Link: Jacobs Believes This Is Giants Country

by Weeks on May 22nd, 2010 at 9:48 am

Our good friend Corey Griffin, who can be found at Sixth Man of the Year, was kind enough to pass on some interesting comments from the Giants’ Brandon Jacobs. Ohm Youngmisuk reports that the running back believes New York still belongs to the Giants and they are not to be considered the ‘other team.’

Rex Ryan’s Jets are as sexy as a runway super model right now in New York.

But the last time Brandon Jacobs checked, the Giants are the New York football team with the most recent bling.

The Jets may be the darlings of New York at the moment, but Jacobs scoffs at the notion that the Giants, who won Super Bowl XLII during the 2007 season, are now the “other” team in New York.

“We will never be the ‘other team’ for the simple reason that we have a Super Bowl ring,” the running back said Friday after the Giants’ offseason training activity session.

“I think we have to win another championship and get the talking back to the Giants,” Mathias Kiwanuka said in April. “Good for them [the Jets] but you are not winning championships in the offseason.

I don’t know about you but if anything this should motivate the Jets to really bring their A-game on gameday. After years of being ‘the other team,’ playing in a stadium that was named after a rival and taking the ‘Same Old Jets’ crap, the Jets are getting some recognition and respect for their recent efforts. It doesn’t necessarily make them the new face of New York but if I were the Giants, I would certainly view the team as a threat considering what the Jets have been able to accomplish as of late in terms of adding new talent (and maintaining a burning desire to win a ring).

But I digress, what are your thoughts on the matter? Are the Jets slowly pushing the Giants out? Will the Jets be able to justify their offseason adjustments by the end of the season? Is Jacobs right or wrong?

“We will never be the ‘other team’ for the simple reason that we have a Super Bowl ring”

If I’m reading this right, he is proclaiming these Jets will never win a ring?

  2. avatar jmac_the_man says:

The fact is that the Jets are a stronger team than the Giants right now. They had more wins, a playoff run, and more media coverage. The Jets can play with the big boys of the NFL, and the Giants, in a word, cannot.
Jets fans, this could be our year. Get ready for the bandwagon.

  3. avatar Doctor K says:

Just sour grapes on Jacobs part, getting all huffy because the Jets are in the spotlight. For once the media attention is on Gang Green with a positive spin and Big Blue nation is getting their panties in a bunch.
Super Bowl 42 will always be remembered not for the Giants winning it, but how the Pats lost perfection.

  4. avatar johnl says:

the giants got a FLUKE ring.

  5. avatar R in CT says:

I think he’s a 100% right in the sense that if you want respect and adulation, you need to win a championship. They have won one recently — and two others within the last 25 years, thus they have earned the right be “the” team in New York.

This sickens me to say, by the way, but it’s the truth. Until the Jets win a championship, they can make all sorts of noise, but they are still the “other” team. It’s just the way it is.

  6. avatar Mark Sanchez says:

Jacobs needs to read up on his football history. Our Super Bowl 3 upset, tops their Pats upset any day of the week.

  7. avatar neville says:

I just wrote a paragraph but it sounded like garbage so i’m resorting to numbered points.
    1. Yeah, we get it, winning the offseason doesn’t always translate into winning more games.
    2. Doesn’t Jacobs sound much more jaded that Kiwan… and just Tuck?
    3. Do you think that is because he knows he going to stink it up this year because nobody can take that type of pounding for that long with that upright, no cutting, running style?
    4. Memo to Mr. Greene – read number 3 again, put the cheetos away (Cimini said he’s fat) and take care of your effing body because we are up shts creek without a paddle if you break another rib.
    5. As much as I like the Giants, I can’t wait to shove it in their face if we can put this puppy together.
    6. David Wright stinks
    7. I love this site.

  8. avatar sexy rexy says:

like I said earlier, Jacobs was horrible last year. Guy is soft as tissue, thankfully he is not on my team : )

  9. avatar neville says:

    Hey Sancho,
1969 was quite sometime ago. How long can we play that card?

  10. avatar Matty D says:

I dont think that we’re pushing the Giants out, I think we’re on our way to be being a respectable organization LIKE the Giants. The Giants were here first so there will always be more Giants then Jets fans, just like the Yankees with the Mets.

  11. avatar Mark Sanchez says:

So what… we still won one. It’s not like we “never” got a ring. How long are the Giants going to play their Super Bowl card? They are horrible now. The past is the past for both teams, and in the present, the Jets are the team of NY.

  12. avatar johnsec.125 says:

what the giants did three years ago is no more relevant than what the jets did forty one seasons ago. it’s now that matters. as for this who owns new york crap, this is, has been, and always will be, a TWO team town. whichever team is having more success on the field will be considered “new york’s team” as jet fans we know better. the giant fans on the other hand will never admit it. i will say this, if that west side stadium went through, the jets would have been better off. distancing themselves from the giants would have been great for the team’s image. sheldon silver the person responsible for voting the project dow, is a moron.

  13. avatar sexy rexy says:

I’m sorry, but for some reason I could never grasp the notion of the Giants being this super respected organization. I know they won the super bowl ring which was cool, but I dont know, they just seem so weak to me.

    /biased Jets fan
    /TRUTH

  14. avatar TJBfan says:

The Jets won the last game in Giants stadium while the Giants were blasted in their last appearance. Jets made it to the Afc championship, have hard knocks, the most talked about coach in the league, the biggest moves in the offseason and a lethal secondary on what finished as number one defense…..

Giants may have won a superbowl a few years ago but fact is we are moving into a new home and Jets are marking their territory hard.

  15. avatar brian311 says:

He should shut his mouth. The way the gmen laid down and died at the end of the season was pathetic.

  16. avatar Justin Rivera says:

One winning season in a while and suddenly ur nipples get hard… Hey do ur homework we’ve made the playoffs way more than you have in the last 10 years… Clearly we are the Yankees of ny and you guys will for ever b the mets… It’s sad but it’s reality… Wen ur qb is saying their sb 3 win is a bigger upset you jus get the feeling he’ll throw about another 20 interceptions this yr… Big blue baby! Get out our damn stadium find ur own in the swamp somewhere smh

  19. avatar rollercoaster says:

I have to agree with him. We had an ok season last year, but a fantastic post-season. We have momentum, but I still see the Giants as the premier league. Hopefully we can get another ring so we can close the gap :)

  20. avatar jim says:

heres the deal….rex and mark are more interesting than your guys will ever be,,,,pretty soon we’ll win it all, maybe this year, and then it ill be 3-2….were coming, were better coached were better managed and we have better young players……cant wait til february….giants, my ass….played like a bunch of high school girls last year….

Couldn’t agree more. Both 2007 Giants fans and ’69 Jets fans need to live in the present. Fact of the matter is, we’re coming off a run to the AFC Championship game and have made a number of offseason moves to improve our team further. The Giants made it to the …… oh that’s right you didn’t make it to anything. Well at least during the off season you all……. oh that’s right, yall haven’t done much this offseason either.

  22. avatar Randy says:

HAHA some Giant Fan goes into a Jet forum surrounded by Jet Fans. Who is he going to convince.

Giant Fans are jealous og Jets getting the attention.Thats its, point blank simple.

    (Namecalling deleted)

  23. avatar Randy says:

First off, Giant Fans have no right acting like the Yankees of new York. For 1, the yankees won 26 Championships. the Giants? 3!!! Jets 1!

I really see no dramatic difference between 3-1..If we win this year, it makes us look better because we have 2 and they have 3, but we won the most up to date Superbowl.

jets gotta win this year and shut these cocky Giant fans up once and for all.The Fan base will always be split and Giants should not hog ALL the attention in NY.

  24. avatar Jacob says:

Right now the giants are being treated by the media as NY’s other team. There are several reasons for this, but except for big blue’s mediocre play last season, they all stem back to Rex.

They and their fans are not used to this and so are jealous. As a hardcore Jets fan of more than 30 years, I have no problem with them getting to learn what that feels like.

That said, we need hardware to make this real.

Another point: I’ve lived in New England for more than 20 years, the last 18 in the Boston area. I will always be grateful to the giants for XLII. The agony of the pats bandwagon for weeks following was an utterly wonderful thing to behold.

The other great thing about XLII is that until the pats win another SB (hopefully never), their last appearance on the greatest stage in sports was nothing other than the greatest choke job in the history of sports.

    I still relish it.

Listen to you all bickering over who’s the better team in NY. I spent 26 years in the military and I love all NY teams because I had to deal with the NY haters throughout my career. Everywhere I go I’m being asked who am I going to pick in any championship, and I say, “NY of cousre”. So stop tripping and give each NY team it’s due for winning.

I’m now residing in Alaska after I retired, and I’m still being told from NY haters that I have to pick between the NY teams and I refuse because I’m down with NY no matter what.

I see it as having more opportunity to boast, especially at work. Go NY teams. However, I truly hate when they play each other. I guess I am still a winner no matter what.

For the record, I was born and raised in the South Bronx before I enlisted back in 82!

Also, I do believe Jet fans need to chill, because I know what it feels like getting talked about for having a losing season for so many years, so learned to be humble and enjoy the ride. The G-Men certainly earned to be on top and Jet fans better not sleep on the G-Men. I would love to see another ALL NY SuperBowl like the Mets & Yankees did. Boy, I’ll be King on the job talking smack representing NY in Anchorage AK.

  27. avatar rusty sanchez says:

giants got their 3 superbowls so why act like little girls when we get a little positive attention…whats more important jacobs winning or your name in the newspaper??in the last 5 months we made it further in the playoffs and made alot more offseason transactions so of course we are going to get more attention it goes hand and hand…jacobs is about to fizzle out anyways only matter of time that style of running lasts

  28. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

I dont know how any Jets fan can call the Giants SB win a “fluke”…

My whole family are DIE HARD Gmen fans…I am the black sheep who lives and dies with my J E T S….

But you can’t deny that the Giants are a class organization with some really great teams and have had more success than our Jets…

But the truth is, PRESENTLY, the Jets have the better, more attractive sqaud…its just a fact. They have a budding superstar HC, and are loaded with game breaking athletic players….

Let Jacobs say what he wants, the Jets play like they should this year, he aint going to be able to say or do anything about it

  29. avatar Shamik says:

This is a stupid issue. Who cares? They rarely ever play eachother anyway. I was happily rooting for the Giants to plant Brady’s smug ass into the ground in that superbowl, and I have no love for Philly and Dallas either. I always root for the Green and White, but dont begrudge the Giants success.

That being said, I hope they go 0-16 and we win the damn Superbowl. And then, in 2014 when theres the NYC superbowl all the announcers keep slipping up and refer to “Jets Stadium”

  30. avatar Saal says:

Okay all Jet fans, the Giants have ovbiously been a BETTER franchise. WOO HOO ! Jets do good ONE season, compared to the Giants, who have done good WAY more. YYeah okay, you guys made the AFC CHAMPIONSHIP, but hmm.. didnt the Giants just make the NFC Championship 3 years ago ? And win a Superbowl. If the jets won the SB, me and all of my many Giants fans wouldnt talk as much crap. MY FINAL WORDS ; WE GIANTS FANS DO NOT HATE THE JETS ! YOU GUYS HATE US BECAUSE WE HAVE BEEN BETTER ! THAT IS EXACTLY RIGHT AND YOU KNOW IT ! SO SHUUT IT AND BE HAPPY THE GIANTS HAVE BEEN REPPIN’ NY FOR THE PAST 25 YEARS ! KAAY SHUUTUP NOW.

It sure sounds like the Jets are on the giants minds. Brandon “twinkle toes” Jacobs is not tough enough to make any statements imo. He is on the sidelines every other play to nurse injuries!!!! It kills me with all the chemistry questions surrounding the Jets. What about the Giants???? I remember Osi whining and complaining that if he doesnt start he will retire. Why not fight for your job like a man and be a team player. As far as Jacobs is concerned didnt he whine and cry that the Giants did not need to draft CJ spiller? Guys on the Giants are not team players. There are more problem players and malcontents on the Giants than on the Jets. but all you hear from the media is the Jets baggage. Take a closer look at both teams and it is not even close… Jets are more talented ,more exciting, more fun, and more professional than the Giants. THIS IS A NEW AGE FOLKS….THE JETS WILL RULE AND THIS WILL BE OUR TOWN AND THE LITTLE GIANTS CANT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT…J E T S JETS JETS JETS!!!!!!!

  33. avatar SackDance99 says:

In general, I don’t like Yankees-Mets to Giants-Jets comparisons. However, I think some NY sport history should be mentioned. Until the Yanks’ recent WS run, which started in 1996, the Mets would routinely out-draw the Yanks. NYC was considered a “National League” town because many fans with Dodger-Giant allegiances shifted over to the Mets. Only one thing united Dodgers and Giants fans: hatred of the Yanks. What transformed NYC into a Yankee town was winning. The Yanks have been baseball’s best franchise since 1996 and New Yorkers love a winner. Also, the generation that rooted for the Brooklyn Dodgers and NY (baseball) Giants are either grandparents or great-grandparents now. That’s 2-3 generations ago.

This history lesson is relevant because the old NFL Giants generation is similarly dying off. So, for the Jets to become the no. 1 team, like the Yanks, all they have to do is put together a winning dynasty. IMO, it was the Parcells-LT Giants mini-dynasty that made the Jints the no. 1 team, not their long and mostly disappointing NFL history. If the Jets win a couple of Super Bowls, NYC will turn Jet green pretty quickly.

Also, if Sanchez is a winning SB QB, his popularity might transcend sports allegiances because of his Latino heritage (the Mexican President’s wife had a Sanchez jersey and asked Mark to autograph it!). With “Hard Knocks” coming, the irony may be that the Jets are NYC’s 2nd team, but more popular nationally and internationally! The Jets could be the Team of the Americas, rather than the no. 2 team in NYC.

  34. avatar Giants Fan says:

You guys are crazy….when was the last time the Jets made it to the playoffs before last year? If you watched the interview youd see that a reporter goated him into replying the way he did…that same reporter asked EVERYONE on the team the same question..go to giants.com and you’ll see what i’m talking about.

Fact of the matter is….the jets haven’t done anything in years. Yes you’re team still won even though Sanchez sucked most of the year and yes the defense was amazing..but to think you are the #1 team in NY after making the playoffs TWICE in the last FIVE years is nutty. Lets not even discuss the last time you guys made it to the superbowl. Have more of a history of winning THEN come back and pound your chest proclaiming this is JETS country…not until then.

  35. avatar BigBlueFan says:

This is so typical. Jets fans have a season where their defense and QB played awful for most of the year and things broke right and they got in the playoffs. Good for them. One 9 – 7 year does not make you a superbowl contender.

The Giants, an elite NFL franchise, had one bad year at 8-8 and that makes them an awful team.

Hey Jets Fans, WIN SOMETHING. ANYTHING! If you are the number one team, how come you can’t even sell out Giants stadium for your home games.

Giants win and lose with class, Jets lose like trash.

  36. avatar RyanM says:

giants fan, look at the back pages of news papers. not just locally but nationally as well. the jets are the talk of the nfl right now. giants country? with the exception of a few true big blue fans ur all frontrunners, u all came out of the woodwork when the g men beat the pats in the sb. i hate to break it to u frontrunning giant fans but the big deal about that superbowl wasnt that the giants beat the pats, it was the fact that they went 18-1. thats how the game will be remembered. ny is bleeding green

  37. avatar RyanM says:

the d played like crap? u have ur teams d mixed up with the jets. the jets had the number 1 d in the nfl last year.

  38. avatar Giants Fan says:

    RyanM,

Thank you for demonstrating the nutty thinking I was just talking about. Please take off your foggy goggles and look at things the way the really are. You cant be the team of NY having the last time you’ve been to the superbowl more than 40 years ago. You made the playoffs last year….BIG DEAL! I know it seems like a reason to celebrate but come on….the giants have been doing that for years now. As i said before…have another winning year theen talk..or…win a SUPERBOWL then talk.

AGAIN….kudos to the JETS defense…they got you guys to the play offs last year.

  39. avatar Giants Fan says:

Side note: I grew up a Giants fan. I’ve been one since I was 6 years old. Never been a front runner in my life…I’m still a knicks fan.

  40. avatar RyanM says:

giants “fan” listen, just the simple fact that ur on this website just proves my point. u want to see whats going on with the most interesting team in the nfl right now. i get it, so does the rest of the country. face it, the gang green holds the attention of ny right now, i dont care what ur team has won. ny always has been and always will be a what have u done for me lately kinda town. so keep bringing up HISTORY, us jets fans will live in the here and now

  41. avatar RyanM says:

good for u, like i said, with a few exceptions

  42. avatar Giants Fan says:

LOL you have no idea how I wound up on this website. I was on the GIANTS news page on sportsillustrated.com and this was the first link because the GIANTS name was mentioned. Then when i saw it was a blog i wanted to see what kind of crap was being talked. My interest is in you Jets fans not your Jets team. And i understand why you wouldnt want to look at history(even tho, last year is considered history)…history doesn’t favor you.

Things we can both agree on:

Rex Ryan has energized your fan base
The Jets defense played lights out last year(I personally was jealous of the Jets linebacker and safety play)
The Jets made some good additions in the off season

If you guys can build on your success this year..GREAT! But to say you’re the team of NY with 1 good year….kinda crazy. Not sure how you can’t see that.

  43. avatar BigBlueFan says:

I guess Ryan M thinks that headlines and ESPN coverage makes you a good team. Obviously, a Jets fans do feel that way because they have no experience with winning on the field.

Us Giants fans, who actually support their team by buying tickets at the New Giants Stadium, worry about winning on the field.

BTW: I like going on this website because stupid people make me laugh.

  44. avatar BigBlueFan says:

To bad this Bleeding Green town won’t be able to watch their games on TV.

  45. avatar RyanM says:

im not saying were the best team in the nfl, my personal opinion is that the jets a are better team right now. im not saying that because we had a good year this is our town, my point is the media attention is on the jets right now. we are the talk of ny, thats beyond evident

  46. avatar Giants Fan says:

    I think we finally agree.

  47. avatar brian311 says:

    go away, troll

  48. avatar SackDance99 says:

The Giants play in the NFC, which has generally been the weaker conference for the past 10 years and the Jets play in the same division as a dynasty team. Since 2000, the Giants have made the playoffs 6 times, been in the Super Bowl twice, and won one. Kudos. The Jets have been in the playoffs 5 times and made the AFC Championship game once. So, it’s fair to say that the Giants have had more playoff success (one season they squaked in with an 8-8 record, which is the difference between the teams because twice the Jets had 9-7 records and missed the playoffs), but they really haven’t been so much better, except for the Super Bowl win. In fact, besides making the Super Bowl twice, the Giants have been defeated in the first round of the other playoff seasons, including losing twice to their arch-rival Eagles. The Jets in their 5 playoff appearances were defeated in the first round twice.

Given the difference in the quality of their conferences and their divisions, we can only guess about what would happen if the Jets were in the NFC East and the Giants in the AFC East. This is especially true because since 2000, the Jets have had 7 winning seasons to the Giants 5…something that most Giants fans likely don’t know.

So, besides that Super Bowl win, the Giants really haven’t been a much better team and those 4 first round losses, including 2 at home, have to sting. A Super Bowl win by the Jets and, arguably the Jets have been the far better team since 2000. And, what is most definitely true since 2000 is that the Jets are likelier to have a winning regular season record.

  49. avatar BigBlueFan says:

SackDance is genius! What would happen if the Cheifs were in the NFC? How bout the Seahawks in the AFC? You arguement about switching divisions and records is ridiculous! What if we switched players? What if we switched uniforms?

HOW CAN YOU DISMISS A SUPERBOWL WIN? The only thing that matters is Winning Championships! That is the only thing that matters. The Giants are a better franchise because they win Championships! Case closed.

  50. avatar BigBlueFan says:

BTW: Add up the records, Giants have the better Win/Loss since 2000.

  51. avatar Who Cares? says:

Like Big Blue Fan, I got here through the Giants page on SI.com. The only thing that matters is what happen on the field, not in the headlines. As a Giant fan, I really wish B. Jacobs would just shut his mouth, and see if he can play a full season without his nagging injuries. The Jets had a great playoff run and an eventful off season. Good for them, the only time I’ll actively root against the Jets is when Big Blue is across the line of scrimmage. As a lifelong Giant fan, I used to hate the Jets, but as I get older, why bother. Good football is good football.

  52. avatar RyanM says:

big blue, the jets are the better team right now, on paper and on the field. the fact that ur still arguing this is absurd. like i said before most of u giant fans are frauds, so get off the page. u just confirm the fact that most giant fans are whining frontrunner that are just jealous that the jets have more attention on them.

  53. avatar BigBlueFan says:

Ryan M, We finally agree, the Jets do have more attention. Obviously attention is all Jets fans have or want. Giants fans want championships and a winning reputation, good thing we have both.

Giants fans are real fans, that is why we actually support our team. Even the Buffalo Bills sell out their stadium!

  54. avatar RyanM says:

i cant speak for the rest of the fans but i know i have my seats. and no the attention isnt all we want, its what we have which is what ive simply stated more than once. u i can tell, is just a jealous fan.

  55. avatar BigBlueFan says:

Jealous of an HBO show and a Gary Myers column. That doesn’t make any sense.

Jets fans are jealous of our multiple championships.

  56. avatar RyanM says:

giant fans are real fans? hardly, like i said, so many of u so called fans came out of the woodwork when the giants won the sb. frauds

  57. avatar RyanM says:

if we were frontrunners or jealous we would be giant fans like u and the rest of the frauds

  58. avatar BigBlueFan says:

How are we frauds? We did WIN three superbowls. They weren’t handed to us.

If jets are real fans, and NY is a jets town, how come they can’t sell out their stadium? Answer that.

  61. avatar hvclb47 says:

i agree with ryan m, frauds!

  62. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

I dont get why the Giants fans have to rip the Jets…the reason the Jets as a team were celebrated the way they were for making the AFC Championship is because the team wasn’t supposed to make that kind of run for another year or two. The Jets broke out late in the season, and are a young team filled with budding stars( Revis, Mangold, David Harris, Shonn Greene, Mark Sanchez, etc), who just happened to break out earlier than expected. Thats all it is. They vastly exceeded people’s expectations. And when you do that, and the core of the team is young, people expect more of it to come. Thats why people are focusing on the Jets “after only making the AFC Championship”

The Giants are a great organization run by the Mara family, who if not for them, the NFL would not be what it was today. You’ve got 3 rings to the Jets 1. Thats great. No one is telling you the Giants dont have some really great players (some who I greatly admire…Eli, Tuck, Kenny Phillips to name a few)and some great football people over there as well. You will have more fans because, lets face it, you were here first.

But why knock the Jets? They have a dynamite defensive HC, a talented young QB, and playmakers on both sides of the ball. They are getting attention because they have the makeup of a team ready to make a run at a title.

Please dont make your argument based on the Mike Francesca mentality of “how many championships you won”. Mike F only speaks for white, rich or upper middle class guys from the suburbs. Other than that the man has no clue what the rest of NY does.

Whoever wins more in NY gets the back pages, the media attention and the key to NYC. Thats just the way it goes. But dont think that if the Giants have an 8-8 season and the Jets replicate the success they had, that the Giants will rule NY. People will care, and a lot of the fringe fans will sway towards the green and white. It goes the same way if the Giants or more successful. Whoever wins more in NY, thats whose town it is….

  63. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

“If jets are real fans, and NY is a jets town, how come they can’t sell out their stadium? Answer that.”

    Its all PSL related.

If those tickets were individually sold to season ticket holders, the Jets would sell out every game within minutes.

The only seats arent sold are PSL seats. Maybe some “real” fans value putting food on the table over buying PSL’s.

Just cause you’re poor doesnt make you any less of a fan than the rich guy

  64. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

    Big Blue

And the Jets will never be blacked out on TV.’

I know you are a Giants fans so I dont expect you to pay attention, but the Jets and Woody Johnson have publicly stated that they will buy the unsold seats themselves before a game is ever blacked out.

They are just waiting it out to sell as many PSLs as they can before it comes time to sell them individually or bite the bullet.

You have a good franchise to root for that does things the right way…stop embarrassing yourself and other Giants fans by carrying on in this childish “my dad can beat up your dad” fashion

  65. avatar BigBlueFan says:

Giants fans, which every jealous Jets fan are calling frauds sold out their stadiums with PSLs. To me, that proves that real fans are willing to pay.

  66. avatar BigBlueFan says:

This isn’t a My dad beat your dad arguement. This is a discussion about how Jets fans are now putting down the Giants because they had one season where they finished two games above .500.

  67. avatar Brendan says:

Giants fans, you were the ones who came here to wage battle, not the other way around. The Giants are a team in decline…their o-line is old, their rbs are questionable, their linebackers are awful. To whichever one of you listed you jealousies left out cornerback…..um, what? The Giants have suffered from shotty cb play for years while the Jets have Revis.

And wasn’t Jacobs supposed to retire? The Giants lucked out last year by playing literally the 5 worst teams in their early-season run. As soon as they started playing real teams they started losing.

I don’t personally hate the Giants, but don’t come here talking about titles in the 80′s and 90′s and make it seem like the Giants are a dynasty.

  68. avatar JesusRevis says:

    BigBlueFan,

you must not be much of a fan, because apparently you are unaware that the Giants have NOT sold out their stadium yet either.

This has nothing to do with “who has the best fans”, its all a PSL issue and peopel are not willing to buy the expensive seats, for both the Jets and the Giants.

And while the Jets have much more open seats left than the Giants do, both teams still have empty seats, so you are wrong in your claims.

And I have plenty of close friends who are die-hard Giant fans, and they will readily admit that the Jets fan base is a louder more energetic group, which is clear when you go to games, so stop with this “The Giants have real fans” garbage because its simply false.

  69. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

    Big Blue

Yes it is. You are trying to say Giants fans are real fans over Jets fans because of a monetary issue in a harsh economic climate.

I think the point you fail to realize is that the Jets, their fans and the national and local media all made such a big deal about the two games over .500 season because they GREATLY EXCEEDED EXPECTATIONS.

Thats what happens when you are AHEAD of schedule. The rest of the country takes notice.

They are recieving the attention now because the best, young pieces of that team are still there, ready to go, to take that next step

  70. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

    Big Blue

Its really a question of economics and the demographics of the annual income of a Giants season ticket holder vs a Jets season ticket holder. Until you can come up with the numbers that show Jets and Giants season ticket holders share similar annual incomes, you cannot possibly know what you are saying to be true. Besides the fact that it is relatively common knowledge that the Giants season ticket holders pass down tickets from generation to generation , come from “old money” and are older, more financially stable people as opposed to the younger Jets fan base. Look at the stands on Sundays. Lot of old faces at Giants games, lot of young ones at Jets.

Beside the point, why you can rest on the laurels of the past, the question is “who’s team is it right now”. You can rehash history but the fact still remains that whoever wins in NY, thats whose town it is….its a “what have you done for me lately” type city.

I think some of the points you made are why Giants fans are Giants fans. The class front office, the tradition, the great SB wins. But the score is only 3 to 1. Its not the Yankees 27-2 (even though that s horrible comparision bc the Yanks have been around almost 60 years before the Mets…Im a Yankee fan btw). Thats great.

Im a Jets fan because I like the renegade AFL mentality. Its just how I like my football team. But New York is big enough for 2 teams. The Giants will have the larger, older more established fan base, who will be more quiet when times arent so good. The Jets have the younger, more volatile fans who will look for respect during the good times and absolutely boo the s#it out the team when they stink. Then you have the fringe people who will jump from bandwagon to bandwagon.

So yes, you have the bigger, more tenured fan base. But New York is a huge place pal. There are plenty of people, and young kids 8-15 at that, who are growing up right now who will hop on that green and white bandwagon if the Jets continue to improve and exceed expectations.

  71. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

Yea and its not even a knock on Giants fans. Some of my best friends are Giants die hards and they LOVE what Rex and the Jets have been doing. And when the Giants beat down Brady in the SB, I rooted for them the whole way through and we went out to the bar after and I bought them all drinks as a thank you They stay loyal to Big Blue, which is a great football organization, but they arent delusional enough to think that the Jets dont have something really great cooking.

I just dont get what is ingrained in some of these Giants fans to simply knock the Jets at every turn and bring up things that happened 20 years ago when the point is what is happening in the present…

Not to mention that there really isnt that much of a rivalry for me with the Giants. In the modern Super Bowl era, the score is only 3 to 1. The Giants are obviously the older, more established franchise, but its not like its 10 to 1.

Giants fans, more power to ya, continue rooting for the GMen. Just dont be delusional or pigheaded enough to think that if the Jets continue the success they’ve had, that New York isnt a big enough or impatient enough place that people wont jump ship real fast

  72. avatar BigBlueFan says:

I agree, New York is a big place. There are plenty of fans for both teams.

The idea that the Jets have taken over as the number one team is town because they had one lucky season is crazy. Its typical Jets, they did teh same thing after Mangini’s first season, or did you forget.

And in a what have you done for me lately, lets take a look at the Jet’s season. THey only need to play 14 games since Indy and Cincy took off (you kidding yourself if you think anything different). So, in the 14 games you actually had to win, you were 7-7. So that makes you so much better than the 8-8 Giants who were beset by injury and poor coaching. Logic would dictate that the Giants finishing 8-8 with all of their challenges is more impressive than the Jets who were given 2 games. So in a what have you done for me lately, THe Giants are even with the Jets. (I am following your logic, not mine. Please feel free to back track because I proved you wrong.)

And JesusRevis, the disparity in tickets unsold is overwhelming. Jets need to sell $22000, Giants need to sell $1500.

  73. avatar JesusRevis says:

    BigBlueFan,

I dont know where you got those numbers from or what they are even supposed to mean, but I dont believe them to be true.

Also, your last post comparing the Jets season to the Giants season was laughable, the Jets won 2 big road playoff games which you didnt even mention.

  74. avatar Brendan says:

    Bigblue,

You’re not being realistic. Jets didn’t have injuries? Jenkins, Sanchez, Leon, Greene, Cotchery, Scott/Harris, Pace’s four game suspension (and the list goes on). Maybe, and maybe I’m just being silly, but maybe so-called experts who chastised the Jets’ “lack” of depth while praising the Giants “depth” were clueless. Jets handled their injuries much better than the Giants did…so find a new excuse.

The Colts played their starting defense for 3 quarters in week 16. It wasn’t the Jets beating up on people like us. No guarantee that’s a loss.

And I’m guessing you didn’t mean dollar signs there becuase that’s a comically low number if you meant it. And a comically high one if you meant it in terms of seats.

  75. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

Oh there will be no back tracking, you havent even dented my argument with your delusional one sided train of thought. Yea its what have you done for me lately…you fool. The Jets went on a playoff run no one dreamed they could do with a rookie QB and rookie HC. THAT DOESNT HAPPEN IN HT NFL OFTEN. Are you smoking crack? Thats what they’ve done. The Giants closed out the year by getting THUMPED, KILLED, EMBARASSED on the field. If that equals the same thing, I dont know what universe you are living in. The fact that you’ve even tried to argue that is laughable in itself.

That 7-7 record came from Sanchez rookie struggles and new coach getting adjusted and a team learning a new scheme. The point everyone is making is that once Sanchez grew up and stopped losing games for the Jets, they were a damn good football team. How’d Eli and the Giants do Eli’s rookie year?

You can have Indy. Most overachieving teams gets a break and that was the Jets break. But they made the most of it, instead of wasting it. No Jets fan should EVER apologize for that. You do know they went to Cincy and BEAT that Bengals team on the road that GAVE them that first one right? Then went on the road again and BEAT a Charger team that went 12-4. Do you even bother to think about what you post before you post?

And injuries? The Jets lost Jenkins, a NT which is one of the most the most vital piece in a 3-4 defense and Leon Washington.

That last post was a joke. Seriously an out and out disaster. Logic would dictate that you are trying to sound intelligent and you dont know what the hell you are talking about

  76. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

I cant believe he actually posted that…its ridiculous that I even entertained that post

  77. avatar BigBlueFan says:

I hope delusion comforts you Brendan.

I will call the press and let them know that the numbers they quoted, which I quoted, have been proven wrong by someone named Brendan and JesusRevis on a Jets blog. I guess you know more than the NY Post, Daily News, NY Times and WSJ, Associated press, etc..

The Colts can play their starting defense for 7 quarters, its the fact that #17 didn’t play.

  78. avatar JesusRevis says:

#17? You mean Peyton Manning? Who is #18?

    You are officially done, goodnight

  79. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

This guy is the worst ever…worse than Dolphins fans

  80. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

ANd Peyton actually played into the 3rd quarter so I dont know where “#17 didnt play?

Big Blue obviously just recites Mike Francesca’s show and hasnt watched more than 1 or 2 Jets games this year

  81. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

Wheres the link stating that Big Blue??? Post it

  82. avatar Brendan says:

Big Blue? You mean the number 18 who played more than half the game? That one?

  83. avatar kennydajet says:

Here we go again…..The Giants have HISTORY and the PAST. The Jets have the PRESENT and the FUTURE IMO. Only time will tell. I believe in 10 years this will not even be a discussion the Jets are WAAAAAAAY more talented and WAAAAAy more fun and WAAAY more exciting. When the Giants have had success I dont believe that Jets fans were on their sites trying to hate on them…..that just proves OUR point. Sleep well little giants because in the words of the grear REX RYAN………THE JETS ARE COMING!!!!!!
