If he’s there, Trent Williams would make a nice addition for the Bills at #9
Over the next few days, we’re going to take a moment to look at the other teams in the division to see what they might be thinking about the 2010 Draft.
2009 Record: 6-10
First Three Picks in 2010: 1:9, 2:41, 3:72
Number of Selections: 9 (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 6, 7, 7)
RECENT FIRST ROUND HISTORY: 2009 – Aaron Maybin (DE/OLB, Penn State), Eric Wood (C, Louisville); 2008 – Leodis McKelvin (CB, Troy); 2007 – Marshawn Lynch (RB, Cal), 2006 – Donte Whitner (SS, Ohio State), John McCargo (DT, NC State); 2004 – Lee Evans (WR, Wisconsin)
Positions of Need: QB, OL, WR, DL, LB
Preamble: The Bills had an up and down season led at first by Dick Jauron, who was then fired and replaced by interim coach Perry Fewell. The Bills were competitive in a number of games during 2009, but it all came down to line play for the 2009 Bills. The Bills were not able to stop the run or keep their QB upright.
Current Situation: The Bills have a new head coach in Chan Gailey, an excellent offensive mind (’89 Broncos, ’96-’97 Steelers, ’00-’01 Dolphins) who struggled as a head coach during his short stint with the Cowboys in ’98-’99. It’s widely accepted that Gailey will want to figure out the Quarterback situation for the team, but he has to balance that against a terrible pass protecting offensive line and a switch to the increasingly popular 3-4 Defense.
The team made a few free-agent signings of note in picking up OT Cornell Green, DE Dwan Edwards and LB Andra Davis, but there’s clearly room to draft above most of these players abilities early in the draft.
Considerations: The switch to the 3-4 will precipate the need for the team to invest heavily into the front seven, specifically at Nose Tackle. With S Donte Whitner, CB Leodis McKelvin and S Jairus Byrd as the centerpieces, the secondary is the team’s biggest single strength, so don’t look for the Bills to focus much there this draft, at least at the top.
As far as offense, the team needs to bolster their line’s pass-pro abilities badly and grabbing a WR along with a QB might be a smart play with the departure of T.O.
With the Ninth Pick: Notre Dame QB Jimmy Clausen, Oklahoma, WR Dez Bryant, DT Dan Williams, and ‘waterbug‘ running back CJ Spiller could be on the board when the Bills select at No. 9. Could the Bills try and take one of those players? If OTs Bryan Bulaga or Trent Williams drops to #9, would they go with the franchise tackle? Of the two, Williams has more upside as Iowa linemen like Bulaga have been somewhat discounted because they are so ‘coached up’ coming out of that program, which could hurt Bulaga’s stock, along with some concern about his arm length – a serious issue for a starting LT.
Wildcard!:Chan Gailey coached at Georgia Tech until 2007, could projected late first rounder and former Yellow Jacket WR Demaryius Thomas get targeted by the Bills at the end of Day One or early Day Two? Gailey would know exactly how to use Thomas in his spread ‘em out offense since they are familiar with each other already as Thomas was recruited under Gailey’s leadership.

If they call at #29 I would be more than happy to trade back so Buffalo can take Tebow.
Problem is i think they are taking Clausen
-
Yea if the Browns really want Mcoy I think the Bills have to take Clausen..
-
Needs: QB, RB, WR, TE, OT, OG, C, DE, DT, OLB, ILB, CB, FS, SS, K, P
-
he looks like brad smith 60 pounds later lol
-
Hahahahahahaahaha!!!!!!
Ridinmywave, I was thinking the same exact thing! That is so true
-
lolol they gotta be related
-
would love to get their 2 and 3 or 2, 4 and 5 for #29.
-
just imagine if tebow and clausen are around at 29 we can really bang someone over the head with a trade
-
I hope we can move back one or two spots and pick up an additional second or third pick. This draft is loaded with talent.
-
Buffalo? They’re not winning for next two seasons at least. Their OL is better than I though. Damn, they need a #1wr, qb, rb, safeties, 3-4 ILB, another OLB, Dl….this is ridiculous.
-
le’sean – there rookie safety had like 9 picks in like 6 games with multiple picks in 3 straight game which has only happened one other time in nfl history and there other safety is the leader of there defense. point one. there OL was one of the worst in the league if not the worst. there starting RT quit at the age of 26 or 27. there LT was a revolving door with there starter being a TE converted into a LT which panned out horribly with no other player stepping up after he got hurt to even be considered a starter in the nfl. point 2. they have lee evans who is considered one of the better #1 wr;s in the league if he had a quarterback to throw to him. point 3. they have mitchell poz and maybin as linebackers so they need either an ILB or OLB not both. point 4. and they have one of the best yard from scrimmage running backs in the game in fred jackson and a pro bowler back-up in lynch if they dont trade him for more picks in the draft.
Personal attacks and namecalling deleted. Sorry, we do not allow that on this site. Thanks, TJB.

my bad i said yards from scrimmage i meant total yards. fred jackson had over 2,500 yards which was either first or second in the nfl i cant remember. and jairus byrd had 8 picks in a 5 week period with donte whitner being the hard hitter and team leader on defense.

Twillson,
The Bills are good.
-
i wouldn’t say there that good. there gonna finish last in their division. the jets and dolphins got playmakers while the bills are re-building which would make a LT more likely the choice for there 1st round pick why draft a QB if your just gonna injure him cause you have nobody to block for him. i could definetely see a 4-5 win season for the bills next year. even if they get clausen and start him right away there switching to a 3-4 defense with none of there defensive players other than maybin being right for the switch. undersized NT. schobel is a 4-3 dl not a 3-4. and hes there best pass-rusher. and if they get clausen they have no good tackles to protect him and sophmore guards one of them coming off a bad injury and there center was a back-up for the panthers. panthers had a great line 2 years ago but back-ups are back-ups for a reason. the team should trade schobel and lynch and get a bunch of picks for the draft cause there gonna need them to fill all the holes there gonna need to fill cause they didn’t sign any good free-agents or trade for anybody to fill there needs. i think they draft a LT and just tank it this year and get one of the 2 best QB’s in next years draft thats what i would do. they would have the LT they need to protect there future-franchise QB.

Bills are going to win lots of games next year.
-
not unless they trade for rothlisberger and draft a tackle in the second round to keep him up-right. then they still need a NT, a second wr and an outside/inside linebacker whatever spot mitchell doesn’t go to. then the bills would be a playoff threat.
-
Sooooo…..Bill are good, right?
-
they have some good players but the team as a whole kind of stinks right now. even with an easier schedule i still can only see them winning 5-6 games.

C’mon Bills trade up at the end of round 1 giving up next year’s 1st for Tim Tebow. That will keep them in the cellar for a few more years.
