Link: Pearlman on NY Super Bowl

by Bassett on May 16th, 2010 at 2:06 pm

Excellent SI Columnist Jeff Pearlman explains from personal experience why he thinks a chilly day at the Super Bowl is a very, very, very bad idea.

Yes, but it will be fine if I watch it at home from my couch.

OMG, I don’t know why people have such a problem with the Superbowl being in NY, it’s only gonna happen once, and the fact that your at the Superbowl will negate all the bad weather around, and besides, thanks to Global Warming, it won’t be all that cold any ways

It’s not just the weather. The logistics of a NY/NJ Super Bowl are just awful. I can’t think of a worse place to host it…well, except maybe Buffalo.

  3. avatar mole57 says:

The weather? That’s all he’s got? Here’s my counter-argument: How awesome would it be to see a pussified dome team crash and burn on the biggest stage because they can’t handle the weather? This is football, after all.

Pearlman sounds like a little girl in that article

You know what also be a really bad idea, if the NHL decided to play a hockey game in an outdoor rink. It might snow and it would be really cold. Nobody would come and the games would be awful.

    Oh wait…..

Seriously, because some wimpy 14 year old kid doesn’t like the cold the NFL should play all their games in the south or indoors? Maybe they should mandate all games be played indoors because it might be windy or, heaven forbid, it might rain!

I liked the NFL a lot more when it was a game and not a vehicle to sell advertising.

I’m confused. Haven’t some of the most prominent Super Bowl games played in the snow? Besides, who said it’s going to snow on that date? None of use know.

  7. avatar Give Leon The Damn Ball (new name pending) says:

the coldest game i’ve ever been to was week 17 vs the bengals this past season. me and my bud got to that game 4 hours before kick off and we werent alone. no chance any other game in the meadowlands can get colder than that.

anyway, i hope we do get the superbowl. that way fair weather poons like perlman decide not to go and guys like me can get tickets

  8. avatar The Ed(itor) says:

It isn’t going to happen. The NFL values its sponsors too much to risk having it in a cold weather location without a dome or retractable dome on the stadium. If Woody wasn’t so cheap, a Super Bowl would have been very possible.

Besides, very few JETS fans will be able to get tickets and the ones that do will be high paying PSLers.

That guy needs to suck it up and be a man.

Brothers & Sisters I didn’t even bother to read his article instead I went straight to the people. Now all this doom and gloom over a Super Bowl in a cold true winter city and state is only clear example of how joe and jane fan doesn’t count for anything during that time of the season.Only the well to do’s and the rich and famous matter. They are the ones that can afford the tickets. But what I say is take some of that money from the tax free off shore accounts and BUY A FREAKIN COAT..

  11. avatar VIGUY007 says:

All NFL fans should want to see this happen. It will establish a precedent that will allow cold weather cities to be considered in the future. Power to the people.

  12. avatar charleyjet says:

I want to see about 20 inches of snow and the park empty. After all, who goes to Super Bowls? Not real fans, corporate sycophants.

  13. avatar Nerf says:

Weather is fine when it’s your team that you are going to see. If it is 2 random teams playing in a cold weather super bowl, all their fans will be fine, just cold. BUT, the vast majority of people at a super bowl are not fans of either team, they are corporate whomevers that got tickets for one reason or another and go to the parties and then go to the game since it’s a nice day out or in a dome. The NFL will not want 20,000 empty seats because random corporate fat-cats and their wives don’t want to sit in a blizzard. It has nothing to do with the teams or the teams fans. It’s all about the SPONSORS

  14. avatar OMG27 says:

    Nerf,
There is no way you actually believe there might be even ONE empty seat for the Super Bowl, here or in any other city in America. I can’t even believe anyone who lives in this area still hasn’t figured out how to keep warm in the winter.
You know Pearlman left that Giants game early not because of the cold, but because it was too scary to see all those big mean men hitting each other on the field.

  15. avatar mole57 says:

Maybe he left the game early because the score was 49-3.
