Fans Want Stony Brook Product at Mini-Camp

By Rich Forestano on 29. Apr, 2010

The Star-Ledger’s Manish Mehta said after the draft, his twitter account was flooded with stats, skills and even a hash-tag from fans to show their desire for Stony Brook’s all-time leading rusher Conte Cuttino to be invited to the Jets Mini-Camp. I’ve seen this kid play being a Hofstra-alum and have to say, although small (Leon Washington once was) he’s very versatile and can make all the moves. He also had a decent combine so he may merit a look-see.

But as to whether or not he gets invited remains to be seen:

A sampling of the support:

From @WVU_RedsNYJ_K_I: “#Cuttino2NYJets only seems logical. He’s got potential outta this world. Watch sum film. I don’t care who he is playin against”

From @D_Wyatt13: “Conte’s #s compared to RB’s at combine: 40 yard (4th best), Vertical (2nd best), Broad Jump (1st), 3 cone (1st) 20 yard (1st) #Cuttino2NYJets”

From @WG_SPA: “#Cuttino2NYJets Sign this dude Jets!!! He is better then Danny Woodhead!!”

Some people implored Jets players … From @PortugalBoy: “@Revis24 Hey Dude let Mr. T know that the #Jets fans want @Cuttino_01 to be given a chance. #Cuttino2NYJets”

@Gscott1847 cut right to the chase: “#Cuttino2NYJets #Cuttino2NYJets #Cuttino2NYJets #Cuttino2NYJets #Cuttino2NYJets #Cuttino2NYJets #Cuttino2NYJets #Cuttino2NYJets #NFL #NyJets”

“I truly feel blessed to know that I have so many people in my corner as I go about this journey to achieving my dream,” Cuttino said. “Taking my time to network through Facebook and Twitter and be close to fans and others definitely is paying off. Things can be done more effectively with hundreds of voices instead of one (me). I thank all that voice their opinion and support on Twitter and am deeply grateful for them all. I am really humbled by the outpouring.”

What do you guys think? Should he be invited? I’d say he’s worth a look. They gave Woodhead one last year.  To read the whole article, click here.

I read this not too long before you posted it, Bassett.

I’m all for giving the guy a chance. Seems like we’re pretty set at RB though.

Cuttino should get a shot, he’s a local product who made good. Cherbet made good why not this kid? I would hate to see someone with this talent on another team only because we wouldn’t give him a shot. WR from N.O. sound familiar?

All the people I follow have taken over my time line with this topic.
It would be a great story but there’s just no room for him at the moment with Greene, LT, McKnight and even Woodhead.

. Jets are good right now, and I want Danny Woodhead in that locker room. I say don’t bring him in.

If I were in charge of the Giants however, I’d see what the kid got.

He definitely deserves a shot, if not with the jets, definitely any other team in the league. He can be an asset for any team so I hope he does get an invite somewhere.

The Jets should give the local kid a try-out. Any local guy who puts up the kind of combine numbers Conte did should get a try-out. Cmon Jets!!!! Give him a try out!!!

    Come on Fellas,

The JETS have NY fans all over the world, so there must be some video on this kid. Show us what he got in order to get more support.

I agree that he should get a shot, but then again, does everyone?

You picked Vernon Gholston 6th overall because of his measurable attributes!! Give this kid a chance then.

I just don’t see any downside to bringing him in. Even if you don’t think he’ll make the team, appease the fans here, nothing to lose

I remember Jets fans being so high on a WR from hofstra a few years ago. They begged the Jets to draft him towards the end of the draft.. what was his name again? … oh year Marcus Coleston.

Jet fans know their local products. Might as well give this kid a shot.

    Drew—

Just took a look at the highlihgt clip of this kid—it’s actually pretty impressive.

But look at the stands in the background (at around 4:40, for instance): there are more players on the sidelines than fans in the stands. The stand are almost empty.

Do we actually need another running back? Pretty sure that we have the needed depth there. I suppose he could play specials?

I’ve read posts here that say were set at RB. Really? Woodhead is in his 3rd season after getting hurt 2 years ago. I don’t mind being stacked at one position. But since when do we make the call on competition? Bring him in and the best man win. Its that simple.

After seeing film on this kid, I’ll tell you one thing. If you loved Leon Washington, your gonna love this kid. He reminds me of Leon. Explosive and unpredictable.
