Zach Thomas decided to call it quits Friday after a 13 year career. In an interview 790 The Ticket in Miami when looking back on his career, Thomas wanted to make one thing is clear. He hates the Jets and their fans.
On former teammate and recent brother-on-law Jason Taylor going to the Jets, a team Thomas had just said that he ‘hated’:
“It feels the same, it doesn’t change a bit. That’s the business side of it with Jason going out there. But he’s always going to be a Miami Dolphin. You’ve got to look at all the great things, you can’t just take what goes on outside of here. But yeah I definitely hate the Jets. I hope Jason has a record year with sacks, but you know what? I hope they go 0-16.”
On what it was like when Jason Taylor first started dating his sister:
“I tell you what, it wasn’t because he was a friend and everything. It wasn’t weird. I said, just respect her. I don’t care, whatever you’re doing is up to my sister in that whole ordeal. But you know what? Now that you’re talking about the Jets – you know what? I heard every little thing pre-game about my sister and Jason. Every year. I mean they got so nasty. It was kind of funny now that I look back at it. They went at me hard and they even went at Jason saying my sister looks like me with long hair, things like that. They went hard, but those are the things I really miss . The pre-game warmups on the road. They think they’re helping the team out telling you these things, it only motivates you. It was awesome. You’ve got to give it to them. Even though I hate them, they’re passionate fans, but I feel like our fans are even more passionate. And hopefully they do the same thing to all these Jets players when they’re warming up on the sideline.“

Instead of hating Jason Taylor, I am now going to root for him after reading this. If we can win the big one with him, he’ll never be able to say stuff like this… ever… and it will ruin it for him, but not for me!
Zach Thomas ye of all 3 playoff wins i bid you adieu thinking of the end of the Tomorrow soliloquy.
It is a tale, told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing. -
Tim Graham at ESPN’s AFC East blog asked three members of the HOF board of selectors if they thought Zach Thomas was worthy of the HOF. All three said no:
________________________________________I reach out to members of the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s board of selectors to ask “Is Zach Thomas, who retired Thursday as a Miami Dolphin, worthy of enshrinement?”
Ed Bouchette, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: “Unless a guy’s obvious, like Troy Aikman or Dan Marino or somebody like that, there’s a reason you have a five-year period from the time a player retires until he’s eligible. It gives us guys a chance to think about whether we want to vote for them or not. But my initial reaction? Zach Thomas just doesn’t jump out at me as a Hall of Famer. Now, I’m not saying I won’t vote for him. I have five years to think about it. But off the top of my head, he doesn’t strike me as a Hall of Famer. But he’s a candidate, and I’ll look more into his career and talk to other people before I decide.”
Dave Goldberg, AOL Fanhouse and formerly of The Associated Press: “I always have an open mind on these things, but right now I don’t think so. My first thought is he is one of those guys in the Hall of Very Good. He was a very good player for a long time, but did he stand out? No. There are so many of these guys, and he’s one step away, one level below the Hall of Fame. I remember his first day in training camp with the Dolphins. I was there. Jimmy Johnson loved Zach Thomas from the first day. He was too small and a fifth-round pick, but he was smart and a leader and was quick. But as a Hall of Famer? Not quite. He didn’t quite have the impact. I don’t remember him dominating games, and that’s what I think of when I think of Hall of Famers.”
John McClain, Houston Chronicle: “I’ve watched him since he was at Texas Tech. When I think of Dick Butkus or Ray Nitschke and Jack Lambert as the greatest inside linebackers in history, then, no, Zach doesn’t belong. But I’m willing to listen to any evidence from anybody that can convince me that Zach has Hall of Fame credentials. Right off the bat, my initial thought for Zach going into the Hall of Fame is ‘No,’ when compared to the other guys, but I’ve said that before and changed my mind during the five years before he’s eligible. I’m open-minded.”

I kind of get it now, why these guys were such jerks. Taylor better play well, but if he does, I’m willing to overlook his past.
-
This is absolutely hilarious! I would hate a team if they beat me almost every time we played as well!
-
we hate you too zach
-
the reason the dolphin players and their fans hate the jets so much is because every time the jets play in miami at least 50% of the stands is filled with jet fans. it has always been that way, and always will. it’s the same reason the phillie fans hate the mets..
-
THEIR fans are NOTHING like OUR FANS!! J! E! T! S! JETS! JETS!! JETS!!!
-
Yep, ok Zach, buh-bye
-
At least he is honest, unlike the two faced mercenary that signed here despite his alleged hate for us.
-
The “FISH” hate us mostly because we’ve owned them for a long-time. Go Jets and Lets route for Taylor because he’s a Jet now.
-
well i hate him to lol
-
Well zach, enjoy the transition from the NFL to retirement. Aahhh, retirement! A magical place where minor hits cause injuries, everyone thinks you’re worthless, and- Oh wait! You won’t notice a difference!
I hate you too, zach. may you ride Wilford Brimley’s horse so far into the mountains of damnation that the lord himself cannot find you with a telescope…..jerk -
The Dolphins hardly sell out any games(except when Jet fans buy up tickets). How can their fans be called passionate?
-
always hated zach thomas…but ever since that illegal trip to the knee of curtis martin which pretty much started the the demise of his career that zach called accidental i had an even deeper hatred for him
-
Yes i can see all the passionate dolphin fans who sell there home ticket games to jet fans . And the jets are getting cheered by half the dolphin stadium. And liking jason taylor is just impossible.
-
Liking him is a strong word, I think if he makes enough plays maybe i can tolerate him who cares but hes just like Farve, and ass for Zach Thomas…you do look like you sister turd! scum bucket!
-
I respect Zach Thomas but…
He, unlike Taylor, has NOTHING left and the Jets beat him and the Phins @ss just about all the time for 10 years while he was there…
Id hate us too if I had to take a beating like that
-
Thomas was a good player there is no doubt about that but there is something else without doubt that was mentioned already – he was dirty – I remember the trip rusty mentioned and I also remember a hit on Coles that left both with concussions. Whatever Zach Thomas you were a good tackler on a consistently overrated defense on a team that never accomplished anything enjoy your retirement. As for the Dolphins fans well everyone here has nailed it – whenever the Jets are in Miami the stadium is 50% or more Jets fans, I have seen it in person myself. The Dolphins fans are more passionate for the Dolphins than the Marlins but that’s about it.

God I hope the Jets win the superbowl so this midget has to see Taylor’s ring at all the holidays.
