Link: Jason Receives A Warm Welcome

by Bassett on June 17th, 2010 at 12:00 pm

Apparently, fans were embracing Jason Taylor yesterday with open arms.

The surreal chant came from the northwest corner of the New Meadowlands Stadium, an homage to a villain that made you think you had stepped into the bizarro world.

Ja-son Taylor! Ja-son Taylor!

The final practice of the Jets’ three-day minicamp was punctuated by the strangest sort of tribute to one of the most hated Gang Green opponents off all time.

Up is down, black is white, good is bad …

Damn you Jason Taylor, now you’ve got me questioning everything …

    How quickly we forget…

I think back through the years of rooting for the Jets and there were very few players (of teams I disliked) that I despised.

Jason Taylor was one of those players.

  2. avatar RyanM says:

im still not sold on this guy, its going to take alot for me to like him after everything he’s said. i hated him more than any player in the nfl, i just dont see myself cheering for him.

  3. avatar Seth (Rochester, NY) says:

As we all know, New York sports fan are very forgiving. Of course, they are also very quick to do the booing. It’s all about what can you do for me and what have you done for me lately. We love all of our favorites when they are playing well, but have a few bad games and you gett he jeers very quickly. I am one of the first ones to say Gholston needs to be a goner, but if he starts playing strong we will all be cheering him on. I don’t like Taylor as much as anyone, but he is now ours so all we can do is ask, “what will he do for us now.

  4. avatar Tom B says:

anyone that hates him for what he “said” is a child, grow up.

if you hate him because he was AWESOME and he kicked our butts for years, then you have good reason.

now? there’s no reason, he’s putting the green and white on and you need to accept that.

  5. avatar Brendan says:

I actually like the fact he trash-talked us. That means 1- we got to him and he didn’t appreciate it, and 2- he really entrenches himself in the rivalries. He feels the same way fans do. I can appreciate that and don’t hold a grudge against him.

  6. avatar Row says:

i’ll obviously be rooting for him, but I wouldn’t be caught dead in his jersey. and don’t see why anyone (regardless of how he plays this season) would. he’s a Jet, but he won’t be here long. perform well and we’ll cheer you on, don’t and you’re just as much as part of the problem when you were on the other team. I think that’s fair. :)

  7. avatar RyanM says:

i hate him for what hes said, and respect what hes done on the field against us, if ur ok with being the a$$ in class as he put it then ur on ur own

  8. avatar Johnny Hector says:

As long as he performs on the field I will be pulling for him just like I would for anyone wearing a Jets jersey. I’ll take what I can get from him while he’s here.

  9. avatar Dave says:

We can embrace him but it won’t truly be alright until he’s put Chad Henne in the ground at least once.

  10. avatar Darrell says:

PFT is saying D’Brick is on the verge of getting a new deal.

  11. avatar MattNYC says:

Just like Seinfeld said- “We root for Laundry”

  12. avatar Neville says:

    Bizzaro Jason!

  13. avatar Nafstejyn says:

Bassett, aren’t you a Yankees fan? If you are, this type of thing should be old hat to you. Didn’t you all worship at the alter of Roger Clemens once he crossed over the the Dark Side? LOL

  14. avatar Reprocity says:

I WANT a Jayson Taylor Jersey!!! You know how many Dolphins fans are up in the Albany area. I know one at work and he’d be so pissed off if I came in with one! I might actually get a Dolphins Taylor Jersey and put some Jets logos over the Dolphin ones. I’d save a ton and tick him off even more.

I gave a stern talking to my mom when she bought a Farve jersey for her grand daughter but seeing as she’ll grow out of it quick I’ll throw it away and get her a Sanchez one!

  15. avatar Jaro says:

Tom B- I do hate Taylor for what he said to us, and so do many other Jets faithful. Slandering an entire fan base and singling us out time and time again to lambaste us with idiotic comments, and declaring that he’d hate to play in NY on top of the fact that he played well against us for his entire career has mad him most Jets fan’s nemesis.

That said, he’s one of us now. I f he plays well, of course I will cheer for him, but, c’mon Jet fans! Heaping the love on him before he makes a single play in regulation? Before he even plays an actual game for us? That’s a bit premature in my opinion. I had hoped we all were taking the, “Let him prove he’s one of us- and that he deserves to be one of us.” mentality. I guess some folks at the stadium yesterday feel differently…

  16. avatar Jaro says:

    Reprocity- good idea.

  17. avatar NYSACKEXCHANGE says:

    I still don’t like him.

  18. avatar Reprocity says:

Jaro, We Rex’s team now and we don’t get upset we get excited when some one talks sh^t at us…

People who hate Taylor more than Zach Thomas I don’t get at all. Taylor never played dirty while Thomas leg whipped Curtis in the knee!

  19. avatar gt73 says:

First sac of Chad Henne next year, and all will be forgotten and forgiven. We already know what Pennington thinks about playing against him.

  20. avatar RyanM says:

i hate taylor and thomas, but respect the hell out of their on field performances. thats as far as it goes, ill root for the jersey

  21. avatar Jaro says:

    Reprocity-

I hear you on feeding off of the smack talk- but Taylor brought the smack to US, not just to our team. In my mind, that makes it personal. I do feel you, though in principle.

Also- I F-ing hate Zach Thomas too! And HIM, thankfully I don’t need to try and like!

  22. avatar tish says:

Now that the OTA’s and mini camp are done, do we know anything more about the following:
Anyone ahead in the competition for replacing Faneca?
Has any WR emerged as #5?
Who is ahead at KR & PR?
Did Clemens show anything to justify retaining him and the Jets not pursuing Brunell or Sage?
Are the Jets comfortable with Folk and one of the Ps?
Will the NJ winds still be so difficult for kickers, punters and QBs?
Is the new field dangerous (just ask Hixon)?
How did Gholston really look at his new position?
Why can’t most discussions focus on football issues and not on salary disputes and off-field insanity?

  23. avatar john l says:

    **********************660 fan***************************

jets offer revis 6 year 100+ mil ……

not sure how much is guarenteed

revis wants to average better than 16.2 mil per year so we’ll see

  24. avatar gangreen says:

I guess I’m a child. He blasted the jets and the fans any chance he had.

  25. avatar Brendan says:

    gangreen,

How would you handle it if people shouted the most vile things imaginable about you, your wife, your kids, your team, your city, your friends, your…(get the point?). I would do a lot more than just hurl dirty words back. I can’t blame JT for badmouthing a group of people that were ruthlessly awful to him (for the record I’m happy we were).

  26. avatar Shane L. says:

Yeah I’m still not sure about cheering him. I think it’s cool that those fans tried to make him feel at home. When he makes an impact on the field I guess I’ll come around.

    @john I

You heard that on the fan? I’ve had it on and didn’t hear that at all? Just heard another update from Mink and he didn’t mention it. If it’s true and Revis turns it down then I don’t want him on the team anymore. That’s an asinine amount.

  27. avatar The Son of Al Toon says:

I still don’t like his pansy ass, I don’t care what ovation he’s gotten. *remains childish*

  28. avatar R in CT says:

Maybe I’m alone here, but I still expect that at some point during the season, Taylor will go on something like SNY Wheelhouse with Rex, act all cool and then hold Rex’s arm up high and then … kick him in the gut and start stomping him down. The announcers will decry the horror!

Then Zach Thomas and Ric Flair will appear carrying ball bats, and then they will all take turns stomping and beating Rex in between “WOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!s” only to eventually be run off by Bart Scott, Jim Leonard and Sting.

  29. avatar The Son of Al Toon says:

only to eventually be run off by Bart Scott, Jim Leonard and Sting
    _______
I was hoping the Steiner Brothers. HA

  30. avatar Brendan says:

    hahaha @ R

    “…..GOOD GOD……THAT’S BIG JENKS’ MUSIC!!!!!!”

  31. avatar Organized Choas says:

Im telling you guys read that aritcle i posted. Says D-Brick already has a deal pretty much in place and that the NYJ will give Revis 100 mil

  32. avatar Brendan says:

    OC,

We’ve been talking about that all morning.

  33. avatar R in CT says:

    Nice touch Brendan …

I forgot to mention the part where Rex blades himself. “He’s bleeding like a stuck pig!”

  34. avatar Brendan says:

hahahaha always a favorite of mine as well.

  35. avatar R in CT says:

I forgot to add Channing Crowder to the heels.

  36. avatar Harris52ChampionshipDefense says:

The guy has been a bit of a thorn in our side (well, not record wise – the Jets have hammered the Dolphins since he’s been there), but at the same time, I think Taylor is a valuable addition to the locker room. In an offseason where the Jets have added highly talented but morally dubious players such as Bluntonio Holmes and Cromartie, I don’t think it hurts having a former Walter Payton Man of the Year award winner around.

  37. avatar Drew says:

dogs and cats–living together! mass hysteria!!

  38. avatar TOON2388 says:

I like Taylor – he is honoring his contract.

  39. avatar Jcjets says:

Lol @ the wrestling scenario you guys came up with. I’m glad the jet fans yesterday embraced him! It was a very classy thing to do, which is what I’d expect! The bottom line is what he said isn’t true and he was only talking smack.

A little over a month till training camp!

  40. avatar BubbyBrister/shovelpass says:

I still hate him, and will not cheer for him. But I agree…he did play well in goal against England during the World Cup.

    (thanks, SD99)

  41. avatar SackDance99 says:

    bubby,

Thanks, he’s tougher than we think, sore shoulder and ribs and he still made practice. Let’s hope he’s not too jet-lagged for the Slovenia game.

  42. avatar JETS#1 says:

guys you know the funnest part about that doesn’t raw have some sort of celebrity guest thing so rex could like host an episode. we should all like email him asking him to do that.i have’t watch wwe in like 2 years but I’d watch that

  43. avatar Pdubbs says:

Bottom line is he hated us (the fans) cause we are good fans… we know exactly what to say to piss the opposing team off. Sooooo, good job A-Holes ! (I am one of them)

Now, JT can realize how awesome it is to have us on HIS side and abuse the Dolphins with us.

    Stupid Dolphins….

  44. avatar JETS#1 says:

@ buddy thank god someone finally made a joke about the guy on the us soccer team looking like jason also I would like to bring up I’m the one who broke the revis for 100 mil. story for you guys so your welcome

  45. avatar cmonleon says:

hate this guy always have. he has always disrespected fans all over the people that pay his salary….. you figure you could do what most players do just ignore them but he has to confront all fans not just jets. i hope he gets booed out of miami when we play there so we can see how he feels about his home town now. maybe hell go after one of them too.

  46. avatar rusty sanchez says:

    reprocity
thank you…..always hated zach thomas way more cause of that intentional trip to the knee of c-mart that started the demise to his career

  47. avatar bono-zoffa says:

next thing you know those same dopey jets fans are going to get into a fight defending jason taylor when a pats fan calls him a sissy for his dancing w/ the stars appearance and the jets as being soulless for signing a guy who basically said their fans were scum.

until jason taylor brings a lombardi to the jets, i’ll neither root for, cheer for, or defend him.

  48. avatar Ryanm says:

bono, im with u, except taylor wont bring us a championship, hes just along for the ride, our defense was great without him, our season depends on sanchez and how he plays

  49. avatar FinsfaninPA says:

its been a while since ive given all u jets phans something to talk about.. well here it is..enough said
