Link: Super Bowl Headed to NY … Pro Bowl Next?

by Steiny on May 27th, 2010 at 10:53 am

Bart Hubbuch of The Post is reporting that in addition to the Super Bowl being played at the New Meadowlands Stadium in 2014, the Pro Bowl might be as well.

A high-ranking NFL official told The Post yesterday that the Pro Bowl could also be headed to open-air New Meadowlands Stadium the weekend before Super Bowl XLVIII.

Frank Supovitz, the NFL’s senior VP of events, said that hosting the Pro Bowl was not part of the joint Super Bowl bid submitted by the Giants and Jets, but remains a possibility.

“You never say never,” Supovitz said. “We haven’t discussed that yet, but it’s definitely within reason. It can’t be ruled out.”

Playing the Superbowl in cold weather is fine, but risking talented player’s health in a glorified exhibition is nuts.

Although I think he will be unavailable for the probowl due to playing in the superbowl, tell me you wouldn’t flip if Revis got hurt in the frickin probowl? Same with any of our guys. It’s a bad idea.

….but why is that exclusive to this year? Players get hurt just as often in warm weather.

  3. Don’t understand playing the PB the week before the SB. I know it’s just a glorified popularity contest anyway, but scheduling it so that players from teams in the SB definitely won’t be playing seems to me to do as much harm as good RE: more people paying attention and strikes me as just plain dumb.

Pro Bowl should stay in Hawaii.

It is really is only a source of revenue and risk to players. The only player perk is a family trip to Hawaii.

Brendan- I understand players can get hurt under any conditions, but the cold and possible snow are added risks. I bet a lot more people would decline the invite.

i think this is an incredibly stupid idea. i wouldnt even go if you handed me a free ticket. to sit outside in january and watch a bunch of guys running around at 20% speed just does not sound like fun

Aside from scrapping the game altogether, who cares? It’s a joke accomplishment anyway. Just turn it into a fun day of activities, games, skill competitions, and other stuff people would actually watch.

LOL at the pro bowl in NY. If this is the trend with cold weather stadiums hosting superbowls and pro bowls then they are going to be a ton of players with Pro Bowl appearances on their resume since everyone will be opting out with a sandy va-jay-jay

I’m sorry. Did I miss something here. Put yourself in the pro-bowlers shoes. I just played a tough azz season. My body is all banged up and bruised. I was flattered by the pro-bowl nomination. I am on the fence about playing since I have personal plans and time to finally spend with my family which I haven’t been around too much in the past 6 months. But I want to represent my team, fans and since the pro bowl is in (Hawaii, Miami, insert tropical city here _________) I’m also going to make it a vacation with the family as well so we can relax. Its a hard sell in NY, Pitt, Green Bay, _________

  10. avatar Brendan says:

    C Low,

Pittsburgh? Yes. Green Bay? Yes. But New York? You are trying to tell me people can’t vacation in New York? Even in the dead of winter this city has more to offer than most cities on their best day.

In the winter they want warm weather, a vacation for the family, no cold weather conditions that increase their chances of getting hurt in a game that means NOTHING.
