Don Banks of SI.com thinks the Jets are this season’s schedule darlings.
It has become an annual rite of spring for the NFL to fall head over heels in love with one upwardly mobile franchise and bestow it with favored-son status on schedule-release day, but has the league and its omnipresent TV cameras ever swooned for anybody like the brash-talking Rex Ryan and his chest-thumping New York Jets?
If you surmised we all might be suffering a little Jets fatigue by the time New York’s preseason run on HBO’s Hard Knocks reality series wraps up in early September, well, you ain’t seen nothing yet. Get ready for a major dose of prime time exposure for Gang Green, with an NFL-high five night games, including three in the regular season’s first five weeks: Week 1 at home on Monday night against Baltimore, Week 3 on Sunday night in Miami, and Week 5 at home on Monday night against Minnesota.
All told, the Jets have three Monday night games, the Sunday night date against the Dolphins, and a Thanksgiving night showdown at home against the Bengals, their opponent in last year’s first-round of the playoffs. Mix in four more games that are currently slated for late-afternoon Sunday kickoffs, and thus eligible for mass distribution as a network’s second half of a doubleheader, and the Jets will seemingly be everywhere, all the time in 2010.
Like it? Hate it? Indifferent? What do you think?

Love it.

Tough schedule and tough games following short weeks.
The good news, if there is any in that and the all the exposure, is that if they play well enough to win the division this year, there will be no crying from anyone else.
And, those of us far away (Vermont) may have the option of not paying big bucks for NFL on DirecTV.

Since I watch every Jet game things won’t be much different. Sounds like the rest of the country might get a bit tired of us—especially if when we win.
-
The Jets are gonna be the team of the decade and the NFL realizes this fact….Let the dynasty commence!!!
-
I rather under the radar, but if we are the truth the masses shall see. Lets Go!!!!!!!!
-
What concerns me is the upwardly mobile team the NFL annoints usually disappoints or downright sucks and by mid year everyone is questioning how they got all these prime time games.
-
ugh, now tuesdays are going to be as bad as monday mornings. better start saving the sick time now…
-
I feel like a Dallas Cowboy fan.
-
Wow, tommarow night is just one more step closer to a fun season, the reason why they are in prime time so much also is this team is gonna be a lot of fun to watch and its cool that they play a old school brand of smash mouth football, true fans of the game are gonna enjoy watching the J E T S
-
Na that way everyone sees us go 16 and 0
-
I’m hating it, because that makes it tough to watch these games here in Germany, since they will air at like 2 a.m. here. I understand that it is a good thing to have some primetime games, but it just sucks for me =P
-
Love it. They have to back it up with wins, but if you can’t enjoy the Jets being the popular kid in school for once, something’s wrong with you.
-
Love it. Fits Rex’s personality, which is now the personality of the team. Bold, Brash, Primetime baby!
-
great for the team but as a UK fan i hate night games cos they start at 1 am
-
Means nothing if we don’t win these games. Those first six before the bye look tough, but I’m optimistic. This season can’t start soon enough.
-
Love it!
-
Hate it, Tuesday is my toughest day of the week at work, will need to stay sober for three whole games.
If I still had my season tickets I would hate this schedule, guess that’s why I gave them up to begin with.
-
Hate it. 2 weeks of back-to-back games and 3 home night games!! Not wonderful for bringing the next generation of Jet fans to the games…our kids.
-
just an fyi on faneca and stuff, they shouldn’t cut him,
and this is from the postRyan reacted sarcastically when responding to an Internet report that said the Jets are planning to release guard Alan Faneca, LB Bryan Thomas and DE Shaun Ellis after the draft.
“I’m just shocked that David Harris, Bart Scott, Jim Leonhard and Damien Woody weren’t on that list as well,” he said. “I guess if you can throw enough names out there maybe you hit one.
“Bryan Thomas, I’ll just say right now, is not going to be released.”
Asked specifically about Faneca and Ellis, both of whom went to the Pro Bowl last season, Ryan said, “Whatever. Just put any name you want in there. I’m not going to speculate on someone throwing out a story with no validity to it. You take that for whatever it’s worth.”

Tough tough schedule. appreciate the love from the nfl, but IMHO, too many prime time games – short weeks.
Also, feel like I’d rather not share my Jets that much. -
Love it! As an out of market Jets fan (behind enemy lines in MA, no less), I look forward to being able to catch more of the action. Happy Draft Day Eve, everyone!
-
LOVE IT!
-
Are you kidding? I live in KANSAS. I absolutely LOVE this. I won’t have to watch a miniscule computer screen nearly as much as I used to.
-
Under the radar alwayse better the cowboys havent won anything.
-
Don’t like it. I’d rather see us get all the attention ONCE we make it to the playoffs. Don’t wanna see us get rewarded with attention when he haven’t accomplished anything yet.
-
Jet players have an unbelievable opportunity, this season. The exposure they will receive can make or break careers and reputations. Let’s hope that most of them realize the opportunity and take good advantage of it.
-
There was a run of about 15 years where every off-season the sports writers swooned over the Dolphins. Didn’t matter how crappy they were the season before or how crappy they ended up being afterwards, the off-season super bowl always went to the ‘Fins. I hope this doesn’t jinx the Jets like the Madden cover or something.
-
Definitely agree that I would us be under the radar although that would be tough with media being in love with Rex. Great moves thus far during the off season but it just means they got that much more to prove. You know all the haters are just waiting to see them fail and us fans gotta go easy on the Green kool aid until the season starts!
-
I hate it, the expectations are way too high, let’s hope we can back it up with wins.
We’ve made several moves that look great on paper but now we need to see these guys play. God help us if we need to put our current #2 QB in the game.
-
Hate it. Expections/pressure will be high. Plus, Sundays from Sept. to the new year were mine, this schedules kills half my Sundays. This sucks.
-
Love it because I can watch it at home. I don’t have to go to a bar or try to watch on stupid streaming video.
-
Expectations are too high? We haven’t won in 40 years. If we don’t win, its a bust season, whether its this year, last year, or next year.
I love it because i’ve been a true Jet fan for many years. Ive been ridiculed because of it. People are finally going to understand what ive been talking about for years.
-
Im one of the biggest jet fans you will ever meet. However, i hate a lot of jet fans. THIS IS BECAUSE AFTER POTENTIALLY BEING ONE OF THE BEST TEAMS IN THE NFL WE HAVE TO HAVE THESE RETARD FANS SAYING “TEAM OF THE DECADE”…..CAN WE AT LEAT HAVE ONE DOMINENT SEASON FIRST BEFORE YOU SAY THAT SHI!
-
One second, we won’t have Santonio Holmes in the 1st 4 games against 3 divisional rivals, so we won’t be at full strength. Revert to “ground & pound” without Mr. Jones to spell Mr. Greene? Will the Clown show up or even be here? Can Edwards learn to catch like J-Co? Is Chez The Man or is he still A Kid?
Welcome to the NFL Merry-Go-Round. Your seat, like your emotions, go up and down and you end up going in a circle and, a year older, returning to where you started, vowing to wait till next year to repeat or “win it all this time”. Actually true of all sports endeavors.
-
We don’t get any love on NFL network at the end of the show they showed all of the playoff teams that they believed would be in the playoffs and they did not have the Jets!!!!!! They had the Texans and the Dolphins but not the Jets???? Where’s the love I hope we show them this year!!!!!! F all u haters!!!!!!!
-
I like the primetime games early in the season. The whole counrty will get to see what Rex’s team is all about.
-
It’s what Woody wanted. He seems to have gotten the ear of the NFL overlords.
For me, while I haven’t checked the schedule, it would seem we’ll be having lots of short weeks (and long ones). Difficult to create a routine… and could wear down the players late in the season.
I could care less about the media attention, but I’d suspect there’ll be a lot of fans rooting against us… it’s a NY team, & in this soundbite culture, Rex’s perceived brashness is sure to be misunderstood by many… -
Big ben out 4-6 games…..Nice!! Wish it were 16 lol
-
The Jets may well be the team everyone loves to hate (except for Jets fans who will love this team). My kid will be happy to see the Jets on TV a lot this year.
-
I’m a little concerned the jets are getting over hyped way to much. The Jets will be playing 13 out of 16 possible playoff teams and like the article stated when the browns and Dolphins got this schedule exposure they didn’t even make the playoffs. I’ve been a jet fan since the late sixties but I think New York fans need to calm down a little bit. It’s not like the jets won any superbowls lately, actually over 40+ years. I’m also concerned that this team is built for this year.
-
Looking at the 2010-2011 jets schedule. I can easily see the jets going 8-8. Last year we were 9-7 with a easier schedule.
-
Love it. Everyone in the organization has been telling the rest of the NFL to “look out the Jets are coming”. Now is the time to “put up” or “shut-up” and the NFL has given us the stage. All eyes on us boys…lets prove a lot of people wrong. If you’re still hesitant than that means you haven’t bought into the Ryan system and you’re still thinking about the same old Jets.
-
nfl network gave us no love on thier special total access…………..they dont even have us making the playoffs
-
love it, this is exactly what rex and woody have been trying to do
however, I’m nervous that such a schedule will made it difficult to get into a routine- different types of rest for differnet weeks, etc… i think this could really hurt them if they run into injuries that cant recover in the shortened week
-
I love it!! Why should we as Jets fans be afraid of any attention we get? After all, we have been getting plenty of negative attention over the last 40 years or so without asking for a lick of it! No sense in turning down the chance to bask in the light for a bit. We’ve had years and years of “Same Ol’ Jets” so why is it such a big deal to enjoy this little coaster ride to where ever it may lead. I mean do you seriously think it will turn out worse than say a 1-15 season? Will a few high profile games make us feel worse than Rich Kotite? I think not. The Jets may not have done much in the opinion of many to deserve this attention but I say what the heck does “deserve” have to do with it anyway?! Plenty of teams in this league have “deserved” way better than what they ultimately got….and thats cause we all know that “deserves” got nothing to do with it. I say go JETS! Stop your whining, Jets fans, and just enjoy the ride. In this league you’re lucky if your team gives you 4 or 5 seasons of “great” football before you’re the Rams or the Browns or the Raiders…or yes, the Jets.

At least it’s different. Might as well enjoy it – it means that we don’t suck.
