd string NT (behind Jenks and Pouha)…I’d rather stay at 29 for a 3rd stringer.
-
get arthu jones from su in the later rounds

Either Him In The 2nd or Eric Norwood in The 4th and Im Happy With Our Pass Rush….
