I seriously have to stop reading articles about the defense. I want to put my head through my computer screen right now. The absolute circus that will be Opening Night can’t get here soon enough.

Daily News had a great story on gholston and the bust label a while back.
-
In Rex’s press conference he mentioned that Gholston has had “sacks” every day in practice so far. Sounds pretty good for 260

I’m just glad Gholston at least understands that he hasn’t done enough so far. A lot of people who are considered “busts” always try to shift blame elsewhere. JaCarcass Russell, for example, refused to believe that he was a ****ty QB with a lousy work ethic.
I think VG will take a big step forward this season and try to set his career on the right path. At least, I hope so.

GP,
That’s one of the points I always bring up about Gholston when people bash him as someone who isn’t intelligent. He is VERY self aware, and realistic, when it comes to himself. He knows the expectations people had of him, where he’s measured up, and what he has to do to shed the bust label. And as I said, Calvin Pace was a very strong supporter of Gholston last year, and says it’s a matter of time before Gholston’s athleticism is equaled by his mental game.
He reminds of Mike Pelfrey. Big Pelf always had the talent to be a tremendous player. The physical gifts were never in question. He just need to develop a combination of things (harnessing his skills, developing a strong understanding of his craft, getting stronger mentally, fine-tuning pitches) and now he’s a stud. I’m not saying Gholston will ever have a ridiculous season, but he was drafted so raw that he’s needed time to develop so many different aspects of his game. If he can even produce a little, I’d keep him around. His NFL clock is starting much later than a normal 6th overall pick, so if he (miraculously) turns into a good player, the Jets could keep him around for very cheap. Let’s hope he shows some glimpses this year.

We had a TE named Kevin Brock?
