Before the off-season started, the Vegas oddsmakers had to Jets at a 25:1 shot to win the 2011 Super Bowl.  However, with the off-season additions of Holmes, Cromartie, LT, Jason Taylor etc, the Jets  now stand at 10:1. Not only did they make the biggest jump in NFL, but they are 3rd in the entire NFL behind the Colts and Saints who both stand at 9:1.

Should the Jets be favored to win it all?  Is 10:1 fair? It is very early to say, but on paper, there is no denying the Jets have talent.  But, fact is its only June, and many things can change from now until the start of the season.  For now, I am just happy to see Tanny’s hard work paying off, and  to witness the Jets finally getting the recognition and respect they deserve.

I was in Vegas this past weekend and at the Palms sportsbook the Jets were had the best odds in the NFL of winning the superbowl : 7-1!!

I couldn’t believe it, how can we be favored to win the superbowl when we havent even been there in decades. I was certain the Colts would’ve have been first but they were right behind the jets at 8-1.

I really want everybody to get off the NYJ bandwagon. It totally scares me.
The excitement is fun and enjoyable, but its becoming clear that anything less than a Super Bowl is a complete failure.

Org Chaos… agreed. This is too much hype for a team that just made the playoffs. Granted, lots of new talent since the season ended… On paper the Jets are impressive.. but let’s not annoint them favorites to win the super bowl just yet.

Dont read too much into odds to win the superbowl.

The odds are based on public perception AND incoming money on teams. Jets are in the largest market and that means the largest betting market as well. Thus they will get more ‘homer’ action. Not to mention all the media and Hard Knocks hype. That all equals more money being placed on the Jets.
In order to reduce the amount of incoming money on a team the odds are lowered, to push people away from betting on them, and toward a team with a ‘longer shot’ and better payout to win.

Basically it dont mean diddly. I’m just happy I bought them at 18-1 a while ago!

I hate to say it, but this team (and in this game) could go anywhere, from imploding and missing the playoffs to winning the whole damn thing. With a still young QB and a very tough schedule, I say 10-6, wildcard.

Steiny, I prefer they earn that recognition and respect on the playing field, couldn’t care less what the general public thinks, in fact it is probably a negative as the public is usually wrong.

What were the odds on the Saints this time last year?

Same goes for “Tanny’s hard work paying off”, there is no payoff until January.
