I really think Rex Ryan will push Tannenbaum to draft Taylor Mays.
Rex loves bringing defensive backs on blitzes. Could you imagine someone of his size and speed coming on blitzes.

Terrence Cody is another real possibility.

  2. avatar jkjet64 says:

I honetly hope they bypass on Mays. i think he is another Vernon Gholston. They need a Pass Rusher or a DE, NT

  3. avatar Marvel says:

Lmao … Yea Mays is another Ghost … I can’t wait until we draft Mays it’s gonna feel great to see him prove the doubters wrong .. I actually think Ghost is gonna be a decent to good DE .. He never asked to be a OLB so I will give him a chance to prove himself at DE before I label him a complete bust ..

    Mays
    Sapp/Hardy
    Arenas
    OT

  4. avatar jkjet64 says:

    Marvel,

Just my opinion. I watched him at the combine and I’m not a fan, sorry!

  5. avatar seanmac31 says:

Mays would be a waste of time at 29. Safety simply isn’t a value position in this defense, and the team would be far better served by going after a cornerback instead, as that IS a high priority position with a number of very good prospects who figure to be available, none of whom have as much bad tape as Mays does.

  6. avatar Green Lantern says:

Mays is Going to be good. But i would only take him at 29 if Kindle, and Odrick are gone.

  7. avatar RJ says:

If Mays somehow falls to us at 29, I think he’s worth the risk. As far as pass rushers go, I like Hughes over Kindle. I also would not mind taking Cody if he’s available.

  8. avatar Doctor K says:

I’ll state it again: don’t be surprised with an OT or G at 29. It wouldn’t be the first time (Mangold 2006). I would be ecstatic if Iupati fell, but I doubt it. While Asamoah may be a reach at 29 I don’t think Charles Brown is a bad first round choice to eventually replace Woody. (He protected Sanchez back in USC).

  9. avatar seanmac31 says:

Wouldn’t be my pick, but I agree with the concept. Anthony Davis or Bruce Campbell would make sense, as would Iupati. My personal preference for the pick is probably still Jahvid Best, but I haven’t seen any indication that he’s a serious consideration.

  10. avatar Green Lantern says:

Hughes is a better pass rusher than Kindle by a little bit but Kindle is the better overall player.

Bruce Campbell and Anthony Davis are going to be lone gone by 29 and why reach for an Injury Prone 4th RB ?

  11. avatar Dylan says:

I would love to get Mays at 29. He has a ridiculous combination of size and speed. Rex would turn him into a Pro Bowler. I’m not too crazy about Kindle though. He doesn’t really do anything well except rush the passer, and he didn’t even get that many sacks last year. I would much rather have Hughes or Graham. Here are some names that I think might be good picks at #29.

Brandon Graham- Best OLB in the draft, but he will probably be gone by 29.

Jerry Hughes- Best pass rusher, but not quite as good overall as Graham.

Jared Odrick- Very safe pick. Can play multiple positions and would probably start right away.

Taylor Mays- Physical phenom. Rex could turn him into a great player.

Kyle Wilson- Probably the 2nd best CB in the draft. He shot up the boards after his great combine and Pro Day.

Everson Griffen- I think that there is a very good chance that the Jets take Griffen. Graham will most likely be gone, and Hughes is undersized. Rex loves big linebackers.

Linval Joseph- Unbelievable measurables. Has the athleticism to play DE at 6’6 330 and he ran a 5.01 40. He has shot up the draft boards recently, and could be taken in the 1st round.

Devin McCourty- Local kid from Nanuet. Went to St. Josephs HS and the went to Rutgers for 4 years. He is also one hell of a CB.

Terrence Cody- Great athlete. Maybe the only true NT in the draft. Rex would love finding ways to use Cody and Jenkins together.
    Nate Allen

  12. avatar RJ says:

Let’s say Mays, Cody, Hughes, and Kindle are all available. Which player do you want to see in a Jets jersey?

  13. avatar RJ says:

Also, Everson Griffen scares me. Physical specimen, but never played to his ability at USC.

  14. avatar Dylan says:

Nate Allen- Berry, Thomas, and Mays could all be gone by the time the Jets pick. Allen is the next best safety. He played very well for USF.

  15. avatar Green goblin says:

The Jets already have five defensive lineman (Ellis, Jenkins, Devito, Pouha, and Pitoutua). I also heard that Gholston is going to be moved to DE so that would make six…There isn’t enough room to draft a DL…Who would get the pink slip??

  16. avatar Dylan says:

    Green goblin,

The Jets let Douglas and Green walk. They definitely have room for one more DL.

  17. avatar Deven says:

Hughes in my opinion because if he can put on some weight he has a pure pass rush ability and could be exactly what this defense need, and we wouldn’t have to sell out for Taylor who is clearly using the Jets.

  18. avatar RJ says:

Can it just be Thursday already? Can’t wait to sit on my couch with a nice 12 pack.

  19. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

Lets get Jerry Hughes at 29, tell Taylor to shove it up his bunghole and get AD when the Pats cut him loose after the draft or before training camp…

  20. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

One thing about Griffen is that although he struggled as freshmen and sophmore, the light did go on as a junior…

With Polamalu, Mauluaga, Cushing and Clay Matthews all making an impact as rookies out of USC, if we pick Griffen we could be getting a super talent just as the light is coming on

  21. avatar Green Lantern says:

    RJ-
Thats Hard cause I really want Mays but Im going Kindle.
Kindle had to of been doubled a lot last year, Im guessing because I dont watch a lot of Texas games but with Orakpo there he had 10 sacks and 22 TFL’s!

  22. avatar James in TN says:

Taylor Mays is this years Vernon Gholston.
I can assure you we will not draft another “HYBRID”. The combine is a joke where atheletes hire trainers to prepare them for it. Game tape is the best indicator, what did the player do against A1 talent?

    Draft Mount Cody

  23. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

Not for nothing, but some of these draft guys also nitpicked things about Rey Mauluoga…how he was a selfish player and always looked to make the big play, he took plays off…and all the kid did was make plays and help the Bengals become a tough, physical defense on their way to a division title…

You cant mess with Pete Carrolls track record for defensive guys

  24. avatar James in TN says:

I hope Jason Taylor signs with the Bills.

  25. avatar seanmac31 says:

Because the offense continues to need explosiveness and they aren’t going to get it from a receiver. Also because there is a good chance the team gets not much from Leon and I don’t feel comfortable with the Greene/LT duo at the moment. I think there’s a strong case to be made for Best, who I like better than any of the supposedly first-round quality running backs. But again, that doesn’t seem like the direction the team is looking in.

In the end, I think the team should go BPA and not worry too much about forcing a pick into an area of need (the team doesn’t have any glaring needs). Take a player with the size/speed that the team wants, but don’t rush out to add a rush end or a safety just because those were areas that were a little bit weaker. My read of the draft is that the best player when we pick may well be a cornerback, and I wouldn’t hesitate to add one.

  26. avatar Jets4Life says:

    Rd 1 jerry Hughes olb
    Rd 2 perrish cox cb
    Rd 4 cj Wilson de
    Rd 6 zoltan mesko p
    Rd 7 alex parsons og

  27. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

    James in Tn

Any pass rusher they bring in is going to have to be a HYBRID…so are you saying the Jets will never draft another pass rusher again???…Gholston was a consensus top 15 pick, but unfortunately for us its hard to predict how good a players football IQ is. Gholstons problem is that his technique and football instincts are so far behind his athletic ability, that a lot of times he just looks unsure of what he wants to do, or doesnt know how to counter blockers with a certain pass rush move in a certain situation, ie swim, rip, or club moves…

They might not pick another guy in the top 10 any time soon, but at 29 the financial risk is greatly reduced and you can get a lot of super talented, technically sound “tweeners” who can be great 3-4 OLBs ..

Lawrence Taylor only had like 10 sacks in 2 years at UNC

  28. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

    seanmac

I agree…it very well might boil down that at 29, a CB is truly the best player available…and another speedy CB wouldnt hurt against teams with speedy slot guys where the slower Lowery doesnt match up well

  29. avatar Zartan says:

Have you guys seen photos of Taylor Mays?

I’m not gonna go in to hard on the guy but all he can do is Hit. Doesn’t know anything else.

If you want to draft(1st rd) a guy that can only hit, i will not go in to hard on you but i’m glad your not drafting for the Jets.

  30. avatar RJ says:

    video of Taylor Mays highlights/lowlights

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vFa4aEsZzzw

  31. avatar Green Lantern says:

Since Taylor Played in the box he wouldn’t have a lot of tape of him in coverage first of all. His best year was with the pass rushing and run stopping Linebackers or Cushing, Matthews, and Rey were there when he was OUT OF THE BOX !

I heard Rex doesn’t value Safeties that much so im not sweating Taylor Mays, and cause I want Sergio more but Taylor Mays is going to prove ALL of you wrong and I know it.

  32. avatar Zartan says:

    Eddie DiGio

You make so much sense and i know where your comming from, last year i spent most my time trying to convince TJBers that Sanchez was the pick. No one wanted to draft a QB so high. This season no one wanted to draft a WR. Do we as jets live off other teams rosters? If so this great team they built , will not last long.

  33. avatar rusty sanchez says:

every pick should goto defense this year…i know a back up o-lineman would be cool too but we need or can use another olb,dl ,safety,cb,and ellis’s soon to be replacement since hes getting up there in age…thas why im hoping devito, gholston, and westerman can all improve

  34. avatar rusty sanchez says:

    rj
not for nothing even tho mays ran down j. best from behind which is pretty good and hits rb’s and qb’s hard it looks like he scared to hit te’s

  35. avatar DaveBleedsGreen says:

I’ve been watching A LOT of highlight reels today and I say skip on Mays as well. He over-pursues and doesn’t wrap up on a lot of tackles. I think we should take Kindle, Odrick or the best possible defensive big man/pass rusher in round 1, and Reshad Jones in Round 2. Jones is NASTY. He’s big, strong and fast. Hits just as hard as Berry and hawks like Thomas. I think he’s a sleeper big time player. Check out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4R1Ryqw3k5Y&annotation_id=annotation_223946&feature=iv I’m real big on this kid.

  36. avatar RJ says:

rusty, I was more disappointed with the lowlights than impressed with the highlights. He doesn’t wrap up, always uses his shoulder.

Dave, I am also very high on Jones. His highlight vid was very impressive and would like to see him a Jet in round 2.

  37. avatar Marvel says:

It’s funny how people are quick to pick out the flaws that Mays has but when their talking about the player they want it’s all smiles & giggles .. When I’m watching Kindle/Hughes/Odrick/etc highlight vids they all look like all-pro players , but when I’m watching the lowlight vids they all look like trash ..

Funny how that works right ..

  38. avatar RJ says:

Marvel, all I’m saying is I saw more flaws in Mays’ video than positives. He is a physical freak with amazing speed, but when I watched that video I wasn’t too impressed. I am not saying he can’t succeed in the NFL and still think he’s worth a late 1st round pick.

  39. avatar rusty sanchez says:

anyone know why greg hardy is a projected 4th rounder??i was watching him play against alabama on youtube and he owned them was that his only good game??it looks like if the jets can move up somehow in the early 4th and he still around i say snag this guy

  40. avatar Jets4Life says:

    Rusty sanchez

He is projected so low because he had a lot of injures and they say that he lacks the passion for the game very similar to carlos dunlap and possibly VG 2.0 but I could see taking a chance on him in the fourth

  41. avatar Jets4Life says:

I used to like resuad jones but he has terrible ball skills and not the best in coverage he seems to me like a slightly better version of eric smith

Now I would rather take perrish cox in the second he is a beast he could start day one in the nickel

  42. avatar RJ says:

Perrish Cox is a monster. Wouldn’t mind him in the 2nd as well.

  43. avatar SackDance99 says:

In the Jets pre-draft presser, one of the guys who will be in the war room talked about outside pass rusher and mentioned Hughes and Kindle by name. IMO, that’s the kiss of death. I don’t have any idea who the Jets will take, but if it’s a WILL/DE pass rusher, IMO, Griffen is the best and has the most upside. I like seanmac’s idea of Best and Iupati would be a good pick, too. I don’t like the idea of CB at 29. Since 1999, the CBs drafted at 29 or lower have been: Kelly Jennings, Marlin Jackson, Sammi Davis and Asomugha. Obviously, we’d all love another Nnamdi, but it’s more likely that we get a Marlin Jackson…a guy who IMO is no better than Drew Coleman or Lowery. Why not, instead, take a guy like Griffen who already has the size, power and speed to play Rex’s WILL/DE hybrid? I know his tag is that he’s immature and didn’t give a consistent effort, which is why he’s a late first-rounder or second-round prospect. If his attitude is positively adjusted (and the Jets defense won’t tolerate rookie laggards), he has, from what I’ve seen, the most pass rush ability. Plus, he was a junior and IMO if he had played his senior year, he would’ve become a top 15 prospect, at least.

  44. avatar brian d says:

i think taylor mays would be a tremendous addition too the jets D…while he isnt a great in pass coverage he would be able to do alot of things for this jets defense i could only imagine what Rex would do with TMAYS…. sayin that if hes gone i go best pass rusher around kindle griffen hughes odrick and then Reshad jones in the second would be a nice pick up

  45. avatar Ed L says:

hey guys is anyone going to the jets draft party thursday night at the new meadowlands stadium?

  46. avatar LeRevis says:

    If we sign Jason Taylor
Round 1 – Jared Odrick or Devin McCourty
Round 2 – Javier Arenas or Tyson Alualu
    Round 4 – olb
    If not,
    Round 1 – Jared Odrick
    Round 2 – Ricky Sapp
    Round 4 – cb

  47. avatar rusty sanchez says:

anyone know if its going to be crowded at radio city music hall on saturday for rds 4-7????

  48. avatar Dilligaf13 says:

What if the JETS trade down? The pass rush should be better with the addition of Cromartie, QBs will have to hold ball a little longer. Then we can build to keep successful for the future.

  49. avatar seanmac31 says:

Jason Taylor should have zero impact on who we draft.

  50. avatar rusty sanchez says:

i wish we can somehow grab an 3rd or 4th round pick somehow this year

  51. avatar Dilligaf13 says:

If we sign Taylor, do we still sign Thomas if he gets released?

  52. avatar Dilligaf13 says:

I agree Taylor will have little impact on draft.

  53. avatar jkjet64 says:

I hope we don’t sign Taylor. Pleeease!!!!! I’d have to root for him if we pick him up, but i’m not gonna lie, it’s gonna hurt a little! lol

  54. avatar Nyjetz24 says:

Can we pleae trade up and draft eric berry The guy is a monster!! He would be unbelieveable in the Jets defense. Just look at these highlights

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E-PG04d4-sI

  55. avatar alex morizio says:

    nyjetz24

we don’t have enough to trade up. we would have to give up our entire draft this year, AND next years 1st and 2nd round picks.

we need DL, and another cb. i would also consider a TE in round 6. we need depth there.

  56. avatar juunit says:

I agree with the trading down. If Odrick isn’t available, why not make a move to add another pick? Trade the first round for a second and a third round or something along those lines. Get three valuable players in the first rounds instead of two. Especially if the best guy available at #29 isn’t necessarily the guy you want. That Braylon Edwards trade really might come back to haunt us.

  57. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

As seanmac and others have said, Jason Taylor being here or not should have no bearing on who we take at 29…

But for the record, it would have been nice to know before the week of the draft whether he would be here or not…when the thing with Schefter came out and how all indications were that JT “would go to the Jets” I resigned myself to the fact that it was inevitable and tried to rationalize the move instead of allowing Jason Taylor to ruin a possibly great offseason and great upcoming regular season for our boys in green and white…but now that this guy wants to wait until after the draft a few things are very clear…

his heart is not 100 % into winning a ring, he is using the Jets and the time has come for us to say thanks but no thanks, have fun on the unemployment line and well take our chances before training camp finding another veteran pass rusher…

Funny that Jason Taylor wore out his welcome with Jets fans before he ever even became part of the team…I dont care if he was LT circa 86 right now…stay the funk away from our football team Xerxes

  58. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

    SackDance

I hear your point, although McCourty and Pat Robinson are speedsters, man corners that are in a different mold than Marlin Jackson, I see your point, but those guys are worth a look at 29

I totally agree on Griffen. He NEVER had a senior year, these draft writers are going by his freshmen and sophmore years as INDICATORS of serious character issues…

You watch Gholston rush the passer and you watch Griffen, Griffen is much faster and uses actual pass rush technique to get to the QB, as Gholston just tossed around smaller, weaker sub NFL competion in the Big Ten…

Plus Griffen is more NFL ready because Pete Carroll’s program better prepares its players to play in the NFL from a scheme standpoint

Id welcome Griffen as a Jet in a heartbeat

  59. avatar jkjet64 says:

    Well said eddie!

  60. avatar M eazii says:

Kindle is our guy gentlemen… And if its not kindle, then i say jerry hughes and if not him it better be an offensive linemen

  61. avatar jkjet64 says:

I was looking at the Mock Drafts and they have Kindle all over the place. Not to mention a few others. I read something about GreenBay being in intereted in Hughes also, so i’m not sure if either one would be there but I would be happy to have either

  62. avatar droseatwork says:

Trade up for the Guard. Release Faneca and use that money along with Gholston’s money to resign both WR’s.

  63. avatar rusty sanchez says:

drafttek right now has us picking jerry hughes with kindle going to greenbay @23 and griffen going to the seahawks @24

  64. avatar rusty sanchez says:

also i just noticed that new england has 5 picks in the 7th round alone wtf!!!

  65. avatar jethead94 says:

Jerry Hughes… all that needs to be said

  66. avatar rusty sanchez says:

between the jets trading up to 5 and heyward bey being selected at 9 im sure alot of mocks got screwed last year

  67. avatar david harris says:

    How about Jets:

trade 2nd round pick for Albert Haynesworth. Ends all DE troubles instantaneously. Him Ellis and Jenkins woo wee.

Anyway trade leon for a 3rd round pick (it kills me to write that but he’s coming off a terrible injury. People compare his to Sproles injury but as far as i know Sproles bone did not break to the point where it broke the skin. I want Leon to prove all of us wrong but if he can’t then we’ll just end up letting him go for nothing at the end of the season). Package the 3rd and 5th for a 2nd. Draft Reshad Jones in the 2nd round, there is our safety. OR don’t trade Leon, package the 4th and 5th for a 3rd and draft Major Wright. If there is another way to draft Jones without trading Leon then take that route, but trading Leon seems like the only option of getting enough compensation to trade up for another 2nd.

If Leon is traded then draft Best with the 1st round draft pick. I’ve wanted this guy and he’d offer more or less the same thing Leon offered when he was healthy. That is not to say Leon can’t do it anymore, in fact if the Jets decide to keep him, then i really hope all this rehabilitation and therapy and work he’s put into getting his leg into the best condition allows him to have a monster year. If Tanny feels Leon can return back to his old form then draft Kindle and begin developing him into an OLB. Maybe some competition will finally get Gholston to increase his desire to play. Maybe it won’t, either way the Jets will have depth in this position and will also be able to replace Gholston if he doesn’t do anything for a 3rd consecutive season. That being said i think Gholston will have 7 sacks thsi season. Just saying, it may be wishful thinking but i think under Rex’s guidance he’l be able to do a lot mroe than he ever has. However this will not come as an OLB, my guess is that he’ll bulk up about 15 pounds and also gain about another 10-15 of fat and have an integral role as a de/dt.

If kindle is not available, and if mcclain somehow does not fall to 29, then either trade down OR draft a corner like Kyle Smith. Some of you may know better corners out there that will be projected at 29, feel free to replace Smith’s name, i havent really followed cb’s this year and Smith is the one whose name im hearing most so im only assuming he’s going to bring in good value.

My reasoning for not picking a guard in this draft is simple. Look at the amount of teams in need of a guard in the 1st round. Those teams will conceivably not take a guard in the 1st round of next year’s draft… which means that next year’s draft will likely have more or less the same amount of good guards however with not as much demand, which will allow teams like the jets to be able to draft better guards towards the end of the draft than they would this season. Then again i don’t know next year’s guard class and this years and it very well may not be as good which would mean that this guard could have more talent than next year’s… and also the Jets have 2 aging guards and they may need to draft guards in 2 consecutive season’s to be able to replace them (Woody and Faneca).

In the 6th round i’d draft that punter Zoltan. He’s got a boot, Jets are in need of a punter, lock it down. In the 7th, well u draft a player with a lot of desire. You introduce him to Rex, you hope for the best, if so then you will get the next Marques Douglas or Bart Scott, if not then you don’t really lose out on much.

But this is just my take on the draft.

  68. avatar david harris says:

then if thomas is cut you sign him, and then wait until july 24 to sign sharper.

team is then ready for take off.

  69. avatar mike s. says:

I love the Haynesworth idea, but not sure it can happen.
I’d give up #29 to make it happen.
Haynesworth can play the Ngata role for Rex, rather than the NT position. “Public reports” suggest he is seeking a trade b/c he may be asked to play NT.

  70. avatar mike s. says:

I have seen a lot of Jerry Hughes posts and am not familiar with his skills.
Can anyone comment on why he is worth a 1st round pick, when guys like Worilds, Nesheim, Misi, and Gibson may be available much later?

  71. avatar WW85 says:

We better take a DL unless we miraculously trade up for Berry. I also think Mays would be interesting in Rex’s system–but he is high risk. I can just see Brady/ Manning causing him to turn over on himself. He can be clumsy. BUT his potential is HUGE.

The Pats will probably take Odrick so I thhink we take Cody. But if SD takes Cody, I bet we try to trade down. Unless I am wrong, after Odrick is gone, the talent is pretty much all good but not great.

  72. avatar Brandon from Illinois says:

MADDEN 11 DEMO VOTING ENDS TODAY!!! GO TO http://maddennfl.easports.com/ AND VOTE FOR THE JETS VS COLTS! YOU CAN VOTE AS MANY TIMES AS YOU WANT, YOU JUST HAVE TO DELETE YOUR BROWSING HISTORY AFTER EACH VOTE AND REFRESH THE PAGE.

  73. avatar Adrian in CA says:

Tanny has done well this offseason. However, the glaring need is for a pass rusher. Thats the only reason they are going after Jason Taylor, even tho he is a hated one.

Rex needs more cornerbacks, so I expect one of the top two picks to go towards that, and I’d trade the rest of the picks to get a potential starting guard after that.

  74. avatar Jets4Life says:

Sergio kindle of he is gone by 29 than jerry Hughes. in the second round I want perrish cox at corner he is a beast

  75. avatar DaveBleedsGreen says:

If they sign Taylor… 1st: Devin McCourty, 2nd: Reshad Jones, 4th: Eric Norwood, 6th and 7th Oline Depth. But I kind of hope we trade back with Cleveland like the rumor I read for their 2nd, their 5th and Shaun Rogers. Stick him at end and then basically the same draft plan.

  76. avatar Brendan says:

If they sign Taylor? Jerry Hughes. If they don’t sign Taylor? Jerry Hughes. (Unless Tanny trades up for brandon Graham).
