Link: Does Wilson Know What He’s In For?

by Bassett on April 29th, 2010 at 1:25 pm

At the Taste of New York event last night in Manhattan, Revis was asked about his thoughts on some of the team’s moves, like the addition of CB Kyle Wilson. While Revis hasn’t had a chance to meet him yet, he’s got some news for the youngster.

… Darrelle Revis was business-like in laying out his plans for breaking in rookie defensive back Kyle Wilson.

“We’re gonna bust his butt,” Revis said.

Revis, an All-Pro who recorded 54 tackles and six interceptions last season, has not been in touch with Wilson yet, but reveled in the opportunity to add more “passion” to Rex Ryan’s deep reserves of defensive backs. The addition of cornerback Antonio Cromartie also caught his eye as a potential complement to him.

“My reaction to those moves? ‘Just ‘Wow,’ ” Revis said.

git em done, revis. these kids (cro. wilson, warren, lowery) have gotta feel on top of the world to be working with the best cb in the game.

  2. avatar vbsiena says:

If Revis is happy I am happy

  3. avatar iJets says:

I hope this bit from Revis Island squashes any feeling that there will be no team chemistry on this Jets team.

The team’s core is intact and are ready to lead. Let the hurt begin for the rooks!!!!

  4. avatar JesusRevis says:

I love having Revis on the team because we all know that he is one of the hardest working players in the league. His work ethics HAS to be contagious and what a great influence he is for the younger players.

Worried about team chemistry? Not with this team!

  5. avatar Dylan says:

The scary thing is that even without Revis our secondary is still better than a lot of teams. With Revis, its just unfair!

  6. avatar Brendan says:

Revis is a workaholic. It’s only going to lead to good things putting players with focus issues (Cro) or experience issues (Wilson) around him.

  7. avatar Jets baby says:

Yo in that article is says Sanchez has already thrown several times with Holmes.. Is that true, is he up and throwing already?

  8. avatar JP the Jet says:

The core of young leaders we have on this team rival any other team in the NFL. All seem to have tireless work ethics (Revis, Sanchez, Harris, etc) and that is contaigeous!

Very ealry in the season, the notion that we are messing with the chemistry too much will be disproven.

  9. avatar endzoneview says:

    Fave quote:

“I think we’ve set a standard for how we work and practice the last few years,” Revis said. “We’re got three No. 1 receivers and plenty of guys to cover them. All of us want to get out there.”

  10. avatar JetsFan65 says:

I don’t see why it isn’t true about Sanchez and Holmes. I think Sanchez only isn’t able to run yet, it didn’t saying anything about not being able to throw.

  11. avatar AKA....Drew says:

Like i said….Rex has pushed Revis to become a leader and our boy has responded big time since then

  12. avatar NJets says:

The offense is going to blossom this year. When your daily practice competition is the best in the league, your offense has no choice but to get better.

There are few things im more excited for than watching these units go at each other on hard knocks. EVERYONE will get better this year.

  13. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

Revis will revolutionize the CB position and teams will look to draft guys with the “next Darrelle Revis” label…

But he is everything we could have ever hoped for on and off the field….total mancrush

  14. avatar Shamik says:

I have a feeling these guys are going to show up to camp, introduce themselves to eachother, maybe have a drink to past colleagues and then get down to business demolishing the rest of the league. I can’t think of many other teams that have this kind of talent on both sides of the ball. Baltimore and maybe NO. Thats about it.

  15. avatar EastSide says:

It’s kind of ridiculous; I’d rather watch our WR-DB drills than the Pro Bowl.

  16. avatar Green Lantern says:

To Create A Tough Defense You Gotta Be Tough On Em…
Ever since I saw Revis Jack Chad Johnson Up I Knew how tough he was.

  17. avatar JayM says:

If Sanchez can complete a pass in practice against this secondary I think he will have no problem against any other team :)))

  18. avatar EastSide says:

    Eddie DiGio,
Not sure if I’m recalling this correctly, but I think I heard an analyst suggest that Mangini and Holmgren were looking for their own Revis when they drafted Haden.

  19. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

This team is just loaded with guys who can make plays…its comical

  20. avatar GP says:

Yeah, just to echo what everyone is saying, I love the fact that Revis is a total workaholic and a film junkie. Sure he’s got loads of natural talent, but you don’t get as good as he is by just relying on that to get by. His work ethic is a big reason that, even as good as he already is, he stands to get even better over the course of his career.

I remember watching David Barrett line up across from other teams’ #1 receivers. (shudders) So glad I don’t have to see that ever again.

  21. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

    EastSide

Yea I think I heard that too…although Revis ran much faster pro day and combine times than Haden…

Revis has that rare combo of strength and fluidity in his hips…he can turn and run and change direction without slowing down…

Deion may have been faster but Relle Rev is much, much , much stronger and tougher

  22. avatar reality jet fan says:

Eddi this guy is an abolute find. He is as close to perfect as a player can be. I just got my revis jersey and i feel prety secure in that purchase.

  23. avatar Marvel(I wanted Mays) says:

Shamik … I agree with Balt & N.O but I would also throw Dallas/Greenbay/SD/SF(Mays) in there as well ..

When do the rookies report to camp? And when does everyone get to meet eachother?

  24. Like the ’82 Killer Bee’s (Dophins), these DB’s are so good, they deserve a collective nickname. Any ideas?

  25. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

    reality jet fan

I have one in green, white, Titan white signed by Relle Rev himself…

Kid isnt going anywhere, ever…Jets will break the bank to sign this kid

  26. avatar nyj2010 says:

    eastside-

Watching our WR-DB scrimmages is the same as watching the pro bowl!

  27. avatar GP says:

Speaking of jerseys, I currently rock the C-Mart and Chrebet, both home green unis. I’m thinking it might be time to get an away jers and I’m leaning towards Harris, Leonhard or Mangold.

  28. avatar Jeff says:

I was at that taste of NFL event last night and Revis was awesome. He had a line of autograph seekers that wrapped halfway around the building and he was gracious and really cool, signing everything and posing for pics with everyone…Santonio Holmes on the other hand was a straight up dik. he refused to take pictures with anyone and was sitting down basically ignoring people. Way to alienate your new fan base moron.

  29. avatar EastSide says:

The player Rev reminds me most of is Darrell Green (fitting that their given names or so similar). Like Green, Rev is fast, physical and occasionally makes the receiver look like the corner!

  30. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

    Jeff

Revis is the man…talks to people, jokes around, hes just a cool guy who happens to be the best baller in the world…

Holmes should stay as far away from everyone as possible…hes already out 4 games, one comment by a drunk fan the wrong way and a fight breaks out, glasses get thrown…im not defending him, but id rather have him on the field

  31. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

Funny all these Dolphins fans talking all this s#it how Marshall is going to dominate Revis…like the list of castaways isnt long and distinguished as my johnson is…

Cant wait when Marshall catches 6 passes for 55 yds and 0 TDs in 2 games vs Revis…Phish heads will probably still point to the Ted Ginn play, when Rhodes left Revis out to dry…

Phish fans are far worse than Pats fans

  32. avatar MangoldenBoy says:

I don’t know why I like the idea of a nickname for our DBs that involves the phrase “Repo Men”…If you don’t pay attention, we’re gonna steal your ****. Lol.

  33. avatar Row says:

    6 catches? If he’s lucky. :D

  34. avatar Zartan says:

    Dean Barbella,

they’ve been dubbed ALCATRAZ Island.NO EXSCAPE!!

    Eddie DiGio,

If Revis does that to Marshall, then we might as well put him in the HOF and im buying my first jet Jersey.Marshall is the real deal. Dude has the complete package. The other so called best, just have something they do good that works.

  35. avatar REXappeal says:

75% of the world is covered by water, the other 25% is covered by Darelle Revis.

  36. avatar NJets says:

No Fly Zone is way better than Alcatraz

  37. avatar Andrew says:

Is there any way to ensure, at home, whenever wilson goes back to wait for a kickoff or punt to return, they play the chorus of the phish song “wilson” as he waits. Its a simple chorus that is two beats followed the word “willlllsoooon” sung loudly by the crowd

  38. avatar tomg says:

Don’t take the dolphins lightly. I admit the dolphin fans are idiots like Philly fans but Marshall is right there with Fitzgerald. The dolphins are going to be a good team after addressing there needs in the draft and adding Marshall.

  39. Zartan,

I like ALCATRAZ Island on account, I run the http://www.SFJetsFans.com.

… Though, I’ve gotta agree with NJets, No Fly Zone is the best!!!

  40. That said, here’s to working on our DMZ (Demilitarized) Zone aka Attack at the Line of Scrimmage with some Defensive Line in 2011 draft!

Though getting Kris Jenkens back is HUGH – intentional pun – 15-yards!

  41. avatar Johnny Reefer says:

The Phins are the only team that fears me besides the Colts.

Those I still believe we will go 16-0 this year. 8D

  42. avatar Johnny Reefer says:

Seriously, With Jenkiins coming back, we have no weakness but our kicking game.

  43. avatar tomg says:

That’s where I think the Jets could be in trouble, the kicking game, punter and field goal.

  44. Yeah – Looks like Mike T had to let Jay Feely walk in order to grab Jason Taylor (Final Four Rules).

Hopefully, this kid from Dallas, Nick Folk, just developed some bad habits recovering from injuries. If so, the sky’s the limit!!!

  45. avatar C Low says:

Cromartie better bring it this year. He will be picked on left and right.

I CANT WAIT TO SEE WILSON PLAY AGAINST MY FAVORITE GATOR OF ALL TIME, PERCY HARVIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  46. avatar GP says:

    @Andrew

OHHHHHHHHH OUT IN GAMEHENDGE, I LIVED ALONE!!

  47. avatar GP says:

    also @Andrew

I do the Wilson call at Knicks games whenever Wilson Chandler makes a baller play. Also, Phish is f**king awesome.

  48. C Low,

Cromartie may only play one season in Green & White; yet, with:

    Revis Island to his left;
    Kyle Wilson to his right;
    Contact year in front of him;
    Sexy Rexy coming fast behind;

    It’s gonna be his best!!!

Plus, he’ll be surounded by Hard Knocks cameras and seven kids a crying (his).

  49. avatar C Low says:

Cromartie better play good corner because if he doesn’t he will have to tackle. hehehehe

  50. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

Brandon Marshall does not have elite deep speed and you have to throw the ball at him 20 times to get 10 catches…

Marshall can out run some slower corners, run over some weaker ones, but hes never come across a corner with Revis football IQ and strength…

Andre Johnson > Brandon Marshall…Andre Johnson didnt do squat

And Andre Johnson is a faster version of Brandon Marshall

  51. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

The guys that give Revis the most problems are the smarter, more precise route runners in the Reggie Wayne or Jerry Rice mold…

Recievers like Marshall who just try and physically beat him just wind up like Vincent Jackson and Andre Johnson

  52. avatar VIC CADET says:

REVIS AND WILSON AT CORNER NEXT DRAFT PETERSON KID FROM LSU MOVE CRO TO FS AND D.WARREN SUBING IN AT CORNER OR SAFETY AND WE REPEAT AS SUPERBOWL CHAMPS

  53. avatar VIC CADET says:

AD SHOULD BE SIGNED TO SPELL OUR INSIDE LB AND OLB AS WELL

  54. avatar KB says:

Lowery needs to be gone. He just does not get it done.

  55. avatar VIC CADET says:

I RATHER HAVE LOWERY ON THE FIELD OVER COLMEN

  56. avatar JesusRevis says:

Regarding kicker, the Texans signed Neil Rackers and they already have Kris Brown, so right now they have 2 pro bowl kickers on their roster. 1 of the 2 will get released and the Jets can pick that player up and let him compete with Folk for the job.

Sounds good enough for me, i’m more concerned about punter

  57. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

    Agree JR

Hasnt Shayne Graham of the Bengals been floating out there too..

  58. avatar JesusRevis says:

    Eddie,

Yeah, Shayne Graham is out there too. The only thing is, Graham and Brown are coming off of shaky seasons. Graham missed a couple FG’s against us in the playoff game and if i’m not mistaken Kris Brown missed a FG that would have beaten the Colts?

  59. The knock on Lowery is speed. Can’t swich his hips. Get’s beat deep.

Yet, I think Lowery has potential at Safety. He’s a smart kid. Ballhawk and tackles well! Only, we do have a lot of mediocre, so he’ll have to be really good.

  60. avatar joethejet says:

    Jeff,
i agree,i was there as well, and bluntonio is a total dykk head,i already dont want him on this team, and after this season,i hope we can get a 3rd round for him,and let him go elsewhere, total unprofessional,he just doesnt get it

  61. avatar joethejet says:

i cant wait for the season to start already,as far as bluntonio goes,i really dont care for him,i mean seriously, what a jerk,i want him off this team already, and i will not be rooting for him

  62. avatar KenEB says:

    It’s a “good” butt busting.

  63. avatar PickNY says:

    We can call them:

    T-Rex Jet-Son’s!

  64. avatar PickNY says:

The defense including the offense can both be refer to as “T-Rex Jet-Sons”!

    What do y’all think?

The Killer Bees didn’t connect to the Dolphns name, so I’m sure the defense will get a nickname afer the beatdown start coming!

  65. avatar MangoldenBoy says:

Yep. The Repo Men is the best nickname yet.

  66. avatar rusty sanchez says:

revis is one of those guys when he starts showing first signs of getting old you start to get nervous and wonder how hell ever be replaced….mariano rivera derek jeter and curtis martin were or are in that category…has there ever been a corner that good and dominate at the age of 24???

  67. avatar ron2473000 says:

    MangoldenBoy,

I second the Repo Men because:

    1. You can’t get down the field to score a TD therefore you can’t pay your bills to the fans giving them the highlights they paid all that money to come see score touchdowns LOL

    2. Just like any good collector we will take your S*%T back to the house once we got our hands your money which will the football

    3. All in all REPO MEN is still the coolest name because were are team which exudes chemistry therefore the secondary unit aren’t individuals there a group of REPO MEN………LOL gotta love that ending!!!!

  68. avatar arvydas says:

nickname is wu-tang clan. theres so many good ones that u dont know whose coming. killer bees on attack
