Breaking: Santonio Holmes Traded to the Jets

by Bassett on April 11th, 2010 at 11:41 pm

santonio-holmes1.jpg

According to multiple sources online tonight, the Jets have traded for troubled Pittsburgh Steeler WR Santonio Holmes (5-11, 192) to the Jets for their fifth rounder, pick number 151 overall, in this month’s 2010 NFL Draft.

Holmes was a first rounder (25th pick) in 2006 for the Steelers and had his best season in the pros in 2009 with 79 receptions, 1,248 yards and 5 TDs.

He’s been something of a thorn in the Steelers side for some of his off-the-field (thrown glass at a woman, marijuana possession, dropped domestic violence) antics, but from what we gather, he’s a good teammate, and is still getting better at the game, most recently used by the Steelers as a competent slot/burner receiver. A guy like that is a guy that the Jets could use well in their current offense, moving around quite a bit – valuable when you consider that the team already has Jerricho Cotchery and Braylon Edwards.

For a fifth rounder this is a steal. I have to imagine that the Jets are throwing back some compensatory pick in 2011 back to the Steelers depending on Holmes play or contract status. Holmes has issues (we’ll get more into that tomorrow) but the Steelers are clearly sick of his act, and as far as we know at the present time, went bargain basement shopping.

Jenkins, Sheppard, Cromartie, Edwards … the Jets are making hay in terms of adding talent to their roster at minimal cost due to player’s status with current teams. Too many teams value draft picks too highly in our estimation, and the Jets have found a way to get better off other teams.

More analysis here on this right here on TJB tomorrow morning.

UPDATE: There have been rumors that Leon was part of this deal. While possible, Leon would have had to sign his tender to become part of the trade. Signing his tender might have raised some flags from the league office already, and of course would mean that Leon would be agreeing to the less than $2.0 million tender. It’s possible he’s part of it, but we’ll have to wait and see what the new day brings.

Cheers to our man Corey Griffin who tipped us off to this bit of news.

  7. avatar Alex says:

    amazing trade. Tanny strikes again!

  8. avatar Jake says:

    Omfg, I’m amazed. Now we need a pass-rusher, a nickle-corner and a depth at the D-Line and we’re goooood !

    Superbowl, here we come!

  9. avatar ronnie says:

26 yr old, in his prime, outstanding athlete, etc. for a 5th round pick. Are you kidding me.

If Cromartie & Holmes didnt have the off field problems, they would never be traded and it would take 1st round picks to get them.

  10. avatar iJets says:

    confirmed w/ Francesa… unbelievable!!!!

Cannot wait for Draft / training camp / start of season!!!

  11. avatar Cip says:

wow. steal for a 5th. Gotta love the aggressiveness

  12. avatar JetMetVet says:

F ing awesome !!!! Filled another need .. Preps us nicely for draft !!

  13. avatar revisisland says:

WOW!!! Tanny is a genius!! he amazes me with every move!

  14. avatar adornoj1 aka JetFan in Miami says:

it just went from 6 to midnight 8====D. Let the Tanny doubters speak!

  15. avatar ronnie says:

Mike Tannenbaum runs the Jets just like any of us run it when playing Madden. U gotta love it!

  16. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

Mike T once again gets a super talented player who had minor off the field issues for a bargain price…

Santonio, Bray Bray and Jco in the slot…how can you not be smiling ear to ear

Now The Jets can go in ANY direction they want in the draft…

Wont be able to play with Jets in Madden 11, Ill put up 70 pts a game with our offense

  17. avatar blee says:

is he gonna be suspended a couple games next season?

  18. avatar revisisland says:

Forget Dez, Benn, Thomas, Tate, Shipley…
    We have Santonio!!

  19. avatar J Roc says:

So much upside. With Holmes and Edwards only sign through next season the front office could choose to lock-up the receiver that develops the best rapport with Sanchez, or both.

  20. avatar Frank Cip says:

Mike Tannenbaum for sainthood. . . anyone??

  21. avatar nyj2010 says:

OMG another day another steal- we are unbeliavble!

  22. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

I dont wanna hear any BS PSL crap…

The Jets try to get people to buy PSLs by fielding an incredible football team with a great coach…nothing wrong with that

  23. avatar jets17 says:

    a steal!!!! tannenbaums a boss

  24. avatar The Real RK says:

Have you ever seen a GM wheel and deal like this guy? He’s amazing. I want him running my fantasy football team next year

  25. avatar Gang Green says:

this is unreal!!! what a move by Tanny…man i cant wait for football to start

  26. avatar Jets baby says:

I called my friend who is a steelers fan and he was just shocked.. a fifth round pick for this guy is a complete steal. Amazing move

  27. avatar cmonleon says:

I hated tanny for a month now cuz of him torturing us with leons future but a move like this really makes me soooooo giddy I can’t help but love him all over again. Our Offense doesn’t need anything except depth at o line now its all D from this point out. I’m crapping my pants right now

  28. avatar nelson17 says:

Now it makes it likely for Tanny to consolidate the picks and move up and get two good players that they target. Most likely a DB and DE

  29. avatar Jimmy Shnoogen says:

Wow, now THIS is what Mr. T had up his sleeve… What a great acquisition!

  30. avatar Dknyj says:

Who is playing Slot in 3 WR Sets? Cotchery or Holmes? – gotta be Cotchery right?

  31. avatar Joe B. says:

TANNY IS A BEAST!!! Braylon, Santonio, Cotch, Keller, dare I say we may have a passing attack that rivals our running game, provided Sanchez develops more consistency.

This team is looking more and more monstrous on paper. What a steal!!! I had a rough day and needed this badly. OPENING DAY, WHERE THE HELL YOU AT????

  32. avatar revisisland says:

What has Tanny’s best move been? Revis? Harris? Favre? Sanchez? Cromartie? SANTONIO??

  33. avatar dan says:

If this was madden the steelers wouldnt accept a 5th round pick for holmes. We just robbed them madden said so.

  34. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

So what if he s out first 4 games…so was Calvin Pace and he wound up having a great year for us…we were good without Santonio, now we are rounding into championship form

  35. avatar D$ says:

This is just sick. Love the trade.

  36. avatar algreenspam says:

OK, I guess someone’s gotta throw just a little water on this. Yes, a fifth-round pick is a small price to pay, but Holmes a) is a complete knucklehead, b) is only signed for one more year, and c) costs the Jets yet another selection in what is widely regarded as the deepest draft in many years.
That means that instead of getting a younger, cheaper and most likely less knuckleheaded player for years to come, the Jets get one suspension-shortened season of a guy who, as I believe I might have mentioned, is a complete, well, doofus.

  37. avatar Green Lantern says:

    LEGGGOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
OH MY GOD TANNY BEST GM EVER!!!!!

  38. avatar MLB Matt says:

I think im going to throw up I’m so happy

  39. avatar Cip says:

steal for a 5th. gotta love the aggressiveness in recent years

  40. avatar Max V.V. says:

I LOVE OUR GM. I LOVE OUR COACH. I LOVE OUR TEAM. SUPER BOWL CHAMPS 2011.

  41. avatar Jay says:

Mike T is without a doubt the most underrated GM in the NFL. With the exception of Gholston (which was a Mangini pick) everything he’s done nothing but make great moves for the Jets. Drafting, trades, FA signings. Tanny is one hell of a GM

  42. avatar Dknyj says:

Francessa: “It could work or it could BLOW UP, they are doing a lot of weird things right now….”

WHAT? It’s so obvious he can’t swallow our future dominance… I LOVE IT.

  43. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

Tanny is the best GM in football…he finds diamonds trade for us while risking almost nothing

Ill be dreaming of Jenkins, Mangold and Brick struggling to carry Rex on their shoulders after the Super Bowl

  44. avatar Big Lou says:

After last season the jets have shown its our time. Holmes, cotchery, edwards, keller, with L.T. and greene. Mr. T for god

  45. avatar cmonleon says:

Trade up now for berry and make a superbowl run woooooooooo!!!!

  46. avatar Ryan says:

Crazy! Tanny must be close with the Steelers management because I feel like if ALL the other teams knew he was available for a 5th rounder someone would of offered a better pick than that! Go Tanny! I NEED THE SEASON TO START VERY SOON!!!

  47. avatar JetMetVet says:

I wanna hear the Pittsburgh side of this.. Just seems to good to be true.. Who contacted who ? Sounds like those recent charges were dropped or not pursued against holmes ..

  48. avatar Jay from south Florida says:

Love the trade OMG for a 5th round pick now we just need a pass rusher!!!! Can’t wait for the season to start!,,,, Go jets!!!!!!!!!

  49. avatar DAHEADCHOPPA says:

I really feel like crying……Now go Draft Cody!

  50. avatar AL says:

This is the fourth player Tanny has acquired with 1 year left on their contract since last year Sheppard,Edwards,Cromartie,Holmes.

Anyone want to venture a guess why so many vets with 1 year left on their deal?

  51. avatar sexy rexy says:

    WOW….just WOW.

  52. avatar klecko71 says:

algreenspam…. he is 26…… we aint exactly trading for a greybeard….

cant say a negative of this deal is “not getting younger”

come on man…. and the guy might not get in any trouble for what happened…. a 5th rounder… and we decide which one we keep out of him and braylon…. not bad….

and not getting cheaper doesnt matter in an uncapped year….

  53. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

I dont care what Fat Mike Francesca says…

I watch football just as much as he does and I have Sunday Ticket

Santonio Holmes is good, I know it, we all know it…

Steelers had to trade him with the Big Ben incident and Santonio is more expendable than Big Ben at this point…plus with a potential lockout no way the Steelers would shell out the money for Holmes…so they got something for his services

  54. avatar War Machine says:

    lollllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll lmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
    MAN I LOVE BEING A F%^*ING JET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  55. avatar Jason says:

Id say this puts an end to all the ground and pound talk being the only way the Jets can win. The Jets are putting a ton of faith in the QB next year. This is an incredible set of passing weapons between Edwards, Holmes, and Cotchery and LT out of the backfield. It also gives the jets great options in 2011 for re-signing one of the two big names to keep a good group of wideouts in the fold. I love the move. Steelers must think that Holmes is going to end up out of the NFL due to off the field troubles to trade him within the AFC to a contending team for such low value.

  56. avatar JetMetVet says:

NFL network is covering this now …

  57. avatar BigKatt says:

Wow wow wow wow. A 26 year old Superbowl MVP for a fifth rounder? Give me some of what the steelers FO is smoking.

Question: Where does our WR corps stack up against the rest of the league? Maybe i’m still high off this trade, but i would put us right up there with the saints, colts, and pats.

  58. avatar dtrain says:

does anyone realize that our 5th would of prob went to some D1AA talent who would be a special team player? steelers fans are rightfully sick right now

  59. avatar jetfaninla says:

we just got a former super bowl mvp for a FIFTH ROUND DRAFT PICK.

It’s a deep draft, but 5th round is 5th round. Holy crap!!!!!!!!!!! Great freaking trade!!!!!!

  60. avatar War Machine says:

I BET JAYSON TAYLOR SIGNS NOW !!!! LMAO

  61. avatar JetMetVet says:

4 game suspension likely they say ..

  62. avatar Andy says:

This move came out of left field. I love it! What a steal. Nobody saw this coming or had any thought about this. This kind of is along the same page of filling holes early before the draft, and being able to get the best player on the board rather than trying to fill a void. Great move!

  63. avatar joe c from ct says:

    Marshall Anyone? Great Job Tanster!!

  64. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

    algreenspan

Was Holmes a complete doofus when he made some of the most clutch catches in Super Bowl history…or that he has never had lower than 800 yds in a season???

Guy is good, made a mistake on a team that is filled with lawsuits, Steelers made an example of Holmes and we benefit from it

  65. avatar Dylan says:

Unbelievable!!! Tanny has made a ton of incredible trades, but this might be his best trade ever!!! A 5th rounder?!!!! All you Tanny haters seriously need to stop talking!!! Un-frickin-believable!!!!

  66. avatar Fobi says:

i really wonder if tanny has some incriminating pictures of some people or something in order to get what he wants…lol, what a great move

  67. avatar LukeV says:

Great news! Does this spell the end of Clowney or what? And also, hopefully the end of the Brandon Marshall discussions too! I know Santonio isn’t as dominant ad BM but for a fifth, how can yoou possibly complain!!

  68. avatar Revis Christ says:

    algreenspam
yeah this guys has minor off the field problems but he is only 26 and he is a beast…. and a 5th round pick was prob gonna go for a wr anyway

  69. avatar klecko71 says:

joe….what do we need marshall for?????

    come on man….think….

we dont trade for him, we use what remaining picks we have on our other needs.

i think WR is pretty well taken care of??!!!?!??!!??!!?

  70. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

Rent Santonio Holmes for a 5th rd’er one year and it could BLOW UP???

…the worst thing that could happen is it doesnt work out and the Jets move on not owing him anything past this year…

You know what, the Jets would rather pay a proven Super Bowl MVP playmaker WR than a 5th rd’er for ONE YEAR…

Give up Fransceca you sound like scorned girlfriend

  71. avatar joe c from ct says:

Marshall, Holmes, Edwards, Cotch, clowney, Lt, Lw, SG, MS This is crazy

  72. avatar Neil says:

Gud-blarmint!!! I just tossedout my #10 Jets jersey last week in a spring cleaning. Maybe Holmes will wear some other number and I won’t feel so bad.

  73. avatar JgS says:

We are stacked. That’s my only reaction to this right now. Now let Trader Mike do his thing on draft night and we’ll be ready to roll!

  74. avatar RDubbs says:

Let me put it this way … Shamma-Longa Ding-Dong !!!

  75. avatar joe c from ct says:

    oooops I forgot smith

  76. avatar EastSide (Sanchez to Sanders TD!) says:

This is a trade in the vein of the Patriots acquiring Randy Moss for a 4th round pick.

    HEY BILL (PARCELLS, BELICHICK, BUFFALO)!
BETTER DRAFT A CORNER THIS YEAR!!

  77. avatar jet phan says:

This is an absolute steal, Jets are going to be flipping sick this year

  78. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

    dtrain

Great point…thats what the Jets are thinking

A sticking point in the CBA is the enormous money these rookies make without proving anything on the field…

The Jets would rather know what they are getting and I dont blame them…in fact I love it

Hey let Franscesa cry til the cows come home, anyone who saw the SportsNation poll knows the rest of the United States is on notice…Jets are coming baby!!!!!!!!

  79. avatar Mike says:

I love Mr.T he is never satisfied with the team and is always going out and getting great players for low value. Jetttsssssssssssss all the way!

  80. avatar algreenspam says:

Yeah, I’m not really against the deal — how could any reasonable person be? It’s a very low price for a potentially very high reward.
All I’m saying is that this move is not without risk, and even if this particular season is uncapped, presumably future seasons won’t be, and if we keep Holmes, it’ll be at a much higher price for the next 3-6 years than whatever a fifth-rounder would have cost.

In general, I wonder if the Jets’ habit of trading away draft picks will come back to haunt them — but maybe that’s because I live in DC, and you can only guess which team I’m thinking has a somewhat similar M.O. (But clearly a much worse F.O.)

  81. avatar MEL31602 says:

This is a great move- similar to idea of Brandon Marshall trade (which I was against) but for MUCH cheaper price it’s worth the risk. Yes he is likely going to be suspended for four games but with Braylon and Cotch that shouldn’t be much of an issue. Only question is who gets demoted to third WR now but I guess that’s a good problem to have. And now no WR with first round pick thank goodness

  82. avatar joe c from ct says:

    woowww!!!

  83. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

Id take Holmes over Marshall rigth now…

I know Holmes has what it takes to dig down come playoff time and get a ring

Marshall never proved that he could perform on the big stage like Santonio can

  84. avatar ronnie says:

There are some rumors circulating that Leon may have been part of this deal….it hasnt been reported by a credible source but its gaining a lot of steam on twitter.

  85. avatar St. Tannenbaum says:

Tannenbaum is ridiculous. He robbed the Steelers, completely. What are they thinking ? I understand getting rid of him but just throwing him away. Unbelievable. Mark Sanchez is one lucky son of a gun.

  86. avatar Monster#57 says:

besides Cody, Kyle Wilson, Odrick and maybe Griffen have we brought in any other projected first round D players?

  87. avatar Dylan says:

    HILARIOUS!!!
Look at what Chad tweeted at the commissioner.

OGOchoCinco @nflcommish Mr. Goodell the NY Jets are unfairly loading their team up with great players like the Yankees do, we need to stop this now!

  88. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

    Mel31602

I think Holmes will probably be the # 3 being that he will probably be suspended a game or four…but who knows depending on how camp goes

Holmes is SOOOOOOOOOO versatile, he can run those reverses Schotty use to love…oh wait, I dont know if that is a good idea

  89. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

    Dylan

I was thinking the same thing…Woody just needed Rex to turn him into George Steinbrenner!!!!

    AND I LOVE IT!!!!!!!

  90. avatar War Machine says:

if we draft Berry can we sign Santonio next year ??? i know he he is gonna want money. I would rather stay where we are or draft down. lmao i want him long term. Dont take our toys away. I feel like a kid. lol

  91. avatar Revis Christ says:

even if he does get susspended for 4 games we still have a beastly running game and a decent receiving game with bray bray jco and keller i think we can manage four games … not to mention our d

  92. avatar sexy rexy says:

    @ Dylan

Wow I usually hate Ocho Cinco. That comment just won me over.

  93. avatar JetMetVet says:

I think the X factor here I’d the expected suspension for holmes. NFL network was reporting that there will likely be a 4 game suspension thrown on him for drug possession/abuse.

  94. avatar Clownpuncher says:

Good move for a 5. If he can clean his act up it will be a stellar move.
The extra 4 games off will just give him time to learn the playbook. =)

  95. avatar HOZ THE JET says:

we made out like bandits once again much respect to trader mike.

  96. avatar sexy rexy says:

    Ronnie

that kinda steams me a bit if Leon is part of it, but you know what…Sanchez is supposed to be the Franchise QB so he should play like one, and plus Greene, LT, and some solid player from the draft maybe a Jahvid Best would be pretty sweet.

  97. avatar HOZ THE JET says:

the 4 games suspension is not official

  98. avatar WW85 says:

How did the Steelers not shop this around? %th rounder is ridiculous. There must be more to it.

  99. avatar Harvlis says:

I don’t know how we got this guy for a fifth rounder. Tannenbaum is amazing. The other day, I said that our off season moves were possibly setting us back. This changes everything. This move helps us so much. We don’t have to draft a WR in the first two rounds. Tanny can concentrate on building our defense for the future. You know Tanny is going to pull off a monster move in the draft. I think ownership liked being in the playoffs. You gotta love this.

  100. avatar Jason says:

Clowney really sounds down based on his Twitter page. I think he just realized he lost his job once Holmes’ suspension is over.

  101. avatar SackDance99 says:

A GREAT move. Holmes is a bona fide deep threat in the prime of his career. IMO, this sets the Jets offense. In 3 WR sets, either Cotch or Holmes can play the slot and with this many vertical threats, the middle of the field will be wide open for Keller. Not to mention, this just made 8 in the box very risky because Edwards, Holmes and Keller all create separation. If Leon comes back healthy, the Jets are now stacked on offense with playmakers. My only worry is whether Sanchez is ready for the training wheels to come off. If he can complete 60% of his pass and cut down those INTs while increase TDs, the Jets O could be explosive. WOW, the Jets are going all in for a Super Bowl run and I love it!!!

  102. avatar Phrenitis says:

Is anyone worried about team chemistry? Serious there are too many personalities on this team. Something is bound to happen. Rex better be on his P’s & Q’s

  103. avatar Patrick From The Bronx says:

Found out a half hour ago now i can’t sleep. I feel like a kid waiting for X-Mas morning. WEEEEEEW

  104. avatar Jeff says:

Trader Mike strikes again!!! He is unstoppable!!!!

I wouldnt be surprised with a trade come draft time

  105. What a “Steel!!!”

  106. avatar revisisland says:

Darrelle Revis quote: Wow we got holmes this is crazy. We makin big moves this off-season. Putting the pieces together to get closer to that superbowl ring.

  107. avatar Drack says:

with this addition, what does the jets collective rap sheet look like now? edwards…ellis…holmes…who else am i missing?

  108. avatar jleonhard says:

phrenitis how is there to many personailites on this team>? the team chemistry was good last year except for rhodes and we got rid of him i dont get how adding holmes and lt changes the chemistry

  109. avatar bilal says:

I’ll just cosign what sack said and add another WOW!!!

  110. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

I dont know how they are going to suspend him for 4 games though

He got caught with some weed…once

The abuse claims were bogus by chickenheads… first charge was dropped and someone else already confessed to throwing the glass that struck the woman most recently

These guys like Holmes and Cromartie have two choices here- play like they are capable of or become irrelevant players who dont get paid…and if they dont play good or do stupid stuff…the Jets are not on the hook past this year

To me, again, its classic Tannebaum low -risk/ high reward

  111. avatar JetMetVet says:

Leon association here ? I really hope not… I would think that the sources from NFL network would have reported that key addition.

  112. avatar Revis Christ says:

    Drack
pace got susspended for 4 games last year for peds … atleast we dont have as many rap sheets as the Bengals

  113. avatar Ed-pro says:

    ProFootballTalk (twitter):

As to rumors that Leon Washington was traded to Steelers as part of Holmes deal, Leon can’t be traded until he signs his tender.

  114. avatar gbrown says:

    lets goooooooooo

  115. avatar Green Lantern says:

If Leon is Involved Ben Tate 2nd Round.
If He Isn’t Leon for a 3rd rounder to the Lions or better yet the Texans 2nd Rounder!

  116. avatar jets17 says:

Can we play around with putting Cotch and Holmes in the slot n viceversa

  117. avatar Dylan says:

I say the Jets use their 1st and 2nd to trade up for Berry now that we don’t need another WR. We are set at that position now. Edwards, Holmes, Cotchery, Keller, LT, Leon, Smith, and Clowney. Unbelievable! This team is absolutely LOADED on both sides of the ball.

  118. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

For years I watched this team under Terry Bradway make the safe moves…no big time talent

You know what that got us, some good guys to root for that you knew could never stack up against the super talented teams

Now with Rexs infusion, the Jets are trying to build a super power of great talent, and for the first time since 98, I truly believe we can win a Super Bowl…

Let the haters hate my fellow Jets brothers, we know what kind of team we have

  119. avatar HOZ THE JET says:

all sources said it’s straight up with just the 5th no leon…

  120. avatar Drew says:

Fantastic move…the one thing, however, I am concerned with is Jerricho. As much as I’ve loved him throughout the years, he is really not suited for a “slot” role in our offense…a slot guy is someone who can create separation, who has breakaway speed and big-play potential. Jerricho is the exact opposite, a possession wr who can be relied on to keep drives going with key first downs. But great job, Mr. T!

  121. avatar HOZ THE JET says:

does santonio holmes have a twitter?

  122. avatar Monster#57 says:

    hey Eddie

agree now we should get younger and not sign Taylor??!?! (watch because i post this Woody will announce tomorrow morning Taylor signs)

  123. avatar EastSide (Sanchez to Sanders TD!) says:

“Is anyone worried about team chemistry? Serious there are too many personalities on this team. Something is bound to happen. Rex better be on his P’s & Q’s”

There were 53 personalities last year and barring a major change to the league’s structure, there will be 53 next year. The leadership is there, the discipline is there.

  124. avatar JetMetVet says:

Eddie- “chickenheads”- nice… Chappelle show was highlighting that word last night.. Hilarious..

  125. avatar Jets-Fan-4-Life says:

    WOW…OMG….Mike T your awesome!!!

  126. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

Pure football standpoint this trade is a steal…gotta get Santonio some Valium or Xanax from a Dr to ween him off the trees!!!!!!!!!

  127. avatar EastSide (Sanchez to Sanders TD!) says:

We STILL NEED DEPTH as we continue to look at this year’s extremely talented (and deep) class.

That said, if Eric Berry slips past the first ten teams to pick, we must consider trading up.

  128. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

    Monster #57

If Rex wants Taylor…so do I

  129. avatar Dylan says:

Braylon, Holmes, and Cotchery can all play on the outside or in the slot. I think the Jets might have the best receiving corps in the NFL. No other team has THREE legitimate #1 receivers. Thats just crazy…

  130. avatar sunsetmusic says:

WHAT!!!!!!!! Ru kidding me!!!! Amazing!!!!! YES!!!!!!!!!!!!

  131. avatar BigBear says:

    Sounds awesome!!

Tanny is going to have fun trying to resign so many great players….Hope we have room for everyone going forward.

Will be curious to see what Tanny does with extensions. Santonio and BE both up next year. My guess is that both are not re-signed to large #1 WR type long-term contracts…Not with all the contracts we need to do to keep our core intact (Revis, Mangold, Harris, etc) Cotch signed for couple more years.

  132. avatar SackDance99 says:

Why should Holmes be suspended for the latest claim? Some woman claims he threw a glass that hit her. The police have investigated and it looks like Holmes won’t be charged because someone else admitted to throwing the glass. Of course, the woman has a civil suit pending…that’s our judicial system. So, Holmes goes to a club, somebody else throws a glass, a woman decides to bring suit against the deep pocket, and the NFL suspends him for 1/4 of the season? There was no gun play, no brawl, just an incident at a bar. Even if the glass was thrown by somebody in Holmes’ entourage, unless Holmes told the guy to do it, and there has been no allegations of that, why should Holmes get a 4-game rip?

  133. avatar klecko71 says:

florio is some kind of douche…. wow.

way to get the negative column up in record time…

As the New York Jets welcome Super Bowl XLIII MVP Santonio Holmes to town, they should be very concerned about how much of him they’ll actually see.

Given our report from Saturday that Holmes is facing a four-game suspension for violation of the substance abuse policy, the move means on the surface that the Jets will have to prepare to perform without Holmes for the first 25 percent of the 2010 season.

It also means that, if the suspension sticks, Holmes will be one false move away from a one-year suspension.

Assuming, based on his history with marijuana (and his recently stated intention to “wake n bake”), that Holmes’ violations flow from an inability to quit smoking pot, he could become the NFL’s next Ricky Williams — a guy who loves weed more than he loves playing football.

If that’s the case, it’s unclear whether the Jets will see much of Holmes on the field at all, in 2010 or beyond.

wow…….probably likes tiger woods commercial also….

  134. avatar sexy rexy says:

I usually think Florio is a deuche, but he may actually have a point. Holmes suspension is coming from something, and they never did confirm what it was. But BOY o BOY I think I have a new favorite WR. Lets just hope everything works out, and he plays this year.

/watching the heck outta his youtube highlights.

  135. avatar JayM says:

Steeler fans are in disbelief that they only got a 5th round draft pick for Holmes.

    WTG MR T

  136. avatar Daniel says:

    I CANNOT BELIEVE IT!!!

    Mike T. for Prez!!!

  137. avatar sexy rexy says:

Man Santonio Holmes plays like he can’t be broken. Just keeps on going. I am so pumped.

/perfect video to describe his playing style

  138. avatar War Machine says:

hey Drew what about Wes Walker???

  139. avatar Johnny Reefer says:

    f***in amazing.

  140. avatar SackDance99 says:

Oops, my bad, he’s facing a drug rip for his second offense…mandatory 4 games.

  141. avatar phil says:

love the value…..is marshall so much better that he commands a #1 pick while santonio goes for a #5? i think not and tanny prob needs to get exec of the year……if the jets win the sb he’ll prob be our most desired commodity lol……….but the best part is what ochocinco twittered to the commish, courtesy of tim graham, “Mr. Goodell the NY Jets are unfairly loading their team up with great players like the Yankees do, we need to stop this now!” ………….lol ocho is wise

  142. avatar phil says:

oh and i expect the jets to move santonio around like the steelers did and i see him getting more reps in the slot then cotch…….i also see bray lining up in the slot and stretching the DEEEEEEEEP middle

  143. avatar SackDance99 says:

Florio’s a jerk, but if the second offense is for weed, Holmes may have a problem. But, the Jets get him for 12 games and if he doesn’t shape up, Holmes doesn’t get a new deal. And, if he is clean and the Jets are satisfied that he is, because he’s damaged goods, he’d never get a contract commensurate with his skill level. For a 5th round pick, Holmes is a low risk, high reward acquisition.

  144. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

    SackDance 99

    Exactly…no fire arms

Everytime a guy in the NFL goes anywhere, some skell can make some bogus claim and the country will call the guy a “problem” or “troubled”

Ive been out with buddies who had a few too many and all of a sudden, the shet hits the fan…and I had nothing to do with it. We all probably have

Unless you plead guilty or get convicted of a crime, the NFL shouldnt have anything to say about it

  145. avatar JayM says:

Ochocinco begs NFL to stop the Jets

@nflcommish Mr. Goodell the NY Jets are unfairly loading their team up with great players like the Yankees do, we need to stop this now!

    ROFLMAO

  146. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

Holmes should get the same deal Ellis got- 1 game suspension for the weed charge

  147. avatar dakar says:

excellant trade by tanny…now all we need to do is finish building our REX RYAN DEFENSE through the draft…then go win a SB…rex and tanny are becoming a perfect team…

  148. avatar HOZ THE JET says:

boy i can’t wait for the 1st episode of hardknocks……

  149. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

    Sack

I think the drug charge is his first offense… wasnt it just this year???

  150. avatar dakar says:

    drack

lolol…that was some funny azz shhiitte

  151. avatar SackDance99 says:

    Eddie,

Nope, he got a weed possession charge in 2008.

  152. avatar Monster#57 says:

    eddie
he got in trouble in 08 for weed also and missed a game

  153. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

    Sack

Did he get another one this year too?

  154. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

    Monster and Sack

    Thanks guys

    Oh yea…its 4 games

  155. avatar HOZ THE JET says:

just got finish watching santonio holmes highlights even though he’s great in the slot but he has #1 receiver type abilitys and by the way he is 1 hell of a punt returner as well….

  156. avatar Monster#57 says:

it really shouldn’t impact much tho, like you said earler. this offense has all the weapons to fly around the field and put up crazy numbers. So for the first four games he misses we get to see greene and LT get even more yards for the team or more yrds for keller

  157. avatar cmonleon says:

Please o please tell me we didn’t give up ?eon that would really put a bad taste in my mouth about this trade along with opening another whole on offense

  158. avatar Johnny Reefer says:

    soooooo sickkkkkk

i love being a jet fan right now.

  159. avatar cmonleon says:

Steelers fans are friggan pissed right now. Patriot and dolphins fans are crapping themselves right now

  160. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

Leon is not involved in the trade…he has not signed his tender yet and cannot be traded

  161. avatar HOZ THE JET says:

trader mike is the man i just got off the dolphins blogs and them dudes is funny LMAO….they said who in the hell is the GM of the jets ripping everybody off like this it’s hilarious

  162. avatar Jets baby says:

Man, on paper our offense is really stacked.. It’s all on Sanchez now, we will go as far as he can take us.

In the playoffs I remember the headlines were saying two rookies (Sanchez, Green) Carry jets in playoffs.. With a Rex Ryan D, and this offense this could get pretty.

  163. avatar Ryan says:

its not completely unheard of for a very talented receiver to be traded for what looks like a too good to be true deal. Remember the Pats got Randy Moss for a 4th round pick. Hopefully it is just Santonio straight up for a 5th rounder

  164. avatar Rizzo says:

I think what this means is that they will let Braylon walk after this year and sign Holmes to an extension

  165. avatar michael says:

Agreed, it’s really all contingent on Sanchez’s performance at this point. He’s got the number one D (which will probably only get better through the draft), a great running game, a premier offensive line, and now all the receiving weapons he could ask for.

  166. avatar HOZ THE JET says:

not for nothing if we get jason taylor we can do what ever we want in the draft it feels so good being a jet fan and boy we are going to be so fun to watch.

  167. avatar Jets baby says:

    It already got better..
    Cro, Pool, Jenkins

  168. avatar AKA....Drew says:

    OMG….. unbelievable

  169. avatar Le' Sean Roberts says:

What the hell? Tanny is like the desert fox, General Rommel.

  170. avatar JayM says:

    Tweet From Revis

Wow we got holmes this is crazy. We makin big moves this off-season. Putting the pieces together to get closer to that superbowl ring.

  171. avatar cold_old_steelers_fan says:

I am hoping there is more to this trade than just a 5th rounder or the FBI will be at Tanny door talking to him about interstate larceny.

You guys just got a great receiver albeit with a bit of a smoking problem and an upcoming suspension.

I haven’t made it all the way through this thread but his new nickname in Pittsburgh may well be Bluntinio Holmes (blame Vin K at BTSC).

  172. avatar MaxJets says:

Trader Mike strikes again! Santonio Holmes for a fifth rounder…what a STEAL. How does he do it. I think the Steelers must be in a panic mode given the bad press on two of their star players and decided to “let” Santonio go. Mike for NFL GM of the Year. Here is the beauty of all these trades…Most of the newly acquired trades have a year left on their contracts which means they (if they want a “fat” future contract ) will be playing the very, very best they can. It also means without a doubt we are making the most serious run at the SB since 1968. It’s 2010-11 or bust. A couple of additional points: 1) Leon can’t be part of the trade because he hasn’t signed his tender. 2) Even if Holmes is suspended for 4 games – it is much much better option than anything we could’ve draft at 5th. 3) Please, please stop all this talk about drafting Berry – we do not have enough draft picks value wise (even if we still had the fifth pick) to get Berry unless other signed Jet players are involved. GO JETS!

  173. avatar JetMetVet says:

I’m thinking the CB position just received a little more priority on the Patriots draft board.

  174. avatar Le' Sean Roberts says:

What is the STEELERS thinking behind this? Hines Ketchup struggles to get off the line of scrimage, has lost his speed, while Limas Sweed is too bloody inconsistent.

  175. avatar Dylan says:

The Jets have three numbers one receivers! All we used to get them was a 3rd, a 4th, and two 5th round picks!!

  176. avatar Dirty#6 says:

I’d rather have a WR that smokes weed, than goes out to clubs wih loaded guns. Plus do you really think he’s just started smoking the gonj? I’m sure he was smoking when he won a ring, so who gives a sh**. Mike Florio was just angry because he couldn’t get all the sand out of his vagina.

  177. avatar St. Tannenbaum says:

Cotch is not a number one receiver. BUT, he will fit perfectly in the slot now. This allows all three receivers to shine. Sanchez is pretty lucky.

  178. avatar k.c. says:

I SWEAR that Mike T is putting a GUN to these Gm’s heads to grab these quality players for literally NOTHING! Getting Santonio “superbowl MVP” Holmes is a FU#%ing STEAL! Way to go Mike. And WE still have a decent amount of pics. Great Great move…very exciting!

  179. avatar boozer says:

Now Ellis and Santonio Holmes can hit the bong together!
The T-Rex machine keeps getting better.

  180. avatar Le' Sean Roberts says:

So, what’s Cotchery or Edwards situation ? I would be nervous. Holmes in border #2-#1 WR.

  181. avatar EastSide (Sanchez to Sanders TD!) says:

    The SANCHEZIO Era?

  182. avatar AKA....Drew says:

Robbing teams like the Bears for TJ and the Browns for Sanchez are one thing but Mr T just humiliated the damn Pittsburg Steelers…..

  183. avatar Daniel says:

    Le’Sean,

I don’t know why they settled for so little, but they still have very solid options like Hines (slow but somehow consistent), Wallace, and Miller.

  184. avatar JetMetVet says:

I just wanted to get the name “Matt Jones” in this thread for old times sake. Hehe, sorry.

  185. avatar mike s. says:

Great move. This move lets the pieces slide into place and should allow the offense to put up enough points to compete with the elite. With Holmes and Edwards on the outside, Cotchery can slide into the slot where his skills can be most effective.
If they can sign both Edwards and Holmes beyond 2010, this offense should be potent for years to come.

If NT Cody is available at #29, he is the pick. Developing a young monster behind Jenkins will help anchor this defense for years. But I suspect Tanny may need to trade up ahead of San Diego to get him, given the loss of Jamal Williams.

  186. avatar Daniel says:

To someone who asked earlier (not sure if it’s been answered)

    Santonio’s twitter is santonio10

  187. avatar cmonleon says:

I’m worried about leon the jets got elam to sign a new contract minuets before they traded for sanchez its possible they did it again. I’m reading pats and dolphins blogs and there saying they would rather see holmes over leon any day. We really need leon he’s a huge peice to our offense and special teams that puts us over the top in my mind

  188. avatar James says:

There is no truth to reports of Leon Washington being included in the #Santonio Holmes deal. #Jets

    http://twitter.com/NYPost_NFL/status/12031127229

  189. avatar dakar says:

this team is set up for sanchez to be successful…and the pressure is on him from now…but its not really him im worried about…im worried about shotty overthinking and calling bad plays and making very bad decisions…like he’s done in the past…just my thoughts…

  190. avatar WW85 says:

I would be shocked if Leon is not part of this. Holmes is worth a 2nd-3rd rounder. 5th is ridiculous. I hope I’m wrong & the Steelers are morons.

  191. avatar dakar says:

maybe we threw VG in the deal

  192. avatar Shane L. says:

Man idk what to think about this. Seems like everybody on here is pumped about it, my initial reaction was bad but now that I think of it they really didn’t give up much so if it works out great, if not who cares. If Leon was involved in this I’ll kill someone. They need to trade their 1st and maybe Leon up to get Berry, then take a pass rusher with the 2nd rounder and then they will be retardedly stacked.

  193. avatar WW85 says:

Steelers are nuts or they know something we don’t If Tanny had traded David Harris for a 5th rounder, we’d string him up by his b…s. Steeler fans must be calling for blood.

  194. avatar sexy rexy says:

    Boozer
“Now Ellis and Santonio Holmes can hit the bong together!”

That’s awesome. I’m just playing that scene out in my head.

  195. avatar Jets baby says:

IF VG was part of this deal.. WE would also have to include our 1st and second rounder this year, Revis and mangold and we may have a chance to get rid of VG

  196. avatar Le' Sean Roberts says:

I think This really 5H!T5 up my idea of the draft…….actually. it should make it easier. Most likely its defense or OL. Now there’s a really good chance Tanny will be trading picks. Don’t want Dan Williams, he may be the most overrated DL. There are different types of NG……you have the Jamal Williams’ where they don’t use power and have quickness, would just hold up the middle. The Jenkins type, that is strong, powerful and deceptively quick. Then our former old boy Jason Ferguson, not really big but extremely strong with great technique….impressive. I’m not sure how to classify Cody or Cam Thomas.

  197. avatar jetsfuel69 says:

Would this mean a now possible trade for Brandon Marshall. I am sure Denver want it no part of Edwards on a possible trade but now will make more sense for ether team. Both players are in need of new fresh start and Mcdaniels could deal better with Holmes than marshall. well, as long as Leon is not trade it I would be just fine with ether one. Go jetsssssssssssss, se you at the Super Bowl

  198. avatar jameson says:

I wonder if we don’t trade Leon to them for a 5th round draft pick once he signs his tender.

a gentleman’s agreement, if you will.

  199. avatar Dylan says:

Eric Berry or Earl Thomas will be a Jet. The Jets already said that they want to draft someone who can contribute right away. This team doesn’t have one hole. Its ridiculous how loaded this team is! Berry in the secondary would be crazy. If you think about it, practically EVERY SINGLE starter on this team has Pro Bowl potential. Its crazy how good we are. Tanny is a freaking genius! We have the best O-Line, linebackers, secondary, and wide receivers in the NFL. We have a future Pro Bowler in Greene, and arguably the best NT in the game. I can’t think of a team that was this loaded before the draft. Its just insane.

  200. avatar NJets says:

Leon… if you dont want to play for this team… GOODBYE

This train is moving on with or without you. Either get on, or youre getting traded for some more picks. Enough is enough.

  201. avatar GREENBLOOD says:

    Awesome Santonio !

  202. avatar Edwin says:

What a trade!!! Tanny strikes again! With Jason Taylor on the horizon this looks like gang green’s year. Dallas here we come!

  203. avatar Ben Nevis says:

I can’t believe it! This is not only a low risk/high reward trade. With Holmes, Braylon & JCo, the Jets now have one of the most potent WR cores in the league.

  204. avatar JetMetVet says:

“I hope this trade is what we thought it was.”

  205. avatar jetsfuel69 says:

I just finish watching Holmes highlights, man I think I’m dreaming, the guy is awesome.

  206. avatar JetMetVet says:

These Leon conspiracies have me a little concerned…

  207. avatar Dylan says:

    Bassett,

The Jets can’t give away a compensatory pick. Those picks are awarded to teams by the NFL using some crazy formula. I think the picks are only awarded for players lost in free agency as well.

  208. avatar War Machine says:

Anybody wanna see some old vids on the jets this past year i would strongly suggest going to youtube. It brought back memories of our magical year. Also just got finished seeing some vids on Leon and Santonio on there. Leon was ESSENTIAL in our screen game.

So was STUCKEY. That guy was a gamer man. Santiono will be great in the short passing game as well as the deep. Just put the ball in his hands and he is a human video game.

  209. avatar geoff says:

i like it, just dont forget about cotchery, thats sanchez’s security blanket. i must say we are trying to get the peices, and i figure sir bart scott will keep em in line along with rex and his ways. good times. no-one knows if this will work but give er a whirl

  210. avatar broward says:

how do you gameplan against the jets offense now…..teams are going to have their nickel corner or a safety on either holmes, cotch or braylon…..and whos gomna cover LT out of the backfield or keller releasing off the line….i have always been an optomistic fan but this team is insane….jif jason taylor doesn’t sign now I would be very surprised….if he wants a super bowl this is where he’s gonna get it……….so pumped I been reading the same articles for 2 hours now….cant wait to rub it in some fins fans faces tomorrow at work

  211. avatar geoff says:

there might be a secret handshake here regarding leon. i think its time leon and his agent figure out the lay of the landscape.

  212. avatar ron2473000 says:

WOW….that’s all I can really say without losing it!! All it takes now is putting all this talent to work and Rex bringing all these guys together on the same page and draft for success and the only way we fall is if we do it to ourselves which I doubt very much.

If this move doesn’t put us another notch higher as of the teams on the rise to win the SB according to all the tv critics I will lose my freaking mind!!

  213. avatar Le' Sean Roberts says:

    Keller might really disappear now.

  214. avatar War Machine says:

Leon will be traded. All these guys have to be signed next year. Cro Bray Leon Brick Mangold Holmes and Revis . I rather keep all of them and lose Leon…

  215. avatar miketaliaferro says:

I wonder if HBO was behind this move??? :)

Does anyone else get a slight patch-work, Frankenteam feel to this roster at the moment?

This should make Rexy ecstatic however. It means that they can get nearly ALL defensive guys in the draft next week, short of a b/u OL or RB.

  216. avatar joel says:

what do ya think of the following trade to get a good safety who can contribute right away?

    1) Trade with Detroit Lions (they don’t want to spend too much money, esp considering they put so much into their previous picks)

Lions get Jets 2010 1st, 2nd and 4th round picks, 2011 1st round and Leon (when he signs his tender) and Vernon “busted” Gholston.

Jets get Lions 1st round pick and with it, they take Berry (although it is somewhat too high for a safety, but he’ll definately be worth it and be able to contribute right away)

    OR

    2) Trade with Raiders for their #8 pick.
Raiders get 2010 1st and 4th, 7th round, 2011 1st round and Clemens (he has said he wants an opportunity to start in the NFL and this is the best for him to get that chance, esp with russel and gradkowski and front runners), Gholston and Leon.

Jets get raiders 2010 1st round and with it they take Taylor Mays (i think with some coaching he will be even better than berry).

whatdoyathink? any chance tannebaum pulling something this big off?

  217. avatar Ian DeMartino says:

I would have felt good about our chances if we just stayed put during the offseason, but now Cromartie, LT, (possibly) Jason Taylor and now Santonio?! This is insane!!

  218. avatar geoff says:

we will be front and center all year. this is where rex will earn his check.

  219. avatar War Machine says:

no way in hell we would take BERRY at # 2. If anything we would get Sue and we also cant afford that pick

  220. avatar sunsetmusic says:

Joel, thank god u are not the GM….lol

  221. avatar Jimmy Shnoogen says:

    Joel,

I don’t think the Jets plan on moving up into the top 10 this year because they have a lot of players whose deals are expiring within the next two seasons or less, or are due a new, more lucrative deal based on their performances (i.e. Mangold, Revis, D’brick).

Plus, especially in this year, your proposal suggest the Jets giving up a lot of draft picks in this years draft. I think you might see the Jets move a few players to acquire more picks, due to the fact that they only drafted three players last year.

But then again, Trader Mike is shrewd as all hell… who knows!?

  222. avatar TannyVision says:

I love the aggressive approach Mike T has taken this off-season. Tumultuous, but possitive. I’m glad to see that the jailhouse jets are on the prowl once more. Should be fun to watch.

Does anybody else think that Mr T might have misinterpreted Woody when he was told that he had a new state-of-the-art rehab facility,at the new complex, at his disposal?

Now all we need is a front 7 player who likes hitting qbs more than women, and we’re set!

  223. avatar TannyVision says:

Perhaps Tanny follows Florio’s Turd Watch, picks out a player to his liking, then pounces.

  224. avatar jetsfan0906 says:

the thing that doesnt bother me about getting these guys with “character” problems, is that they arent of the violent kind, were not signing gilbert arenas or plaxico burress anytime soon lets put it that way, they all seem to be correctable issues

  225. avatar LMP23 says:

This makes up for not getting anything for Brett Favre.

After 25 years of watching the Jets I could never understand why this organization never could figure out what it took to put together a winning team. After watching NE & Indy go from mediocre to multi year SB winners the Jets still didn’t get it. FINALLY IT IS OUR TIME!! This team is going to be sick.

  226. avatar Mike24 says:

    Yesssssssssssss!!!!!!!!

    “……And the Holmes…of the…..JETS!!!!!”

cant effin wait to see what we do in less than 2weeks on draft day baby!!!

  227. avatar CCDC says:

My only concern would be that both his contract and Braylon’s contract are up at the end of the season. I don’t think Mike T can pay them both. That might cause Braylon to start being an unhappy camper. Either way, it’s clear that barring any other trades the Jets are drafting defense in rounds 1 & 2.

  228. avatar James in TN says:

Merry effing Xmas!!!!! Wow, just wow. I hope we move up and get Berry!!!! Sanchez is going to balance out our offense with the WR’s . Tanny great job!!!!

Hope this puts the Taylor nonsense out of the equation.

    Go JETS!!!!

  229. avatar Super T says:

If this is as good as it is reported – 5th round pick for San Antonio Holmes, I’m LOVING it!

26 year old WR still in his prime, a player who SHOULD still be a productive player for the Jets in 3 -5 years (provided he’s not in jail) Love it!

Can’t wait to hit up my Steeler fan friends this morning.

  230. avatar bbjets says:

Robert kraft just woke up to ESPN reporting this and had a heart attack….the jets are being so aggressive I love it…they are building to win now…I cannot wait for hard knocks!! Haha can I get a J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS!!!

  231. avatar Tim in SJ says:

Great move by Tanny. Now sign Leon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Very bright future for the Jets. Hopefully we can grab a good DE and some linebacker depth with the draft and send Jason Taylor back to Hell.

We are not worthy Mike Tannenbaum, we are not worthy.

Wow, I guess the Jets could really go after Berry if they wanted to without having to worry about receiver (though I would still like to see Bryant or Tate in Green and White, Santonio works for me!)

Can’t wait to see what happens on draft day.

  236. avatar Green Lantern says:

Honestly I Want us to draft a D-Lineman with the 29th pick now. I wanted something to make our offense POP More and I think we got it now!
Go Ahead sure that D-Line up! Odrick is gonna be gone though..

What a great team to follow in the off season… Taylor & Holmes are more story lines for Hard Knocks…this team is just fun…The 5th round pick that the Jets are giving up is at the very end of the round…. How can 30 other teams pass up a deal like this ? Think about teams that need receivers, Chicago, Miami, Jacksonville, their 5th rounder is better than our 5th rounder. Certainly there is risk, we lost on the Lito experiment, but the potential return is unbelievable.
If you were going to give Sanchez another weapon, a veteran WR will have more impact than Golden Tate or Demaryius Thomas at 29.
Rex &and the Jets are creating an enviornment that players want to come and play, where players can flourish.
Jets are trading down at 29

  238. avatar The Dude says:

    Wait…what? Unreal.

  239. avatar Brendan says:

Pass rusherrrrrr pass rusherrrrrrr pass rusherrrr is now the only way to go. This is another trader mike specia. l

  240. avatar Andrew says:

Now Sanchez will always have some one to throw to.
What a move about Tanny cant wit for football.

  241. avatar MEL31602 says:

I was listening to Schefter on Mike and Mike and totally forgot Braylon might get suspended for first game of year too- I guess we’ll be needing Clowney after all haha

  242. avatar WOJF says:

There goes my punter in the 5th round…..

All for this deal IF indeed it is staight up for a fifth round pick, but I remain skeptical that is the case.

There is more to this picture than meets the eye, either the Jets gave up more (Leon, conditional pick), or there is something the Steelers know that we do not and I do not mean the four game suspension.

Steelers are a VERY good organization that rarely makes mistakes.

  243. avatar Scouse Jet says:

This signing makes me ask a question. What happens to the players whose contracts are up at the end of this season if thiere’s a lockout and no 2011 season?

Will he be undercontract eventhough he won’t have a contract, or do we need to lock him up even if there’s no league?

  244. avatar OriginalJetFan says:

Any body hear any confirmationn on whether Leon will be part of the deal after he signs?

  245. avatar nicko says:

what a steal……dont look now, but the Jets are coming…….Tanny for MVP

  246. avatar rusty sanchez says:

79 rec. 1248 yds las year for holmes and we got edwards cotch and keller too….we get a pass rusher now its over

  247. avatar Scouse Jet says:

I think we could all cope with Santonio getting 60 rec. and 900 yards even if he is suspended for the first 4 games.

  248. avatar AKA....Drew says:

After this trade i dont care who they draft in round 1…… Mr T has once again proven he is a awesome GM

  249. avatar AKA....Drew says:

Our offense just became scary good…… I also think this makes Leon Washington very expendable……

Sanchez, Greene, LT, Keller, Cotchery, Edwards, Holmes and out OL? Are you effing serious??

  250. avatar Oli says:

i want to marry tanny and rex for making this the most exciting team in the league to be a fan of

  251. avatar WOJF says:

Oh yeah, the best part of this deal is we do NOT give up high picks for Marshall.

Seem to remember a while back that Cotchery was mentioned as part of a trade to bring in a big time pass rusher, mind is blank right now, anyone remember?

Not enough passes to go around now, could JCo be on the market?

  252. avatar mole57 says:

He’s likely got a four-game suspension coming up, so it’s essentially a fifth rounder for a guy who will be under contract for 12 games. The Steelers may be looking at it from that perspective, since there was no way they would re-sign him. I doubt Leon is part of this deal. The Keels is too quiet.

  253. avatar AKA....Drew says:

    WOJF

Probably not….Edwards and Holmes are silmilar players…… Holmes more consistent…Edwards a higher ceiling. Only one will be signed after this year. Cotchery is safe and will probably play the slot this year……

Jets go DL and RB/OL in rounds 1 and 2.

  254. avatar AKA....Drew says:

Plus with Holmes 4 game suspoension they wont trade Cotchery.

Lets remember Pace missed 4 games last year and we didnt miss a beat. Our offense can hold it down for 4 games and then go from ground and pound to the Sanchez show.

What do think the Pats War room is thinking this morning??

  255. avatar greg sec 130 says:

Mr. T is the man. No one can doubt it now.

  256. avatar NYJ10 says:

mike t is the f’in man!!

  257. avatar reality jet fan says:

the2010 new york bengals! Character means nothing pacman coming? edwards cro and holmes in new york city. Hard knox renamed nfls most wanted.

  258. avatar BigJets says:

Say Whaaaaaat!..what a way to wake up on this Monday morning!!

Safe to say we won’t b going after a slot receiver at pick #29! Id rather Holmes than an unproven college star anyway. Sorry Tate! And we can put those Marshall rumors to bed now, we don’t need him.

Now what do we do in the draft??? We have so much leverage now, we can pick any1 or move up!..ppl are saying Berry…I would even b happy with Mays

Pass rusher?….CB?…(I really like Kyle Wilson)

  259. avatar AKA....Drew says:

    Character?? Please

Cromartie has alot of kids….. Edwards puched a club promoter in the face ( who hasnt really) and Holmes is a pot smoking clown…..

I could care less. They arent having Sunday dinner at my house or raising my son. They are trying to score TD’s and win football games. ill take em every day!!

  260. avatar AKA....Drew says:

    BigJets

Our first 2 round just became draft best available player and……….. if Tebow is still around come #29 look for Mr T to trade back. Somebody is coming up to get him late in round 1.

  261. avatar Bent says:

Scouse – nobody will get paid in 2011 if there’s no season. Anyone whose contract expires will either be a UFA or an RFA when the new CBA is signed. Their status in 2012 if there’s no 2011 season is likely to be whatever it would have been a year earlier, because nobody will increase their number of accrued seasons.

What we don’t know is if guys that are only RFAs because of the uncapped year will still be RFAs if there is no CBA in place. Until the new CBA is signed, we won’t know. I’d imagine they’d become UFAs but wouldn’t be able to move until the lockout ended.

If there isn’t likely to be a 2011 season, teams will probably wait until 2012 offseason to lock guys up.

  262. avatar Live4Draft says:

I completely agree with needing to draft for pass rusher, DL and OL but a bold move that would fit Mr. T and REX’s M.O. would be trading our first two picks for Earl Thomas. Rex gets the difference making safety he loves and the Jets can cover all the Colts weapons!

  263. avatar zenlaw says:

I just can’t believe what I am reading. We know Tanny is amazing but Holmes for a 5th? How can that even be possible?

This is one of those trades where the other 30 teams are wondering why they didn’t think of it. A frakking steal. Unbelievable.

  264. avatar Brendan says:

Trader Mike is seriously a Man among Boys. He just goes out, scours the market, waits, waits, waits (while we all stress, stress, stress) and then BOOM, Jets get a pro-bowl caliber player.

Holmes and Braylon can now be paired on the outside and Cotch can play the slot. Keller at TE, and if Leon is still there how does a Braylon/Cotch/Holmes/Keller/Leon 5 fingered smackdown fancy you? Can they hand out next year’s exec of the year award early?

  265. avatar Frank says:

Don’t want to sound like a broken record here but wow this is a great trade. Figure only Braylon or Holmes will get extended after this season, so then it turns into a dogfight between the two of them to see who can have a better season — friendly competition is always good. THis does put a lot of pressure on our QB though – lots of hands to keep happy.

  266. avatar Jetfan in Miami says:

hearing this last night was the perfect ending to my birthday… these are the mornings i live for…Everyone is puking in South Florida and New England this morning. I love this team…never a dull moment for us fans

  267. avatar nyr2k2 says:

Trader Mike strikes again. Freaking WOW!

Even if Leon is involved in the deal, which I don’t for one second believe, I like it.

  268. avatar GANGGREEN says:

Holmes is that hybrid receiver that can play in the slot, out wide, and run reverses and gadget plays..Great signing for our offense and can be used on special teams…A player that is young, versital, and a playmaker can’t be overlooked for a 5th rounder even with off the field issues…Can anyone say YATZEEEEEEEEEE……I hope the Jets go all defensive players in the draft with a possible o-lineman in the mix…

  269. avatar BigJets says:

Guess I could see us trading back from our 29th pick, ya never know with Mike T.

He’s been making unpredictable moves up to date.

  270. avatar GP says:

What awesome news to wake up to. Santonio is a straight up G…I’m pretty sure Vontae Davis just shat his pants.

  271. avatar AKA Jack says:

Well I got my slot receiver for a great price. I hope we can help Holmes figure out a way to clean up his off field garbage.

    Overall, works for me.

  272. avatar Santonio Holmes FTW says:

Adam Schefter is saying that a league source said he will be suspended for the first 4 games of next season.

  273. avatar Santonio Holmes FTW says:

This news just made my B-Day that much better, go Jets.

  274. avatar Brendan says:

    Jack,

It’s more likely Cotch is the slot guy and Holmes will play on the outside.

  275. avatar AKA Jack says:

    Brendan-

You may be right or they may alternate. In any case, the position will be filled by a quality receiver. This team really has no excuse not to win now.

I can’t believe I am saying that about the Jets.

  276. avatar D_PO says:

Wow! I love this trade. Tanny takes a flier on Holmes for the 151st pick in draft. If it works out well then the Jets extend Holmes as he is a legit #1 and he will be Sanchez’s favorite target for years to come.

  277. avatar Bent says:

Brendan / Jack – or one of the three will be used to move up in the draft…

  278. avatar reality jet fan says:

If he behaves its an absolute steal.

  279. avatar Brendan says:

Bent, I thought about that this morning on my train ride into work. Would I be ok with using a WR (IMO it’d most likely be Cotch because of he’s under a reasonable contract through the 2012 season) to move up and get either Graham or Berry? (those are the two guys I assume they’d target, maybe Spiller if they trade Leon) Tough to watch one of my favorite Jets of the past 7 years get traded, but I would probably do it to get one of those two players.

  280. avatar simplysimon2 says:

This the moment to savor. We know nothing of tomorrow. Injuries change everything. Many changes can occur between the lip and the cup. So, today is the day to be lifted up and to be celebratory. It’s like the wedding day, full of promise and hope but there is more than a 50% chance of failure down the road. In the NFL, more than 90% fail to win the ring. So, let’s cheer when the cheering’s good and lick our wounds in silence when the outcome isn’t. TODAY IS A DAY TO CHEER! Thanks Tanny and the football gods.

  281. avatar Dylan says:

    Bent,

If they traded Cotch or Braylon, they would have one proven receiver for the 1st 4 games of the season. The Jets would have trouble winning those games with Cotchery as their number one receiver, with Clowney or Smith as their #2. And I can’t imagine that the Jets would trade Cotchery since he has such a good contract. It could happen though. There is really nothing that this team can do that would surprise me.

  282. avatar chrisphillyjetsfan says:

    wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo hhoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

  283. avatar EssentialEducator says:

If this team can stay healthy and out of jail, they are going to do some serious damage. This should really help Sanchez’s 2nd year, as we saw Ryan and Flacco have down sophomore syears.

  284. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

I can just see Tannebaum walking into our building in Florham Park with “everyday Im hustlin” playin in the background…

    Mike T is A BOSS!!!!!!!!

  285. avatar matt says:

now go get mark bulger to back up sanchez….

  286. avatar Hitlow says:

    Steeler fan here.

I’m somewhat dumbfounded at the moment. I knew Holmes was in the dog house here, but I didn’t think we’d essentially throw him away.

In regards to the suspension… Holmes recently failed a drug test, so he is getting a mandatory 4 game suspension since he was already part of the NFL’s substance abuse program. I think what really pissed off the Steelers organization is that day he failed his test, Holmes made a post on his twitter account that said he was going to “wake and bake”.

Seriously, I think Holmes needs to lay off the Internet (he also had an incident where he posted naked pics of himself on the net).

  287. avatar madbacker12 says:

i just want to say wow and tannebaum you are the best
