Link: There’s a Lot to Like About John Conner

by Bassett on April 27th, 2010 at 8:20 am

What should we expect out of John Conner? Rich Cimini at ESPN New York with a scout friend of his and asked him to assess John (duh-duh-duh DUH DUH) Conner and his game for the Jets.

Spoke to a scouting buddy of mine today and he raved about Conner’s toughness and blocking skills.

“He’s a hammer,” said the scout, speaking on the condition of anonymity. “He didn’t carry the ball much in college (only 54 times), but I’m telling you now, he’ll knock you on your (butt). I watched him at the Senior Bowl. He was an easy study. Oh, my God, he’s an old-fashioned, I-fullback. Woody Hayes and John McKay would’ve loved this guy. He would’ve been an all-American under Woody Hayes.”

Woody Hayes, of course is the famous former coach at Ohio State and who’s offense basically invented the phrase “three yards and a cloud of dust.”

    Result of the Jets 2010 draft:
    1st round- Wilson;
    2nd round- Ducasse;
    3rd: Edwards;
    4th: McKnight;
    5th round- Connor;
    5th round- Holmes;

    We lost, Rhodes, Leon and our 6th & 7th picks in the process.

    Hah, putting this guy in front of Greene will be like having a tank in front of a dump truck. Or vice-versa. Or a wrecking ball behind bulldozer…..or a rhino behind an elephant……or, well you get the idea. Big things that crush stuff. Cannot wait to see those two just batter defenses into submission.

  6. avatar GANGGREEN says:

    This kid could be the second coming of Christian Okoye or Mike Alstott…Very encouraged with his mindframe..First their was the Nigeria Nightmare now The Terminator welcome to the NFL John Connor…lol

  7. avatar rusty sanchez says:

    hopefully connor and mcknight pan out with all the weapons on offense no team is going to know if we are going to run or pass hopefully schotty takes it easy with his end arounds and double reverses cause for the first time in awhile i feel the jets are capable of putting alot of points on the board

  8. avatar rusty sanchez says:

    just like the movie well let john conner lead the resistance (jets rb’s)

  9. avatar AKA....Drew says:

    This is still T-Rich’s team but this kid looks legit. Since T-Rich wont play much in preseason I can already see the highlight reel of blocks Conner will provide.

    Nice pickup

  10. avatar JetOrange says:

    Will be a good contributor to special teams, good short yardage guy.
    With the exception of Ducasse, this has been an excellent draft for special teams.
    Wilson and McKnight will add to the return game, Connor adds toughness, and is like a linebacker on specials. Look UNDFA’s Jackson & Warren to be major contributors to ST

  11. avatar Pdubbs says:

    Does this mean Arnold will come the Jets games ???

  12. avatar MEL31602 says:

    Reports are Jets not going to sign A. Thmas because they already have Taylor to fill the same role. Taylor bashers commence your moaning about rather having AT

  13. avatar deuce4417 says:

  14. avatar Revis Christ says:

    25 April 2010,
    The day the name “Jehuu Caulcrick” became a distant memory.

  17. avatar reality jet fan says:

    I cant believe how much that tanny improved the offense. And the number one defense also improved.We WILL BE VERY DANGEROUS.

  18. avatar reality jet fan says:

    Brendan that was funny man.And well said

  19. avatar Brendan says:

    But it’s true. I mean, when you’re RB is 10 pounds less than your FB, your team is going to just flat out hurt people.

  20. avatar reality jet fan says:

    Once holmes gets in teams will really have a tough time guessing what we are going to do.

  21. avatar Brendan says:

    A package of Bray-Bray and Holmes on the outside, Cotch in the slot, Keller 2 yards off the tackle, McKnight next to Sanchez is outright frightening.

    I have not been this excited since… well, trich! Haha sick backfield addition. I cannot wait to see our goalline packages

  25. avatar nyjwtf says:

    Check out his combine stats … first in every event except one!

  26. avatar Lance Mehl says:

    I know the money is the issue but why couldn’t Ducasse learn for one year under Faneca – just like Connor will learn from Richardson ? the Faneca move is the only one that bothers me .. you cannot tell me we are better at LG than we were before the draft .. and in an uncapped year – what would one more year of Faneca hurt? I know we have to sign Mangold, Revis long term but we weren’t doing that now anyway ?

  27. avatar cmonleon says:

    I was hoping we would sign McClain from the ravens and use him the same way ( blocking back on reg Downs and short yardage back ). Just imagine this kid running through a hole plowed by Richardson……… u know this Guy is gonna kill some poor safety real soon

  28. avatar AJ says:

    Arnold Schwarzenegger approves this draft pick.

  29. avatar BamBam says:

    B-E-A-U-T-F-U-L !!! It seems that every year we are promised a guy like Connor (kinda like all of those marginal TE’s we drafted over the years BK – Before Keller) and hopefully he’s the real deal.

  30. avatar MangoldenBoy says:

    I have a vision of the first day of rookie camp. Connor is getting suited and booted, T-Rich comes out of a plume of smoke wearing some badazz shades. He extends his hand to John and says, “Come with me if you want to block.”…..Thank you I’ll be here all night.

  31. avatar Wilson #1 says:

    Great draft again guys and some good UDFA signings. Conner will do damage in the 4th quarter this year, and learning from T-Rich the sky the limit for this kid. Wilson as well learning from Revis and Crow these young guys got drafted to the best team they could have and will pay dividends in the long run.

  32. avatar Beef says:

    so does this make T-Rich the T-1000?
