If you had the power to save a life … would you use it?
Jets OLB Calvin Pace is challenging Jets fans to get involved with DKMS, a bone-marrow matching service that might help you do just that.
While this sort of thing can be abstracted from our daily lives, here’s a DKMS video of 6 month old Sophia (which broke Pace’s rather large heart to hear) who desperately needs a transplant, most likely from a fellow person of Puerto Rican descent.
“Sophia’s story broke by my heart," Pace said. "Her disease is so rare, and her chances of finding a matching donor are slim because she’s a minority. Everyone, regardless of their race or ethnicity, deserves a fair chance at life. Help Sophia and others like her in desperate need of a transplant. Register as a bone marrow donor. You can help her win this fight.”
Watch her brother’s video below.
While I myself won’t likely match her, I’ll be damned if I stand by. Maybe somehow this pasty Irishman is a match.
Having a four month old myself makes me realize the urgency their family must feel, so maybe I can’t help her, but maybe one of you readers can.
We urge you to consider registering. Full disclosure, I don’t push this stuff onto readers generally if I don’t also participate, and as of yet, I haven’t registered, but will talk to my wife tonight about this and after that plan to register this very evening.
Head to DKMS’s webpage to learn how you can support this worthy cause.
Our thanks to Rich Cimini of ESPNNY for making us aware of this.

Jay, not really the right place to post that.
I just signed up after seeing this. Like Bassett I have a 4 month old and this story really got to me. I only hope that I can help this little girl.

Revis attended practice this morning… whew.
