Link: Did Santonio Get His ‘Welcome to New York’ Moment?

While I’m sure they do things right in Pittsburgh, Santonio Holmes got a little lesson during OTAs in how Rex Ryan runs his practices and what it means to “play like a Jet.”  While sometimes in these practices the intensity level is dialed down, George Willis of the Post thinks that Revis was trying to send a little friendly message to his new teammate on one play in particular.

[Holmes’s] assignment on the particularly play was to come out to the flat and block All-Pro cornerback Darrelle Revis. No big deal right? Except Revis never feels like being blocked. Not in a game. Not in practice. So instead of absorbing Holmes’ soft hit, Revis delivered his own blow, knocking the former Super Bowl MVP flat on his rear end. Welcome to the Jets.

"He tried to block me and I kind of moved him out of the way," Revis said with smile. "I told him I was sorry afterward."

Actually, Revis wasn’t all that sorry. And after the initial shock of getting decked, Holmes didn’t seem to mind either.

"The more you do to me and the harder I work the better we all become,” Holmes said. "From what I’ve been accustomed to in Pittsburgh, it’s a lot different with these guys. They’re willing to work hard. There are no short cuts during practice and that’s what I like."

While last year we were all talking about the “bark” but were uncertain to this team’s “bite” it sure looks like that is a dead argument.  It’s great to hear these stories coming out of camp, and that the new players are getting a sense of what playing for a Rex Ryan team is about, and like.

Anyone got any Over/Under in days on first fight during training camp? :)

this is great news, overshadowed by the character concerns of the new comers, people seem to have forgot the rock solid character of the vast majority of the team leftover from last year.

Guys in this kind of relaxed environment usually don’t fight. So whatever it is, I’ll take the over.

Boy I wish I could watch training camp! The battles! How good do you get playing with and against Revis and Co.? Work ethic and character, check! I like the leader Revis is becoming. I know atheletes talk a good game but these Jets say it and sound like they Smell What The Rex is Cooking!

Day 4…. Joe “I need $” McKnight gets put on his ass by the Mad Backer and takes it personal.

  9. avatar juunit says:

You forgot that McKnight would also have to puke while rolling on the ground after receiving the hit.
