Breaking: Jason Taylor Agrees to Become a Jet

by Weeks on April 20th, 2010 at 3:07 pm

Whether you have been dreading it or anxiously waiting for it, Jason Taylor has finally come to a decision. After Adam Greenbaum got a tip from his buddy at ESPN, Adam Schefter officially confirmed that Jason Taylor will be wearing Green and White.

Update (contract details via Schefter): Jason Taylor’s deal is two years, $13 million. But the real number is one year up to $3.75 million. Taylor is a Jet.

Filed to ESPN: Jason Taylor has agreed to become a New York Jet.

There has been a lot of mixed reactions to Taylor coming on board while some believe he can help the pass rush others point out his negative outbursts against Jets fans. Although he has drawn the situation out way longer than it should have been dragged, hopefully he will be able to come in and help with the pass rush while leaving the diva persona in Miami where it belongs so there can be a peaceful coexistence in New York.

    Done and done.

  2. avatar jets17 says:

    hope hes ready for camp…

  3. avatar Row says:

    In Rex We Trust.

I don’t want to root for him, but as soon as I see him in uniform I’m on board until he proves otherwise. Clean slate, let’s go.

  4. avatar JP in LA says:

He’s not a criminal. He’s just a big mouth. So’s Rex Ryan. And in this system he will help pass the rusher. He will have 5 or more sacks. For the cost — I believe that is a big win.

  5. avatar Meazii says:

1yr for 3.75 mil … Not too bad but I do got mixed feelings on this… He better produce on the field!

  6. Whatever it takes! Dancing to the Super Bowl!!!

  7. avatar Drew says:

Sorry, hate it. My hatred of everything Miami Dolphins is too much to like this move.

  8. avatar steviek says:

after he gets that first sack in a key spot i’m all for it. think anybody will be booing if brady is on the ground?

  9. avatar LONGTIMEJETFAN says:

    don’t like it one bit….

  10. avatar jtray13 says:

    I feel dirty…

  11. avatar AKA....Drew says:

Be at the off season program ass clown and try and not be a washed up scrub that I think you might be…..you do those things and I will be happy to cheer for our jersey that you will be wearing.

  12. avatar matt says:

hated him until right now. ill give him a chance but he has to start out strong or im as are many of u gonna make his life miserable

  13. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

Hey nothing we can do now except hope this guy wants to get a ring…He signed before the draft which helps the Jets so I’ll give him credit for that…

But he better help this team because he has ZERO good will built up with myself and most of the Jets fans here…

  14. avatar C-MART28 says:

Personally I hate this guy and always will, but that being said he’s on my team for now so I have no choice but to acknowledge him if he plays well. I hope he does I really do, I just don’t know how much he will produce at this stage in his career. Now I’m curious to see how this impacts the draft on Thursday. I don’t know if we’re still gonna go for a pass rusher. will we trade back? its gonna be interesting.

  15. avatar Michael M. says:

    amen Luke. ugh.

  16. avatar oleosmirf says:

Rex will find a way to best utilize Taylor.

this uncapped year seems to be a blessing after all…we get these low-risk high reward guys and if we dont win we’re not screwed.

i just hope they draft well and have the replacements on hand

  17. avatar J-Kay says:

If we cut Shaun Ellis after signing Jason f’ing Taylor, I’m going to freak the hell out

  18. avatar Brad says:

considering he was on vacation last week, weekend- I can now understand him taking this long to sign. He got back to the states yesterday and signed today! Goods deal! Major pass rushing upgrade over BT or VG!

  19. avatar Vince says:

OK…..1 year deal? With the draft right around the corner do we still draft a DE with the first pick or do we get our FS? This seems like a band-aid trade.

  20. avatar Marvel says:

    Yay ….

  21. avatar ron2473000 says:

    About time……let’s move forward!!!!

  22. avatar I"remember"Kotite says:

Both eyes toward the draft. I do like the fact that we are developing a strong nucleus. J.T allows us to address other needs. I’ll be the first to admit I h8 the band wagon fans, but I also believe that it’s invetiable
    with a championship sqaud.

  23. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

    Hey Jason

U ready to do some kissin’?

  24. avatar PA Matt says:

Try to look at it in a different light. Sure, we hate him b/c he is a Dolphin through and through. BUT think how much Dolfans must HATE this. Could you imagine Curtis Martin or Wayne Chrebet wearing teal and orange, and still keep your food down?

Let’s celebrate another stake in the heart of our AFC East rivals…

  25. avatar Zartan says:

    jtray13,

    Truely LMFAO

  26. avatar Meazii says:

Once he gets a sack on Brady and then Henne, or Henne first then Brady, that is when he will gain some of my respect! Some, not all… I wanted him on my team at first but he took so long to make a decision, makes me wonder if he really wants to play here

  27. avatar Brad says:

I cant see them cutting Ellis- he is in the last year of his contract anyways- only making 3mil, thats half of what he has been making over the last couple of years and he was a pro bowler last year! I can see them cutting BT if they add a pass rusher in the draft!

  28. avatar Dylan says:

How can we sign him for nearly 4 mil? I thought the max we could offer was 1.5 since he is a FA. I’m confused….

  29. avatar jcjets says:

How can they pay him so much? Feely was only making 1.5 last year?? And I thought he was only making around that for last year with the dolphins.

  30. avatar njmatt says:

I find myself unhappy with this

hopefully he goes out and changes my opinion

  31. avatar Zartan says:

This allows us to go DE, OLB or CB the first 2 rounds

  32. avatar Chris says:

Now that we have a DE, let’s trade up, get Eric Berry, and then designing the Super Bowl rings.

  33. avatar Derrick G says:

i think he will be ok

  34. avatar Chris says:

Fix Typo – Now that we have a DE, let’s trade up, get Eric Berry, and then design the Super Bowl rings.

  35. avatar Snakeman says:

I will punch the first person I see wearing a Jason Taylor Jets jersey in the face, unless they are a Dolpins fan doing it for the purpose of irony (as in here’s a man who openly trashed NY Jets fans, and the Jets are now employing this man).

  36. avatar David N. says:

I am now oficially looking for a new football team to root for

I would rather have TO on my team, w/ Pacman Jones covering him, w/ Mike Vick under center. Throw in Leonard Little @ DE, too.

    A sad day.

  37. avatar Youngjet says:

This is some bulls*** man. Now I have to root for this clown?ugh! Only thing worse than this could be having Tom Brady the last few years of his career

  38. avatar EnoughTalk says:

    Miami Fan here –

been reading the posts for the last 2 weeks and nothing but hate for JT. Let’s see what happen when he has a couple of sacks and you all start cheering him.

    funny –

  39. avatar Jets-Fan-4-Life says:

    @ ROW – Agreed…Clean slate, let’s roll!

  40. avatar OriginalJetFan says:

All in all , it’s just another brick in the wall

Do your job, Jason, get some pressure and sacks and play like a Jet!

  41. avatar cleo says:

If i get a im sorry to the jets fans im on broad i still dont like him

  42. avatar Meazii says:

I hope we still draft kindle, Graham, or Hughes… Hopefully JT can show them the ropes in the NFL… I’ll be happy with odrick too… We better go defense first round!! Ahhh I’m soo amped for Thursday!

  43. avatar hank/naples says:

The hatred just picked up a notch. My offer still stands of a small donation to preferred charity (or funeral) to the first NY fan that wears Jets Taylor jersey to the Orange Bowl!!!

  44. avatar Revis Christ says:

    Dylan
i just saw on nfl live that its a 2 year deal and he will get a roster bonus some tiime over the offseason… adam shefter said that if he is off the team before the roster bonus he only make 1.34 mill

  45. avatar EnoughTalk says:

Eddie DiGio – you all will be “kissin’” JT – not the other way around.

and let’s see what he has to say after the one year deal :)

  46. avatar Harris52ChampionshipDefense says:

Wow, David N, are you serious? I was all set to post a “BOOOOOOOOOOOO!” response then I saw your misguided drivel. If that’s what you honestly think then we don’t want you here anyway. You’d rather have a drunk-driving murderer on your team than Jason Taylor? Good grief!

  47. avatar AKA....Drew says:

I would still draft an OLB in round 1….

  48. avatar Benny says:

A little harsh David N. but I am thoroughly disgusted by this move.

  49. avatar ganGreen says:

David N and the rest of you….stop being such babies about this. He is a distinguished player so just put the hatred aside. I agree I don’t like the guy but I still respect him for how he performs on the field. The second he drills Brady into the ground you’ll forget all about the past. You can’t change the past, but only look forward to the future. Let’s go JETS

  50. avatar JesusRevis says:

This is a good football move. Jason Taylor will help a weakness (passrush) without drastically changing our draft plans. If he can manage 6 sacks, the 1 year $3.75 million contract will be well worth it, anything more will be a bonus.

I hate this guy just as much as any other Jets fan, but once I see him in a green and white jersey, standing next to Bart Scott, I have a feeling I will start to like him, as will all of you.

    In Rex we trust

  51. avatar Dylan says:

    Revis Christ,

    Thanks for the info!

  52. avatar AKA....Drew says:

    Davis N

I might be one of the biggest J Taylor haters of all time but your comments are just absurd and a little ignorant.

You root for the NY Jets…..not the NY Jason Taylor’s

  53. avatar Electric Ham says:

What Rex wants Rex gets. I trust Rex, he seems very confident that he will get JT to be a productive pass rusher. I’m just not looking forward to seeing post game interviews with this dbag.

  54. avatar Meazii says:

    Enoughtalk,

yup alot of hate, ALOT, for your boy JT… Wait, is he still your boy now that he plays for the contending JETS?! Haha, stop trolling over here you fool, your right most of us don’t like him but we damn sure will be cheering after he gets a sack or 2 on your boy Henne!

  55. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

The guy has ZERO good will and faith from Jets fan as of now…this guy will truly have to earn my respect

With that being said, I know the guy knows how to rush the QB

this is Rex’s baby right here and Im going with it because Rex is the man behind this

  56. avatar AKA....Drew says:

    Jesus

Like is a very strong word but maybe I wont hate him if he gets to the QB….but if he sucks I will hate him 10 times more.

Overall I hope he is not the player i saw a few games last year and is more the player you guys think he can be

  57. avatar Andy says:

Well as much as I don’t really like this move, I think we all have to accept it and hope for the best. Hopefully he won’t be a bust. If he turns out to be one, man he will hate the Jets fans even more. I just hope he doesn’t say anything stupid like “Oh I always wanted to be a Jet…” or something along those lines. It will be the biggest BS ever! Just do good for us and dont forget whose team you are on when we play the Dolphins.

  58. avatar Marvel says:

    Eneough Talk

It’s not all hate , read closer .. I’m very pleased with the signing..

  59. avatar JesusRevis says:

    Drew,

What player did you see last year? He was effective in his 2 games against the Jets.

The most important factor to realize here is that the Jets are not signing him to be an impact player, they want him to do 1 thing and 1 thing only, rush the QB. I think he will succeed in that role.

  60. avatar Ed L says:

In rex we trust plain and simple…

  61. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

    Enough Talk

Why dont you follow your stupid name because we’ve all heard “Enough Talk” out of you…

  62. avatar Manny fresh says:

    Ummm welcome… I think :: confused look;;

  63. avatar belvey631 says:

We better beat these dolphins 2x this season. Taylor needs to lead the way. I don’t want him crying that his belly hurts when we play them.

  64. avatar JayD says:

Meh… not pleased, but yea, after a big sack I’ll be happy.

  65. avatar Jets-Fan-4-Life says:

Ok so this news upsets a few of us….
    1 – He’s a big time D.bag (this is true)
2 – He shaves his legs (no man should)
3 – I could care less that he calls people or any team names. Think about it we all do. I know I call the Dolphins the gay fish team, so who cares?
4 – If he plays well for my beloved team than this is a good move for us…(and I still don’t have to like this guy)
5 – The MOST IMPORTANT thing to come out of this signing is that it WILL tick-off the uneducated crybaby Dolphin fans!!!

Ha-Ha Blowhole Suckers!!!! Consider this a slap to your organizations history!!!
    We just signed FLIPPER!!!

I truly can not wait to here them cry about this – LOL!!

  66. avatar Bent says:

Remember, only the cap number in year one has to match. I’d imagine that he’s been given something like a 1.5 salary (presumably the 1.34 that Schefter stated), with a $1.75m salary in year 2 (it cannot exceed 130%). The remaining $9-10m must be a completion bonus which will be paid if he’s still on the team at a certain time or some kind of incentive that doesn’t need to be accounted for.

No real chance he gets that 10m unless he has an incredible year, but it’s possible they could pay it in two tranches to get him to stay on the team long enough to renegotiate the deal next year. Maybe the first tranche is $2.25m, which would explain why he is considered to have an effective one year, 3.75m deal.

Kinda flyin’ blind here, but that’s my take.

  67. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

    Andy

Well according to “Enough Talk” and his expert opinion on Jets fans…Jason Taylor is going to walk in here and we will all bow to his greatness and kiss his shiny bald head for honoring us with his presence on the Jets…

So funny, Klecko or Curtis Martin ever did anything like this, none of us would be sticking up for him like he’s our daddy on the Dolphins blogs…

  68. avatar johnsec.125 says:

this better work out. and, he better have MONSTER games against miami. he also better buy into the whole jet thing 100%, or tanny just might have to put up with a very pissed off chunk of jet nation.

  69. avatar gt73 says:

The past is the past. JT wears Green and White now and with one Super Bowl victory he can be remembered forever on as a New York Jet. He needs to learn the chant first though — J-E-T-S JETS! JETS! JETS!. Squish the Fish!!!

  70. avatar JustaGreenGuy says:

Yay! We signed a 36yr old (when the season starts), situational pass rusher with diminishing skills. This is the move that will put us over the top.

  71. avatar Andrew Weiss says:

Year after year we kicked the Dolphins’ ass, even when we sucked. If I was a ‘fin, I’d hate the Jets, too.

It’s not 1945. You go where a contract is. I doubt he’s thrilled, neither are we. So what? Performance on the field matters.

Meanwhile, that’s the last piece freeing up the draft board. Now we pick the best player regardless of position. I can live with that.

Plus, he’s a solid pro with proven skills. If he’s got pride, he’ll be an asset whether he likes the uniform or not.

  72. avatar Meazii says:

Eddie we share the same thoughts… Don’t respect him at all and he will have to earn my respect as a fan with a few sacks the first couple games.. And once he sacks Henne and Brady then he will have earned it completely! But if he doesn’t play well, he is going to regret becoming a NY Jet… I don’t like the signing but know he will make our defense better, but I just hope he produces a bunch of sacks to get on our good side!

  73. avatar Harvlis says:

More bullets in the gun. I think that Taylor might like playing under Ryan. Although, he is past his prime, he is a true pass-rusher. If Ryan moves him around, he is going to be hard to stop.

Those of you who are still mad about Taylor’s Jet bashing — get over it. When your team has a rivalry, you want the players on your team to care. Let’s hope Taylor is now pissed at the Dolphin’s for not making him a true offer, after all his years of service.

Those of you who think that the Jets are unfairly loading up — the NFL is different than MLB. Although, this season is an uncapped year, there are still guidelines and future cap implications that Tanny has to comply with.

    Up next, Haynesworth!

Pace, Haynesworth, Jenkins, Ellis, Taylor. Sounds so sweet.

  74. avatar They chose me says:

We are all rooting for laundry—

He wears the laundry now. Sign me up.

  75. avatar Jets-Fan-4-Life says:

Time out…. Guys before you punch anyone wearing a Taylor jersey PLEASE make sure that their last name is not Taylor!

There are people that will buy that jersey just because the last name matches their own, so they should not get KO’ed!

However for those who buy this jersey just because of who wears it …. well then you get whats coming to you!

  76. avatar Andy says:

    David N.

Thats is just moronic on what you said. If you feel that way then I agree with all the people here that you better leave then and don’t come back.

Again I dont like this move, but….

IF IT HELPS US WIN A SUPER BOWL THEN FINE WITH ME!

  77. avatar pound4pound says:

A 36-year-old who only had 1.5 sacks in his last ten games last year. Sounds like a non-story to me.

  78. avatar Meazii says:

I pity the fool who buys a Jayson taylor jets jersey! It’s a disgrace!

  79. avatar Randy says:

With all this Ellis talk and Faneca, Thomas being waived.I dont buy into it at all.I think the main issue is that By adding Jason Taylor, it makes guys like Ellis and Thomas expendable to get younger in the draft, but only if it helps us get a top notch replacement.Faneca is the easiest to replace because Offensive Guards tend to slide late in the 1st round, but Defense Ends and Outside Linebackers are hard to find.

Maybe we can use Thomas or Ellis is effort to land a Defensive End such as Derrick Morgan.By notching another draft pick we get younger and find ways to get the player we want afterall.Maybe the Jets can experiment moving Gholston to opposite Defensive End Derrick Morgan and we can move up with our 2nd round pick and other picks to draft a Guard such as Mike Ipupati to replace Faneca.

I dont see the Jets waiving those 3 guys mentioned, however they can use them as trade bait to move up in the draft to land younger talent.

  80. avatar Andy says:

    So My Question to all…

Does Taylor get booed at the Monday night home opener?

  81. avatar cmonleon says:

Booooooooooo let’s hope this season goes quickly to the superbowl so it doesn’t hurt so much to see this ass I hope he does good enough to make me happy but not enough to stay another year. Uuuuuuuuggggggghhhhhhh. This just feels wrong

  82. avatar Marvel says:

People on Twitter love this move .. They are the majority not you ..
    *points finger*

  83. avatar daveb says:

    hard to be objective here.

  84. avatar Ferraro41 says:

I can’t believe I have to now root for that pole smoker. :=(

  85. avatar MaxJets says:

Taylor is a colossal d bag. But since he’ll be wearing the Green and White, I’ll root for him. He needs to play well, real well, beginning on day one. Even then, he’s still a tool.

  86. avatar bleed green 24 says:

I vomitted all over my keyboard when I received the espn alert.

  87. avatar TOON2388 says:

This is going to be tougher than having to root for Boggs, Clemens, and Damon combined

Let’s also hope we address the pass rush in the draft as this is most likely a 1-year deal

  88. avatar Nick P says:

this just means he got tired of losing in Miami and thinks that we have a better chance to get that ring. i never liked the guy but it’s hard to hate someone whose on the team you’ve been a die-hard fan of for life.

i just hop we start focusing on the future and draft young, and resign our young talent cause we have a bunch.

  89. avatar starbuck says:

i rooted for Brian Cox when he came, but i dont know if i can do the same with Taylor…….of all the moves the jets have made, most have made me grin ear to ear, but the JT signing just leaves a sour feeling at the pit of my stomach and ruined that “feel goodness” that i had for months (since the playoff run)….

  90. avatar BamBam says:

Even you TAYLOR HATERS SHOULD BE VERY PLEASED that Rex Ryan and the Jets have a mystique as an irresistible destination for defensive free agents. That train to New England has been rerouted to New Jersey. Some day soon we will land an UFA that will make you Taylor haters to back flips and signing Jason will be a contributing factor to making it happen. So settle down cause your gonna love this later.

  91. avatar jciniello says:

Thanks Jets take a guy we all hate and put him on the team. Sell those PSL’s Woody.

  92. avatar Brendan says:

Inevitable. Anyone who thinks this lessens the need to draft a pass rusher are kidding themselves.

  93. avatar JesusRevis says:

I’m a yankee fan, despised Damon for years, then he came to the Yanks and produced right away – and I liked him.

The same rules apply for Taylor. Produce and we will cheer for you

  94. avatar Lush Greenery says:

Mystique my a@@. He had no other options. Including and especially his beloved flippers.

  95. avatar GeezerJetsFan says:

I’ve been rooting for the Jests since their inception.
You guys know the history. One Super Bowl….1968 Super bowl III
Rex will give Taylor 8 to 15 sacks moving him around driving other offenses crazy.
The FO played this real good giving him respect and he is going to be motivated to win a ring and stick it to his old team.
This is about winning our second Super bowl not a rivalry with the fish. This has been a great off season so far and with Taylor we are a little closer to that goal …..the only goal….another Super Bowl. CARPE DIEUM. Personally I’m getting too old to see anything else in this move.
    J E T S Jets..Jets….Jets.

  96. avatar jets69 says:

What number is he gonna wear. I can’t see Bryan Thomas giving up #99 after 8 years.

    55?

  97. avatar JustaGreenGuy says:

BAMBAM- He took two weeks to sign with the Jets. LT who has been twice the player Taylor is signed with the Jets in a few days.

I could care less about him as a person, but what makes any of you think he is a decent player anymore? The Dolphins wouldn’t even talk to him. He is very slow and his production has hit an all time low. Bellichek, who formerly has gone on record as loving the guy didn’t make a move for him. The only reason this is a story is his name.

  98. avatar ben says:

    this is so dumb.
i hate this guy so much.

  99. avatar JetObsessed28 says:

    So bitter… So sweet…

As Seinfeld once said, “When you get down to it, what you’re really rooting for is the shirt”…

This is going to be awkward..

  100. avatar reality jet fan says:

Sources said that he didnt want to leave but miami gave him no choice.Anfd his heart is with miami fans. Root for this guy never.

  101. avatar NJets says:

People take this move so personally. He is a hall of fame situational pass rusher who will play a small specific roll in our elite number one defense. Grow up people. This is a good move. Im going to operate under the assumption that Rex Ryan knows more about football and defense, than us the fans. So if he targeted him, its for a reason. It wasn’t to create drama, or bring in the ultimate Dolphin. Its because it makes sense for our defense.

  102. avatar Brendan says:

    RJF,

I root for this guy when he plays during games for the Jets. Everyone else should grow up a little and do the same.

  103. avatar reality jet fan says:

Please stop with this crap that he came here for rex or a ring. He came here because miami didnt sign him.And he came here to further his career after football. Hysterical reading stuff that he is here for other reasons.

  104. to all of the fans that are pissed about the JT move…chill out a bit.

we needed to improve our pass rush…and we did. JT is a guy who recorded 7 sacks last year alone. This guy is a proven competitor at the professional level. I don’t want to hear “he’s old” or “he’s gonna suck” or anything like that. 7 SACKS! LAST YEAR!

Professional football is a business. get over it. i’m sure a lot of the people who are all sally sad pants about JT were the same way when chad pu$$ington was traded to Miami. This stuff happens and in both circumstances the jets are better off.

JT knows the schematics of the MIA defense inside and out. I’m sure he’ll be able to share some insight on the mild cat that they run too…

  105. avatar reality jet fan says:

Its grown up to root for a player who has insulted us and does not want to be here?

  106. avatar MEL31602@aol.com says:

    http://sports.espn.go.com/new-york/nfl/news/story?id=5119342&campaign=rss&source=NFLHeadlines

For those wondering how the Jets can sign Taylor to such a big deal with the Final Eight rules this article explains it. Apparently the extra 2 million he’s getting is a roster bonus

  107. avatar BKWRXWgn says:

All the dislike of JT aside all that matters is that JT performs this season. If he does what he is brought on for I think he’ll win over those fans that dislike him. He’s not the biggest pick up by the Jets just a mere component of a promising 2010 season….

  108. avatar Neon Leon 29 says:

That’s it! Einhorn is Finkle. Finkle is Einhorn. Einhorn IS A MAN!

  109. avatar starz31 says:

Bent, you and the rest of your country is “flyin’ blind” right about now.

    ;)

  110. avatar reality jet fan says:

I guess he couldnt find a job anywhere else. Dolphin fans should be laughing at us.He could care less about a ring

  111. avatar Brendan says:

    RJF,

Ok. He said some mean things. I’m willing to bet every dime that I have that he’s endured 40358208234895235 times harsher comments.

And have you been to Jets games? Because let’s be honest it’s a horrible experience if you’re wearing anything other than green & white. I take it as a compliment when opposing players/coaches/fans trash talk us. It means we’re getting to them.

Am I going to boo him just because he was a rival for so long? No. He played his tail off against us, and had some epic battles against this team. I can respect that. And he’s on our team now. So am I going to complain and pout or embrace?

  112. avatar JustaGreenGuy says:

Revis Pressly- 1.5 sacks in his last ten games and 3 were against a Buffalo team that had no O line early in the year. That sounds like an old, declining player to me.

  113. avatar tish says:

I haven’t been speechless in years. So at least Taylor made my wife happy

  114. i wouldn’t say that JT “doesn’t want to be here” considering that he literally JUST signed a contract indicating that he is going to be a jet.

all of this is ancillary, the dude had 7 sacks last year alone. how many sacks did we have as a team last year?

  115. avatar NJets says:

Take it personally if you want, I know I wont. I could care less about what this guy thinks or says after games.

He was part of a rivalry and in many ways, he kept it interesting. Rex wanted him and Ill operate under the assumption that he had good reasons to want him. End of story. I just want to win. I dont need role models on my team, or NY kool aid drinking players.

  116. avatar reality jet fan says:

This is so funny watching some jet fans convincing themselves that he actually wanted to com here lol!

  117. avatar JetMetVet says:

Does the Jets shop already have the half-off Jason Taylor NY Jets jerseys on sale yet?

I’d tell the boys and girls in Cambodia to hold off on printing many of those…

  118. avatar BamBam says:

    JustaGreenGuy

When Miami stopped talking to Taylor it was very Parceliam. They were trying to manage the situation because they knew that they probably couldn’t get him back even though the odds were totally stacked in their favor at the onset of free agency. The “siren song” from Rex, Tradenbaum and Rexy was irresistible!

  119. avatar SackDance99 says:

Okay, all you Yankee fans can say it’s like Boggs, Damon or Clemens, but while Boggs might’ve been the face of the BoSox for a long time, he never went out of his way to diss Yankee fans and, if memory serves me right, he mostly bashed the Mets, which Yankees fans love. I’m a Mets fan and to me this is Tom Glavine all over again. Let’s hope if the season is on the line in week 17 against the Dolphins, Taylor gives a better effort than Glavine did on September 30, 2007 against the Marlins when he pitched .1 innings and gave up 7 earned runs in a must win game.

On a positive note, I hope he wears #56 so all Giants fans can hate him, too.

  120. avatar JesusRevis says:

    Justagreenguy,

He also managed 2 sacks and 2 ff against New Orleans, a team who we couldnt get ANY pressure on.

He was also losing playing time to younger OLB’s. The Dolphins were trying to give more reps to Wake which took snaps away from Taylor and Porter.

And the guy still managed 7 sacks, which would have been second most on our team

  121. avatar JetMetVet says:

Jason Taylor, jokes on you! There was a poison pill “water boy” clause in the contract! We can use you for any position we want!

Anyway… Ra Ra Ra…. I’ll get behind this one soon…Just give me some time..

  122. avatar Brendan says:

    SD,

Glavine got an out that game? As a Mets fan I just remember the pummeling like I’d remember getting my rear end kicked by teenagers 10 years my senior when I was 8. Just glimpses of pain, and not much else.

I agree with your analogy as well. One last paycheck, could perform solidly, but when it comes down to it he’s not going to kill himself for the Jets. As long as people have reasonable expectations Taylor should fill them.

  123. JustaGreenGuy, – thats a good point, honestly. i didnt realize that…

but…take away those 3 sacks against buffalo and JT STILL has 4 sacks…right up there with harris and (5.5) and Ellis (6.5).

i mean we can splice and dice all we want, but its demonstrated that the guy can still play ball and he is now a jet. thats all im saying ya know?

has the guy talked s hit about the jets and pi$$ed me off a lot? yes he has.

hasnt that made the rivalry more interesting? its a business. plain and simple. we were ready to commit to taylor, to make him feel wanted, to pay him. so he went with us.

    i think its great

  124. avatar sunsetmusic says:

a little disgusted but if it leads to a superbowl then im all in….it will take aaaaaaahhhhh two hours to get over it, than im screaming J-E-T-S>>>JETS!!!!JETS!!!!JETS!!!!!! like a psycho from my backyard deck…..

  125. avatar Bent says:

Mel – thanks for the link. It doesn’t actually explain the situation very well. Piecing things together, if he’s getting $1.75m in the first year (all guaranteed) then I believe $500k must have been characterized as a signing bonus so that the cap number is only $1.5m and matches Feely’s.

The other year one money ($1.25m to $2m) must be in the form of an incentive or escaltor that doesn’t need to be accounted for..

Use of a conventional roster bonus would not work because such bonuses count when you comply with the 30% rule. It must be some kind of conditional completion bonus or characterized as a not likely to be earned incentive.

If the report I read that the maximum total value is $13m is accurate, there must be some other, similar, incentives in year two.

  126. avatar starz31 says:

Sd, brendan, this could be very similar to Pedro, circa 2005, signing with he Yanks instead of Mets. It couldve been.

And I was watching Glavine on my computer screen while watching the bills beat the jets on my tv screen…it was an ugly day all around. Last time John Maine actually delivered(the day before, that is)

  127. avatar EpidemikE says:

Ive created a fffuuuuuu puic because this is that bad…

I mean, honestly, who thinks that Jason taylor is the key to the Jets winning a superbowl…not me. Then again Im not Rex Ryan or Mr. T but the added salt in the wound that its a former dolphin that hates the Jets.

  128. avatar sunsetmusic says:

    SD<

as a diehard hurting Mets fan…..I never could wrap myself around the Glavine signing, but learned to just root for the win, so I am sure I'll get over it…besides I cant allow this signing to sour the excitement ive built up since last year…can"t let JT do that to us……

  129. avatar Big_Papi says:

He apparently turned down $2million from the Dulphins, he feels the jets are closer to the championship.

  130. avatar Mike24 says:

Not in love with this move but its a done deal so we need to look ahead to a bright future.

And the talk about JT bein a bad guy or douche is kind of petty and ridiculous. Happens to be a great guy and does everything and then some for the community down here in South Florida and is respected by everybody. He’s a great passionate player for our rival and we hate him for it. We wouldnt want anything less from any of our players. This was a hard decision for him and he still made it. Put yourself in his shoes he’s like Mr. Miami…what would you do. Obviously he wants to win or we wouldve taken even longer to sign if at all.

  131. avatar reality jet fan says:

wHY IS jt GOING TO LEAD US TO A sb

  132. avatar Brendan says:

starz…..how dare you. Maine’s ERA is almost in single digits before May! Hold your tongue.

  133. avatar JustaGreenGuy says:

He is a situational pass rusher. If he gets sacks I’m happy. If he doesn’t I’ll be happy to boo him out of NY.

  134. avatar michael says:

favre helped packers the evil arch enemy vikings and now lets hope taylor whose days are numbered really wants a super bowl ring. he knows every tackle in the east and with rex he can get sacks. look out henne . this season is going to be fun

  135. avatar BubbyBrister/shovelpass says:

JesusRevis – Good analogy with Johnny Damon, except this reeks more of Jason Bay hemming and hawning about signing with NY.

This guy is a colossal jack-hole. And similar to when D. Strawberry signed with the Yanks, I will not cheer for this a$$wipe, but I will cheer for my team.

I think I need a shower after this move…Now i know how Rothlisberger would feel if he slept with his sister…

  136. avatar odinseye says:

    Wow!

Talk about a team getting old fast.

Way to mortgage the future REX.

  137. avatar Brendan says:

Mortgage the future? You mean the future $1.75 million that he’s getting paid?

  138. avatar Brendan says:

    RJF,

No one is saying he’s leading us to the Superbowl. They’re saying if this helps the team get over the hump and to the Superbowl it’ll be worth it.

  139. avatar SackDance99 says:

    Brendan,

My head says this is a great move. Rex is a defensive genius, Taylor is a talented pass rusher and will only be asked to be a pass rush specialist, like Charles Haley, which is the analogy that Taylor supporters should make. Although he wasn’t as old when he made the move, he went from the 49ers to Dallas, who hate each other (esp. when he left in ’91 coming off of a Pro Bowl year) and ended up being a Pro Bowler and All-Pro as a pass rush specialist with the Cowboys and a fan favorite.

As a football move, my only concern is his age, but he seems to keep himself in great shape. My problem is that I wonder whether he will give the same effort with the Jets that he gave to dancing in “Dancing with the Stars.” I just don’t see him busting his butt as a Jet. He’ll get a hang nail when its under 40 degrees and sit out.

  140. avatar JesusRevis says:

    Bent,

Any thoughts on this Lomabardi article regarding Faneca, Ellis and Thomas? I know its on another thread, but this seems to be the how thread at the moment.

I just dont see the reward in releasing Faneca, the offensive line would have to suffer drastically. And Ellis isnt making that much money? What gives?

  141. avatar odinseye says:

    Brendan,

I wasn’t refering to the JT deal specifically.
I was refering to all of Rex’s moves in general.

Ryan’s carrying on like he’s at an all you can eat buffet.

  142. avatar Bent says:

Remember, Lombardi said he wouldn’t be a pass rush specialist and that he’d be used mainly to play the run. I believe he said JT was a liability in the passing game unless both he and Porter rushed the passer together.

  143. avatar Brendan says:

    SD,

I agree with the Haley comparison. People are either expecting too much or letting the decision get to them on a personal level, but he’s not going to be atrocious and he’s not going to rack up 15 sacks, either (realistically).

Age is a serious concern. But as you said he’s one of those guys who seems never to age. It will be interesting to watch. I think that Rex will have no issues sitting Taylor if he’s not performing or dogging it (or at least I pray that he would). The worry is always there, but I think if Taylor buys into the program and just does his job he’ll be a Jet that people can at least respect, but probably never like.

  144. avatar Brendan says:

    odinseye,

That would be Tanny, not Rex. And they’ve gotten excellent value for each trade they have made.

  145. avatar Bent says:

JR – my detailed thoughts are on that thread if you run a search for my name.

Cliff notes – it’s understandable they’d look to replace all three but releasing them now makes no sense (unless they really need to save the money) and trading them isn’t going to return much value.

  146. avatar SackDance99 says:

Not a good analogy with Damon, who was a long-time KC Royal before he joined the BoSox. And, the face of the BoSox franchise was not Damon, it was Big Papi, Manny and/or Varitek. Damon was strictly an important complementary player. Same with Clemens, who had a major ax to grind against the BoSox because he had to play with the Blue Jays to regain his form before he became a Yank and must’ve been dying to get even. Yes, Favre was motivated and great playing for the Pack’s no. 1 rival Vikings, but he kind of mailed in his effort as a Jet…and I like Favre. Big question is whether we will get the Jason Taylor who was the face of the Dolphins franchise and a great competitor or a vet mailing it in for his final paycheck?

  147. avatar Ryan says:

He absolutely did not want to come here. Get your facts straight if you actually think he did. He was quoted as saying “I either go there or retire.” So, yes…he’d rather come here than retire..if that makes you feel better.
I think Rex will use him perfectly…and we might see him have moderate success…I still think he should platoon with B.Thomas, depending on pass or run downs…
and can we please stop comparing this to Yankee or Mets signings of the past…

  148. I hate this guy. Now I am really hoping that sometime between September -January I can change that sentence to: I hated this guy.

As noted, cool that fish fans will hate it and feel betrayed – always a silver lining!

  149. avatar brian311 says:

hate this move, especially in the context of the lombardi post talking about cutting proven vets like faneca, ellis and BT to save money. they could have saved $2.5m by not doing this deal. the fact that they guaranteed money in 2011 and therefore causing a cap hit when we cut his corpse prior to 2011 is beyond me.

for all of those in the “he will only be asked to do one thing, rush the passer. he will be an asset, etc” that may be true against teams like the bills. but put jason taylor in the AFC championship game vs the pats or colts and he does not make an impact because he never sees the field. Peyton Manning just goes hurry up to prevent substitutions. I just dont see a guy like Taylor, with little if anything left, being able to contribute to a championship in those type of playoff games.

    i hope i am wrong.

  150. avatar Green Lantern says:

Im Happy He Will Be A Good Situational Pass Rusher. Now we can draft a Worrids, or a Norwood and let them develop for a year.

    GO JETS!!!

  151. avatar Green Lantern says:

And Let Me Correct This JT isn’t going to lead us to the Super Bowl…He just will help put this defense over the top.

  152. avatar bernie says:

I think this is an awful move for two reasons:

    1. Taylor will be 36 years old and is not even close to the player he was in his prime.

    2. This will affect who we draft – make no mistake about it. Tannenbaum thinks the pass rush problem is solved. In a year we’ll be talking again about how pass rush is our biggest need.

  153. avatar JerryB says:

As long as he realizes he is a situational player and not a star, I’m all for it. We were the only buyer in the market which says a lot about his star power.

  154. avatar Brendan says:

It’s not a news flash that Taylor isn’t “close to the palyer he was in his prime”. It’s why we’re getting him for $1.75-$3.75 million instead of $10mil+.

  155. avatar Marvel says:

You get vets thru FA … You get young thru the draft .. Sheesh ..
Where all my bridge jumpers at ? Lol … Ok found a couple ..

  156. avatar hangar says:

    JT
Come in do your job, keep your mouth shut and get some sacks fast…or Jet fans will be all over your A@@.

Don’t care for the person but as many have said, as long as he is in Green & white, I will root for him to help the team.

  157. avatar MARS says:

Off-topic – Carriker was traded to the redskins for a swap of 5th rounders….I know he underperformed his draft position for a 4-3 DT but I still think he’d make for a very goood 3-4 DE

  158. avatar SackDance99 says:

    odinseye,

I think if you look at each move, there’s a legitimate football reason arising from Rex’s experience as a DC with the Ravens or, in LT’s case, Schotty’s experience with the Chargers. Cromartie was a guy Dennis Thurman scouted when he was with the Ravens and called his pro day workout the best he’d ever seen by a CB…the Ravens defensive staff wanted him. So, it’s no surprise that Rex, who loves DBs , jumped at the chance to get him. He saw Pool, Holmes and Edwards twice a year as the Ravens’ DC and called Holmes the toughest WR he had to defend (Holmes killed the Ravens in his career). Taylor is a bit of an outlier, but I’ll guess that Rex/Tanny did not want to enter the draft feeling they had to get a pass rusher and then rely on him for 2010. Taylor helps alleviate the pressure on whomever they will draft.

  159. avatar SackDance99 says:

    Ryan,

How about hockey? Like when the Rangers signed Bobby Holik or Guy LaFleur?

  160. avatar Brendan says:

Or what about David Lee signing with the Nets?

….What? That didn’t happen yet? Oh, well call me on July 1st and I’ll post that one again.

  161. avatar JesusRevis says:

    SackDance,

Us yankee fans hated Damon, even if it was partially because of his long hair and beard.

Maybe not the best analogy, but he was a player I hated and then learned to like when he came to my team and produced

  162. avatar CGB says:

    J.eT.s???
If he is below par – he doesn’t paly.
If he reaches anywhere near an “average season” the jets improved their pass rush.
Stop the HS crying about loyalty and nonsense. the roster is better at 5pm than it was at 1pm.

  163. avatar EnoughTalk says:

    Meazii and Eddie DiGio –

i didint insult you or anyone on here or the JETS and I am not trolling, i read alot fo different blogs around AFC info.

Still my point is very accurate if Taylor performs you all will not be hating him at all…

Best of luck and keep the inlsults and hating to a minimum.

    Peace

  164. avatar Ryan says:

You can’t really use hockey because the Rangers sign anyone and everyone and it never works out for them…which is lovely every time

According to PFT, the steelers schedule leaked and looks like we play them 3rd to last game

  165. avatar Brendan says:

    Hank,

I’m going to the Miami game this year. I may buy Taylor’s jersey just to wear at that game.

  166. avatar john l says:

I LOVE IT!!!!!!!! EVEN IF HE BLOWS I STILL LOVE THIS MOVE.

  167. avatar Bent says:

Mortgaging the future would require doing something which will actually have a long term impact on the future. They’ve traded two picks and acquired two back and haven’t signed any contracts past 2010 yet.

Brian – the contract had to have a cap number of $1.5m in the first year, so they probably had to guarantee future monies to get him aboard at that price.

    I’m stunned about Carriker.

Sol Campbell to Arsenal is the best example. He still gets booed by Spurs fans, but the death threats have died down (although it took several years) Arsenal fans welcomed him from the start, but he didn’t perform as well. That was actually worse because he was in his prime.

  168. avatar AKA....Drew says:

    Brendan

You going to Miami game also?? …nice.!! Me and my bot try and make that trip every year.

  169. avatar Jets-Fan-4-Life says:

Watch I bet A Thomas will be cut from the Pat tomorrow.

Since I’m on the topic…. I guess that means Daren Sharper just missed the boat to be a Jet.

  170. avatar Lush Greenery says:

Its not like any of those that you’ve mentioned. To me – it’s like the Yankees signing Kevin Dickiless – I mean Youkiliis.

  171. avatar SackDance99 says:

    Ryan,

Except when the Rangers became the New York Oilers and signed every available Stanley Cup-winning Edmonton Oiler possible in 1994 to pair with Messier and Graves.

  172. avatar AKA....Drew says:

    Jesus

As a Yankee fan there certainly wasnt any love lost for Damon but he wasnt hated as more annoying. pedro was hated

Its more like Reggie Miller signing with the Knicks.

Either way at the end of the day he is here and I will root for him to make plays

  173. avatar Ryan says:

Carriker, Howard Green…Haynesworth may be on his way out…where to though ?

Please dont say to the Jets

  174. avatar Brendan says:

Haha wow Bent, I didn’t know Campbell got it that bad. But then again, few fans are as die-hard (if any) as EPL fans.

    Drew,

Same as you, I’m planning it. I handed in my vacation request and all it says is “Some week in the fall I’ll be in Miami. I’ll let you know this week”. But hopefully it’s a nice late November/December game that I get to skip out on some cold weather for.

  175. avatar Brendan says:

And Drew…I’m impressed you haven’t posted endless posts each with just one of George Carlin’s “7 words you can’t say on television” in it, all caps, about 1,000 characters long for emphasis.

  176. avatar Bent says:

JF4L – unless he gets a UFA tender from the Saints on June 1st, Sharper will be able to sign for the Jets in the last week of July.

If AD becomes available, the Jets should add him too. You can never have too many good players and he’s versatile enough to be very useful. I doubt they will add him, but wouldn’t rule it out completely.

  177. avatar JesusRevis says:

    AKA Drem,

I dont like the Reggie Miller comparison because he was hated by Knicks fans because he constantly killed us. Taylor on the other hand has been dominated by the Jets for the majority of his career.

  178. avatar JesusRevis says:

    sorry drew, not drem

  179. avatar Brendan says:

In regards to Sharper, I think he’s holding out for the draft, seeing if the Jets pick up another safety, and if they don’t I think he lobbies hard to be brought in. And he should. And they should bring him in. He’s a ball hawk and Rex’s defense would provide him with just as many chances for big plays as Gregg Williams’ did.

  180. avatar AKA....Drew says:

    Brendan

Like I said I didnt want him here but now thats he is here I am on board….Iol

I root for the jersey not the man…..

  181. avatar Brendan says:

Ok. Taylor wasn’t dominated by the Jets. His teams might have been, but Taylor gave the Jets headaches for a decade. Let’s give credit where it is due.

  182. avatar OzzyBSK says:

I hope JT can get to the quarterback faster than he got to the Jets. This was a drawn out process. At least he agreed to sign before the draft.

  183. avatar Brendan says:

Hah oh I know. But I think about how I would have felt if they traded for Cutler last year (which was what my big offseason campaign was about, or against, whatever) and I would have had to unplug my computer for fear of being banned from commenting here.

  184. avatar AKA....Drew says:

    Jesus

Thats why Taylor is worse he talked more than Miller and got beat by us every time….

But again if he gives us half of what he once was he will be fine….. After he gets Brady a few times I am sure I will changed my tune

  185. avatar Super T says:

Haven’t read all the comments on this one yet, but how can 2 yrs @ 13M = 1 yr @ 3.75M?

  186. avatar 96DEBACLE says:

well the only good thing i can say about this. we atleast will get two solid games from him when we face Miami.

now if we can just get our hands on A. Thomas when he’s cut before training camp….

all these signings remind me of the Skins. guess it back to calling us the Jetskins for a whole other reason

  187. avatar Bent says:

Not a knicks fan, so correct me if I’m wrong…

Didn’t Reggie basically earn begrudging respect from MSG and get a decent “worthy adversary” send off in his farewell tour-style last season?

Had JT just retired, you think he’d have got the same response in The Slinky?

I wonder what response he’ll get in Miami. My guess is similar to Chad, who I think will revert to being a popular ex-Jet once his career ends.

  188. avatar Matty D says:

    boooooo

  189. avatar D_PO says:

I can’t stand him. I genuinely dislike everything about Taylor and they way he goes about his business.

  190. avatar Brendan says:

    Bent,

You’re right about Reggie. Us Garden Faithful haaaaaaated his guts, but respective the hell outta him.

  191. avatar Brendan says:

    *respected

  192. avatar Bent says:

Super T – plenty of incentive money in year two, which is unlikely to be paid unless he has an incredible year, so the assumption is they’ll release him or renegotiate at that point.

  193. avatar Ryan says:

I loved Reggie Miller by the end of his career and always respected him. He was just on a different team. He was just an immense competitor and really, really good. Hard to hate the man, easy to hate the fact that he killed the Knicks in games they should have won…but thats what you get for being a Knicks fan i guess

Bent – ESPN did a 30:30 special on Reggie Miller vs. The Knicks that I thought was excellent…check it out if you’re interested

  194. avatar Crazy Jets Fan!!! says:

BKWRXWgn – I’m with you. He’s a Dolphin who wanted to stay a Dolphin. At the end of the day, they didn’t want him and he’s a Jet now. If he helps us….who cares?

  195. avatar AKA....Drew says:

okay I will admit that reading Taylors agents comments right niow are annoying me bigtime….not something I didnt know already but really annoyed with why its being said..

  196. avatar MIKE says:

i cant wait to see taylor and the jets against the fins

  197. avatar Bent says:

Thanks Ryan, but I’ve actually seen it already. One of my best friends is a huge Pacers/Miller fan and he downloaded it a few weeks ago.

  198. avatar belvey631 says:

It will be so bitter-sweet for Taylor if we win the SB. He finally gets a ring but not with dolphins, he had to join the jets to get it. Muhaahaaha!!!

  199. avatar burf says:

This is a tough one… as is watching the extent Woody will go to, to sell his new stadium.
I’ve been a Jets fan for a zillion years… starving for Vince on *our* mantle, but I never liked how Steinbrenner put the Yankees together. And I’m seeing lots of similarities, without our Gene Michael, to keep Woody in check. After all these years, this just doesn’t seem to be the way for us to get to the promised land.
That said, since VG is still on the team, maybe JT can teach him some things.

  200. avatar Max says:

I never like this move but it’s done. Nothing I can do about it. My feeling at this point is that Jason Taylor needs to be productive right away this upcoming season to stem off the impending negative reaction he will surely encounter if fans think he is just an old over-the-hill football player. If he gets 6 or more sacks, is a diruptive force and we win the SB every fan will forget or at least will minimize JT being a Jet. I hope this one year rental works out. I also hope that he truly most desperately wants a ring. In Rex I trust…..I say this because this signing has the potential of not only alienating fans but of blowing-up in the locker room. One need to keep in mind to be a championship TEAM one needs chemistry not just a bunch of talented players with huge egos. I will keep my fingers crossed:)

  201. avatar James in TN says:

Let’s face it he signed so he could be on hard knocks on HBO.

In the spirit of must watch TV, I hope to see Jason break his leg in HD on “Hard Knocks” after D’Brick Pancakes him. That would be worth the $1.34 million to see that.

Otherwise, it was a very STUPID move.

Why don’t we sign Rapelisberger as a backup QB? Makes as much sense as this move.

    Go JETS!!!!

  202. avatar Jim says:

    dislike X 1,000,000,000

  203. avatar MrJetGreen says:

Jason, raise your right hand and repeat after me……… J-E-T-S, Jets Jets Jets….you are now sworn in.

  204. avatar Crazy Jets Fan!!! says:

burf – Sorry, I completely disagree. I’ve also been a Jets and Yankees fan for a long time. It took over 15 years for me to see the Yankees win in my lifetime and I wouldn’t trade their dominance for anything. I only hope the moves the Jets make year and year out help them accomplish this… Sure beats losing every year.

  205. I’m not happy about this but I will root for anyone wearing the green and white.

I do not look forward to seeing any Jet fans wearing his jersey.

  206. I am just not clear on why Rex & Tanny seem to be convinced that he’ll play hard for us, when it took him what seemed like a month to make a decision.

  207. avatar clint says:

As a person you might not like him but as a player he will do some good things for us. With Rex coaching him anything is possible. Not to mention injuries can happen at any point and I would feel better with Taylor filling in rather than Vernon.

  208. avatar gjet93 says:

As the immortal Dean Wormer said in “Animal House” “I hate the guys”.
I have to give myself a time out to get over it.

can you post a link to twinkletoes’s agent’s latest comments?

    thanks

  210. avatar reality jet fan says:

Odinseye ,I dont think you are aware that you are not allowed to criticize rex ryan no mattter what. You must get in line with whatever they do or you will be ripped as a bad jet fan.

  211. avatar hank/naples says:

Taylor is a smart, tough, dedicated ,EXPERIENCED football player. He has enough left in the tank to make a definite, NOTICEABLE, impact on the Jets D. Opposing coaches will have to plan against him!!!!

That said, I can’t wait to see the intro presser and hear him say why he come over . Incredible!!!!

  212. avatar Brandon from Illinois says:

JT just wants to be on HBO. Am I the only one who sees the that? He’s already been on dancing with the stars and he has shown interest in a career after football. I’m sure he sees the Jets as a stepping stone. I’m not going to stop being a fan or anthing, but I can’t help but be worried about the guy’s intentions. I’d be a little less concerned, if the Dolphins weren’t switching defensive coordinators. Taylor won’t even be able to offer inside info on the Dolphins scheme. He better help the pass rush and make positive plays.

  213. avatar reality jet fan says:

Ofcourse we will all root for him if he plays well and helps the jets. But please just no talk of him coming here for any wonderful reasons. The money ,no offer from dolphins , and a chance to further his career.

  214. avatar JetsFan65 says:

”If you cant beat ‘em, join ‘em”. And thats exactly how Taylor feels. He knows that he has his best chance of winning a ring and playing his best football with the Jets.

He only has a few years left in his career so why would he sign with us if he didnt want to win or play well? Believe me he does because doesn’t want to be remembered as a washed up loser.

I got tired of waiting for him to sign but he did so before the draft so all we can do now is wait and see this hopefully work out for everyone.

Also, I am pretty sure that us fans will be getting a public apology from him.

Rex beleives he can play well and that’s what counts!

  215. avatar JETS4LIFE says:

got the inside scoop. JETS have 5 night games this year.
    1. Home opener MNF vs. the Ravens
    2. Sunday night @ Miami in Sept
    3. MNF vs Vikings in Oct
    4. Thanksgiving vs Bengals
    5. MNF @ NE in December

    you heard it here first

  216. avatar reality jet fan says:

On every media outlet announcing the trade mentions how the dolphins didnt offer him anything so he picked the jets.

  217. avatar The Ed(itor) says:

He is not a criminal but he sure is clASSless!

Again Woody sticks it to JETS fans by signing the biggest JACKXSS and insulter of JETS fans. First it was a new stadium that we didn’t need, then it was PSLs to pay for the $125 million in new profits to Woody, then it was higher ticket prices, then it was moving training camp to Cortland NY and now it is signing the original JACHXSS Jason Taylor.,

  218. avatar reality jet fan says:

He would be a dolphin if they wanted him. He doesnt care about a ring if that was his objective what took him so long.

    Please bro…just stop it

Unless we got Peyton Manning for a 4th round draft choice, you’d have something to say about it.

Its the incessant bitc#ing and moaning, after every move, questioning one of the best defensive coaches in football, who like it or not, people are going to take his word over Joe Schmo off the street…

Bottom line is…Rex knows more than you do, and until proven wrong, people are going to back him

  221. avatar MIKE says:

    jetsfan56

you shouldnt put it that way.. remember that they beat us twice..

it should be.. if you want to win a ring, join em

  222. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

You’re allowed to say he should have called a timeout…but you cant tell him how to run a defense

  223. avatar reality jet fan says:

I would like to know why do so many jet fans need to believe he wanted to be here? He hates us the franchise and the city. Why do so many jet fans need him to want to be here? Does it make you feel etter about the jets.

  224. avatar reality jet fan says:

You guys are making way too big a deal out of this. This was a minor move which could only affect us positively.

Its not the end of the world. You guys need to get over it or stop being a Jets fan.

I’m happy with my team, 3 great moves out weigh 1 iffy move!

And the Draft will add to the great moves!

  227. avatar reality jet fan says:

You dont know until he steps on the field…

his wife may be a real piece of work, his kids may have cried “daddy we want you in Florida, why do you have to go”, he may have wanted to look at houses or apartments before hand…he also may have wanted to go on vacation and said “Im not dealing with anyone until I get back”

but you dont know because you’re not there, the same way I dont know, but Im not wasting my time with this all season like its the first time this has ever happened in sports

  229. avatar reality jet fan says:

An eddie if rex trade sanchez for jason taylor you would spin it as a great move

  230. avatar SackDance99 says:

Now, why would Woody, who wants to sell PSLs, sign the player Jets fans uniformly hate more than any other NFL player, with Brady being the lone possible exception? If Woody wanted to sell PSLs, Chad would be back and Wayne Chrebet would be offensive coordinator. Sorry, Editor, but calling the Jason Taylor move something Woody wanted is plain loco.

This is a Rex Ryan move. He wanted to sign JT last season and must have a definite idea on how he wants to use him in his defense. I disagree with the move because I can’t stand JT. But, I’ll guarantee that this is a move that neither Tanny, nor Woody would have ever contemplated. If you have to “blame” or credit anyone, the buck stops with Rex on this one.

  231. avatar JetsFan65 says:

Good point Mike! But we have beat them way more over Taylor’s career as well so maybe that fact doesn’t make my comment look as bad lol

  232. avatar reality jet fan says:

I loved the b edwards move and the holmes and cro moves. Thought they were brilliant moves. But dont like bring in the old men jt and lt

  233. avatar reality jet fan says:

You are right eddie but why do some jet fans need that to be happy?

  234. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

you wanna know whats going to piss me off…

cutting Ellis, Faneca and Bryan Thomas with no means to sign UFAs and not getting anything in return…that will SICKEN me…you wont see me on this site for a LONG LONG time if that happens

  235. avatar James in TN says:

Why did we sign JT? I thought the cheerleaders were doing just fine with the dance coach they already have. I hope we trade our 1st , 2nd ,4th and Jason Taylor to Oakland for the 8 spot to draft Berry. That would be awesome!!!

  236. avatar Crazy Jets Fan!!! says:

JETS4LIFE – Is this true? In 28 years of following the Jets, they’ve been lucky to get a MNF game here or there. This is insanely awesome!!!

    dont insult my intelligence…

I would never do that and you know damn well I wouldnt…

We didnt give up anything to get Jason Taylor, which is why I frankly dont give a damn…

But when these people try to tell Rex how to run his defense, when they couldnt even tell you the names of the formations, I tell them to shut up

  238. avatar reality jet fan says:

Get rid of faneca and i might explode.

  239. avatar reality jet fan says:

Eddie i was joking buddy you know that. Believe you know your stuff i have told u that many times.

  240. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

  245. avatar NamVetJet says:

Think what is great about the off season moves is that we got some quality football players that meet our needs and the cost has been minor. Thank you Mr. T.

If you are wearing the laundry, I’m with you.

  246. avatar reality jet fan says:

Eddie you really think that JT is a good move?

  247. avatar rusty sanchez says:

as long as he keeps his mouth shut has some production and dosent turn the rest of this team into a bunch of scissoring freaks ill only boo him a little bit

  248. avatar john l says:

watch we include him in a block buster trade to a team in the NFC with draft picks and ellis and faneca as well for this eric berry guy and REX comes out and says ” yeah we really did not want him but i wanted to get him out of the division anyway so %$#% him!
that my friends would be priceless!

  249. avatar reality jet fan says:

I think he helps make guys like DH, Pace, Ellis and the kid we draft this weekend jobs a lot easier…you cant just not block Jason Taylor, he’s not out there drooling picking boogers, he still has some ability left…

There is also the potential that he doesnt pick up the scheme or doesnt like how he is being used, and becomes a whining malcontent..

Until I see how he looks in a game, It could be a great move or an epic failure

  251. avatar Give Leon The Damn Ball says:

is JT better at pressuring the QB than Bryan Thomas and Vernon Gholston? YES!

i cant stand the guy, but if you dont think this improves our team then you dont know squat about football.

The NY Post is just showing the same story that Lombardi wrote on NFP…

None of the Jets beat writers have confirmed this or Schefter…right now its pure speculation plus The Post is a tabloid, and its a juicy story…

Hope they are wrong about this

  253. avatar Marvel says:

    Eddie …

You have very good points .. I like how you don’t complicate every little move .. Sometimes a one move is just one move , nothing more nothing less .. Thanks for not jumping off the bridge at every turn .. ( I let the fact that you don’t like TM slide because your usually on point 95% of the time)

  254. avatar Marvel says:

  258. avatar Greene Machine says:

Like him or not, it makes the Jets better and the Dolphins worse.

  259. avatar MIKE says:

Damn.. we got the ravens for the opening night..

i wanted to start off with the fins

  260. avatar MIKE says:

damn.. we got 3 MNF games… i thought you can only get one MNF game

  261. avatar WOJF says:

Digusting that we are paying this ass $4M and going cheap with the players that got us here.

This cant go over well in the clubhouse, and no I have not read the thousand comments before this but I presume most agree.

I am very afraid for the chemistry of this team, sorry to be so negative but we are going to regret this signing.

  262. avatar F-16 says:

First off I don’t like the guy, but let me ask myself this… Do I dislike him because he was a horrible football player or do I dislike him because he had a big mouth? O’… wait a minute… I heard somewhere that my coach has a big mouth…Hmmm… and a lot of people don’t like him.

Imagne if you broke your a$$ for your company for 12-13 years and and when it came time to talk about your future they broke the appointment with you. How would you feel? Then to top it off a rookie coach who had the #1 defense a few months ago called you last year and this year and said “I want you on my team.”

We know we are not getting the same JT who was a pain in our butts on defence for years but there is a lot to be said for a veteren’s presence. Aside from that… Taylor knows he’s walking into the lion’s den… and as a veteren of the sport he feels that walking into the lions den is the last chance he’ll ever have to win the big one so thats the risk he’s willing to take. I think that and signing with us before the draft to help us in the draft deserves a little credit. Go Jets

  263. avatar Jeff says:

    Think of the irony.

Imagine a Dolphins fan wearing his beloved 99 jersey to a Jets vs Phins game?

    THINK OF THE IRONY!!!!

  264. avatar MegaTell says:

    I hat this but I won’t stop being a fan but I won’t buy PSL’s.

  265. avatar JP in LA says:

Basset/Bent– am I crazy or is there a chance Jason Taylor retires just before the season starts. That would be the ultimate **** heel move and it just might be what he wants. I’m a Jets fan. So paranoia is the norm.

  266. avatar Blake Geller says:

Great move..the jets needed a good pass rusher…they got him….hre is surrounded by good locker rooom guys tthat will keep him and holmes out of trouble..idk what there gna do in the draft now….THEY HAVE EVERYTHING

  267. avatar LeRevis says:

I love it, think about it guys, he could help vernon gholston out. Also Rex promised this man 15 sacks, you have to have a whole lotta cahonnes to promise anyone that. I trust this move and know they have something up their sleeves. Good move Tanny!!!!

  268. avatar Jets-Fan-4-Life says:

Wow JT truly lucked out, because once he signed with the Jets….

1 – Per Rex there is a good chance to get 15 sacks
2 – Be part of a team with a very good shot at the Super Bowl
3 – Be on HBO for Hard Knocks (helps launch a TV deal)
4 – Be on 5 Prime Time Night games (which also could help launch a TV deal)
5 – Pound on Flipper and his brothers whom you loved for years that just crapped on you.

  269. avatar Mavericknyc1980 says:

The second comming of Bryan cox!!!! Great signing!!!

  270. avatar Green Goblin says:

The Jets have the best team in football right now (on paper)..But they better not get rid of Ellis, Faneca, or Thomas because that would be too much player movement and could disrupt the team chemistry…Why is Woody being so cheap? I thought he was supposed to be turning into the new Steinbrenner..I recently heard a rumor that one of the reasons Parcells left the Jets was because Woody bought the team and Parcells felt Woody would not be a big spender like Hess was (I guess he was right)….Anyone else hear this??

  271. avatar oscarfactor says:

    You better produce, MF’er.

  272. avatar Hangar says:

    oscarfactor
    Well said…

  273. avatar bono-zoffa says:

While Jet fans have been disrespected in the past by their players by their mindless and lackluster play, this will be the first time we will have been backhandedly disrespected by the front office and now “fronthandedly” disrespected one of its players.

Hate the player. Unless he gets 10 sacks, I hate the deal too.

    It’s a sad day.

  274. avatar BigJets says:

Well im not a fan of this guy, But no1 can say he wont make an impact.

Get Ready for a Big Draft Day Move!

  275. avatar TheInsider says:

okay, where do i even begin…okay nobody knows what they are talking about, Jason Taylor is a great player and has done nothing wrong, if anyone can explain what he did PLEASE do because you guys sound like complete idiots. If you guys are supposed to be the tough fans or what not than why do you guys ALL have to come to some blog and cry like babies about gaining possibly the greatest player this team could get. I never thought that getting this amazing of a player for a price that he deserves to be much higher could ever become a negative thing….okay he can talk a little smack, but then again i’m sure none of you guys have ever experienced playing in the NFL with such horrific fans, i wouldn’t like you guys much either. So thanks for talking about Jason Taylor like this, he deserves a warm welcome and you are lucky to have him! >: P

  276. avatar TheInsider says:

P.S. i would love to see some of you guys TRY to be half the man he is

  277. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

    TheInsider

There is one thing I agree with you about

Some of these “tough” Jets fans whine and cry like little girls over every little move the team makes…its actually embarrassing to be associated with some of them

Our all world defensive coach just handpicked a player and these people act like Rex and JT are flicking boogers on Sunday…

  278. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

    WOJF

    Regret what?

Signing a guy to a short term deal while giving up nothing to get him?

We all know the history between Taylor and Jets fans, but the idea that this in any way puts the future of the franchise in jeopardy is absurd…not one Jets player or coach spoke up against Jason Taylor or had anything but nice things to say about him…in fact Pace and Ellis “would welcome” Jason Taylor…

If he plays great, we win…if he sucks, we can still win without him then cut him loose…there is no risk on this move and everything to gain

  279. avatar Lush Greenery says:

Maybe he gets here tomorrow and changes his mind.

This move is all Ryan. No way Tanny does this without major prodding from Rex. I’m not buying this “Rex as defensive savant” nonsense on this one. All Taylor had to say was “I loved being a Dolphin and this is my home. But I embrace this new challenge and am happy to go to a team that can compete for a title” That’s it. that’s all he had to say. Who cares about his disapointment? I couldn’t care less about how he feels about Jet fans. Bottom line is – the guy can’t play anymore. 12 sacks my a@@. He got over his “disapointment ” just long enough to collect one last payday.

Maybe he comes here tomorrow and changes his mind. Hopefully…..

  280. avatar slink88 says:

Thats right! a dolphins fan on your blog. Just thought it would be a nice change seeing as you always infest our blogs with your pointless rhetoric. just curious to see if you crappy fans have any appreciation for who you just signed..and of course, you dont. I love how sensitive the Jets fans become when it comes to Jasons comments…when all he ever says is the truth. i.e. Your stadium DOES suck as much as your weather! hahahaha.
Enjoy Jason cause hes still got gas in the tank and hes a great teammate. Hopefully, for your sake he will keep your locker room filled with thugs, divas and cancer from imploding. But for the Dolphins sake I hope he doesnt.
