Cory Reamer talks to AL.com about his experience with the Jets as a tryout rookie and how it feels to get a contract with the Jets and what he expects to do to stick with the team.
"I was definitely nervous, but after the first day was over, I felt better," the former Hoover High School star said. "It was like a regular practice.
"Their defense is run similar to what we ran at Alabama. It wasn’t too difficult. All I needed to know was their terminology. It definitely was an advantage for me."

And Reamer under stands he has joined a contender, which means it will be even harder to make the 53-man roster.
"They had a great team last year," Reamer said. "They’ve added some great players.
"Everybody’s going to have plenty of good players. It’s just a matter of what you make of the opportunity. If you’re going to be the one who’s dedicated and you give effort every day and show that you want to be there, there’s a lot more that goes into it than just having athletic ability."
So what does he need to do to make the cut?
"Versatility is definitely the key," said Reamer, who started at outside linebacker for two years at Alabama while also starring on special teams.
"If you’re not a star player, the more you can do, the better your odds are. Just knowing all the linebacker positions, playing all the special teams, doing everything that they ask and more. . . ."
He’s right about versatility. For guys who are going to not be starters (and sometimes even so) it’s important for them to show well on special teams to find a spot on the roster, or even practice squad.
His athletic shortcomings might be the saving grace for Reamer if there isn’t a spot on the roster for him. If the Jets can put him on the practice squad for a year, that might not be the worst thing.

The most interesting this about this article to me was the hidden gem as to why the much hated Nick Saben (at least by me) is such a good coach:
“Their defense is run similar to what we ran at Alabama. It wasn’t too difficult”
I know it was probably mostly vanilla, but that means Nick is coaching a defense similar to Rex’. If so, lil Bill might be using the wrong feeder school. We might want to get some more Bama players.

I’m rooting for him. It makes sense that we’ll see more ‘Bama players on the Jets going forward as Saban runs a similar, aggressive 3-4 to ours. Their players are ahead of the game.
