I do agree that J. Russell didnt stand a chance in Oakland and also the Jets would be a very good fit for him. Now that doesnt meen I want him here, its just that I agree. We are very QB friendly with our run game, all the offensive weapons and line we have.
I wonder how much money he would be looking for now?
-
Yah no to Russell. He can’t play out of a paper bag. That is someone I DO NOT want mentoring Sanchez…..He would teach Sanchez how to get away with eating McDonalds on the bench during a game, and we don;t need that. lol
-
Russell to the Jets makes so little sense that I can’t believe it is even being discussed.
-
I am glad the titan uniforms are going away. YAYYYYYYYYYY
-
I completely disagree. The Jets signing Jamarcus to a two year contract with nothing guaranteed for no more than a million per makes complete sense. [If he won't sign that let him sit home and eat]
None of our backups are guys anyone with football knowledge would want to put in if Sanchez goes down. They have had their chances to shine (Kellen repeatedly) and not done the job (Ainge and O’Donnel have failed to impress two coaching staffs in practice).
The Jets have supposedly good, young Qb coaches (lil Shott and Matt C) so a worn out Brunnel is less worthless. We don’t need another mentor; we need a back up who can play if necessary.
Jamarcus could be just what the doctor ordered: a cheap insurance policy. If he eats his way out of the league again or doesn’t work on this team with so many good leaders, he is done. Low investment and the third Qb will still be there as will Brad Smith. But if it really was a Raider problem, he might develop over two years and offer us valuable trade bait. And, if Sanchez goes down, I would much prefer to have someone coming in with talent.
If one is going to look under rocks and behind trees to find talent, one has to be blind to not investigate this big guy. If we can get him cheap, it would make tremendous sense.

To Matt Foust of POINT-SPREADS: News, Picks & Betting Resource:
Matt…Just Edit, Baybeeeee!
You work in the Numbers industry. Your entire world is dependent on numbers and their accuracy.
When your opening graph states:
“,,,have the Colts, Chargers, and Jets listed as the FIVE most likely teams to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl next year.” it puts a sizable dent in the ol’ trust component, y’know?Bush mistake, Matt…
-
Harlan, glad to see you’re jake with giving a Rummy Like Russell a pittance of a Mill per.
We can safely assume that this would have no impact whatsoever on the psyche of Darrelle Revis, knowing that this year he’d be making the same as a Rummy Like Russell.
Jus’ sayin’…

Don’t want Russell. Every team in the league ha been able to make him look sick. Big arm, no brain for the pros, bad work habits, lousy for the chemistry of team on the way up.
There are tons of strong arm QBs that didn’t make it in the NFL for one reason or another. Long time Jet fans may even remember a kid named Browning Nagle who Coslett drafted after missing out on someone named Farve (1991).
Bottom line: With Sanchez and Smith (option plays, versatility) we’ve more than covered anything a perfectly developed JM could provide if he could ever get there. We just need either Ainge or O’Donnel to step up. Clemens never blossomed into a top flight QB and has been a major disappointment.

Mike- There are three types of people in this world those who are good in math and those who aren’t.
-
I think that Tomlinson will bring good energy and a positive outlook for our team…and as far as his prediction…WHY NOT???
-
Mike,
I have no sympathy for Revis. He is employed, playing under a deal he and his agent accepted. If he is not a multi-millionaire already, he should fire his agent and fiscal adviser. His agent should have known a lock-out was coming in 2011 and would screw things up — I did.
Plus, I am sure if Revis wanted a deal which began with the premise he was under contract for only 21 mil over three years with none guaranteed, he could get one. He wants a do a over. The Jets have to be stupid to jeopardize our fiscal situation when we hold all the keys to the cookie jar. While I would love to trade several million of Woody’s money this year to lock him up for five years instead of three, even assuring him that during those last two years he makes no less than the average of the top five CB at that time or becomes a FA, anything else is bad business.
And, if I am right about Jamarcus, even Revis might like turning that money into another draft pick or the few wins we need to play the Colts or Pats in the playoffs at home.

Russel has been humbled. He has everything to prove. Like LT. I agree with Harlan: give him a million a year for 2 years and he becomes delicious trade bait if he changes his ways and, if so, he is a better back up than what we’ve already got and Brunnel waiting in the wings. It’s a big gamble but with a bigger payoff than anything else we’ve got on the table. And if he can’t cut it at QB, we still need help on the D line and he’s got the size and the weight.

I have to say PASS on this. I see no real benefit. The reason you want a guy like Brunell as your backup QB to a young, developing potential star like Sanchez is that if Sanchez gets hurt and has to miss say, 5 games, Brunell is the type of guy with enough experience to manage a talented team and perhaps help the team survive that stretch at 2-3 or 3-2.
When Vinny went down in the last season the JETS seemed poised to make a run at the Super Bowl in 1998 (granted, he went down for the whole season and not 5 games as in my hypothetical above), Top Tupa – TOM TUPA – the Punter – had to step in. I believe he was in there because Rick Mirer hadn’t yet mastered the playbook (like Jamarcus, an all-world talent when he came into the league, and also like Jamarcus, this all-world potential was the only reason a team would take a flier on his as backup). Then Ray Lucas finished up the year and actually played quite well.
This is a team that has Super Bowl aspirations and is entering a 2-year window that is probably their best chance at getting to a Super Bowl for a while because it is loaded with talent but some of that talent is aging and its likely the JETS can’t retain all of their young stars, so I’d much prefer a guy with experience like Brunell to be backup over Jamarcus.
Regarding Jamarcus’ stint with the Raiders, while you can argue that he didn’t have any help and it was a terrible stituation for a young QB, and young QB can struggle mightily and still show great potential. Think of Sanchez throwing 5 INT’s against the Bills, and his quite poor overall numbers in 2009, and those of Matt Stafford. Both the JETS and Lions are (rightfully) very excited about these guys, but I don’t think they’ve distinguished themselves from Jamarcus’ first few years statistically. But us JETS fans and the Lions fans have nonetheless saw a lot to be excited about from Sanchez and Stafford, respectively. All three of these guys have a ton of natural ability, but I haven’t heard anything positive said about Jamarcus!!! The one counterargument I would understand is that Sanchez was in a great situation but Russell was in a terrible situation. But I think it can be said that Stafford wasn’t thrown into a situation much worse than Russell was. One great receiver doesn’t mean they were set at OL and had a great running game.

Are they really getting rid of the titans uniforms?
-
I really liked the Titans uniforms. Got a Sanchez and I love it (it was a gift, and while I love Sanchez, if I had more disposable income I’d have probably gotten myself a Mangold or Harris).
-
I have a Revis in away Titan colors and a Sanchez i think they’re great colors I cant believe they arent going to wear them anymore.
-
I hate the titans uniforms . actually all the throwbacks but the denver ones were almost unwatchable
-
the only throwbacks i want to see are the 1963 helmets, and the 80′s style uniform..
-
also, did i miss a link or something, whre are you guys hearing that we’re getting rid of those titans eyesores?
-
thanks bent
-
Bleedsgreen&white: Sure they will come up with something else for the fans to buy and then make obsolete. Best way to sell more Jerseys.
-
Thanks Bent, I saw it on Gang Green Nation and was looking for it here. I am so excited that they are not wearing the worst uniform in the league anymore. We are green!!!
-
chiming in from my beach house off the med. jk. ok …what? enough. jamarcus russel? ive put up with the off season transition, the revis thing, the mangold thing, i cant hack this russel thing. this is bizzare. its becoming a big buffet of craziness and i think rex eyes are bigger than his stomach. i know hes just making us a superb defence, but he obviously has no pull on who shows up, or im wrong about the guy. he CANT possibly be a russel fan. this crap has to stop. time to head for the hills and hone ****. and put a muzzle on the suits and their precious seat licences or whatever those dorks do.
-
question is, can we make russell a player? so far, it hasnt happened. whats it say to sanchez? hey mark, heres a guy we think can back you up, but if he ever catches the wave, you might be watching. its all bad. sanch gets it, he knows his work is cut out for him to be a professional football quarterback. if i was him id be pissed at the “quality time” given to a screw-up

Sigh…JaMarcus? Really? Can we just stop this talk? It’s just embarrassing. How much of an upgrade over Kellen would he really be? This all sounds like spin from an agent. I cannot see him wearing Jet green.
