After the 2010 NFL schedule was released, ESPN asked Jet fans to vote in a game-by-game poll to determine what their 2010 record will be. 1,359 fans participated, and they decided that the Jets will finish 15 – 1, their only loss coming in Week 12 at Foxborough.
Rex was asked about the 15 – 1 record.
“Who’d we lose to?” he asked.
“15-1, I’ll actually take that,” Ryan said. “15-1, Jets fans are smart. We’ll go ahead and take that. I don’t want to be too greedy.”
It is very early to predict the outcome of the schedule, but on paper, there is no denying the Jets have talent. But, fact is its only May, and many things can change from now until the start of the season. For now, I am just happy to see Tanny’s hard work paying off, and to witness the Jets finally getting the recognition and respect they deserve.

Well, I do think that this team was a good team that made costly mistakes, and I feel that they played better when they had something to shoot for like a Super Bowl parade. Will we go 15-1? Probably not, but who’s to say we can’t?
-
Don’t count your chickens before they hatch.
-
Anyone predicting we will go 15-1 is either delusional or hasnt really watched an NFL game recently…..
I am as big or a Kool Drinker as there is but 15-1? I mean some of the greatest teams in NFL history havent put up that type of record. Lets try and win the AFC East before we start talking about 1 loss seasons
This is all about the bandwagon fans that see Rex making funny comments and now wants to be a Jet fans………. I made this comment before but the same people that predict 15-1 are the same fans that probably think Drew Coleman is the little guy from “Different Strokes”
-
Dont count your chickens before Charlie Batch.

I think a 1st round bye and beating the Patriots twice is a good goal for the season regardless of how many wins that takes.
-
I’d be happy if we can just win the division, maybe even get a bye in the first round. That makes the road to our goal a lot easier.
Predicting wins and losses this early is pretty silly.
-
I say 12 wins is a good mark to aim for. 15 wins isn’t happening, let’s be real here.
-
You must be kidding me. I’ve been a life-long Jets fan, but 15-1????? I would be thrilled for a 9-7 or better season. We barely slipped into the playoffs last year and had some horrendous losses – anyone remember the Bills overtime playoff loss? If you think for one minute that other teams are going to lay down for the Jets, you have another thing coming. Optimism is great, but idiotic, unchecked exuberance is another thing entirely.
-
You would be thrilled with 9-7
-
?
-
Somewhere between 10 and 12 wins would be fine by me. I just want a home playoff game at the least.
-
easy boys. more fodder for fat man.
-
Bent already explained why this poll isn’t accurate.
I don’t remember what he said exactly but it was along the lines that each game was voted on individually and a 51% vote would make it a win. Most fans going into the poll didn’t assume a 15-1 record but the varying opinions on which games were won and lost would spread the wining %’s so that their true season predictions wouldn’t reflect in the compiled record prediction.
-
12-4 seems like a very nice season to me..but i will not prognosticate any further, we are a long ways away from the season!
-
As someone pointed out in the links post in which this was first mentioned, Graham’s blog post is kinda stupid and misunderstands probability. The fact that Jets fans collectively think the team has a better 50/50 chance to win 15 of 16 games isn’t the same thing as thinking they will in fact win 15 games. If you did a poll of Jets fans about how many games the team will win, I suspect the average would be about 12 games, which may be a little optimistic but not “delusional.”
-
Boy o boy i remember those stupid losses against Atlanta and the Bills. We better not have any games like that this season, I remember I HATED those losses with a passion.
-
I guess people have forgotten that we’re still the Jets…
-
Waaaaay to optimistic. 12-4 at best.
-
Bent,
Exactly! I was saying yesterday, that even if most fans were predicting 12-4, as long as the MAJORITY of fans were picking a win for each game than it would count as a win. If we were all trying to predict wins and losses, I doubt we would all choose the same result for every game. The Jets don’t really have any clear cut losses on their schedule. We all know they aren’t going to win 15 games, but we dont know which games they are going to lose. The whole thing is a joke. If they had a poll asking Jets fans what the teams record would be after week 17, it would probably be closer to 12-4.
-
Graham never misses a chance to take a shot at the Jets or their fans. He used to cover the Bills and the Fish so no matter what they do he fawns over them or at least couches any criticism with excuses. He genuflects around Belichick and so the Jets are his designated kick dogs.
I don’t take his “analysis” very seriously and his demonstrated lack of understanding of statistics is a good reason why.
-
After reading : (or Bent’s) explanation this makes much more sense and I have gained some trust of my fellow Jet fans back.
in saying that I think we are going 16-0! :)
-
Its upsetting that this is the type of garbage the media feeds Rex.
One thing is being cocky and confident, but to make it sound like Jets fans are predicting 15-1 and forcing Rex to respond just continues the loudmouth media portrayed character that gets on Sportscenter but also sets Rex up nicely to be ripped when we don’t do as well as we should.
It makes Jets fans sound unintelligent and cocky, when we aren’t.
-
our schdule is brutal and we all hope sanchez dosen’t have a sophmore slump i say 11-5 or 12-4
-
15-1?
The football gods will curse our hubris and make us go 1-15 while losing Sanchez, Braylon, and Leonard.
-
I am hoping to win week one versus a very tough and very underrated baltimore team. then lets worry about weeks 2-17
-
10-6..Is where we should start. 6 – 2 at Home and 4 – 4 on the road. We could do better but not 15-1.
-
Just ridiculous. I hate to hear things like this, it just sets everyone up for major disappointment. The schedule is so tough this year, realistically, they will end up 10-6, or 11-5, which we then just have to hope is good enough for the Division. A home playoff game is crucial. Brady and Belichick are good for a handful of wins by themselves but I truly think Miami is the big competition this year.
-
Looking these over, 10-6 is reasonable, return to the post season would be great. Vikings/Packers/Ravens aren’t gimmes, Bears you never know. Unless Belichick has a Bret Michaels-like event, his defense will button up a bit better than last year. Sanchez has to improve on the decision making & completions, if so and running/defense returns, we’re into playoffs and contending.
Love Rex’s candor – “I don’t want to be too greedy.” :)

Good analysis Bent. When i read this headline the other day, I thought there was no way it could be right. When i clicked the link and saw the way it was set up, it was clear that the poll was flawed (at least in terms of calculating what Jet fans think the team’s record will be.) It’s annoying and kind of upsetting to keep seeing this 15-1 prediction thrown around. It really makes Jet fans look like arrogant idiots.
-
Well said bent.
Here is another way of looking at it:
If 100 fans all thought the jets would go 8-8, but half thought we would lose the first 8 games, and the other half thought we would lose the last 8 then there would be a 50% rating for every single game. Then if one singe fan chimed in and thought they would win all 16 then every game would be a hair over 50% win prediction, and by their calculations every game would now be predicted to be a win, and it would look like all jets fans are predicting a 16-0 season even though nearly every fan thought they were going 8-8.
-
Where is Nate Silver when you need him.
-
What I dont like about this poll is that ESPN set us up for this…
They pick each game that we play and of course the majority of Jet fans wpuld look at each game and think we have a great shot to win.Its not just Jet fans.If they gave the same exact poll to the Patriots or Dolphins, they would probably say 15-1 also because the higher percentage for each game sets it up as a Win.Its an unfair poll if you ask me.If they gave this Poll to the Saints or Colts, they would say they would go Undefeated because they are favored in every matchup.
ESPN should have asked straght up what they think the Jets record will be, and than they would get a better more reasonable number.
My prediction is if they asked us what they thought our record would be, I would assume a logical number would be 12-4

NJets
Well Said…and ESPN and First take puts topics like this on all the time and outsiders who see it are like….MAN JETS FANS ARE IDIOTS
And every jet fan wonders why Everyone hates us fans. Its not the fan base…its the crap that the Media sets us up for and when we try to defend ourself, Everyone else looks at us like we are idiots and are in denial.Crap like this makes us Jet fans look bad where if everyone knew us well enough, they would know this….
Us Jet fans are more confident about our team, than we have ever been, and we are not the cocky type.We are happy when our team is winning and are really into our team.We will defend our team when haters hate respectively like every team would, but we are not going out there saying we are going undefeated and every other team is worse than us…..Its not like that at all.
Between Polls like this, and Francessa’s garbage, t makes us Jet fans look bad when its the Media that sets it up that way.
-
Not to mention every thing Rex Ryan says is Wrong, according to the media..
I remember after that Colt game where we beat the THAN undefeated Colts…Francessa Ripped us for Hours saying how we had No shot in the world at winning that game which is disrespectful as it is when Peyton Left we already had the lead….Than Giant fans liksten to this stuff and ACTUALLY believe his garbage.Than you have every Giant caller saying they are rooting for the Jets to lose because the idiotic Jet fans who are dillusional…IT MAKES ME SICK

lets be serious, when we lost the steelers a few years ago, when doug brian missed the 2 field goals, the following season, everyone was saying, superbowl this year including the coaches and players, and we all know what happens that year,we go 4-12,and herm leaves,so lets not jump the gun now, last year was great, but we had swiss cheese schedule and only managed to win 9 games, this year we have i think the 9th toughest schedule,so if we can go another 9-9 or 10-6 and make the playoffs,i will be thrilled to have back to back winning seasons.
-
9-7

Let’s be honest- we haven’t always deserved more respect than we got. We still have to prove it this season- no more stupid numbing losses at home against teams we should beat (Miami, Bills, Atlanta) when we have everything to play for and they have nothing.
