Link: Rex Isn’t Going to Worry About How Full the Stadium Is

by Bassett on May 15th, 2010 at 10:00 am

Rex Ryan downplays what the stadium situation could be like if there are a bunch of empty seats this fall.

"I’ll be honest with you. I’m there to whip somebody’s —," he told the Daily News Thursday. "So it doesn’t matter who’s there, who’s not there, whatever. I would love to have our stadium full and the fans going crazy and supporting us. That’s what you want. I feel it. We felt the energy from those fans."

Will it be disappointing if the Jets are not playing in front of a packed house? "I don’t care," Ryan said. "I’m going out there to whip somebody’s —. Home. Away. That’s my job. I don’t know the finances, people’s issues or whatever. I just know that we’re going to be a team that you’ll want to watch and you’ll want to come out. I’m going to say this: Our team over any team in the league – I would think you’d want to watch our team."

[….]

"Our idea is we’re going to make it worth your time, worth your money. That’s the type of team we want to put out there," Ryan said. "I’m not a guy that pushes tickets. I’m just saying whoever is in the stadium, it’s my job to get them to where they’re happy that they went to the game."

Anyone else want to bet that at some point Rex will use the ol’ Rowdy Roddy Piper line: “I’m here to chew bubble gum and kick some a__ … and I’m all out of bubble gum!”

  3. avatar Joe C from CT says:

Rex is a BEAST. Do not fret it will be a PACKED HOUSE! I want season tickets but MY MONEY IS FUNNY and MY POCKET AINT LAUGHING!

I hate to bring this up since we’re collectively ignoring this douche, but Florio spun this quote into a criticism directed at Rex yesterday. As usual it made me angry, but I should know better than to read the vitriolic garbage he puts up on PFT anyway.

I really hope the stadiums do fill.

Last year Week 2 against the Patriots. The fans were extremely helpful that game, especially the Pat’s last drive.

If you can’t get fired up with those comments being a Jets fan knowing your team is out to kick ass up and down the new stadium then you shouldn’t root for this team……….MAN I’M FIRED UP WHOOOOO!!!!

Anyhow let me calm down does anyone know the name of the new stadium yet or am I behind the times??

    @ron2473000

Nah they haven’t announced a stadium sponsor yet. They’re waiting on the decision to give NY the super bowl. If they get it, then they can charge twice as much for the naming rights cuz of the Super Bowl exposure when the game happens.

    JETBLUE Stadium…….has too happen!

  12. avatar James in TN says:

I’m with Rex, who cares if there are empty seats. I hope that the players put a ticket price cap in place if they have to take a smaller cut. This would keep owners in check.

As with everything, the more we win, the larger the fan pool. The more folks will want to be on the bandwagon.

There’ll be more corporations that will pick up top seats to look hip to their clients.

Then, once the team figures out how to slide single game tkts through some 3rd party source, so it doesn’t look like the Jets themselves are selling them, the place will really fill up.

But, cheers to Rex for putting the proper spin on this whole thing.

You know how expensive those PSL seats are? Trust me, people wanna go, I would love to have one of those seats. I can guarantee all the seats will be filled by season’s start. Rex better just go out there, and ”whip somebody’s ass”, and that’s the bottom line cause Rex Ryan said so.

  15. avatar brightfuture says:

Yes! I was at the week 2 game and it was the loudest i have ever heard if that was every game they would have a huge home field advantage

  16. avatar Reprocity says:

How do you not like Rex Ryan!?! He’s everything football use to be…

  17. avatar Harvlis says:

Could any coach have said it better. Rex is like a breath of fresh air. Mangini, the CIA agent, would have said “No comment.” I truly believe, Rex will bring us a championship. On the other hand, Woody can choke on his PSL’s, ridiculous seat prices, and his new stadium. It wasn’t built for Jet fans. It was built to plunder us.

    Harvlis,

thats what the rich do best…and that is also why they are rich…
