NFL.com is reporting that the Jets and their second round draft pick are close to finalizing a deal.
The New York Jets are nearing a deal with second-round draft pick Vladimir Ducasse, a league source told NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora on Monday.
Ducasse, a standout offensive tackle from [the University of] Massachusetts, has agreed in principle to many of the tenets of a deal, which could be finalized in the next few days. Ducasse was taken 61st overall and would be the highest draft pick to sign thus far.
Ducasse will likely be the starter for the Jets, so to get him signed soon with his generally sensible agent Joe Linta should be a layup. If Ducasse signs, then it means the team’s contract specialists can focus their attention on first rounder Kyle Wilson, who would be great to have signed by the start of camp.

how has he looked in camp thus far? any word?

jojo,
He’s still learning. There was a story last week about him facing Jenkins, Jenkins realizing that Ducasse was leaning forward too much in his stance, and did the ‘ol tug/yank move right at the snap. Jenkins then took him off to the side and worked with him 1 on 1 to correct it and keep his base balanced.
I think Ducasse will still be raw by the start of the season, but he’s so gifted physically that he will be able to take care of himself with tutelage like he received with Jenkins.
And Bill Callahan is a demigod, so there’s that.

thanks b,
i read that story too. i think i’d be comfortable if i heard cally step up and say he’s the best raw talent that he’s ever seen or something of that ilk. regardless there’s no way to tell until you see the kid in the shadow if his own goalpost with wilfork breathing down his snout. faneca was overrated but was a known entity, with the andrien clarke era still fresh on my mind this position makes me nervous. -
Lets see if we can get this guy signed to a five year deal, throw in a little bigger signing bonus and get it done! We could use any deals we can get at this point.

I know the norm is a four year deal for a 2nd round pick, but why not give it a try.

Well JEFFDOLFINI, then the contracts get elaborate. Just look @ Revis’ deal. He wanted five we budged for six. Gave him a huge contract that other teams we’re angry that we did. In hindsight it was a great and shrewd move. But by doing that, now Revis wants a new deal to get out of his old one.

All teams this season are giving their rookies 4 year deals. The only 2 teams doing 3 year deals are the Ravens and Steelers. 1st round picks generally get between 4-6 year deals

Has Ducasse emerged as the leader at guard or is the young, but more experienced Slauson ahead? Since this is apparently the only starting position in contention, one would think that we could read a little insight into the position duel rather than another version of who is looking for a new contract

seems that they want slauson to be the future replacement for woody. since we seem to be hearing more about vlad and not matt i’d say he is gonna be a lock for the starting guard spot.
has anyone heard any word on slauson? i know nothing about the guy, good run blocker thats about it

Have any late second round picks signed ? Or are the Jets setting the market.
