Cards from MiniCamp: Best Seat in the House?

by Bassett on June 21st, 2010 at 1:50 pm

While we are still on the Vineyard, we’re doing our best to catch back up with some of your citizen journalism from practice last week.  Thanks to the many of you who submitted works, we’ll get to you in the next day or two.

Here’s The NYC Parking Expert’s take on what he saw:

——

… the stadium looks great! I’ve attached some pix – sorry the quality isn’t better, I took them with my cell phone. I also (for good luck) attached a pic I took during the celebration after the last game at the old stadium when we whooped the bengals to get into the playoffs.

Here’s some quick thoughts:

  • Both sides (O & D) are playing with a lot of enthusiasm & passion
  • The receiving corps looks amazing. In 7 on 7s, I was so psyched as they lined up with Santonio wide left, then Keller to the immediate right of Sanchez, followed by Cotch and finally Edwards. LT (who still seems to have a burst) was in the backfield. No idea how ANYONE is going to defend that with consistency. That play was incomplete, but the next play Sanchez hit Cotch for a TD. He hit Keller for one later on as well.
  • If anyone is the weak link on O, it is Sanchez. Not that he isn’t good (I think he will eventually be great) but he was erratic today. Some nice passes and some rushed throws and balls he forced. Maybe playing a great D has something to do with it. He still looked miles ahead of the other QBs on the field, which is one sorry statement about Clemens.
  • Woodhead looks like he belongs on a football field (the anti-Kellen Clemens). Barring injury, I don’t see how he can possibly make our roster with the RBs we have, but he should find a place somewhere. With that in mind, maybe Tanny ought to see if he can get a low draft pick for him, because if he gets cut someone will snatch him up quick.
  • JT didn’t show anything – I’m not sure how much he even practiced! But he did sign a few autographs and got a round of applause from the crowd, which I think is great. What good would it do to boo him now that he is on the team?
  • Fans were chanting "Just Pay Rev-is" a few times. He didn’t react. Personally I think that is a simplistic view of things – to just pay him what he wants. We have to make sure we can sign everyone and not screw ourselves like the raiders did.
  • A few guys, notably Santonio, Keller and Braylon reacted to and kidded with the crowd. Braylon (who looked great, as did Santonio) handed a ball to someone (couldn’t see who).
  • Sanchez was playful all day and gave Braylon a big hug from behind and patted his chest after practice. They look like they’re becoming pals.
  • Big Jenks was also playful with the crowd. This happened before JT went to the same spot to sign autographs. As a matter of fact, Jenks walked JT over and said something to the crowd – I’m guessing it was something like "Be nice to my boy here" but no way to know for sure.

Nothing like a picture of a sweet @$$ decked out in Jets gear.

  2. LOL – couldn’t resist taking that shot, thought my TJB brethren might appreciate it. Glad that it made it thru final cutdowns!

haha NYCPE, my hat is off to you my friend. I have never seen a camera phone butt shot taken that steadily that didn’t show the next picture as a girl smacking said camera phone.

DUDE THIS CHICK was sitting right next to me!!!

There were 3 of us… My y father and I were wearing our #20 Jones jerseys, and my fathers buddy was wearing his Mets jersey.

She was friggen HOT!!!! Here thong popped out twice and those pants kept getting SUCKED up that sweet rump of hers!!!

PS that was ME Screaming at Kellen Clemens!!!

    HE SUCKS!!!!!!!!

  7. avatar Shamik says:

JF4L – yeah, way to live up to the Joisey/Jets fan stereotype. I love hot chicks like anyone else, but lets stick to the cheerleaders who are out there to be eye-candy and lets leave the people in the stands out of this.

  8. avatar Brendan says:

Hey there’s nothing wrong with oogling the eye candy in the stands, but JF4L seems like he may have been a bit obvious.

I’m like the guy from Role Models, only with backsides instead of frontsides. Teaching the younger generations how to check out nice buns without being obvious.

  9. Brendan – Hah! It was pretty easy because everyone had their phones out and were taking shots all over the place! If I actually gave it any thought before I did it, I’m sure I would have screwed it up!

JF4L – I remember that Mets Jersey. I actually didn’t notice the thong, just grabbed a shot when it was there in my face!
What do you have against Keller? He made some nice plays that day – I counted 2 “TD” catches, some other nice grabs and 1 drop.

  10. avatar Shamik says:

    Brendan, its a lost art…

    Where on the Vineyard??

    NamVetJet,
Well when this hot chick in the pic above sat down (as I was in the chair to her left) I was able to refocus on the field. What I saw was pretty cool, minus Clemens and Clowny as they felt and heard my wrath!!

Now I was at the Florham Parks mini camp last year to, but this was WAY better. They should do this more often as every one was able to get a good seat and watch. No granted the coaches and players were not doing anything impressive but between seeing my beloved Jets, the new Stadium, seeing part of the old Stadium being knocked down, and tailgating on my new “Freedom Grill” in the lot the whole experience blew me away!!

Lets put it like this…..I almost spent the $2500 for endzone seats (and I HATE endzone seats). Woody had his time share crew all over the place and pulled out all the stops but one. He had the fans come to the stadium, he had the team on the filed, he had the media & HBO to interview us, he had the Cheerleaders on the field and mingling with us fans (in next to nothing – and let me tell you I think I found my new wife!). What Woody failed on was he did not serve beer that day (as they did the day before with the Giants as I found out). Sorry but $4.75 per bottle of water was not helping the cause, but if I would have had a few beers (even at 11am in the morning) I probable would have spent the money and became a season ticket holder.

In the end I still can not believe I was sitting in a seat (after the discount) worth $15000 just to have the right to purchase a ticket. So unless they do this again I’ll never have a seat that good EVER again! Hell I was even fortunate enough to get on the field (in that little fenced in nook) just below the seat I was in so I got to experience it all!

The NYC Parking Expert: I have nothing against Dustin Keller (he is awesome).

I just don’t like Kellen Clemens… Nothing against the guy on a personal level (as I never met him so it would not be fair for me to judge him on that) but as a player….he’s just not good enough to be on this team.

  14. avatar Jets-Fan-4-Life says:

Just realized that me in the visor in the pic above!

  15. avatar JesusRevis says:

The pic of Greene with LT is a cool one

  16. avatar starz31 says:

Nice pics. Definitely saved the best one for last.

What you think of the stadium?

  17. JF4L – oops, my bad, sorry. You wrote “Kellen Clemens” and I read “Dustin Keller”. Totally agree with you about Clemens, which I wrote in my thoughts on the practice above. He doesn’t look like he should be in the pros, even as a 3rd stringer. Just awful.

Starz – the stadium was great. The screens are crystal clear and the seats (as JetFan mentioned) were fantastic. Cushioned and comfy – I guess one should expect that for $15k seats! keep in mind that we were on the 50 yard line (I was in the 2nd row) so if the stadium don’t look great from there, something is wrong!

JR – thanks, they were hanging together a lot, as were the WRs. Seemed like a lot of comraderie.

Bottom line it sounds like JetFan4life has never seen a stich of puntang his whole life.. and probably J.Oed to that picture 7 times already…

However… The pics are nice and i wish i could have been there to see it from my seats.. wanted to get a idea of how it would be during the game… hopefully i have a chance to see the stadium before the first game..
