Salary Cap Update: Vernon’s Contract
As you will recall, Rich Cimini at ESPNNY reported that Vernon Gholston’s contract had been renegotiated over the weekend. We had already written about this last week but Cimini’s report contained some slightly conflicting information. Fortunately, Jason LaCanfora came out with more information earlier today which confirms that our original report was more or less accurate.
Jason from nyjetscap.com breaks down the deal in detail at his site, so click here for details of what this might mean going forward.
We agree that Gholston will get a chance to play and prove he belongs in the NFL next year. Rather than giving up money as reported by Cimini, Gholston has actually been given a slight raise on the guaranteed salary he is owed for the next two years and in exchange he has reduced his salaries for 2011 and 2012 and reclassified some incentives, the upshot being that if he doesn’t perform, the cap cost of letting him go will be easier to manage than it would have been and makes a trade after the season slightly more feasible. If he does perform well enough for the Jets to consider keeping him, they will likely look to renegotiate again next year, unless he unexpectedly plays really well, in which case they will pay him some bonus money and still have him under contract for two more years with low salaries.

This is the anti-2004/05 off-season
Tanny is doing everything Bradway did not

TOON2388
This is why Mr T runs the show and Bradway is scouting college players.
As to Gholston…..Just eat blocks kid and attempt to be a relevant part of the magic that will happen this year.

I honestly think this could be one of the most exciting parts of the off-season. Seeing VG play his natural position is just a bonus if he brings anything. I am hopeful he could become a game changer.
Longshot I know, but I’m excited

Bent,
Exaxctly…..lol

Okay…how is it that I gave a one word response and still managed to misspell it…LMAO
-
I really hope Gholston works out…. but the DE spot isn’t a glorious one with us and I don’t see it working that well.
Who scouted this guy if he sucks so bad ????…. if anyone of you made a 50 mil dollar mistake at your job, you’d be fired !!

patspulpit is reporting that the jets are in discussions with AD

Gholston is not a stupid guy, so I like the fact that he KNOWS next year is make or break and he’s willing to compromise with the team. From here on out VG has to EARN a rediculous paycheck.

Chris Mortensen: Know it’s been put there but , yes, Jets are discussing Adalius Thomas
-
This could just be Tanny exploring all options or maybe they’re actively trying to figure out how to fit him on the team.
-
So we are to assume the Jets are discussing AT?? Well hell, we’re dicussing AT. Mort should wait til the Jets are discussing WITH AT….As in discussing what it’s gonna be like to return to Pro Bowl form Mutha*****!!

Bent’s feeling rather optimistic tonight.

Gholston should be paid piece work- by the tackle and sack. He would owe the team money.

When we first drafted Gholston nicknames were flying around. Vernon “The Ghost” Gholston sounded like a pretty good one. I could imagine him slipping through the offensive line untouched and haunting O-coordinators’ dreams.
Now it still seems like “The Ghost” would be an appropriate nickname…just for vastly different reasons.

can we please sign adalius thomas
