Although the start of the football season is months away, on ESPN.com yesterday a panel of 16 analysts, editors and producers compiled its preseason top-200 fantasy football list. The Jets (shocker) had nine players mentioned, tying them with the Saints and Vikings for most in the NFL.
19. Shonn Greene (12th-rated running back)
81. Braylon Edwards (30th-rated receiver)
88. Santonio Holmes (34th-rated receiver)
96. LaDainian Tomlinson (40th-rated running back)
100. Jets defense (top-rated defense)
107. Jerricho Cotchery (39th-rated receiver)
171. Mark Sanchez (21st-rated quarterback)
176. Dustin Keller (17th-rated tight end)
185. Joe McKnight (64th-rated running back)

Braylon Edwards ranked 3oth, on what grounds? What metric was applied here? The same question goes for Santonio…..Please don’t tell me that Desean Jackson is a top five. Keller at 17 ?

What metric was applied here? Was it a draft?

I have Greene for a 12th round retain! I’m psyched.

Braylon might be a little low, but with Holmes’ suspension, it’s harder to value for sure. Keller should be higher I would think. And Sanchez is understandable, but could have tremendous upside (as we all know).
Overall, pretty fair I’d say.

Interesting to note that thomas jones was rated way behind Shonn greene and Leon way behind La Damien!
We are 1 of only 4 teams that had 3 RB’s in the top 200. and all our receivers and the number one defense.
Maybe we do know what we are doing!!! -
LeSean,
16 fantasy football analysts each compiled their own lists of the top 200 players and then each list was combined to form this list.

Top rated defense? I’ll take it. Dustin’s underrated though.

Isn’t this rating system highly reliant not just on the talent of the player but how they will perform in the system they play in? In other words, the Jets receivers are judged not just on their talent but on the results they will pull down in the Jets offense?
If that’s the case, I’d say the Jets receivers did remarkably well. Also kind of interesting to see how well Greene did vs. TJ. Maybe the Jets aren’t so stupid after all.

Yeah, I don’t think any of the players are ranked too low. Although Edwards, Holmes, and Cotch are very good receivers, they won’t put up huge numbers in the Jets offense. Braylon Edwards was the 56th ranked receiver in terms of receiving yards and Cotchery was 35th. Cotchery’s role is probably going to be reduced significantly though with the addition of Holmes. Holmes had the 7th most receiving yards, but he is going to miss the first four games. I think Greene, Keller, LT, and Mcknight (if a RB gets injured) could all be very good value. Still, I think the rankings are very fair because Greene is still unproven, Keller didn’t put up huge numbers last year, LT was terrible in SD, and McKnight is the 3rd string back. I have no problem at all with the rankings. The Jets don’t do very well in fantasy football.

I want to meet these 16 tight ends who are better than Keller.

I am with Bent and Dylan. I think they are pretty good rankings. The problem on the jets FF-wise is that there are actually too many weapons. When you have three number one recievers who will get the ball.
Same issue with the running backs. RB by comittee, which the jets certainly employ, discounts them all.

I’d love to have these knuckleheads in my league. They rank Jonathon Stewart RB17 and Jamaal Charles as RB18. I’d take either once of those guys over Greene whom they have at RB12. If Gore didn’t get hurt last year, he would have finished at RB2. They rank him 6th. Pass on Turner at 8.

Man, I cannot wait for fantasy football

If Sanchez does play like the 21st-rated quarterback – JETS finish 7-9.

I personally think Sanchez, Keller, Holmes, Edwards and Cotchery are all rated too low.
